I have thyroid problem and I take thyrox 25 tablets. Can I add becadexamine multivitamin and evion 600 vitamin E capsules in my diet. And can all these capsules can be taken in morning.

Mr. lybrate-user, thanks for the query. If you have hypothyroidism then first thing is to effectively control it, by maintaining TSH around 3 to 4 mU/L. Once that is achieved then you can add other vitamins if you want. I do not know why are adding those. Is there any specific reason or for no specific reason? Thanks.

I am 74 year old woman. Diabetes and B P well under control due to medication. Almost daily morning When I try to get out of my bed/cot, I feel that my leg muscles are stiffened and I have to wait for the muscles (especially calf) to get relaxed. What is the cure? I prefer to avoid interaction over phone. I prefer email.

Foods That Can Be Used To Reduce Blood Sugar Level

High blood sugar occurs when the insulin in the body fails to metabolize the sugar from the food, which raises the amount of glucose in your blood. It is a metabolic disorder which can be managed effectively with the help of lifestyle modifications such as exercise and food. This article is going to focus on the foods that you can eat to lower your blood sugar levels.

Here are 9 foods that you can use to reduce blood sugar levels:

Cinnamon: cinnamon is a herb which is very effective in getting your blood sugar down to manageable levels. You can simply sprinkle cinnamon on your food before eating it.

Fenugreek (methi): fenugreek is a common spice which is used in almost all indian cuisines. It has a number of health benefits, one of which is reducing blood sugar levels. Soaking fenugreek in water and then drinking it the next day is a very effective remedy in combating sugar problems.

Garlic: not just for sending away the vampires, it is also very effective in blood sugar control. Extracts of garlic have been shown to increase insulin in the body which is required to metabolize the sugar in the body.

Heart healthy fats: heart healthy fat based foods such as nuts and seeds are good for increasing the good cholesterol levels (hdl) in the body. Avocadoes contain nutrients which lower the risks of various diseases such as diabetes. In a nutshell, these fats make the cells of the body less resistant to insulin.

Blueberries: blueberries contain anthocyanin (water soluble pigments) which is very good for your health. They also contain fiber in large amounts which make you feel fuller faster. This fruit has also been shown to improve insulin sensitivity in the body.

Vinegar: vinegar is an age old remedy to control blood sugar levels; it contains acetic acid which causes a reduction in certain harmful enzymes in the stomach. Vinegar is also known to prevent blood sugar spikes when consumed with food.

Complex carbohydrates: complex carbohydrates raise your blood sugar but not like its cousin, simple carbohydrates. Simple carbohydrates cause an immediate spike in your blood sugar levels where as complex carbs provide a steady stream of energy. So drop that packet of refined flour and get that whole wheat variant.

Cherries: cherries, especially tart cherries and dark sweet cherries, are full of anthrocyanins. Insulin resistance prevents insulin from working properly to control blood sugar in normal ranges. Eating a diet high in anthrocyanins can mean improved use of insulin and lower blood sugars.

Nuts: people who eat nuts regularly have lower rates of heart disease than people who don't eat them.

Increase thirst, increased frequency of urination are some initial symptoms of diabetes but it can vary from being completely asymptomatic to non specific symptoms like weakness, loss of weight, tingling in feet, dry mouth, blurry vision, burning during urination. You need to follow a healthy lifestyle to prevent such metabolic diseases. Type 1 usually occurs at younger age due to insulin deficiency and treated with insulin injections. It can't be cured completely but you can keep it controlled by taking these precautions.

Which of the oils is best and safety for diabetic patients. Kindly describe the reasons about it.
Blend of Desi ghee and mustard oil or if you can afford olive oil. There is ratio of essential fatty acids which keeps you healthy. There are two important fatty acids omega3 and omega 6 and ideal ratio of them 1: 4. If you take refind oils this ratio goes upto 1: 70 or less. Which produces oxidative stess in body and give rise to heart problem. By consuming desi ghee and mustard oil but in less amount this ratio comes 1: 8 which is close to ideal ratio.

Mr. lybrate-user, Ideally fasting should be closer to 100 mg or just below, PP 150 to 160 mg & HbA1c%<6.8, then it is called as good control. To achieve that one has to take appropriate drugs, strict diet & exercise regularly for about 1 hour a day. Brisk walking is one of the better exercise. Thanks.

Mr. Lybrate-user, it is essential to get your diabetes under strict control, with fasting sugar level around 100 mg, pp150 to 160 mg & hba1c%<6.8. Father having diabetes will not affect the baby in mother's womb. But in later life chances of children getting diabetes (t2) are much higher, particularly if healthy lifestyle is not adapted. As regards sex life, diabetes can affect erectile function, so it is absolutely essential to achieve strict blood glucose control. Thanks.

The dosage you are taking is ok, there is no reason to reduce the dose now. After 6 weeks get the test done again and levels of tsh are similar you may reduce to 75 mcg. Per day. Suddenly reducing the dosage can again increase tsh levels due inadequate amount of thyroxine.
