So long as your blood sugar levels are under control, your risk of heart attack are due to other factors like smoke and pollution are more, because you must be eating the right food & doing exercises due to dm. Take care and get checked for heart routinely.

You have not mentioned about dosage of medications. You should get Blood sugar done 1. Fasting, 2. 1 1/2 hours after a principal meal and also 3. Before dinner Another test done in good laboratories is HbA1c. If blood sugar is more than 150 or so and HbA1c more than 7. and you are regular about routine you must see your physician to find cause of increase like infection etc. or you may require rescheduling of dosage or additional medication and follow up. Your doctor will do it.

Take medicine to maintain thyroid test in normal range. Ask a doctor for required dose. Keep repeat testing every three months or so. Reduce fat and sugar consumption. Eat more vegetables and fruits. Eat 200 gms of salad half hour before every main meal. Eat less chapaties and rice and more of dal, soya badi. With this your weight will reduce. It will be better if remain in constant touch.

Hi. I am on Eltroxin 25 mg since 6 months. My TSH now is 5.90. Am I supposed to change my medication?

MBBS, CCEBDM, Diploma in Diabetology

Hi. I am on Eltroxin 25 mg since 6 months. My TSH now is 5.90. Am I supposed to change my medication?
Mr. Lybrate-user, when on treatment tsh levels should be brought down to 3 to 4 milli units / l for complete relief from all symptoms. At 5.90 milli units/l many symptoms may be still remain. It is necessary to increase the dose by bout 12.5 mcg per day. Then check tsh after 6 weeks to see if that has been beneficial. Thanks.

Hello, having diabetes mellitus need not affect using of hair dye. Some persons may have allergy to a hair dye, if that happens then one has to stop. Allergy can cause a lot of different symptoms. So if you are allergic to it do not use.

My mother is 35 and having sugar. What she must do to be in control and have a healthy life. Some times she sleeps more. Is thus because of sugar? Please give any suggestions.

General Physician,
My mother is 35 and having sugar. What she must do to be in control and have a healthy life. Some times she sleeps mo...
Excess sleep can be from sugar not controlled well. Diabetes, often referred to by doctors as diabetes mellitus, describes a group of metabolic diseases in which the person has high blood glucose (blood sugar), either because insulin production is inadequate, or because the body's cells do not respond properly to insulin, or both. It is a difficult task to control blood sugar in the desired normal range. Whatever we eat is metabolised to sugar in the body to provide energy for our daily activities. For the absolute control, one has to monitor his / her blood sugar at regular intervals (Self-Monitoring of Blood glucose – SMBG). Though difficult, this can be done by a glucometer and keep a record. Get an idea of Fasting sugar (FBS) and 2 hours after food (PPBS), & HbA1C (inform me) and check before dinner and after every major food. The basic idea is to reduce the food intake to 1/3 of what you take now. The dictum of sugar control is diet, exercise, diet + medicine and at later stage medicine+ Insulin will be needed. There are different diet plans of varying calories for each person depending on his activity & life style. For diabetes, hypertension (high BP) and many long-term illness control there is the need for regular advice and follow up. Just one time consultation or advice is not enough to guide a diabetic in scientifically & medically correct manner. For giving you regular follow up you ask me with all details like your daily eating pattern and medicines you take. I assure you a proper guidance... if you keep in touch personally.
