Hello since you have written colitis, I assume you have been diagnosed. However with this condition its important to get a specific diet plan to help the lining of your intestines heal. Elimination of certain food groups to reduce inflammation along with homoeopathic constitutional remedies works well. An advice on stress management will be an important part of managing colitis.

Hello, My mother is 45 years old, Recently she was diagnosed with sinus tachycardia last week. She is at rest now. For the last 4-5 days she is suffering from mild fever, watery stool frequently (6-7 times a day). She is having ulcerative colitis and she withdrew from intaking steroids 5-6 days back. Is it related somehow?

Hi, I appreciate seeking help for your mother. Possibly an adrenal insufficiency and its associated symptoms, similar to the ones described in your question above, needs to be ruled out in your mother's case. Although steroids may not be the real cause that could have precipitated a sinus tachycardia, its good to have discontinued steroids for the time being. Its advisable that she be monitored closely now, and the case clinically examined by both an experienced endocrinologist, as well as a gastro-enterologist for further medical traction as deems appropriate. As regards her ulcerative colitis, try streamline her diet which should mostly comprise of softly cooked or steamed vegetables with less of oil, ghee, spices et al. The more bland the diet is, easily digestible will it be and the better it will be for your health/ recovery. Also, do consume well ripened fruits especially papaya & banana. Buttermilk and coconut water too are immensely valuable in this condition. Please note that banana and coconut water as advised above, be best avoided if her potassium levels are already high. Take plenty of water daily, and ensure that you get enough of bed rest, avoiding stress/ strain/ anxieties. Also, take care not to strain while passing stools. A light abdominal massage on a regular basis also helps. Hope this helps her. Do take care and all the very best.

Dear Lybrate User, *Buttermilk is a wonder remedy when it comes to treating indigestion and gas. It is easier to digest than milk and contains more lactic acid. Buttermilk is already recommended to keep yourself cool in harsh summers and its digestive benefits just give you another reason to drink up a glass of buttermilk *You may run away from the smell of garlic that might linger in your mouth but this little ingredient has phenomenal properties to stimulate your gastric system helping you get relief from gas and ingestion problems. The pungent heating quality of garlic is what makes it work so efficiently. Consume garlic in a soup where the hot water helps it to get absorbed by your digestive system faster. Or boil ground garlic in water for few minutes and add some black pepper and cumin seeds. Strain this mixture and let it cool. Drinking this two or three times a day will get you fruitful results.
