Respirator or Mask - Which One Should You Choose?

MBBS, DNB (General Medicine)

Respirator or Mask - Which One Should You Choose?

Breathe in and breathe out, is an involuntary continuous action through which the human body receives the oxygen it requires for proper functiong. Without oxygen, our entire circulatory system would collapse. However, with the amount of pollutants present in the air today, the air we breathe is not as pure as it should be. Instead of breathing in oxygen, we’re breathing in harmful gases like carbon monoxide and sulphur dioxide along with particulate matter. Prolonged exposure to pollutants like this can seriously endanger our health and well-being. Air pollution spreads easily and the only way to protect oneself from it is by creating a barrier that filters the air we breathe in.

And, for this reason it is advisable that one should wear a respirator or mask. When wearing a mask or respirator the most important part is to ensure that it seals your nose and mouth effectively. Otherwise, pollutants can enter through the gaps and contaminate the filtered air. But how should one decide, which type of mask is suitable for them and for that we need to understand what all masks are available.

Respiratory masks can be grouped into three categories:
Surgical masks

  • Simple flat masks as worn by doctors while operating
  • Highly beneficial where there is heavy particulate matter density in the air as they are effectve at filtering out particulate matter
  • Does not offer protection against harmful chemicals
  • It is a good idea to wear these masks while travelling through dusty zones or when caught in a storm
  • Offer protection only for a limited time
  • Cannot bot be reused
  • Cost around few hundred rupees

Respirators

  • Respirators have similar structure as that of surgical masks
  • They fit the face better that surgical mask
  • Have filters installed and protection against particulate matter and against certain gases and chemicals
  • For better protection, they should be washed regularly against harmful fumes and particulate matter encountered
  • Should be used while travelling through heavy traffic zones and while working in construction zones
  • Ideal way to to protect yourself
  • Cost around few hundred to thousand rupees, based on thier quality and brand

Gas masks

  • Gas masks are often worn in chemical laboratories
  • Special replaceable filters offer full protection against, both particulate matter and harmful chemicals
  • Basic mask costs around 1000 rupees and higher based on quality and brand

If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult the doctor and ask a free question.

I am 16 year old and I want to increase my height can you please help me regarding this case if you have any idea tha...
Though, it is possible to increase height after the age of 18 years, extra effort is required in order to reap positive results since the development of the body slows down gradually. It?s a well-known fact that nutrition is imperative for further growth and development, most importantly for natural height gain. In addition to this, a number of other factors should also be taken into consideration to trigger height growth after attaining the age of 18. Here are healthy ways on how to increase height naturally after 18. Minerals like calcium, manganese and zinc aids in building bone tissue, improving blood circulation and boosts height growth naturally. So have broccoli, cabbage, spinach, prunes, peaches, grapes, bananas, pumpkin, carrot, peanuts and legumes. You should include vitamin A rich foods like spinach, beetroot, carrots, chicken, cantaloupe, papaya, peach, milk, apricots, tomatoes and peas. Exercise is a vital factor in increasing your height. Simple exercises like skipping, hanging from an overhead bar and stretching the body by standing on your toes should be part of your daily workout routine. Additionally, sports activities like basketball, football and swimming are also beneficial for increasing height. Yoga is also very effective and is considered to be one of the best exercise to increase height after 18 years. Yoga can?t change your genes but it can give you a good posture. When you stand straight without slouching you automatically look tall. Suppose, you sit at a desk for a long time, your spine gets a slight curvature and the shoulders appear round. This doesn?t mean your bones are deformed but the muscles supporting the bones become lax and stretched out to a point that body assumes the posture that you are most comfortable in. So even when you stand you are slouching that makes you look shorter. Yoga can?t change your skeletal growth but it can surely give you good posture and alignment that makes you look tall. Spine lengthening and good posture forms the core of yoga. Doing the mountain pose, will help to strengthen and lengthen your spine and give you a good height. Suryanamaskar or Sun Salutation is a great way to increase height and stay fit. The twelve poses are done in a cyclic manner to strengthen muscles and improve posture. If you don?t have too much time on your hands, you can just practice Suryanamaskar for 10-20 times each day. Trikosana or triangle pose is great way to achieve good height and body balance. The parivrittatrikosana or reverse triangle pose also helps in gaining height. Vrikasana or tree pose help in getting balance and harmony. Tree pose also helps to stretch the muscles of the body. You can also practice breathing and meditation to calm your mind and de-stress. Since a mind free of depression and stress helps in proper growth. Water flushes out toxins from your body and aids in digestion. Therefore, at least drinking 8 glasses of water every day is recommended for a better health any queries inform me..

- use a soft toothbrush -- and brush properly! brush your teeth for at least two minutes twice a day and after meals. Hard brushing can further damage the soft tissues of your mouth. - floss at least once a day and be sure to floss beyond the gum line to remove more plaque. - control bleeding by applying pressure to the area with a cold compress. - rinse with salt water or hydrogen peroxide to keep the area clean. Avoid mouthwashes that contain alcohol, which can dry out your mouth. - stay away from smoking and other tobacco products, which can aggravate bleeding gums. - eat a balanced diet and limit snacking between meals. Carbohydrates and sugars feed dental plaque. - try an oral irrigation device, commonly known as a" water pick, to clear debris from around the gum line. - you may need deep cleaning along with surgical curettage or gum strengthening procedure. Use pepsodent tooth paste & gum paint for 2 to 3 weeks. Advance procedures can be done with laser. You may consult me in person.

Hello, in the field of hair restoration, evidence supports prp therapy as a promising treatment option to promote hair growth. No claim can be made of its efficacy. While prp is in the early stages of scientific research in hair restoration, prp is not meant to replace current fda approved therapies such as dht blockers and minoxidil. But it is a promising non-surgical therapeutic option for those patients with hair loss.

Is Your Toothbrush Making You Sick?
When somebody in the household gets sick with the cold or flu, it won't be long before the entire family is feeling ill, as well. Germs pass from one person to another, more so between people who live together, because of unhygienic habits. Storing and cleaning the toothbrush is one of the most overlooked aspect of home life that potentially spreads diseases. A badly kept toothbrush can also cause oral infections and other chronic health illnesses.
Don't Share That Toothbrush
Toothbrush sharing is vile but also intimate. Some new couples validate their new romances by sharing toothbrushes. Don't do it! Sharing the same toothbrush is not like exchanging bodily fluids while kissing. Toothbrush bristles get into the crevices of the gums and teeth, pushing germs deep into the tissue. The body has many natural defenses against infections, but become vulnerable when there is a tear in the tissue, something that happens often in the mouth. You might have bitten your tongue or gum, flossed too forcefully between the teeth or scratch the gum with hard brush bristles.
Don't Cover Toothbrushes
People put plastic covers on the toothbrush head thinking it protects it from airborne germs. And it does, but the confined and moist environment toothbrush covers create also exponentially increases the amount of germs already on the toothbrush. Toothbrush covers help when packing for trips, because it keeps the bristles from collecting dust and other dirt on the bottom of your bag. Wrapping your toothbrush in paper is even better when travelling, because paper is disposable and absorbs extra moisture while protecting bristles from getting dirty. In the bathroom, keep the toothbrush out to dry in a cup holder, away from the toilet bowl. Don't crowd several toothbrushes in one holder to avoid cross contamination.
Rinse Under Running Water
After use, rinse your toothbrush under running water to remove as much debris as you can and dilute germs on the toothbrush head. Every now and then soak the entire toothbrush head for a few minutes in mouthwash or a solution of salt and warm water to disinfect. The American Dental Association recommends that you change your toothbrush every 3 to 4 months. Replace children's toothbrushes even more frequently, as they wear out much faster. Since there are so many different kinds of toothbrushes, quality and durability differs. Change your brush when it looks too worn or dirty, rather than waiting for 3 to 4 months to pass.
Some people clean their brushes by heating it in the microwave or leaving it in a dishwasher. This can damage some toothbrushes but could work for others. These methods and the use of mouthwash and sanitizing solutions to clean toothbrushes, are not supported by the American Dental Association, because there is no clinical evidence to show that they actually suppress bacterial growth. But, if some rituals make you feel better, and they work for you, don't give them up if it helps you have consistent hygiene habits.

Dear , heavy bleeding could be due to many reasons. May be you are approaching towards your menopause, otherwise this may occur due to fibroid in uterus. You may get an ultrasonography of lower abdomen done to rule out any fibroid. Thanks.
