My 2 months old daughter sleeps a lot in night or 12am to 5am then she wakes up for feed again frm 5: 30 am to 8 am she sleeps continuously without feed. Please tell me what should i do?

Small babies sleep more. You must wake her up for feeding by gently stroking. Once the stomach is full she will again go for sleep.

I became a mother newly and I am unable to feed my baby properly because I won't get a lot of milk to feed him.

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
There r some galactogauges available like shatavary, which you can take to increase the milk production. If the child is still not getting enough milk then you have to give him formula milk.

If she is less than 6 months give mother feeding adequately and make sure she passes Irvine 6-8 times and keep in relatively cool place don't expose her to direct sunlight if she is more than 6 months then you can give rice based / liquid porridge you can apply topical moisturiser after consulting your pediatrician.

Our baby is 3 months 15 days baby. Doctor say that Pneumococcal Vaccine is necessary for a baby. We are confused whether to take that vaccination. Please suggest whether this vaccine is necessary or not.

MD Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Hyderabad
Well its not mandatory to take a pneumococcal vaccine. Generally pneumococcal vaccine is given to prevent any infection caused by pneumococcus, there are 100+ strains of pneumococcus but this vaccine only provides resistance to infection cause by 13 strains. So the baby has still chance of getting infection from rest of the strains. Generally we recommend this vaccine to babies who are born premature and are at high risk of getting infection, like babies who often get ill having cough and cold or pneumonia. It is mandatory for persons travelling to usa, so if you plan to visit usa in future, get your baby vaccinated. If money is not an issue you can get baby vaccinated. If money is an issue you can skip doses for 1st year and get a single dose at 15 months, that would be enough for life long immunity. So its your decision depending on child health and history as well as your financial status. Hope I have solved your query.

IMMUNISATION OF CHILDREN FROM BIRTH.
=====================================

There are many schedules of immunisation followed and varies from country to country, In india, we widely follow the National Immunisation Schedule.mainly in government hospitals. Many private institutions follow their own schedules. Both are effective, though the private hospitals use costly vaccines whereas the government supply is free.Depending on your purchasing power you can choose either.By and large INDIAN ACADEMY OF PEDIATRICS the largest and most authoritative body in India . Their schedule is fair combination of both types of vaccines newer but costly and cheap ( but effective & safe ) selected appropriately.Apart from the main or essential vaccines there are some optional vaccines for diseases which are not as fatal or life threatening which are covered in national immunisation schedule. I shall explain all important schedule.

My 2 years old daughter is not drinking milk we have to give her force fully. What can we do?

M. Ch., FEBS, MS - General Surgery, MBBS
Nephrologist, Delhi
No need to give milk forcefully. Every child has there own likes and dislikes. Instead of milk if she is taking milk products like curd cheese its ok. Even if not this then just ensure that she has a healthy diet. Milk is not essential. By giving her forcefully you are ensuring that she never takes milk in her life. So stop it.

My child of 6 years is not putting on weight for the last 3 years or so. His appetite is ok but suffers from allergy and respiratory problems from time to time . He is active however but will like him to add some kilos .

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), F.I.A.M.S. (Pediatrics)
Pediatrician, Muzaffarnagar
Average weight of child at 6 year is about 20 kg. If your son is around of this you need not to worry since he is active. You may increase some oily and protein in diet. Otherwise it is better to leave him on his own choice of nutritious diet. If he is suffering respiratory problem, consult doctor who after assessing his problem, he may advise if respiratory problem is to do any thing with his weight gain.
