My wife is 3 months pregnant now. She saw some dried blood on her underwear this morning. After that no bleeding was observed. Doctor checked her and recommended complete bed rest for few days. Is everything OK?

MD - Alternate Medicine, BHMS
Homeopath, Surat
The bleeding can cause complications in pregnancy and if she does not have absolute bed rest, it can lead to miscarriage. Best not to make her work or do any physical task for 1 - 2 months.

According to my opinion you should not rely on remedies for hypothyroidism in case when you want to have a baby. And there are no such home remedies as such for this condition. You should take proper treatment for hypothyroidism.

Detox Your Body and Be One With Your Spiritual Self

Yoga & Naturopathy Specialist, Delhi
Detox Your Body and Be One With Your Spiritual Self

Fasting not only aids religious beliefs, but also has many spiritual benefits. It is considered the best way to re-energize one's mind, body and soul. It is one of the best ways to detoxify one's digestive system and immune system. One's stomach and pancreas are always in a state of action and hence a few days' rest can actually retune both the systems. Fasting also provides one with the opportunity to reconnect with one's spiritual body. It is a journey of self-discovery. Activities like praying and meditating helps people to connect more with their spiritual self.

How can you detox your body?
Although fasting is one of the best ways to detox one's body, not everyone has the physical strength to perform it. Detoxing can also be performed by having detoxifying foods.

  1. Fruits help in washing out toxins from the body. Green foods like barley, wheatgrass, spinach, alfalfa helps to give a chlorophyll boost to the digestive system. Broccoli sprouts are very high in antioxidants and its ability to stimulate detoxifying enzymes in the digestive system is unparalleled. They are more effective than any fully grown vegetable.
  2. Green tea is full of antioxidants and washes away impurities and toxic substances. It also contains catechins, which increase the function of liver. Vegetables like onions, cabbage, carrots, cauliflowers, turmeric and garlic are best eaten juiced or raw which will help in purging away toxins from the liver thus aiding the cleansing process.
  3. Omega-3 oils like hemp, olive oil, avocado oil help in detoxing. They lubricate the intestinal walls and thus allow the toxins to be absorbed by the oil and wash them away.
  4. Fasting is often aided by meditation, which helps to establish a deeper connection with oneself through faith. While meditating, make sure that you are neat and clean. Clean the environment in which you are fasting. Try to spend a minimum to 10-15 minutes remembering the name of the Supreme and chant his name or mantra. Light a candle to burn your ego and feed animals, birds around you. One should speak in limited amounts during meditation. After you break your fast, you will experience a sense of gratitude towards the food you eat.

I am 8 weeks pregnant I have frequent vomiting after eating every meal whatever I eat I vomit. What is the reason and what is the solution for that? I feel too tired. Pls suggest.

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology, MBBS
What you are having are symptoms of early pregnancy. Till 3.5 - 4 months, some patients experience symptoms like headache giddiness altered taste in mouth retrosternal burning mild breast pain burning in upper part of tummy (above umbilicus) mild pain occasionally on lower tummy frequent passage of urine gaseous distension of tummy infrequent motions weakness feeling of having no energy in body, limbs feel tired feel sleepy all the time feel listless, not interested in any work, nausea vomiting feel like body has fever, but temperature on measurement is normal feel as if you are in convalescent eprios all these symptoms are normal, and are due to the body's response to the hormones released for pregnancy growth. The major symptom is due to hyperacidity, which causes most of the symptoms. This can be tackled with dietary alterations: from getting up to sleeping at night, eat every 2-3 hourly eat dry food stuffs (puffed rice, biscuits, chapati sabji, papad, peanuts, sprouted beans, khakhara, dhokla, idli, dosa, candy, chikki, sweetmeats from mithaiwala, namkeen items.) eat just a small wati full every 2-3 hours try to eat food stuff thats dry. So that it does not come out in vomits eat food stuff at normal temperature, as hot foods have strong aromas eat foods with different tastes to prevent boredom eat food stuff that is ready made, so the energy drained in making it avoided even if you vomit after every food intake, keep on eating, as food neutralizes the acid produced in the stomach avoid foods with excess chilli, spices, masala and oil avoid eating street food esp panipuri, samosas, puris etc even if a patient vomits she always retains a good part of the eaten food in her tummy. So frequent eating will fulfill her daily requirements if you have gone to a gynec for a check up she would have prescribed you some anti emetic tablets, take these anti-emetics meant for pregnant women if plain anti-emetics are not working, you can add to them, some over the counter medicines to tackle acidity like syrups and tablets to reduce acidity as acidity is main cause of vomiting frequent eating will also keep glucose levels high, and help in making you feel better avoid- powders which are put in water to make" energy drinks" like glucon-c, d etc which are finally chemicals. While all kinds of fruits can be consumed in pregnancy, except papaya, pineapple, it is best is to take fruits which are rich in water (watermelon, oranges, sweet lime) keep yourself occupied by involving yourself in activities like reading, listening to music, learning some art like knittting, sewing etc.

Yes you have been given the right injection. The dose of hcg should be 10, 000 iu. Did you travel when she was pregnant. Just give her proper rest, no sexual contact and no intercourse. After that within next 7-8 days her bleeding should stop.

Ayurvedic Herbs To Cure Infertility!

Infertility is a medical condition which is characterised by problems in successful conception, even after prolonged and frequent unprotected sex amongst a couple. Infertility may occur due to problems with either the male, the female partner and in many cases both of them. This condition can cause much strife in a relationship not just within the individuals but also be a cause for social embarrassment. The causes of infertility could be-

  1. Testicular injury or deformed testis,

  2. Irregular menstrual periods,

  3. Problems with erections,

  4. Uterus is ill-shaped,

  5. Premature ejaculation,

  6. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome,

  7. Pelvic inflammatory diseases caused by Sexually transmitted infections such as gonorrhea and Chlamydia,

  8. Scanty sperm count,

  10. Blockage of the fallopian tube.

Other lifestyle related reasons could be excessive alcohol consumption, aging, diabetes, obesity, high pressure and as a side effect of radiation therapy or other medications.

Ayurveda and Infertility-

According to Ayurvedic scriptures, infertility occurs when there is a deficiency of nutrients in the Shukra Dhatu of an individual. This might occur as a result of indigestion and excessive toxic content in the human body. This could be caused due to excessive consumption of spicy foods or if they have chronic stress or anxiety. The Ayurvedic remedies boost the nutrition of the Shukra Dhatu in order to boost fertility. The most potent Ayurvedic herbs which can cure infertility are as follows:

  1. A prescribed consumption of the powder of dried banyan bark along with sugar might help to cure infertility.

  2. The inclusion of cumin and turmeric powder in regulated dosages in your daily food might also help to facilitate fertility.

  3. A consumption of the root of the herb Ashwagandha for 3 times a day has also been shown to be beneficial.

  4. A daily consumption of the powder of Vanari Kalpa in warm milk might help in curing any problems related to the ejaculation of semen.

  5. Consuming a mixture of the powder of Vrushya vati in warm milk, it might help to increase the sperm count.

  6. The consumption of Ayurvedic preparation of phalasarpi (a mixture of the herbs Kustha, manjistha, Triphala, tagara, haldi etc.) might help to deal with the problems of infertility in women.

  7. Yoga also has many effective asanas or poses which help boost both male and female fertility and thus may help in correcting infertility caused due to physical factors such as injuries or deformities.

  8. Changes in lifestyle also have to be brought in such as quitting smoking, reducing alcohol consumption among others.

If you had intercourse during your periods, pregnancy is unlikely. However, check with a home urine pregnancy test.

Diabetes During Pregnancy - Know The Best Ways To Control It!

Gynaecologist, Delhi
Diabetes During Pregnancy - Know The Best Ways To Control It!

Pregnancy brings with it a set of challenges, and for a diabetic woman, these only increase further. Earlier, the risks of dealing with pregnancy and diabetes as a combination were too high. However, over the last few decades, things have changed. The age at which women are choosing to have a baby has gone up. On the other hand, the age of onset of diabetes has come down drastically.
These days, there are many diabetic women who go through pregnancy smoothly without major complications. Of course, there is extra care and precaution required, but it is not something that cannot be planned and managed well between the doctor and the mother-to-be.

The following are some rough guidelines for a pregnant diabetic woman.
Potential complications

  1. It increases the risk of polycystic ovaries, thereby making it difficult to conceive.
  2. Fluctuating sugar levels can be a reason for not being able to conceive, as the body does not see itself as healthy.
  3. It increased the chances of miscarriage.
  4. There are higher chances of birth defects in the developing baby due to very high sugar levels in the first trimester.

If you are planning for a pregnancy, meet with your doctor to review your sugar levels. Chalk out a plan with your doctor, taking into account your diet and nutrition, exercise, lifestyle, and medications.

  1. Diet: Ensure you cautiously decide what and how to eat ahead of your pregnancy. Moving away from refined carbohydrates and processed foods towards wholesome food items like whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables will make a difference.
  2. Exercise: Build an exercise routine to suit your body and keep yourself active. It is very important to stay active so that diabetes is under control.
  3. Lifestyle: Quit smoking and reduce alcohol use. This helps in managing stress also, which can help keep diabetes under check.
  4. Medications: Check with your doctor on the medicines you are taking and if dose adjustments are required to get sugar levels under control, plan them out.

During pregnancy, constant monitoring and vigilance is required to ensure diabetes is under control.

  1. Let your gynecologist know about your condition (stable/fluctuating), and if you are doubtful about them being able to handle your condition, do not hesitate to change.
  2. Many consider switching to oral medications as the risk of transmission to the baby is less and the control over sugar levels is better.
  3. Constant monitoring for daily blood sugars is essential.
  4. A regular, healthy lifestyle in terms of eating and sleeping should help keep the sugars under check.
  5. Constant monitoring of the baby is essential to ensure its normal growth with no developmental defects. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Gynaecologist.

Mam mujhe her mahine period nhi aate hai. Please iske liye koi medicine ho to btaiye.

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Ayurveda, Bangalore
Hello Ms. Lybrate-user causes for irregular periods stress stress, either emotional or physical, can delay your period. A new job, illness, depression, exam, fever, strenuous exercises or a weight gain or loss are some of the reasons that can increase your stress levels and affect your periods. Once you make some changes to alleviate your stress, you could become regular again. Improper eating habits improper eating can affect your hormones like estrogen and cause them to be very high (when you are overweight) or very low (in eating disorders like anorexia or bulimia). Improper production or levels of these hormones can interfere with your menstrual cycle and make them more sporadic and irregular. In this case, you may have delayed periods. Hormonal imbalance if you have hormonal imbalance which can affect your cycles. If you have recently stopped your birth control pill or are having thyroid trouble, you could have hormonal imbalance. Any problems with your hormone production centers like ovaries, adrenal or pituitary glands could also cause a delay in your period. Excessive exercise strenuous and over exercising can cause a dip in the total body fat, which can interfere with your hormonal levels, further affecting your periods. The body requires some amount of fat for ovulation and excessive exercises can hamper the equation drastically. However do not stop exercising completely, only do it moderately. Too much alcohol indulging in high amounts of alcohol can lead to increased estrogen and testosterone levels in the body, which plays havoc with the normal hormonal levels. Thyroid disorders thyroid disorders that lead to high or low hormonal production definitely can! you could either not ovulate at all or have a very weak ovulation cycle due to the disrupted levels of hormones, which can delay your periods or make them irregular. An infection bacterial infections, sexually transmitted diseases or pelvic inflammation can cause the uterus to become inflamed and result in bleeding. This could lead to a false alarm and make your body think that you are having your periods. However, if you notice pain, fever or vomiting along with bleeding, visit your doctor. Polycystic ovarian syndrome you may suffer from pcos or polycystic ovarian syndrome if your body produces excessive androgens or male hormones. Higher levels of androgens interfere with the normal function of the ovaries, leading to immature follicle formation. This does not allow you to ovulate normally and your cycles could be irregular or delayed. Try to rule out the above cause by primary health check up and investigations. Try to be in relaxed and positive attitude is very important. Rx m2 tone syrup 15 ml_0_15 ml dilution with equal amount warm water a/f aloes compound 2_0_2 a/f with warm water danwantara vati 2_0_2 with warm water b/f for 2 weeks.

I am 12 weeks pregnant now and during scan at 12th week found using cardiac twin. One baby is doing fine but other had no cardiac activity. The normal one is pumping blood to the second one. Is it safe to continue pregnancy or better to terminate it immediately. But my doctor is saying to wait for 2 more weeks.

MBBS, MD - Social & Preventive Medicine / Community Medicine, Fellowship of european union of sexual medicine, Fellowship in diabetes
Sexologist, Chandrapur
Its a twin transfusion syndrome I guess. In that case one baby will be dead but other baby may turn out to be normal so better wait as your doctor suggested and do a sonography around 20-24 weeks.
