The best treatment of Gout consists of restoring the balance of Vata (Air element) and detoxifying the blood. High protein diet should be avoided in cases of increased uric acid. Mix one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water and drink it two to three times daily. If you find this remedy helpful, you can increase the dosage of apple cider vinegar to up to two tablespoons. Take maha rasnadi kwath 2-2 tsf twice a day. Take maha yograj guggul 1-1 twice a day. Kaishor guggul and chandraprabha vati 1-1 twice a day. Avoid junk food. Fermented food. Spicy food. Tea.coffee. Do pranayama early morning. Avoid alcohol consumption. Consult me in private for more details.

I am 61 yrs old male. I am having type 2 diabetes (last 3yrs), hypo-thyroid (last 15yrs), enlarged liver, spleen and prostate, cataract (early stage), slight varicose on the left leg. Avoid stress. Some Relax during work. Drink more water, high-carbohydrate foods such as potatoes, rice, pasta and bread. You can take Nutrient-rich foods that improve your health may also benefit your thyroid gland, antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables more plenty of water: Blueberries, tomatoes, bell peppers, and other foods rich in antioxidants can improve overall health and benefit the thyroid gland. Eating foods high in B vitamins, like whole grains, may also help. Selenium: Tiny amounts of selenium are needed for enzymes that make thyroid hormones to work properly. Eating selenium-rich foods, such as sunflower seeds or Brazil nuts, can be beneficial. Tyrosine: This amino acid is used by the thyroid gland to produce T3 and T4. Taking a supplement may help, avoid oily foods, junk foods, go for walk. Tests every 3 to 6 months.

Recently I did the blood test for thyroid and Hb. My thyroid is 3.9 and Hb is 9.5.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
lybrate-user, Thanks for the query. Your TSH if it is 3.9 mU/L, then it is normal. No reason to worry. Hemoglobin 9.5 g/100 ml is low. Needs to be improved. It signifies you have anemia. Start on Iron, B12, folic acid containing preparations. Treatment should go on for 5 to 6 months. Plus take more of green leafy vegetables. Thanks.

Hello , don't worry, he will be completely cured. He is already affected with diabetes, pls use the medicine prescribed by doctor. Bad smell in the toilet may come due to heavy medication. Make sure he doesn't drink water before sleep, add fruits and raw vegetables to his diet in the night hours like carrot, apple, beetroot etc. For his weakness, add milk, wheat, soya to his diet. Let me suggest some good natural food supplements from the brand called nurilite.Your father will be cured completely, just take a good care of him. Have a nice day.

Hi, as you r having hypothyroidism you r ought to put on weight. U feel fatigued & tired, this is all due to hormonal changes. First of all you must hv to start taking Thyroxine medicine daily on empty stomach after getting your TSH done. The dose will be adjusted after your report. You hv to take medicine for whole of your life. After 3-6 months your symptoms will start decreasing. Along side you must start going to Gym. Stop eating fatty things, sugar&maida items& fried &fast foods. Green tea is good.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Lybrate-user, with anti - tpo abs being high (688.8) you are having hashimoto's thyroiditis (ht), which has caused hypothyroidism. Tsh may be normal, but there is hypothyroidism. That is the reason for increasing weight or being unable to reduce it. So you need to start treatment with thyroxine tablets right away. Thanks. If you have any doubts please come in a private conversation where I will be able to guide specifically. In usa ht is the main cause of hypothyroidism. It will be good if you go through a note on ht written by me in the medical tips, that will give you an idea about the condition. Thanks.

My husband was a thyroid cancer patient (pappilary carcinoma). He was undergone thyroid gland removal surgery on 2013 september. And then radiation two times for the complete removal of the gland parts which cant be done by surgery. Now his doctor says he has completely recovered and the scanning report also shows this. He is fine now. Some days ago I had read a story of another cancer patient through facebook. She had lymph node cancer and doctor suggested her chemotherapy. She says that she recommend patients radiation not to be done. Radiation may cause some other cancer in the future. Is this true? I m tensed after reading this. My husband had undergone radiation treatment two time in regional cancer centre, trivandrum. Is there any chance to cause some other cancer in future due to radiation?

First of all I want you to understand that thyroid cancers are not like other cancers in the head and neck are and have best prognosis among all cancers I think already treatment is done for your husband which usually includes thyroidectomy and post operative radio iodine ablation. Chances of recurrence are very very minimal with 20 year survival rate of more than 90 percent in other words very rarely we see patient of papillary carcinoma of thyroid dying because of papillary carcinoma of thyroid. So you need not worry and go for regular follow up as per your doctors instructions.

Thyroid - Does It Impact Sex Life?

Thyroid - Does It Impact Sex Life?

The thyroid gland is a tiny gland that produces the hormones which affect the body's metabolic process. When these hormones are produced in less or more quantities, it may result in an imbalance of the thyroid gland, leading to a range of thyroid issues including hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism and others. Overproduction or underproduction of the thyroid hormones can also cause a variety of other symptoms and conditions. While this affects the state of one's general well being, health and weight, it also has an effect on the patient's libido.

Let us learn more about the link between thyroid and sex:

  • Thyroid in Men: Men who are suffering from hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism as well as related conditions like goitre or Garves Disease, have complained of sex related problems. These problems are known to affect at least 50% to 60% of the patients, as per various medical reports. The sex related issues include premature ejaculation, low sex drive, delayed ejaculation, erectile dysfunction, and others.
  • Thyroid in Women: It has been found that almost 10% of women over the age of 50 suffer from some form or the other of thyroid hormone imbalance. Apart from fatigue, depression and muscle ache as well as weight alteration, depending on the type of thyroid problem, thyroid patients who are women have also experienced problems when it comes to libido. Sexual dysfunction and arousal problems are high on the list of these issues.
  • Hormonal Treatment: One of the most common ways of treating this sex related thyroid problems for thyroid patients is through the use of hormonal therapy. Besides getting the testosterone, estrogen and other androgen levels checked, the patient must also get a full hormonal evaluation along with a check-up of the adrenal function. This can help in pointing any anomalies and the hormones that will require replacement with the help of appropriate medication.
  • Optimal Drug Treatment: A T4 only drug or Levothyroxine can lead to a resolution of sexual problems that one encounters as a part of thyroid problems. There are many doctors who may switch to a T3 drug once the libido is restored and brought back to normal.
  • Supplements: Men may require testosterone supplements, while women may need estrogen or progesterone supplements to tackle the sexual problems in such cases. These can be rendered as a patch or through an injection.
  • Sex Therapy: In many cases, sex therapy considered as a popular and effective form of addressing the problems and helping the patients get around the same. This is especially helpful if depression is one of the symptoms of the thyroid disorder.

A thorough physical check-up also helps in treating such problems for thyroid patients. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Sexologist.

My sugar level is 110, is it k or is it necessary to take any precautions to control my sugar level, tell me which type of food I have to take.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Mr. Lybrate-user, the level mentioned is ok. There are no special precautions, but just taking a healthy diet and doing regular exercise for 1 hour plus will keep fit and is likely help in preventing getting high blood sugar. This is particularly so if your parents have diabetes. Because t2 dm is a hereditary but prevetablecondition,

I am male 33years diabetic since 1 year sugar is under control weight 70kg. Can I eat 7/6 dates in morning.

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology
Endocrinologist, Hubli-Dharwad
Mr Mohsin, If your fasting sugar is closer to 100 mg and PP is around 150 to 160 mg / 100 ml, HbA1c<7%, then one can say diabetes is under control. But to keep it under control daily food intake has to be measured along with exercise, diet and drugs. Eating 1 date may be ok not more.
