1. Dust allergy could be because of so many agents (it could be due to pollen, mite, feathers, dander, mold, droppings of birds, pet hair/feather/fur cockroach etc) 2. I advise you to do an allergy test after consulting an allergy specialist/immunologist to find out the agent which is causing dust allergy. 3. Follow the advice and treatment given by allergy specialist/immunologist. Treatment 1. Anti histamine like levo cetrizine 1 tablet at bed time 2. Decongestant steroidal nasal dropspray like rhino cort nasal spray one spray to each nostril three times daily, 3. Remove wall to wall carpet in bed room, 4. Keep pets out of bed room/house 5. Minimise house hold humidity 6. Keep home clean, ensure good ventilation, vacum cleaning of carpet, furniture, drapperies, wash bed linen frequently in hot water, instal a/c, 7. Dear physiotherapist! I'm a asthma patient. kindly explain me the physical methods to get rid of wheezing instantly when it occurs. What are the physical ways of treating asthma other than medication?

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
Montemac L is a controlled medicine for allergic asthma. If you are able to remain symptom free by using it daily, I would suggest you to continue it for at least 3 months continuously. I would suggest you to consult an Allergist-Immunologist who will suggest you allergy testing. This will help you identify substances causing symptoms to you as well as precautions regarding how to avoid them. Also, an Allergist may suggest you specific allergen immunotherapy depending upon the results of allergy testing, which may improve your allergy symptoms. Please try to avoid exposure to smoke, dusts and air pollution as much as possible. Also please do not smoke if you are a smoker. A nutritive diet rich in vitamins & minerals including anti-oxidants is very important to support immune system. I would also suggest you regular breathing exercises which help you in a long run.

General Physician,
ASTHMA-CONTROL A MUST
**************************************
Most uncontrolled asthmatics think they are controlled
Two-thirds of patients with uncontrolled asthma think their disease is well under control.
Asthmatics on proper medicines can not only lead a normal life but also reduce their future complications. Drugs include those medicines that keep the disease at bay as well as those that are used when a flare-up occurs. Uncontrolled asthmatics will invariably end up with right heart complications due to persistent lack of oxygenation in the blood.

Most asthmatics fail to perceive their level of disease control and with an uncontrolled state they often feel that their asthma is under control.

A study published in the Annals of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, examined 1,048 subjects with inadequate asthma control. When asked how they would rate their asthma control over the past 14 days, nearly 69 percent considered themselves to be completely or well controlled. Failure to perceive inadequate asthma control was more likely to be found in patients between the ages of 41 and 50 years.

In severe asthma, low blood oxygen levels might impair a person's ability to assess their own breathing difficulty.

Another reason is that the notion of asthma control seems poorly understood by asthmatic patients. Also, mild to moderate asthma limits the activities of a person and they over a period of time take that as their normal limits.

PGDCC, MD(Chest), PG Dip.Clin.Cardiology

Dear lybrate-user, to know the cause of cough and its duration are very important before the treatment. It is known by detailed questioning and some investigations especially if cough is more than 2 weeks old. For more than 2 weeks old cough eosinophilia, allergy, chest or sinus infections, silent pneumonia tb are also to be ruled out. Physical examination is of paramount importance.
