I am 29 years old. Today morning I checked my sugar just after waking up and my blood sugar showed 375! I am shocked. I am little over weight and currently from the past few months I am going through office tensions and work. I do not have the urination problem but I am getting irritated in a short while. I am also getting a slight pain near to my liver. The last time I checked was 2 months ago and it was 140. Yesterday I had an unusual diet for dinner at a party which included white rice and other junk food. Please advice. I am not find of sweets and avoid all sorts of chocolates and sugar. The only source of sugar is tea which I consume twice a day. My diet basically includes margarine and white bread for breakfast, 4 chapatis for lunch and generally 3 chapatis for dinner or sometimes white rice. In the evening I tend to have 4 slices of bread with amul lite. Please help. Is it because of the stress and the bad dinner last night or is my sugar gone for a toss. Or, should I test again in a couple of days?

Hello, It is essential for you to start antidiabetes treatment with appropriate drugs rightaway. Otherwise the condition can become worse and may lead to some of the long term complications of diabetes. Hence, please initiate immediate treatment. Plus follow a healthy diet and regular exercise schedule. Ideal body weight should be (height in Cms - 100 + IBW). All your intake should be based on IBW and extent of daily physical activity. All the best.

I am 48 years old. I am facing a problem of diabetes since 1 year. Please advise me about my diet.
For diabetes follow a diet low in carbohydrate, low in fat and high in fibre. Avoid bakery products. Avoid too much rice and potato. Avoid fried stuff. Avoid chocolate, cakes, ice cream, soft drinks and fruit juices. Eat lots of vegetables. Walk for at least 30 minutes a day for 5 days in a week. Medicine and insulin will work better if you follow diet and exercise.

Mr. Lybrate-user ji. Thanx for the question. This is a good news for you because you are taking good and perfect medicine. Continue it these will kept your blood sugar under control and as well as you are doing walk or following small frequent meal. This is also good for a diabetic patient. Now you are talking about improve health. So increase your protein intake 40 gm par day because in diabetes patients protein goes down thats why patient look leen. Than add panner or panner chilla with minimum oil. 1 whole egg. Soyabeen chaat 1 bowl. Peanuts. Bhunna or boiled channa. 4 almonds and 1 walnut. 2 piece of chicken or fish and mutton but only in tanduri form, grill form, steam form.

In Type I Diabetes Cetapin will not help. Instead start other tablet or additional ultra long acting insulin.

Mr, if one has diabetes mellitus, then treatment with appropriate drugs is necessary for life time. There is no way to control raised blood sugar with out taking any anti - diabetes drugs. Life style changes are required to support the drug treatment. Thanks.

My blood sugar levels after food started climbing up recently during the past two months 140, 158, 170. Suggest me a diet to reduce this ? I am from Kerala south India and the traditional meal is rice. Is it time to see a physician ?

MBBS
General Physician, Guwahati
Your post prandial sugar raised to a high level, you should check HbA1c levels and can start with Tab. METFORMIN 500MG once a day in between breakfast. For diet you take rice in less amount and substitue with Roti and other vegitables also. Check the difference in 2 weeks by doing Fasting and PPBS and consult again.
