Hi Your son suffering from asthma and the best way of getting relief is to provide him better medicine of holistic approach. My suggestion is that he should take herbal products which are chemical and steroid free. If he would continue for 3 to 4 months he would be fully cured. Feel free to contact me for better health.

M.D.( Pediatrics), DCH
Pediatrician,
I will wait for a month after giving Varicella vaccine. It is a live vaccine and causes attenuated infection in recipient. And all viral infections are known to hamper immuno genesity for about 4 weeks. But if it is urgent and must to give H1N1 it should be treating pediatrician's discrimination.

Hi, the chance of having a normal pregnancy without any hypertension is still more than having hypertension again. But we have to keep a close eye on the BP with regular monitoring of the BP and urine examination mainly after 5 months of pregnancy. Also there is evidence that Aspiring tablets taken 75 mg once daily from third month of pregnancy helps in preventing the development of hypertension. Calcium supplementation atleast 1.5 to 2g per day in divided doses reduces the chance of hypertension. Hope this is useful.

Tuberculosis - 114 Countries Join Hands To Eradicate It By 2030!

Tuberculosis - 114 Countries Join Hands To Eradicate It By 2030!

In an effort to eradicate Tuberculosis (TB) by 2030, a total of 114 countries have joined hands to take action against TB. This collaboration was announced at the first WHO global ministerial conference in Moscow.

It has also been observed that since the year 2000, approximately 53 million lives were saved and the overall mortality rate has been reduced by 37 percent for TB. Despite the past efforts to control the spread of this deadly disease and is known to take lives more than any other contagious disease.

How should prevent yourself from getting affected?

  1. Get your vaccination on time

  2. Get yourself tested for TB regularly

  3. Eat a healthy and balanced diet

  4. Maintain hygiene

  5. Spend time in fresh air

  6. Try and limit your exposure to someone suffering from TB

My daughter is 3.5 years old and is on feeding. My wife also wants to leave but my daughter doesn't leave pls help me to leave her feeding as all night she keeps on feeding and doesn't eat anything in evening. Pls help on the same at urgent basis.

MD - Paediatrics, Diploma in Child Health (DCH)
Pediatrician, Mumbai
The feeding habit is not an easy one to get rid of. Because it has been formed from almost the first day the child is born. And the child has got very used to (almost addicted to) the feeding. As the child grows older, the feeding does not provide much nutrition or fill the stomach, but it gives them a sense of security and safety and bonding with mother. And from the child's point of view, there is nothing wrong in feeding. She has no problem. Problem is always from parents side. Unfortunately, there is no easy method for stopping feeding at this age. In very small babies, if the mother applies something bitter to her breasts, the child might reject it. Older children do not stop even with such things. There are usually only two choices 1) just stop, and let the baby cry. The baby will cry for a day or two, and then, as she realizes that her crying is of no use, and that no one is going to pamper her, she herself lets go and stops. 2) separate the child and the mother for a few days. Let the child go to the grandmother's or aunt's house. This breaks the attachment with the mother. When the child comes back, she will still look for breast feeding, but the intensity of her craving will be much less, for she has learnt to take care of herself without this feeding, and it will be easy to get rid of the feeding.

How To Deal With Child's Addiction To Sweets?

MD - Paediatrics, DNB (Pediatrics)
Pediatrician, Rourkela
How To Deal With Child's Addiction To Sweets?

If your child has become increasingly addicted to sweets and other sugary items, this addiction can lead to certain behavioral problems (like mood swings, irritability, anger, etc) in children. Moreover, a high sugar intake can lead to your child falling prey to serious diseases and conditions, including diabetes, obesity and cardiovascular diseases.

Here's what you can do to break your child's indulgent habits and wean him from ill-health causing culprits like cakes, ice creams, candies, chocolates and rich and creamy desserts etc.

1. Practice what you preach -
In order to develop healthy eating habits in your child, it is imperative for you as a parent to lead by example. When it comes to weaning your child from sugary foods and sweets, you yourself should limit your intake. So, if you tell your child to avoid sweets but love sweets yourself, you'd be setting a bad example by eating them yourself and not letting your child have them. The best thing to do is to be a role model to your child as children learn everything from their parents.

2. Curb consumption of sugar by deferring intake to a later date -
Instead of depriving your child completely, it would prove to be more useful to tell them that they could have sweets on some other day. This is because if you deny him his indulgence, your child would invariably go on an eating spree the moment an opportunity arises. A study on a group of restrained eaters and non-diet individuals revealed that restrained eaters were found to consume more food than the non-dieting individuals. Not knowing when they could have their favourite foods again, they went on an eating spree.
Make frequent yet small offerings of sweets while explaining to him the importance of moderation and why he/she shouldn't overindulge but space out sugar intake.

3. Try the 90/10 rule -
Teaching older children the 90/10 principle is another sure-shot way of breaking your child?'s addiction to sweets. The rule calls for 90% of the diet to be made up of healthy food with the remaining 10% being devoted to foods your child wants to indulge in such as junk food, sweets or foods with high sugar content. The total calorie intake that arises from consumption of about 10% or 1-2 fun foods is only about 100-200 calories everyday.

4. Present your child with healthy alternatives to sugary items -
The next time your child wants to indulge in his sugar craving, instead of giving a processed sugary food, give healthier sweet foods like dates, honey or a fresh sweet fruit.

Mild fever is the good effect of vaccine and passing stool can be infection. To control it, if you are giving bottle feed you have to stop and give breastmilk and other feed if you give at all, feed with a spoon.

Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize. After every bath, spread a gentle, hypoallergenic baby lotion or oil (Virgin coconut oil or Olive oil) onto your baby's slightly damp skin. Reapply every 12 hours, even on days you skip the bath. If the air in your home is dry, use a cool mist humidifier in your child's room. If your child's skin is very sensitive, don't dress him in clothing that's tight or rough. Also keep in mind that some fabrics, such as wool, can be especially irritating to dry skin.
