Hello sorry to hear this. It seems you have a fracture in the c1 and some degenerative changes because of that. The most common type of c1 fracture is the jefferson's fracture. Most of these types of fractures can be managed without surgery. There are a few rare subtypes and associated injuries which may necessitate a surgery. Will you please upload me the ct, mri reports so that I can determine the exact type of your injury and then will be able to tell you if you need any surgery or it can be managed without surgery. Is it correct to do icing in place of injury at joint where there is swelling? What can be the disadvantage of it?

Dear Mr Avijit, Icing has since long been used to decrease swelling or oedema, but there is stipulated duration to its use for therapeutic purposes, if your swelling has developed recently (24 to48 hrs) it may be recommended, but there is scanty evidence in medical literature that a long standing case of odema or swelling around the joint may respond to icing or cryotherapy, I suggest you to consult your Physio or Doc in your case for further clarification

Hi Piyush, Gentle massage over the affected part with lukewarm herbal Pain relieving oil for 20 minutes followed by hot fomentation. it will relax the muscles and the veins of ur affected part improving the blood supply to the organ and giving strength to it. Please avoid over-use of the part affected i.e. lifting weight - pushing or pulling heavy objects. Give proper rest to the part - let it heal with the time. This will greatly help. Dear lybrate-user, its not only the pain relief ointment but try with diclofenac ointment with heat fermentation. If it will not work you need inferential and ultrasonic therapy for proper treatment.

My dad recently had a muscle pull which lead to muscle tear and internal bleeding occurred which caused red patched on his skin. He is 48 years old he got this injury while he was pushing innova. It was critical before but curing slowly red patches are going but it pains alot. Any advice aur suggestion for fast treatment or better advice that can be followed up?

Requires detail examination and investigation investigations suggested: hb, tlc, dlc, esr, blood sugar fasting & pp, uric acid vit d anyway you may try- sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick mattress are harmful do hot fomantation. Paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. It may have to be further investigated. Do not ignore it. Let it not become beginning of a bigger problem. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. If it does not give relief in 4-5days, inform.

Extension Exercises x 15 times x twice daily - lying on tummy, take left arm up for 3 seconds, then bring it down, right arm up for 3 seconds, bring down. Bring right leg up, hold for 3 seconds, bring it down. Then right leg up and hold for 3 seconds and bring it down. Repeat twice a day- 10 times

Before proper treatment for back pain is initiated which includes various stages in panchakarma procedure of ayurveda, low back pain may be addressed with the following to some extent: oleation, sweating at home. You may give ghee and hingwastak powder while taking meals and drink warm water, mildly purgate once or twice a week with tarunikusumakar chooran, take warm tub bath. Sitting with immersed back in warm/ hit water tub for few minutes. Massage lightly with herbal oils to strengthen muscles and alleviating pain. Oils such as mahanarayan oil is useful. Moreover specific report may be sent for specific guidelines and advise.

Neck advice hot fomentation x twice daily. Neck exercises. Neck stretching. Postural correction. Shoulder shrugs. Core strengthening exercises. Take frequent breaks at work use cervical pillow. Use back support. Self massage the back of neck.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Actually pain at calf/leg region can be due to many reasons, commonly it is muscular in nature but it can also be due to tendons, nerves, blood vessels etc. My advise to you for initial 2-3 weeks will be: - ice packs application intensively with elevation of your limbs at night - take a short course of anti-inflammatory medication as per your body's suitability - stop your physical activity till pain completely subsides - intensive physical therapy, training and proper muscle conditioning once pain has subsided - slow resumption of physical activities with proper pre activity warm up and stretching of muscles and short increments in duration of physical activity each day as per pain tolerance. - we will get some blood tests for you - serum vitamin d and serum potassium levels, esr and crp once you have all these reports then you can contact me as I can advise you for proper supplementation do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.
