Night shifts affect women Health

Sleep is an important part of our biological cycle and disruption to a good night's sleep especially after working in night shifts may affect women's brains more than men's say researchers. The findings revealed that the circadian effects the 24 hours biological cycle on brain performance was significantly stronger in women than in men such that women were more cognitively impaired after the end of doing night shifts

Dear lybrate user, routine obstetric ultrasound o be done at 7 months of pregnancy. Doppler study is to be supplemented with, if indicated. Detailed anomaly scan should have been done at earlier stage. O- blood group indicates rh negative blood group. In such cases, husband's blood group should be done. If you have tried for more than a year with regular sex (3-4 times a week) then you should get tube testing done with hsg i. E. Hysterosalphingography. After which the treatment should be started with clomiphene citrate to get pregnant.

Quit smoking to look young
Smoking is the second leading cause of premature wrinkles. It upsets the body's mechanism for breaking down old skin and renewing it.

I am 28 years old married. Me and wife are trying for a baby. Whenever we do the intercourse, y sperms are coming out of the vagina? And no pregnancy signs even after that. However it is normal that sperms are coming out. Then why my wife getting pregnant? What needs to be done? please suggest.

It is the extra semen and not the sperms which come out and that is normal. Regarding pregnancy, I don't know for how long you are trying. If it is only 3-4 months, don't worry, just try in most fertile days of the cycle which are from 12th -16th day , counting from first day of menses

After delivery you should avoid sex atleast 2 months in normal and 3 months in lscs. It is better to avoid cut in lscs pt because some times it can get infected in scar and I advise to use oral pills.

Hello, You had sex in your safe period, however bleeding after coitus is mostly seen with cervicitis or cervical erosions and needs to be evaluated. Pregnancy is unlikely as you were protected throughout.

There are other modes of therapy as well. In resistant cases laaroscopic drilling of the cysts may be done too. Weight reduction will help a lot.

I am 19 week pregnant and I have still not started feeling any movements of my baby. When will it start.

I am 19 week pregnant and I have still not started feeling any movements of my baby. When will it start.
Hello, ideally the movements can be felt by 16-18 weeks of gestation so if its still not felt then you may get an ultrasound pelvis done to check for foetal growth parameters. Also this is the best time for level 2 anomaly scan.

What are the causes of polysystic ovarian syndrome (PCODs). What are its effect on body.

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)
Homeopath, Ludhiana
Polycystic ovary syndrome is a problem in which a woman's hormones are out of balance. It can cause problems with your periods and make it difficult to get pregnant. PCOS also may cause unwanted changes in the way you look. If it isn't treated, over time it can lead to serious health problems, such as diabetes and heart disease. Most women with PCOS grow many small cysts on their ovaries. That is why it is called polycystic ovary syndrome. The cysts are not harmful but lead to hormone imbalances. Early diagnosis and treatment can help control the symptoms and prevent long-term problems. Hormones are chemical messengers that trigger many different processes, including growth and energy production. Often, the job of one hormone is to signal the release of another hormone. For reasons that are not well understood, in PCOS the hormones get out of balance. One hormone change triggers another, which changes another. For example: • The sex hormones get out of balance. Normally, the ovaries make a tiny amount of male sex hormones (androgens). In PCOS, they start making slightly more androgens. This may cause you to stop ovulating, get acne, and grow extra facial and body hair. • The body may have a problem using insulin, called insulin resistance. When the body doesn't use insulin well, blood sugar levels go up. Over time, this increases your chance of getting diabetes. The cause of PCOS is not fully understood, but genetics may be a factor. PCOS seems to run in families, so your chance of having it is higher if other women in your family have it or have irregular periods or diabetes. PCOS can be passed down from either your mother's or father's side. Symptoms tend to be mild at first. You may have only a few symptoms or a lot of them. The most common symptoms are: • Acne. • Weight gain and trouble losing weight. • Extra hair on the face and body. Often women get thicker and darker facial hair and more hair on the chest, belly, and back. • Thinning hair on the scalp. • Irregular periods. Often women with PCOS have fewer than nine periods a year. Some women have no periods. Others have very heavy bleeding. • Fertility problems. Many women who have PCOS have trouble getting pregnant (infertility). • Depression.

Diet for all

To achieve optimum health we tend to listen to advice from all and sundry. Unqualified advice may lead to confusion and illness. So what should people really have in their diet?
It would be wise to include the following in your meals:-

1. Nuts: Pistas, almonds or walnuts. Not more than 6 to 8 daily of each. Preferably early morning before breakfast. Avoid cashew nuts and groundnuts.

2. Fruits: Atleast 2 medium sized seasonal fruits like apple or orange daily. Preferably to be had between meals.

3. Vegetables: They should be cooked minimally. At least one green veg and one sprout. Also have salad.

4. Fish oil: Either 200 gm fish weekly or cos liver oil capsules twice daily.

5. Olive oil: Use extra virgin olive oil 2 tsp per person per day. Preferably as a dressing over salads. Don't use for cooking.

Some tips for having meals:

1. Keep 2 - 3 hours between your dinner and bedtime.

2. Restrict use of salt to less than 1 tsp per person per day.

3. Drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water throughout the day. Never have large quantities of water at a time. Generally sedentary workers should not have more than 2.5 liters of water daily. Don't have water immediately after meals. Wait for at least 30 minutes after meals.

4.1 tsp of cow ghee is recommended for essential fats.

5. Don't have more than 300 kcal per meal.

6. Limit every meal size to what fits in a quarter plate.

7. It is advisable to fast once weekly having fruits, vegetable salad and milk.

8. Use minimal sugar in your meals. Stay away from carbonated sodas.

Exercise for all

Indians require more exercise than westerners.

Exercise daily for 1 hour. Break it up as follows:
40 minutes cardio
10 minutes weights
10 minutes office exercise (stretching and walking in the office)

While doing cardio maintain your pulse at about 80% of your maximum heat rate (approx 120 bpm)

Always warm up before exercise and do stretches after exercise.

Stay any exercise routine gradually.

Daily variations in speed and intensity of exercise are recommended and are most useful.

Drink water or light diet 30 min prior to exercise. Have a warm shower after exercise. Never cold water bath.

Stick to your routine despite all odds.

Get a massage once a month.

Don't exercise with sprained muscles. Give them adequate rest.

I really what are the symptoms of ovarian cyst? And I also wanted to know more about ovarian cyst.

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
An ovarian cyst is a collection of fluid inside an ovary. They are very common and do not usually cause any symptoms. Most ovarian cysts occur as a normal part of the process of ovulation called functional cysts. These cysts usually go away within a few months without any treatment. An ovarian cyst can be more concerning in a female who isn’t ovulating. Some tests are needed if the cyst is large or if it does disappear in a few months. Even though most of these cysts are benign, a small number of them could be cancer. An ovarian cyst is more likely to cause pain if ; Becomes large, Bleeds, Breaks open, During sexual intercourse, Twisted or torsion of ovarian cyst. Symptoms of ovarian cysts can also include: Bloating or swelling in the abdomen, Pain during bowel movements, Pelvic pain — constant, dull aching, Sudden and severe pelvic pain, often with nausea and vomiting, with torsion or twisting of the ovarian cyst.
