Mr. Piyush Gujarathi is an Audiologist and Speech Therapist in Matunga, Mumbai and has an experience of 4 years in these fields. Hi. Just to give you the accurate information. Hearing loss can have only severity like either severe or profound loss it cannot be chronic. When your loss is sensorineural it cannot be reveresed nor can be regained by using any supplements. You can hear the world better only with a hearing device.

Hi Mr. lybrate-user, consult with any ENT specialist, depending upon the problem he may guide you to go for Audiometry test done by an Audiologist, to know the type and degree of the hearing loss. Depending upon the results he may be able to advise you whether hearing problem can be treated medically or he needs hearing aids. Thanks.

I am Diabetic. Pp 220-230. Left ear frequently blocked due to discharge of watery substance. Itching. Sometimes blood comes out. Hearing disturbed. Use of ear drop no help. Blocks the passage causing hearing problem. Please suggest remedy.

You must be having ear drum perforation and infection in the ear. Start tab. Advent 625 mg three times a day and tab. Rantac 150 mg twice a day (empty stomach) and oflobe-d ear drops 3-3-3 for 1 week. Get an audiometry (hearing test) done. U may require surgery.

Signs of hearing loss
The signs of hearing loss can be subtle and emerge slowly, or early signs of hearing loss can be significant and come about suddenly. Either way, there are common indications and hearing impaired signs. You should suspect hearing loss if you experience any of the signs below.

You might have hearing loss if you.

Socially:

Require frequent repetition.
Have difficulty following conversations involving more than 2 people.
Think that other people sound muffled or like they're mumbling.
Have difficulty hearing in noisy situations, like conferences, restaurants, malls, or crowded meeting rooms.
Have trouble hearing children and women.
Have your tv or radio turned up to a high volume.
Answer or respond inappropriately in conversations.
Have ringing in your ears.
Read lips or more intently watch people's faces when they speak with you.
Emotionally:

Feel stressed out from straining to hear what others are saying.
Feel annoyed at other people because you can't hear or understand them.
Feel embarrassed to meet new people or from misunderstanding what others are saying.
Feel nervous about trying to hear and understand.
Withdraw from social situations that you once enjoyed because of difficulty hearing.


Medically:
Have a family history of hearing loss.
Take medications that can harm the hearing system (ototoxic drugs).
Have diabetes, heart, circulation or thyroid problems.
Have been exposed to very loud sounds over a long period or single exposure to explosive noise.

Exposure to loud sounds for long term leads to Noise Induced hearing loss. Hence, I would advise to use good quality ear plugs at work place and agreeing to fellow audiologist try to avoid loud sounds.

Try the following remedy it will surely help you 1. Add 4 garlic cloves in 1 glass water 2. Heat water for 10 min to soften the cloves 3. Crush the cloves to make 1 tsp garlic paste 4. Add a pinch of salt 5. Mix well 6. Wrap the paste in a thin piece of cloth 7. Place the cloth on the infected ear Causes: • Eustachian tube inside the ear drains out the body fluids that are produce in the middle ear. Any blockage in this tube causes the fluids to collect, leading to an infection. The blockage may occur due to: o Allergies o Cold o Sinus o Smoke it will surely help you.

I talk very loudly. People say I talk as if giving lectures. I have 40 decibels conductive hearing loss n both ears but I am able to manage it. I have issue only when people talking very softly. Pls guide.

Other people talking is not yoru problem: you say that people's observation is that you speak loudly. It is definitely coming from your own hearing loss whereby you have not accurate feedback mechanism to know your volume and to make necessary corrections. Now that you know about this is it possible to speak in a volume that is less audible to you but that you know it is sufficient to the hearing level of the other people. With time and practice you will be able to master this technique.
