What is the use of dolo how can we use and at what dosage should we use for a child of 10yrsold.

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Tumkur
Dolo is nothing but paracetamol used to bring down temperature. Dose is 10 to 15 mg per kg body weight. For a 10 year old child you can give in the tablet form.

All baby soaps are equal you can try them one by one if problem occurs. Care should be taken of eyes, wash the baby thoroughly so soap doesn't remain on body.

My baby is 2 months old initial diagnosis results say he has neonatal hepatitis. What is its cure and how much time will it take for the baby to recover.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Neonatal hepatitis is an inflammation of the liver that occurs in early infancy, usually one to two months after birth. About 20 per cent of infants who develop neonatal hepatitis were infected with a virus causing inflammation of the liver either before birth through their mother, or shortly after birth. Viruses which can cause neonatal hepatitis in infants include cytomegalovirus, rubella (measles), and hepatitis A, B and C. In the remaining 80 per cent of affected infants, no specific cause can be identified, but many experts suspect a virus is to blame. There is no specific treatment for neonatal hepatitis. Vitamin supplements are usually prescribed and many infants are given medications which improve bile flow. Formulas containing fats more easily digested by the body are also given. It will take 2 months to cure fully

I have 6 month baby, I used diaper every night for him, someone says by using it children lost their sense is it true?

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), MBBS
Pediatrician, Delhi
No its not true. Diapers can cause diaper dermatitis that too when improper care takes place. Otherwise diapers are not a problem at all.

I have a female child about 16 month she has bow legs is it curable by physiotherapy or by any surgery.

DNB Paediatrics, DCH, MBBS
Pediatrician, Delhi
Hello lybrate-user, bow legs is usually a sign of rickets in children that is correctable with adequate calcium supplements along with vit d intake. I would suggest that you consult a pediatrician for the same so they can look for other signs of rickets too to start her treatment with vit d and calcium. In the meanwhile you could let her sun bathe, in the morning hours preferably and give her egg, fish, milk and other dairy products to provide her with adequate dietary sources to replenish her with good nutrients.

My nephew is 8 months old (born on 10th August, 2017). Till date he had undergone four blood transfusion since his birth. haemoglobin comes down every 30-40th day to 7-9 level. We stay at Ayodhya (Uttar Pradesh) where no treatment is available for this disease. Doctors has suggested that he should be undergoing blood transfusion throughout his life for survival and he can survive maximum 25 years like this. Please find the attached report of cough. I would be really thankful to you if you can examine his report and help us in any possible way to treat his disease, I would appreciate your confirmation. Father and mother have minor Thalassemia Infant name as in prescription- Baby of Archita (Thalassemia major) Thank You,

MBBS MD DCH, Dch
Pediatrician, Muzaffarpur
This is unfortunate that your child is suffering from thalassamia Major. This is autosomal recessive genetic disease. There are following advice for child. 1 please get his Hb level estimation every 3 to 4 weeks. The idea is maitain Hb above 9 to 10 gm%. When Hb level goes down which is likely every 3 to 4 weels then packed cell transfusion need to be given. Simultaneously your child shall need iron cheleating agent to prevent iron overload. This modality of treatment is to continue till child is alive. 2 Another option is to go for bone marrow transplantation which if successful shall cure the disease. The problem with BMT is selection of donor and huge expense in a select tertiary care center. 3 genetic couselling meaning thereby if the parents are interested for another child prenatal screening in ist trimester (first 3 months of pregnancy) to rule out same genetic disorder in your next baby. If report is abnormal you can go termination of pregnancy. Regards

Hello 'Dad' Your Health Affects Your Baby's Well-being Too

We all are aware of the fact that it's not just mothers- to- be who need to make sacrifices during pregnancy, infact it's a excellent idea for fathers to give up smoking and drinking too. Many people are aware of the fact that smoking during pregnancy can be harmful for an unborn baby, so if either you or your partner is a smoker, you should actually give up now. And giving up smoking and cutting down on alcohol now will eventually lead to a healthier and fitter you, so that when you've got a little baby around, you will be in the best of your health.

Passive smoking is harmful:
Passive smoking near your partner is dangerous as when she breathes in your cigarette smoke, your baby is taking in harmful carbon monoxide, nicotine and maybe other harmful chemical substances. Nicotine may lead to constriction of the blood vessels and might affect the uterine and placenta blood flow, might even increase blood pressure and heart rate of you and your baby.

One of the best moves you and your partner can practice is to keep your baby's surrounding and environment smoke free, both for now and as well as after the birth too. If you and your pregnant partner or other people in your home indulge in smoking, it can cause serious harm to your unborn baby.

Drugs and Alcohol is a Big No:
Taking other drugs or drinking alcohol can surely get in the way of you being the parent you always wanted to be. It can also affect your ability to take care for your child. This is a big issue with newborns, who wake up often during the night for feeding and changing. Parents indulging in the use of drugs and alcohol, this unhealthy practice may lead to the risk factor for SUDI if the children sleep in the same place as the parent. For many men, alcohol and other drugs can fuel heated arguments that might lead to violence and aggression. This can have serious consequences for the health and wellbeing of the mother and child.

Your habits affect your kids:
In a recent research the rate of lymphoma, brain tumours and leukaemia were up to 80% higher in children under the age of 5 when fathers had smoked prior to conception, even though the mothers were non smokers all the way. Moreover the rate of childhood cancer was seen highest when fathers smoked more cigarettes every day, or had been smoking for a longer time or started smoking before the age of 20.

It's not just your partner who requires staying healthy before, during and after pregnancy, you all fathers need it too. A healthy diet can surely help with conception, but it's always important to practice and carry on eating a well-balanced variety of nutritious foods. This will lead to the encouragement of your partner to do the same and help her enjoy a healthy pregnancy as well.
