The detailed history like when it started, frequency, quantity, consistency and investigations helps us to tell you what is the real cause. Get checked with your family physician once for a healthy life. Take care.

How many reason of blood cancer? Which type medicins are available for blood cancer in india? How many percentage for live patient? And please tell me Ayurvedic medicine for blood cancer.

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Dear mam, blood cancer is usually caused by some mutations or change in genes which control the growth of blood cells. Blood is composed of multiple cells, rbc, wbc, platelets, plasma cells etc. Treatment depends on type of cells effected. Leukaemias have many long term survivors and is nearly curable, but one has to be tolerant enough to complete the treatment and be on regular follow up. I am not aware of ayuvedic medication.

Healthy Prostate - 5 Ways To Maintain It!

Healthy Prostate - 5 Ways To Maintain It!

The prostate gland, an essential part of the male reproductive system grows throughout your life. As you grow older, it becomes imperative to keep this organ healthy.

Here's what you can do to maintain a healthy prostate:

1. Workout to stay fit - Exercising regularly and maintaining an optimum weight can help to keep your prostate gland at an optimal health. Several types of research have revealed the beneficial aspects of exercising. It's said that physically active men are less likely to suffer from enlarged prostate if they performed a physical activity of low to moderate intensity. Likewise, physically active men who ran for 90 to 108 minutes are 20% less likely to develop erectile dysfunction.

2. Eat fruits and vegetables - Including fruits and vegetables in your diet can help to maintain a healthy prostate. Guava, papaya, tomato and watermelon are some of the options that spell good for your prostate. Vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli and Brussels sprouts should also be included to boost the health of the gland. Ideally, you should have about 5 servings of fruits and vegetables daily.

3. Have more soy products - Eating more soy products like tofu, soy flour, soy nuts can help to keep cancer of the prostate at bay. A study published in the British Journal of Urology International revealed that men who had soy products saw a 40% decrease in their risk of developing an enlarged prostate.

4. Have selenium-rich foods - Having foods rich in selenium (a powerful trace mineral) like tuna, eggs, cashews, onions, garlic, etc can reduce your risk of developing prostate cancer.

5. Say yes to healthy fats and no to trans and saturated fats - Choosing healthy fats like avocados, nuts, and olive oil can aid in boosting prostate health. At the same time, limiting saturated fats and trans fat intake are vital for keeping the prostate gland healthy. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult an urologist.

My urine report says urine having trace of albumin. And pus cell is 8-10 /hpf. This tells about infection. But is it can be also indication of kidney cancer. Please help?

MD - Radiation Oncology, MBBS
Oncologist,
My urine report says urine having trace of albumin.
And pus cell is 8-10 /hpf.
This tells about infection.
But is it ...
Dear Mr. Lybrate-user, this urine report does not indicate the presence of cancer. A test called urine cytology can show the presence of cancer cells in urine. I would like to know if you have any particular problems related to urination. That would help in diagnosing the problem. This report suggests possible infection. A urine culture and sensitivity test will help in choosing the antibiotics required for treatment.

Treatment does not depend on size of prostate but on the symptoms you have. Start taking tamsulosin dutasteride combination tablet. Get an ultrasound of kub with post void residual volume. Depending upon your symptoms we can change the medicine but no advantage of increase the dose.

May I know how cancer is cause? And what are the first step to get prevent from cancer?

MS ( General Surgery)
Oncologist, Mandsaur
1. Don't use tobacco Using any type of tobacco puts you on a collision course with cancer. Smoking has been linked to various types of cancer — including cancer of the lung, mouth, throat, larynx, pancreas, bladder, cervix and kidney. Xhewing tobacco has been linked to cancer of the oral cavity and pancreas. Even if you don't use tobacco, exposure to secondhand smoke might increase your risk of lung cancer. Avoiding tobacco — or deciding to stop using it — is one of the most important health decisions you can make. It's also an important part of cancer prevention. If you need help quitting tobacco, ask your doctor about stop-smoking products and other strategies for quitting. 2. Eat a healthy diet Although making healthy selections at the grocery store and at mealtime can't guarantee cancer prevention, it might help reduce your risk. Consider these guidelines: •Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Base your diet on fruits, vegetables and other foods from plant sources — such as whole grains and beans. •Avoid obesity. Eat lighter and leaner by choosing fewer high-calorie foods, including refined sugars and fat from animal sources. •If you choose to drink alcohol, do so only in moderation. The risk of various types of cancer — including cancer of the breast, colon, lung, kidney and liver — increases with the amount of alcohol you drink and the length of time you've been drinking regularly. •Limit processed meats. A report from the International Agency for Research on Cancer, the cancer agency of the World Health Organization, concluded that eating large amounts of processed meat can slightly increase the risk of certain types of cancer. In addition, women who eat a Mediterranean diet supplemented with extra-virgin olive oil and mixed nuts might have a reduced risk of breast cancer. The Mediterranean diet focuses on mostly on plant-based foods, such as fruits and vegetables, whole grains, legumes and nuts. People who follow the Mediterranean diet choose healthy fats, like olive oil, over butter and fish instead of red meat. 3. Maintain a healthy weight and be physically active Maintaining a healthy weight might lower the risk of various types of cancer, including cancer of the breast, prostate, lung, colon and kidney. Physical activity counts, too. In addition to helping you control your weight, physical activity on its own might lower the risk of breast cancer and colon cancer. Adults who participate in any amount of physical activity gain some health benefits. But for substantial health benefits, strive to get at least 150 minutes a week of moderate aerobic activity or 75 minutes a week of vigorous aerobic physical activity. You can also do a combination of moderate and vigorous activity. As a general goal, include at least 30 minutes of physical activity in your daily routine — and if you can do more, even better.

My friend has breast cancer in second stage. Can she live happily without fearing about death?
She definitely does not need to think about death. Hopefully she will live long. Second stage is a very good stage. Positive thinking beats all odds. She should just be regular with her treatment and follow up.

I am 59. Taking 750ml lukewarm water along with lemon juice and a tablespoon of honey early in the morning regularly. Is it alright at this age even in summer days? Furthermore, I have long been suffering from prostatic for last about 4-5 years. For the last one month, according to the advice of a good Doctor of Ayurveda, I have been taking (1) Himplasia-2tabs-twice daily, (2) Kachnar guggulu-3tabs-twice daily and (3) Guksharadi guggulu-3tabs-twice daily and feeling unique benefits so far. Are these Ayurvedic medicines dependable to be totally cured of the prostatic? How long am I to continue with these medicines. Please suggest.

Respected lybrate-user hi definately you can take the mixture you told without hesitation. So far as prostate cure is concerned any allopathic or ayurvedic agents are going to control symptoms of prostate & delay with slight decrease in growth rate of prostate. Nothing is going to absolutely cure you for rest of your life at all. So you have to continue medicines you can't stop & if you stop all previous symptoms will come back again. Thanks regards welcome anytime for any queries dear.

What are symptoms of breast cancer? I have a tumor in my breast, what I have to do?

Post Doctoral Research (Ph.D.) (A.M) (Oncology), Integrative Oncology for Physicians (MSKCC, N.Y, USA), Doctor of Natural Medicine (N.D/ N.M.D), Ayurveda (I) Cert., Advanced Strategic Management (APSM), B.E (Computer Sc. & Engg.), Clinically Relevant Herb-Drug Interactions (CME) - (Cine-Med Inc. USA)
Alternative Medicine Specialist, Bhubaneswar
Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking help. Symptoms manifest majorly in the following ways - a. Lump/ nodule in the breast that gets attached to the skin of the breast over time. B. Enlarged lymph nodes in the axilla which are palpable. C. Rarely, red, swollen and tender breast. In your case, however, it may be a benign tumor. Nevertheless, to be on a safer side, I would advise you to get this clinically examined by a gynaec oncologist right away and not delay any further. Imaging, either through mammography or mri subsequently followed by a biopsy is always the gold standard for accurate diagnosis of breast cancer. I wish you all the very best. Take care.
