Hello. Get your eyes tested first and let me know the report, will guide you accordingly. Meantime, Include the following for getting better vision: Vitamins A, C, E, and minerals like copper and zinc are essential to eyesight. Get the antioxidants from dark leafy greens, egg yolks, yellow peppers, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, and carrots. Include garlic and onions. Blueberries, grapes as they have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that can help improve your vision. DHA is a fatty acid found in coldwater fish like salmon, sardines and mackerel. Exercises for eyes: Warm your eyes. Rub your palms together to create heat, and then place them against your eyes for five seconds. Repeat this three times. Roll your eyes. Start by looking up and then slowly circle 10 times clockwise and 10 times counterclockwise. Focus. Hold a pen at arm's length, focus your eyes on it, and slowly bring the pen closer until it's about 6 inches away from your nose. Then slowly move it back, keeping your eyes focused on the pen, 10 times in all. Massage your temples. Using your thumb knuckles, massage your temples in small circles, 20 times in one direction and 20 in the other. Repeat the same actions above the mid-point of the eyebrows at the forehead, then below the eyes on both sides of the bridge of the nose. Take a mini-nap. Put your head back, close your eyes, and relax for 3 minutes. Insufficient sleep may weaken your vision, so shoot for 8 hours of sound sleep a night. Rest your eyes 10 minutes for every 50 minutes spent reading or in front of the computer. If your eyes feel overly tired, lie down and place cooling cucumber slices over your eyelids.

I have red eyes for 3 days.& For that sake I was unable to sleep. What should I do. please help.

I have red eyes for 3 days.&
For that sake I was unable to sleep.
What should I do. please help.
Redness of the eyes has multiple causes associated with it. To enumerate a few common causes: (1) allergy of the eye. It is usually caused by improper eye hygiene. There is a tendency to rub the eyes with fingers, handkerchief, cloth, etc. This is not a good habit because it tends to transmit lots of virus, bacteria and dust into the eye. Allergy usually presents with symptoms of watering (clear water), redness and itching of the eye. (2) infectious conjunctivitis: this is usually associated with white-yellowish discharge. If so, it would be a good idea to go and show to an eye specialist in person. (3) foreign body lodged in the eye. This is more commonly associated with people who drive 2 wheeler vehicles without protection. It occurs more commonly in one eye. Foreign bodies that commonly get lodged are eyelashes, insect wings, small insects, dust particles, iron particles (more common with people working in the iron industry) the solution for a foreign body lodged in the eye would be better provided by an eye specialist at the clinic. (4) raised intraocular pressure: this is a condition known as glaucoma. It is not so common as the previous mentioned conditions. There is usually associated pain in the eyes. It is commonly bilateral (occurs in both eyes). There is usually a positive family history of glaucoma associated in a majority of the cases. (5) inflammation of the coats of the eyeball. This is known as" uveitis" it is also a relatively less common condition. There is associated pain. It would require a thorough eye checkup including the retina-thus a good idea would be to visit the eye specialist in person. From the symptoms described by you, it seems more likely to be a case of allergy. Maintaining the precautions and hygiene that I mentioned should probably work well for you. Hope my suggestions helped you.

There can be two causes here-------------------- 1. Sometimes when you stand up or change positions quickly, your body's vascular system doesn't have time to respond appropriately by constricting the veins in your feet and legs. When this happens, blood pools in your legs temporarily and the blood flow to your brain is very briefly affected, leading to symptoms like dizziness or black spots in front of the eyes. You can solve this problem by staying well hydrated, by changing positions slowly, and by talking with your doctor to determine whether you might be taking any medications that could be making this problem worse. --------------- 2. The second possibility are floaters. These are small collections of protein that form inside the liquid of the eye ball with normal aging. They cast shadows on the retina and therefore are seen as dancing grey or black spots or wavy lines. They are generally not much of a nuisance, but they may be more noticeable when changing position quickly as they suddenly shift around under the influence of gravity. You should consult your doctor for aphysical examination although eye floaters poses no threat to your eyes.

Hello lybrate-user. There are multiple causes responsible for diminution/ blurring of vision. Let me enumerate them in brief for you: (1) refractive error. This is one of the commonest reasons responsible. Minus or plus number in one eye or both eyes may be responsible for weak/ blurred vision. The solution for this is glasses/ contact lens/ refractive surgery (if applicable). It should be checked by a trained optometrist/ ophthalmologist and proper glasses should be prescribed. (2) cornea related problem: injury, degeneration, infections or inflammation occurring on the cornea tend to causes loss of transparency and lead to weakening of vision. These should be assessed preferably by a cornea specialist and treated appropriately. (3) cataract in the lens of the eye: this usually occurs with increasing age but in some cases may occur at a younger age. There are multiple systemic factors responsible (eg. Diabetes, increased cholesterol levels, etc) injury to the eye may also cause cataract. This should be assessed and treated appropriately by a cataract specialist. (4) retina/ vitreous problems: these occur due to a variety of reasons such as high minus numbers, diabetes, trauma, etc. These issues are best assessed and treated by a retina specialist. There are good quality surgical options available for the same. (5) optic nerve related problems: these may occur due to raised eye pressure (glaucoma), or occur in association with certain conditions related to the brain and the blood vessels. These are best assessed by a retina/ glaucoma specialist (whichever applicable). (6) neurological problems: certain problems in the brain and the central nervous system tend to cause weakening/ blurring of vision. These are best assessed by an eye specialist in concordance with a neurologist and a neurosurgeon if required. Thus, based on the category you fall under, it would be necessary to take appropriate help and treatment. Hope my suggestions helped you. Take care.

Hellolybrate-user, first of all you need to get your eyesight checked. The symptoms you have written can be caused by dry eyes, convergence weakness, or refractive errors. You can use a tear substitute and take more of green vegetables and fruits. Spend less time on screens (mobile n computer) if possible. If you have got refractive error please go for spectacles. Take care.

Hello, The causes of pain are - allergies, inflammation of eyelids, contact lens problem, corneal abrasion, blocked tear duct, dry eyes, foreign object in eye, pink eye, stye, chalazion, ectropion, entropion, cluster headache, injury, iritis, etc. So, will have to rule out any of these possibilities and as per that can give you treatment. For that share more details pertaining to your problem. Get your eyesight tested. Medication: Meantime, use Euphrasia eye drops twice daily. For backache: Maintain a right standing and sitting posture, keep your back always straight (even while sitting or standing), avoid carrying weight on back. Hold or carry weight divided equally in both the hands or shoulders (to avoid over straining on one particular hand or shoulder). Always select a chair with proper back support and hand-rest. (Excessive sitting or standing is to be avoided as well don’t carry much weight on shoulders). Apart from these, stress could be the major cause of pains! Exercise: Practice Shavasana or Corpse Pose as it looks like a dead body. If practiced correctly and with full efforts, can relax every body part, relaxing not only the body but also the mind: Spread the legs one to two feet apart, the toes are turned outwards, the heels facing each other, a comfortable distance apart. Bring the arms a little away from the body, palms turned upward. Relax the neck and allow it to turn to the side if it is more comfortable. Close the eyes and focus the attention on the body, breathing normally. Begin focusing each body part and relaxing it, then moving on. Keep the mind focused on relaxation, the breath should be normal. Relax the whole body. Management: -Sit straight with a back-rest or back-support. -Stretching or activities that place additional strain on the back are discouraged. -Sleeping with a pillow between the knees while lying on one side may increase comfort. -Lying on your back with a pillow under your knees would also relieves pain and no pillow under your head. -Some people seem to benefit from the use of ice or heat. Take care, do not use a heating pad on ‘high’ or place ice directly on the skin. Medication: Take homoeopathic medicines - Arnica 200 and Rhus Tox. 200 - take both of them thrice daily for 1 week. Also, apply Schwabe's Topi-Arnica and Topi MP Gel on the affected area in circular motions gently thrice a day. Get back to me thereafter.

DOMS, MBBS
Ophthalmologist,
Red eye could be due to very different conditions, some very simple and some very serious. If you can upload some pictures of your condition, it will help me decide on its treatment. Also let me know if it is also watering, intermittently painful, etc I think a private question can make this possible.

Most of the times its just that skin under the eyes is very delicate and it gets loosened with age and it appears as swelling. Or to rule out anything serious just get your kidney function, liver function tests and serum proteins done. Come back with reports.

Could be because of allergy allergy can be controlled easily using eye drops. But there are many eye drops and specific eye drops can only be prescribed after seeing the eye clinically as treatment depends on severity. Also dip a handkerchief in luke warm and keep over closed eyes. You will feel better.

It is a age related problem, called presbyopia. Due to aging there occurs weakness in ciliary muscle resulting in decrease in accommodation, which is required for near vision. It normally starts around 40 yrs of age. Spectacles is the best option.

Normally the number gets stabilised by the age of 18 yrs. If its progressing then it could be progressive myopia or keratoconus. Nothing much can be done to halt the increase in number in progressive myopia. However there are procedures which help on keratoconus. Kindly consult ophthalmologist.
