Hi Mam, I have a 4 year old son which was born delayed, and admitted 13 days in hospital due to blood clot in the back side of skull. Now he is looking normal but some time he has become more hi-per and throwing the things which is he has in his hand. Also he still not speaking properly. Is there any problem? As you have mentioned that he is looking normal but some time he becomes hyper. At this age child becomes fussy some time which is not unusual. This may be due to not fulfilling his desire which could have been done in his early age out of too much affection and love and at his indication with out making him to speak, this may be reason of his not speaking well. If you don't find the reason for your son, pls consult pediatrician or psychiatrist.

Fever may be a symptom of some serious infection. Oflo m is an antibiotic usually used for stomach infection. It should not be given without consulting a doctor. Show to a pediatrician.

My Doctor have advised me to breastfeed my baby in every 2 hours. But how much time should I allow my baby per feeding?

My Doctor have advised me to breastfeed my baby in every 2 hours. But how much time should I allow my baby per feeding?
Current consensus is breast feeding on demand. So if the baby is hungry he or she will cry. There is no fixed time needed per feed. If he or she is full then they will stop sucking. Also it is best to alternate between breasts every time.

Bow Legs:What You Need To Know

MD - Paediatrics
Pediatrician, Kolkata
Bow Legs:What You Need To Know

Often children are born with bowing of legs, due to folded leg position in utero.

Once they start putting pressure on them while walking, they may straighten out. This happens generally by 2 to 3 years of age.

If not corrected then they may cause some serious problems:
*shortening of 1 leg
*deformity
*difficulty walking running
*higher risk of arthritis.

Persistent bowing may be due some deficiency:
**rickets
*Blount's disease
*lead or fluoride poisoning
*others

First few tests:
25 (oh) vitamin d3 level in serum
Serum free calcium level
X-ray of legs.

How will your pediatrician monitor for a change?

Measurements of distance between knees while a child is lying on the back.

This is monitored to see for any worsening

What can be done?

*treat rickets.
*any other underlying problem to be ruled out.
*braces orthopedic devices to keep the leg in straightened position (serious cases)
**surgery after 3 years (determined according to individual case basis)

All problems may not be solved but timely intervention can change the life of a child forever.

My baby is suffering from Fever, loose motions and vomiting since Friday. I consulted a doctor in Cloudnine but I do not see any improvement in my baby's health. I am giving him crocin DS 240 mg every 6 hrs, but temp remains 100. For loose motions, I gave him Enterogermina and Oflox. Since the effect is not much, doctor advised to stop oflox and start Taxim-O and Zedot 10 mg. For vomiting, Emeset and Lanzol. There is little improvement in vomiting though but not loose motions. Since his temperature is not coming down, he is not even taking in any food. I am trying to give ORS, coconut water and rice Ganji. Its been 3 days and he is still sick like day 1. Please advise.

Medicines take some time to act. Frequent change of medicine may not be useful rather it may be harmful. You have not mentioned nature and number of loose motion. If it is watery without blood and/ or mucous, it is most likrly due to viral infection in which there is no role of Antibiotics. Maintain hydration, give ORS (if not liking ors and prefer water, give him water or liquid of his choice- not sugar rich driks). Continue feeding and follow instruction of pediatrician. More than this advice is beyond the scope due to incmplete information. But i am hopeful that baby will recover.
