I'm 28 year old. My bilirubin is always higher than normal values. Doctor telling Gilbert syndrome. What it is.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS

I'm 28 year old. My bilirubin is always higher than normal values. Doctor telling Gilbert syndrome. What it is.
Gilbert’s syndrome is a common and harmless condition, where high levels of a substance called bilirubin build up in the blood. Bilirubin is a yellow pigment found naturally in the blood, which forms when red blood cells are broken down. Symptoms of Gilbert's syndrome Most people with Gilbert's syndrome will experience occasional and short-lived episodes of jaundice. This is when the skin and whites of the eyes turn slightly yellow. Some people also report other problems during episodes of jaundice, including: abdominal (tummy) pain feeling very tired (fatigue) loss of appetite feeling sick dizziness irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) – a common condition that causes stomach cramps, bloating, diarrhoea and constipation problems concentrating and thinking clearly (brain fog) a general sense of feeling unwell However, these problems are not thought to be directly related to increased bilirubin levels, and could mean you have another condition other than Gilbert’s syndrome. Around one in three people with Gilbert’s syndrome experience no noticeable symptoms, and you may not realise you have it until tests for an unrelated condition are carried out.

Although cigarette smoke does not have a direct effect on liver function, harmful chemicals in cigarette smoke increase oxidative stress of the system after reaching the liver, causing irreversible damaging to the liver cells. Drink plenty of fluids. Instead of having coffee, tea or aerated drinks, have fresh fruit juices and loads of water. This will help the liver to detoxify the system. Quit smoking. Smoking not only damages the liver by itself but also increases the toxic effect of medicines you might be taking on the liver. Limit alcohol intake. The more you drink, the more likely you are to damage your liver.

Chronic Gastritis - How to Cope with it?

MBBS, M.S (Gen Surg), M.Ch ( Surgical Gastro)
Gastroenterologist, Hyderabad
Chronic Gastritis - How to Cope with it?

When you have pain in the stomach that is accompanied by nausea and vomiting, chances of you having chronic gastritis are high. This is an issue that specifically affects the stomach and is caused because the lining of the stomach gets inflamed and swollen and in some cases it may get damaged. The deterioration of the lining may be caused because of a bacterial infection and that would have to be treated with specialised medicines and treatment methods. During that time you may feel like there is something wrong with your digestive system and you may need to consult a doctor for the constant pain that you have to go through as soon as you eat something.

Getting help
There may be times when you can no longer cope with the pain that may be occurring in your stomach. You may want to go to sleep or just sit still and do nothing; however, you cannot spend your entire life in that manner and you may have to consult an expert to get relief from the problem. One of the first steps in coping with chronic gastritis is to make sure that you make important lifestyle changes, such as eating healthy, choosing the right timings for eating, cutting down on alcohol and smoking and making sure that you choose a well-qualified and experienced doctor for getting the treatment.

Treatment
Apart from lifestyle changes, it is highly essential to follow a medication routine in order to beat the chronic gastritis completely. Doctors may suggest you take the medication according to the severity of the problem, but before that, you may be asked to go through a number of tests to confirm the problem. The tests may range from regular blood tests, stool tests, to endoscopy or even biopsy in some severe cases. After the testes are done, the doctors may be further sure about the the problem and that would be of great help in treating the issue with much more ease and expertise.

While it may be obvious to you that you suffer from chronic gastritis due to the constant pain in the stomach, it is also important to understand that the problem should not be taken lightly and that the right steps of the treatment should be taken in time before the problem gets worse.

Home Remedies of Acidity: Avoid all types of fast food, non-vegetarian food and oily/spicy food. Take as much fruit as possible. This will help to increase alkaline in the body, neutralizing the acidity affects. Banana, Water Melon and cucumber are few recommended fruits which are proved helpful in acidity. Drink sufficient water (At least 3 ltr). Take water more frequently. Almond helps in quick control over heart burn. Whenever you feel like heart burn, take few pieces of Almonds. Jaggery (gur) is a proven home remedy for acidity. Put one piece in mouth and suck it slowly. Green coconut water is very helpful in acidity. Sleep sufficient. Do not work till late night. Fresh mint juice helps in reducing the side effects of acidity. You can have a glass of mint juice after food for a fast relief.
