Hair loss problem. How to remove dandruff? What to do for a good long healthy hair.
Hello- dandruff occurs due to less oiling in scalp, so try to oil more and shampoo less. Follow these tips and medicines- 1) avoid fast foods and late night workouts (waking up after 10 makes your skin dry). 2. Use presorea anti dandruff ayurvedic shampoo (it contains tea tree oil which is one of the best herbal remedies for dandruff) 3. Use dhurdhurpatradi hair oil (its contents repair damaged scalp tissue and hence remove dandruff naturally and make your hairs strong and silky.) 4. In home remedies- apply lemon juice once in a week in your scalp to avoid dandruff recurrence.

Hello Washing your face repeatedly is not a solution as your skin which is oily tends to produce oil again and again. Wash your face thrice daily so that excess oil is wiped off. You can use a herbal face wash for washing your face. Use luke warm water to wash your face. Choose an oil free moisturizer and non comedogenic creams for your skin. You can always check this on the back of the products. Use moderate make up and wipe it off before going to bed. Keep your make up brushes clean too. Eat healthy oil free, nuts, dry fruits, walnuts as they are quite beneficial.

Acne marks: scarring: there are various types of acne scars- post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, ice pick, depressed or hypertrophic scars etc. Management varies with the type of scarring. Scarring can be prevented by taking proper medication for acne. Fractional co2 laser or dermabrasion work effectively for acne scars. These are procedures which can be performed by your local dermatologist. Creams will not be of much use for you.

Take 1 tablespoon of milk powder and mix it with one tablespoon of honey, one tablespoon of lemon juice and half tablespoon of almond oil. Mix all the items well, make it a paste and apply it on your face and neck daily and wash after an hour. It will give you a perfect glowing skin. Turmeric is good ingredient for skin. Make a facepack with mixture of turmeric and milk. Apply this and wash off after an hour with cold water for glowing skin. Lemon juice and glycerin work nicely for dry skin whereas fuller’s earth and turmeric are used for oily skin. Take one tomato, grate it well and mix it with 3-4 drops of lime juice. Apply it on your face wait for 15 minutes and then rinse it off. Repeat it daily and feel the change on your face. Soak 4-5 almonds in milk overnight. In the morning make a paste of them and apply it on your face and rinse it off after an hour or two. You will definitely feel the glow on your face in less then 15 days. (you can add honey, oats and yogurt for quicker results) Prepare a fine paste of ripe papaya, oatmeal powder, milk cream and honey. Cover your face with this paste for 15 minutes. Wash it off with water. Apply buttermilk to skin, keep for 10 minutes and then wash off thoroughly for softening, cleansing and radiating effect.

10 Ways To Treat Pigmentation!

MD - Dermatology , Venereology & Leprosy, MBBS
Dermatologist, Delhi
10 Ways To Treat Pigmentation!

Pigmentation of the skin is a medical term, which refers to the phenomena of colouring. Our skin is made up of cells that produce a pigment named melanin. The colour of the skin largely depends on the production of melanin. If more melanin is produced, the skin looks darker and vice-versa. When the melanin producing cells are damaged due to long exposure to sunlight, pregnancy or any other disease, pigmentation of the skin takes place. The skin may get dark entirely or in patches due to pigmentation. In some cases, decolouration takes place or white patches are formed on the skin.

Causes and Types of Pigmentation

The type of skin pigmentation depends on the cause behind it. Here are some of the common causes and types:

  1. Melanin: The skin colour varies from one person to another due to the presence of a pigment called melanin. It is produced by melanocytes cells in our body. Melanin protects our skin from damage on exposure to sunlight. When we spend long hours under the sun, the melanin production is increased. This gives a tanned look.
  2. Freckles: These are caused by clusters of melanin. These gets accumulated or concentrated in clusters on being exposed to sunrays.
  3. Liver Spots/Age Spots: These are also known as solar lentigos. This can be due to ageing or excessive exposure to UV rays.
  4. Birthmarks: These are referred to the irregular blemish that appears on any part of the body soon after birth or at the time of birth. These are of two types: vascular and pigmented.
  5. Melasma/Chloasma Faciei: This is usually found in pregnant women. It occurs due to the over-activation of melanocytes as there is a hormonal imbalance.
  6. Post-inflammatory hyper pigmentation: This refers to inflammation as a result of inflammation caused by trauma.

Treatment: There are several ways to treat skin pigmentation. There are medicines and cosmetics available in the markets, which help in getting rid of the pigmentation. Skin pigmentation can also be tackled by certain home-based remedies. Here are some of these remedies:

  1. Milk and honey face pack: Milk is known to contain lactic acid. Apply a mixture of milk and honey on the affected part of the skin. This makes the hyper pigmented skin lighter in colour.
  2. Vegetable juices: Some vegetables like tomatoes, cucumber and potato are effective in getting rid of the skin pigments. Cut slices of these vegetables and rub them over the affected parts. The juices from these vegetables will lighten the pigmented part.
  3. Avocado magic: It is advisable to peel off an avocado and apply its juice with honey over the affected area.
  4. Add Vitamin E to your diet: Include foods rich in vitamin E in your meals. It helps in restoring the pigmented skin back to its normal form.
  5. Face mask: There are several face masks available that can work wonder in curing pigmentation of the skin. You can use face packs containing oatmeal, honey, sandalwood, turmeric powder, raw milk, and orange powder.
  6. Sun screen: It is important to guard your skin against the ultraviolet rays. UV rays lead to pigmentation of the skin. So, apply a sunscreen lotion or cream before stepping out of your home.
  7. Take up some exercise: A key to a healthy skin is a good lifestyle. One must exercise regularly to maintain proper blood circulation throughout the body. Proper flow of blood keeps the skin healthy and free from pigmentation.
  8. Avoid consumption of alcohol and cigarettes: The consumption of alcohol and cigarettes leads to the generation of toxins in our blood stream. This is harmful to our skin.
  9. Cocoa butter: It has nourishing and de-tanning effects on the skin. Use a cream that contains cocoa butter extracts on daily basis.
  10. Oil massage: Certain oils like olive and almond are good for treating damaged skin. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dermatologist and ask a free question.

Ways To Get Rid Of Stretch Marks Post Pregnancy!

MBBS, Diploma in Venerology & Dermatology (DVD)

Ways To Get Rid Of Stretch Marks Post Pregnancy!

Ask any woman who had a baby in the last one year, as to what was one of her major complaints post pregnancy and the answer would be “stretch marks.” And, if you think of the belly as the only affected area, you are wrong! Even the breasts, calves and arms are affected.

The skin stretches beyond its limits in a short period of time and so these stretch marks appear. It is more common with women who have had excessive weight gain and with multiple babies. It is also hereditary and women with oily skin are less likely to have them. Also, women who regularly apply moisturizer have fewer stretch marks. However, there definitely are ways to both avoid and reduce the stretch marks.

Prevention is definitely more effective.

  1. Stretch mark creams can be used from day one of pregnancy, which can help reduce the formation of these marks.
  2. A good cream could also help eliminate existing stretch marks from earlier pregnancies, in addition to preventing new ones from forming.
  3. It is best to use the cream both during day and night after a warm shower. This will help the skin to absorb the cream optimally, making it more effective.
  4. Preventive lotions have a combination of cocoa butter, shea butter, honey, aloe vera and various oils including almond, castor, olive, vitamin E, and other essential oils. Each of them has their own effective way to control stretch marks.
  5. Other preventive measures include exercise, exfoliation using a scrubber and eating a diet which is low in zinc.

But treatment is the solution if prevention is not possible.

  1. Soon after pregnancy, try and use creams that contain cocoa butter, glycolic acid, various oils like almond, vitamin E, castor, and olive which will help manage the stretch marks.
  2. A good massage using these oils has proved to be one of the best ways to manage stretch marks on the belly and breasts.
  3. There are various on-the-shelf products nowadays for treating these marks, but use the one prescribed by your doctor. The way these chemicals get absorbed and excreted may not be clear to you and if you are breast-feeding, it is safer to consult a doctor before using such items.
  4. In addition to the creams, exercise and sufficient hydration are also essential to help stretch marks disappear.
  5. Laser surgery is another option which can do any of these 3 things – produce pigments in the lighter areas, improve collagen production in the depressed areas, or reduce the color of the darker areas in a stretch mark. Though offered widely, this is best avoided given the side effects.

Stretch marks are an integral part of pregnancy and it is best to let nature run its course after doing everything to prevent it or treating it safely. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dermatologist.
