Thank, I will surely consult you. Please suggest me of how I should change my Indecisive mind Decreased concentration Ideas of guilt Pessimistic view about future. Do I need to take medicines to get these out of my mind. I want to think freely. It shouldn't matter to me who is thinking what. What I am doing is what makes me happy. Please advise.

Dear lybrate-user. These issues are mainly due to negative attitude rather than any specific psychological disorder. Stress also could be another factor. Once you are able to perceive the surroundings and happenings and understand self, your positive attitude begins. Attitude building therapy should suit you. If it is due to stress, stress management is the answer. Take care.

I have always been having lucid dreams, but when I talked about it to others, they said they have never experienced anything like it. Is it normal and healthy to be having lucid dreams, and being aware of one's surrounding even while asleep?

You appear to be having normal sleep pattern. The lucid dreams you describe, are dreams during the last phase of REM, or rapid eye movement sleep. You are likely to come out of sleep with the slightest of distraction during this phase. You need not worry. You don't need any intervention at present. Good luck.

I have been using eltroxin 50 mcg. My TSH level before using it was 5.3.Some months back it was 3.2.I am taking the medicines daily. My anger level is also high along with depression and memory loss. How to control it.

M.S. Counselling and Psychotherapy

Dear Lybrate User, Body and mind are closely connected. If anything goes wrong with the body then it affects the mind and vice versa. Your present thyroid condition may be affecting your mind and may be responsible for your anger and depression. Please continue with the medicines but along with the medicines, if you talk to a Counsellor, it would help you a lot. It is important for you to understand what is making you angry and sad. Then, with the help of Counselling process, you learn to control/ manage your emotions. Please take an appointment with a Counsellor at the earliest. Take care.

I, at times, forget the name of a person I very well know. Like in a party I want to introduce to my wife someone whom I know. I feel at a loss to find that the name of the person whom I want to introduce does not come to my mind. Like forgetting the name of a film actor while watching a film on the TV screen. Otherwise I have a sharp memory. I can mentally multiply or add/subtract numbers, do other calculations. Like I buy something. Before the shopkeeper calculates the amount I readily come out with the figure. Being a lawyer I can remember judgments and the ratios drawn from the judgments. But I forget the names. GENERALLY BAD IN REMEMBERING NAMES. Is it the onset of dementia like Alzheimer's?

Dear sir, this alone is not suggestive of dementia. This kind of thing can happen in younger people as well, but more commonly in the elderly. Please make sure your thyroid levels and doses are appropriate. Also get a vitamin B12 level done if not already done before. If all of these are normal, then we need to keep a watch on this to see if there is any major worsening in this. Please bear in mind that the very fact that one is paying attention to this may falsely elevate the number of instances of forgetting because incidents which would have otherwise been ignored will now be taken into account. Therefore, I said that only if there is a sudden or severe worsening in these symptoms we need to worry. otherwise there does not seem to be a problem.

I lost somebody close last year and feels very depressed and prefer to keeping myself what I do?

Hypnotherapist, DCS, BSIC, Advanced Trainee of Transactional Analysis, Advanced Skills in Counselling
Psychologist,
I lost somebody close last year and feels very depressed and prefer to keeping myself what I do?
Hello, I can understand your pain at losing one very important person in life. You probably had hopes of spending long time with her and had plans for the future and now nothing is going to happen. All these thoughts might be causing you sadness, disappointment and some anxiety and anger on the other hand. While it's important to be an important part of someone else's life, yet it's also important to know when to call it off if it's not working anymore. 1. At this age it is common for boys and girls to get attracted to each other and spent some time together. But equally common is breakups when one or both see that their needs are too different now and the other person will not fit the requirements any more. While this process is very heart breaking, but it is also important so that you can meet different people and see who is your kind of person and who will help you in the next phase of life ie. Job, marriage children. 2. By going through different relationships you will also understand yourself better and discover many hidden qualities and weaknesses in you. It's your growing edge to work through your weaknesses and sharpen your qualities. You will also discover your passion, dreams and hobbies and interests. 3. I suggest that you look at this breakup as a learning lesson and an opportunity to improve on any thing that was your mistake and assess your life choices again. What was meant to go will go. Let it go and you carry on with your journey. 4. Being flexible and independant in relationships is important. There will be times when you might not have any body's support or company. That is the time to learn to be your own friend and give yourself that love which you want from a close friend. This is healthy self love and very important for self confidence and high self esteem. 5. Indulge yourself with meeting new people, going places, discovering your passion, hobbies etc. Spend time alone with yourself to nurture the person within you.

I used to take vitamin E tablets seldom. But now I've been taking them (vit E capsules) tablets regularly from 1 week. It's really working on my skin and I found that pimples which I had before are getting healed and there are no further symptoms of any pimple till now but I'm worried if I can orally take this tablet regularly. And what if I stop taking the capsules suddenly. Will the pimples attack me again. Will I have to continue taking tablets regularly to prevent pimples. Can you please tell me the side effects and Benefits of taking vitamin E capsules orally and by applying on to the skin. thank you.

Vitamin E oil has powerful antioxidant properties that make it highly effective in treating various skin conditions including acne. You may have noticed that many skin care products such as creams and lotions include Vitamin E oil as an essential ingredient. This is because it has many wonderful benefits such as delaying the signs of aging, hydrating the skin, eliminating acne scars, etc. However, if you are considering oral Vitamin E supplements for acne and pimples, there are certain things that you should keep in mind. Firstly, think about whether you prefer a supplement that is natural or synthetic. Experts recommend trying to find a supplement that is a natural blend of tocotrienols and tocopherols as it is more easily absorbable. Vitamin E oil in the natural form is known to be twice as active as it is in the synthetic form The second thing that you need to keep in mind is the amount of the oil you take in. The recommended daily allowance or RDA is slightly more than 22 IU for adults ; however, it is commonly sold in dosages that are much higher. It is believed that taking higher doses can cause a purportedly higher risk of bleeding, particularly among patients with Vitamin K deficiency or those who take blood-thinning medications. Keep your intake below 400 IU to keep this danger away. Thus it is always good to make dietary modifications rather than taking supplements for a prolonged time period. As mentioned, a great way to get Vitamin E is to include foods that are rich in it in your diet. Foods like almonds, beans, broccoli, peanuts, hazelnuts, sweet potatoes, yams, wheat germ, raw honey and sunflower seeds are rich in this vital nutrient. Another way to use Vitamin E oil for acne prone skin is to apply it topically. As mentioned already, it is often used as an ingredient in soaps, lotions, creams and other beauty products. It works excellently as a moisturizer, and its antioxidant properties are believed to protect the skin against fine lines and wrinkles as well as sun damage. When it is topically applied on the skin with acne or pimples, Vitamin E oil works with fantastic results. However, if you already have oily skin, it may not be suitable for you.

MD - Psychiatry, M.B.B.S.

Hello Lybrate user, Schizophrenia is a complex mental health disorder with various types of symptoms. Hearing of voices, fearfulness, anger, irritable mood, reduced interest, concentration impairment, lack of focus etc are different symptoms. Hence please discuss your symptoms with your Psychiatrist, these may be part of schizophrenia disorder, or other factors like depression, medication side effects, other medical or neurological factors etc. Hence a comprehensive assessment will throw more light on the cause of the index symptom. Treatment approach will be based on the evaluation. However preliminarily I suggest psychotherapy may be able to help you. Hope this helps you. Best wishes for your health and future.

Hi, I can well understand what it feels to be lonely and longing to have companionship. But your problem is not grave that it cannot be solved. Probably you seem to give extra weightage to others and to their qualities .You just need to focus inwards now so as to be able to see the good qualities you have. Better make a list of the qualities possessed by you .For which you can take help of the people who love you truely. Put that list where you can read it very often .Keep including items in that list and have faith in your abilities .We all are distinct but no less than others. Remember ,no one can ride your back until it is bent .Take pride in your being ,keep upgrading your self and the ones who love you would stick to you.

I think that you have a strong, and may be a rigid conscience that can torment you if you do not comply with expectations. You must have picked it up from a home where values were respected and perhaps enforced. Now, while this is good and makes a very reliable person, its rigidity is its problem. You must learn to relax and accept that some things are not going to happen as they would be expected to, and that is okay. You must learn to become flexible and adapt quickly when things don't go as per expectations. We can be rigid with machines and to some extent even with animals but to be so tight about human beings is trying to put all of them into a straightjacket. You will only confine yourself and limit your growth by these restrictions.

I am suffering from stress that leads to sleeplessness. I cannot take english medicine as its been many years I have ...
You have mentioned that you are suffering from stress, which in itself can disturb your sleep. Instead of worrying too much about causes and medicines, why don’t you implement some of my suggestions, because they work effectively if implimented fully. The lack of sleep, i.e. Sleep for less than 6 hours per night, is directly linked to about 86 diseases! So let us first focus on that. In your case particularly, do not sleep during the day; don’t even lie down. Go for regular exercise (breathing through your nostrils only) at a fixed time (at about 6 am) every day, whether you sleep or not. You must develop this habit of sleeping by 10 pm latest every night and wake up at a uniform time by 6 am every morning, even if you do not get sleep. If you do not get sleep, just lie down and if you have a bed lamp (or you could get one) lie down and read something light but not exciting. Your eyes will tire and you will fall asleep. If you like you may also put on light and soft music with the sleep function on. Depending on whether you are a visual or auditory person, you may watch TV in a lying down position until you feel sleepy. Have a warm bath before going to bed (for some people a cold bath at night seems to induce sleep! If you are one of them, please do so). Place the head side of your bed in a North-South position. The room must be as dark as possible and there should be no electronic items that give off even a light LED glow. There must be ample ventilation in the room. Avoid strong odors, except lavender, on your body or in the room, or on your sheets and clothes. There should not be any live plants in your bedroom. Sleep with the lightest of clothes or without any clothing. When lying down to sleep, lie down on your left ear as much as possible. Do not sleep directly under an overhead fan. You must eat a good breakfast, a fairly light lunch, and an early dinner, which should be a very light meal. Whatever you eat in the other meals, have only a pure carbohydrate meal at night with any vegetables, and preferably before 8 pm. Do not drink much liquids after or near about dinner time. When lying down to sleep you may use the 4-7-8 breathing pattern of sleep inducement i.e. Breathe in for four counts through your nostril only, hold for 7 counts, and exhale with a whoosh sound, through your mouth only, for 8 counts. Repeat this four times in the morning and just before you sleep at night. If you know Emotional Freedom Technique or EFT (check this out either on YouTube or Google), then please practice this too for sleep induction. Self-hypnosis and slow relaxation techniques, at night will be tremendously useful. Acupuncture or acupressure will both be very useful too. Pray last thing at night before you sleep.

Sir I have recent stammering problem what can I do fr it to cure. What is its treatment?

MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Chennai
Stammering is typically recognised by a tense struggle to get words out. This makes it different from the normal non-fluency we all experience which includes hesitations and repetitions. Commonly it involves repeating or prolonging sounds or words, or getting stuck without any sound (silent blocking). Sometimes people put in extra sounds or words. Often people lose eye contact. Some people who stammer talk their way round difficult words so that you may not realise they stammer at all. This avoidance of words, and avoidance of speaking in some or many situations, is an important aspect of stammering. Stammering varies tremendously from person to person and is highly variable for the person who stammers who may be fluent one minute and struggling to speak the next. Get an mri brain and eeg with a neurologist evaluation.

The person who smokes, how can he prevent his lungs from tar. Means how can we reduce the level of tar from the lungs of a smoker?

MBBS, MD - Psychiatry, MBA (Healthcare)
Psychiatrist, Davanagere
1. Don’t Smoke This one is a no-brainer, the detrimental effect of cigarette smoke on the lungs has been known and documented for over a hundred years… yet some people continue to do it. Smoking deposits harmful and obstructive tar in the lungs, not to mention a phone-book sized list of chemicals. The chemicals in cigarette smoke, like carbon monoxide, inhibit mechanical lung function and contribute to the development of big, big problems like emphysema and cancer. Smoking is bad for your health and it’s bad for everyone around you. There’s no need to rehash what we all know, let’s just shut the book on this one- don’t smoke! 2. Perform Lung Cleansing Exercises Did you know breathing exercises can strengthen your lungs and help clear toxins? Just as bicep curls will strengthen your arms, deep breathing exercises will strengthen your lungs and clear your airways. Deep breathing provides a secondary benefit in that they deliver more nourishing oxygen to your body. Shallow breathing is often a product of weak lung function or sedentary habits. It’s a bad habit and if you’re guilty, stop! Once or twice a day, find a quiet place and perform the deep breathing exercises that tap into the full capacity of your lungs! 3. Eat Lung Cleansing Foods Did you know pistachios, plantain leaf, and cayenne pepper are all foods that promote healthy lung function? Pistachios contain gamma-tocopherol, a type of vitamin E that is believed to reduce risk of lung cancer. Plantain leaf, popular in Latin American cuisine, is useful suppressing mucous and may help respiratory problems that involve congestion. Cayenne peppers are potent foods whose benefits are equal to their heat. Cayenne has been shown to relieve irritation which is great news when you’re suffering from coughs and sore throats. 4. Reduce Your Indoor Air Pollution Exposure Indoor environments can be contaminated with over 1,000 species of mold and mildew. Pet dander is a common indoor pollutant that is notorious for antagonizing allergies. Synthetic, chemical-based cleaning products are toxic substances with toxic fumes, just check the warning label! (and make your own natural alternatives instead). Upholstery, carpet, paint, and building materials are also all common sources of indoor pollution. The indoor air pollution problem is compounded by the fact that home construction has become more airtight in the last 30 years which traps pollutants inside. A drafty house may not seem the most efficient when the electricity bill arrives but there is something to be said about the constant airflow. Aside from ridding your home of the sources of pollution, air exchange systems and indoor air purification systems are good proactive approaches to purifying the air in your home. 5. Make a Castor Oil Pack for Lung Cleansing Castor oil packs are easy to make at home and work great for drawing toxins out of the body! Castor oil has long been appreciated as a general health tonic and is believed to stimulate lymphatic circulation and waste elimination. Castor oil packs are placed on the chest, perhaps similar to vapor rubs, and are thought to break up congestion and toxins. Easy, effective, and inexpensive, try it! 6. Take Lung Cleansing Herbs Plants like oregano, orange peel, elecampane, eucalyptus, peppermint, lungwort, osha root, chaparral, and lobelia have been used for hundreds of years, if not longer, as natural remedies for respiratory conditions. Individual herbal tinctures and extracts are available, or, rather than purchasing and taking each separately, There are natural lung cleansing supplement that contains organic and wildcrafted herbs known to support respiratory ailments, help with normal lung functions, and cleanse your lungs of harmful agents.

As you rightly said your interpersonal skills may be poor because of devoting too much time in your studies. But, it is no big deal. I think you are nearing completion of the studies you are pursuing now. No need to worry about anything except your studies. Concentrae at successful completion of your studies. Social and interpersonal skills can be developed afterwards.
