Hello, this is the withdrawal bleed that you have experienced and it is common and correctly experienced so after 5-7 days of unwanted 72 intake and can continue for 3-5 days of bleeding.

My 13 yrs daughter had first periods on 4th dec. 2014. The periods last for more than 5 days i. E. 8-10 days. The time gap between period is less than normal. It is decreasing. Last time the gap between end of previous periods and start of next period was only 6 days. The periods lasted for around 10-11 days and next time for 5 days. Other complications are - loss of appetite, weight reduce, tiredness and lethargy, irritation etc. Two doctors did not recommended treatment while another doctor has prescribed 21 days medicine course and calcuim syrup. My question is whether the advice of the last doctor is ok. Your advice please.

If your menstrual cycle is 26-28 days,then there is a strong possibility of pregnancy.Go for a Urine pregnancy test.

I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend day before yesterday but he did NOT finish inside me. I took an I pill immediately after that. The day I had sex was the 17th day after my last period (fertile window). Also I suffer from PCOS. Is there anything to worry about? My next period is due on 18th but I am always irregular. Please help.

SInce you have taken i-pill, no need to worry. Your periods can be delayed both becoz of PCOS and I-pill which causes irregular periods.

Hello, Firstly you should start yourself on preconceptions folic acid supplementation from now on daily . Also you should be aware of the fertile period and timed intercourse when the chances of pregnancy are fairly higher. Rest can be advised once you succeed in pregnancy . regards

We are all looking for ways that will help us to lose weight quickly. But while trying to lose weight in a hurry, we should ensure that the various measures we are taking to lose weight are safe too.   1. Cut back on the junk

Junk food contains lots of empty calories that make us to put on weight. So, if you wish to lose weight quickly then you must totally cut back on the junk food. Eat healthy instead. Instead of having junk, eat a healthy home-cooked meal. This will help you a long way in losing weight.

      2. Plan your meals

Make a plan of what you are going to eat. Planning your meals will help you in keeping track of all the food that you have had and all that you are going to have. The meal plans should be calorie controlled. You can make use of the internet for this purpose or you can also refer various books that will guide you in planning meals effectively.

     3. Increase water consumption

Increase the amount of water that you are drinking daily. Drinking lots of water is associated with weight loss. Drinking a glass of water before your meal will make you fell satiated and hence you will consume fewer calories during the meal.

     4. Consult a nutritionist/ dietician

Being productive physically is very important to lose weight. Make it a point to exercise at least 5-6 times a week. You can go for a walk or a jog. Or you can join a sport that you like. Or you can go cycling. Yoga and other exercises can also be performed. Work out for at least 45 minutes to an hour daily.

Good morning. Maam, My gf (21 yrs) had her periods on 9 Jan and v had unprotected sex on 23 Jan. She had an I-pill to avoid pregnancy. Her periods were supposed to come on 4th Feb, bt she didn't had it. Dear patient, there chances of pregnancy are very less if the tablet has been taken within 72 hrs. Suggest you wait for 5 more days and repeat the test. Menstural cycle is also related to the stress and other psychological health of the individual. She is 21 years old and considering the history of cyst I feel she might be having a polycystic ovarian disease which might be also responsible for irregular periods. Please remember that I pill is an emergency contraceptive and should be avoided as much as possible. Other methods of contraception are advisable.

Brown bread or white bread- Which of the two wins the age-old nutrition war?

Bread is a very versatile food variant and finds its place on most breakfast platters. Be it white, brown or whole grain, mass produced quality or home-baked artisan kind, bread is almost indispensable in modern Indian household. There has been incessant debate over which carries the most health benefits and nutritional value, read on to explore…

Why brown or whole wheat bread is good for you?

1. Whole wheat grain

Flour is prepared from wheat berries made out of the bran, the germ and the endosperm they in combination are filled with nutrients. Whole grain or wheat bread intake decreases LDL, or the bad cholesterol, it also helps you retain a healthy body weight due to low carbohydrate content and has a lower glycaemic index that keeps your blood sugar steady.

2. Smooth bowel movements

The fibrous quality provides you relief from irritable bowel syndrome. The bran and germ improves your bowel by increasing the bulk of stools, making it easier to pass through the intestines. If you are prescribed laxative medications all you need to do is have enough brown or wheat bread.

3. Nutrients and vitamins

Breads labelled whole grain contain a large amount of nutrients. One of the most important features of brown bread is that it contains most of B vitamins -including riboflavin, thiamine and niacin -- that helps your body acquire energy from food. Whole wheat breads are also rich in vitamins E, K, pantothenic acid and folate.
Tip – With only a slight difference in taste and texture, wheat bread adds as a great accompaniment with any dish. You can even double it up as a healthy sandwich by adding fresh veggies and cottage cheese, with only minimal preparation.

Why white bread is bad for you?

1. Low fibre content

White bread is low in fibre, an essential in lowering your levels of bad cholesterol and checks the smooth functioning of your gastrointestinal tract. An average slice of white bread consists only 0.5 grams of fibre with the whole wheat bread providing up to 2 grams of fibre.

2. Refined grains

The whole grain is stripped of all its bran and germ for it to be refined where it loses all elements that hold fibre, magnesium, zinc, vitamins and minerals. White bread is made from these refined grains. Even though bread-makers attempt to add some vitamins back in, fibrous whole grains prove to be the clear winner.

3. High glycemic index

This index measures how rapidly food affects your blood sugar and insulin levels compared to pure glucose. White bread has a high glycaemic index due to which it gets rapidly absorbed during digestion, causing sharp spikes in blood sugar and insulin levels. A diet comprising of high-glycaemic foods increases your chances of weight gain, type-2 diabetes and heart problems.

Replace the white bread with the equally tasty, wheat-made variant to score high on the fitness meter!

You will probably start with your periods soon. Try to lose 5-6 kg weight and if your periods are regular, try to do intercourse between 12th to 18th day of your periods. Take one tablet of 5 mg folic acid daily. If you have been trying to conceive since 6--9 months, then there is no harm in seeing a doctor who can guide you better with face to face conversation.

To get pregnant you need to have regular sex i. 3.3-4 times a week for one full year before you start seeking medical help. If you want to make her pregnant fast then you can follow this calender method. If a women’s menstrual cycle varies from 26days to 31days cycle, The shortest cycle (26 days) minus 18 days = 8th day. The longest cycle (31 days) minus 10 days=21st day Thus, 8th to 21st day of each cycle counting from first day of menstrual period is considered as fertile period.

Avoid eating obvious and hidden sugars. Obvious sugars are white/brown sugars with tea milk or coffee. Hidden sugars are in white breat, brown bread, white rice, maida, refined products such as biscuits/cakes/fruit juices/soft drinks and processed foods. Eat multigrain or whole grain foods. No more than 1-2 servings of fruits a day. And it is important to meet a dietician and formulate a proper calorie wise chart based on your recent blood sugar levels.

It is likely to be pms, that can be easily treated by drugs. Please consult gynecologist and get rid of these problems.
