I have white spots on my skin like on face, knee, hands etc. How can I cure them? I want to know about this disease.

Homeopath, Faridabad
Hello, white patches on your skin are a common type of depigmented skin lesion associated with an infection, allergy, or autoimmune disorder. One common cause of white spots, or hypopigmentation, is a fungal infection of the skin known as tinea versicolor (associated with other symptoms, such as itching or dryness on or around the white patches). This fungal infection is not contagious and can be treated easily with over-the-counter medications. Please tell me other symptoms like about sensation on the area, since how long do you have this patch, any family history of white patch, etc.

Eye Health - 6 Ways You Can Maintain It!

General Physician, Bangalore
Eye Health - 6 Ways You Can Maintain It!

Your eyes are one of the most important sense organs, which help in perceiving up to 80 percent of all major impressions. All your important daily activity like reading, internet surfing, driving etc are done with the help of your eyes. You should never take your eyes for granted. There are many ways in which you can take care of your eyes to ensure that you see and experience the world at its very best.

  1. Quit Smoking: Smoking makes you vulnerable to a majority of health related problems. When it comes to the health of your eyes, smoking can place you at a risk of uveitis (inflammation of the middle layer of your eye which includes ciliary body, iris and choroid) and cataracts (clouding of the lens in your eyes leading to a blurry vision).
  2. Wear sunglasses: Proper sunglasses can protect you from the harmful ultra violet (UV) rays of the sun. You should still use sunglasses even if your contact lenses offer UV protection. Too much of UV rays can cause pingeucula (yellow bump on the eyeball) and other serious eye problems. Polarized lenses can help to give your eyes proper protection while driving.
  3. Screen time: Minimize the amount of time staring at the computer screen as it can cause
  4. Anti- Glare:  Use an anti-glare screen on your computer at work so that the strain and pressure on your eyes are less.
  5. Regular exercise: Exercise such as walking can prevent degeneration of the macula (present in the center of the retina in your eyes) which typically occurs by the time you reach the age of 60.
  6. Don't Ignore: You should look at changes in your vision as an early warning sign. The changes would include difficulty to see in low light, hazy and double vision, along with abnormal swelling and severe pain in your eyes.

You should visit your eye doctor for check ups at least once every two years. Eye diseases like diabetic retinopathy have no early warning symptoms and can only be diagnosed through a comprehensive eye exam. You should also ensure that the prescription for your contact lenses and eye glasses are up to date. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a general physician.

Soya Foods Lowers Sperm Count

B.Sc., B.A.M.S., C.C.Y.P., M.D. (Ayurveda)
Ayurveda, Aligarh
Soya Foods Lowers Sperm Count

1. Eating about half a serving a day of soya-based foods could lower a men's sperm count.

2. Look at the relationship between semen quality and a plant form of female sex hormone oestrogen known as phytoestrogen, which is plentiful in soya-rich foods

3. Researchers from britain analysed the intake of 15 soya-based foods in 99 men. They were asked how much and how often in the prior 3 months they had eaten soya-rich foods. The researchers divided the men in to groups according to the soya consumption levels. Men in the highest group on average ate half a serving per day. It was found that men in the highest intake category had 41 million sperm/ml less than men who ate no soya foods.

4. A normal sperm count ranges from 80 million and 120 million per ml, and a sperm count of 20 million per ml or below is considered low.

5. The associtation betwwen soya foods and lower sperm count was stronger in owerweight men.

6. This was attributed to the presence of higher levels of androgen-produced oestrogen in overweight men.

7. The finding suggest that soya foods could affect the male reproductive system, especially sperm production. However, more studies are needed to check whether soys food could cause infertility. (human reproduction, july 2008)

As per your dates, I can see that your day of intercourse is not falling in the high risk days of ovulation. If you are planning for a baby, you would need to go for ovulation study by ultrasound and plan the intercourse around the day of ovulation. You also need to see that your thyroid problem is under control. Your other symptoms may be due to vitamin b 12 deficiency.

FINDINGS: The MRI study of the lumbosacral spine disclosed evidence of degeneration of lumbar intervertebral disc spaces depicted by low signal intensity on T2 and reduced height at T121L1, Ll/2, L2/3 and L4/S disc spaces. There is mild dorsolumbar kyphosis at L1I2. The spinal canal is of normal satisfactory caliber. The conus is of normal shape and normal signal. The L 112disclosed posterior right paracentral broad based disc protrusion. The L2/3 disclosed posterior left paracentral broad based disc protrusion with focal high signal intensity consistent with focal tear in the annulus fibrosus at posterior left paracentral region. The L4/5 disc space disclosed posterior central broad based disc protrusion with left predominance causing significant compression on the anterior surface of the thecal sac at this level and associated with narrowing of lateral recesses bilaterally more pronounced on the left side with compromising of the exiting left L5 nerve root. CONCLUSION: The MRl examination of the lumbosacral spine disclosed degenerative changes of lumbar intervertebral disc spaces more pronounced on T 121L1, L 112 and L4/5 with mild dorsolumbar kyphosis at L 112 and posterior right paracentral broad based disc protrusion at L 112, posterior left paracentral broad based disc protrusion at L2/3 and posterior central broad based disc protrusion at L4/5. Sir you are having left Lowe limb radiating pain along with tingling and Numbness, you can't walk for long because of leg pain. This is all because of nerve compression by disc material. As per the reports compression is significant but I can comment with confidence after seeing the mri films. Two options are there in your case if pressure over nerve is moderate we can try pain block injection or if pressure over nerve is severe then surgery is the only choice left. But we can decide the treatment modality after seeing the mri films only. Just to inform you now a days technology is so advance that hardly it required more then three stitches after the surgery. No bed rest you can go home next day your own. We are using minimal invasive techniques like endoscopic and microscopic surgery for such type of cases with excellent results.

Weight lifting and squats help give a good shoe to the lower torso. Side leg lifts are also good. You may eat more calories if it does not make you very bulky on the other parts. If you have a slim body, eat more and do the mentioned exercises.

Everyone has a favourite face cream or treatment, but beautiful skin starts with nourishment from within. Older cells are constantly shed and replaced by younger ones and a steady supply of micronutrients is essential to support this rapid growth. Eat the correct balance of foods and you'll feed your skin the vital nutrients it needs to help it stay soft, supple and blemish-free. Eat your five-a-day Fruit and vegetables contain powerful antioxidants that help to protect skin from the cellular damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals are caused by smoking, pollution and sunlight and can cause wrinkling and age spots. Eat a rainbow of colourful fruit and vegetables and aim for at least five portions a day. Betacarotene, found in pumpkin, carrots and sweet potatoes, and lutein, found in kale, papaya and spinach are potent antioxidants, important for normal skin cell development and healthy skin tone. Vitamin C Vitamin C is also a super antioxidant. It is needed for a strong immune system, radiant skin and helps blemishes heal properly. The best sources are blackcurrants, blueberries, broccoli, guava, kiwi fruits, oranges, papaya, strawberries and sweet potatoes. They all help to produce collagen that strengthens the capillaries that supply the skin. Cut out crash diets Repeatedly losing and regaining weight can take its toll on your skin, causing sagging, wrinkles and stretch marks. Crash diets are often short in essential vitamins too. Over long periods of time this type of dieting will reflect on your skin. Stock up on selenium Selenium is a powerful antioxidant. It works alongside other antioxidants such as vitamins E and C and is essential for the immune system. Studies suggest that a selenium-rich diet can help to protect against skin cancer, sun damage and age spots. One way to boost your intake is to eat Brazil nuts. Just four nuts will provide the recommended daily amount (RDA). Mix Brazil nuts with other seeds rich in vitamin E as a snack or salad sprinkle. Other good sources are fish, shellfish, eggs, wheatgerm, tomatoes and broccoli. Vitamin E Vitamin E protects skin from oxidative (cell) damage and supports healthy skin growth. Foods high in vitamin E include almonds, avocado, hazelnuts, pine nuts and sunflower and corn oils. Drink up Skin needs moisture to stay flexible. Even mild dehydration will cause your skin to look dry, tired and slightly grey. Drink six to eight glasses of water a day - all fluids count towards your daily allowance, but water is the best. If you work in an office, keep a large bottle of water on your desk to remind you to drink. Herbal, caffeine-free teas are good too. Try to avoid smoking and excessive alcohol consumption, both can age the skin.

Hi If you have localized back pain with - no neurological symptoms like numbness, paresthesia, weakness in limbs etc, my advice is: - intensive physical therapy initially under supervision of a physiotherapist and then at home. - avoid forward bending, lifting heavy weights etc - take an analgesic like diclofenac or something which suits your body for 5-7 days - take muscle relaxant for same time as analgesic to relieve muscle spasm - ice packs at the site of pain, muscle spasm - local analgesic spray can be used but no massage is required let me know how you are feeling. I will actually ask you to get x ray of involved region of spine ( ap & lateral) and send reports across to me so that I can advise further in a better manner. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance

Don't worry it will be all right, main cause of this is only due to some weakness some times due to some performance stress. Don't worry just take proper diet some medicines and sleep.
