Hello dear. 1. Smoke irritates cornea (most sensitive part of eye. This happens with every one. You need not to worry. 2. It is always advisable to avoid exposure of eyes to smoke. Always leave the place where smoke is 3. Use goggles 4. Wash your eyes with cold water 5. You can use lubricating eyedrop. These will soothen your eyes.

The watering of eyes is due to staining on eyes .While watching TV for long intervals continuously, eyes get exhausted. While watching TV make sure that the lightening in room is proper and you are at least at a distance of 10 Feet from TV to reduce and negate the effects. You can also reduce the intensity of the TV by attaching a filter or by getting an eye-friendly screen. Above all, one must try to reduce the amount of TV usage or take frequent breaks. Retinitis Pigmentosa: What You Should Know About It?

Retinitis Pigmentosa: What You Should Know About It?

Are you losing your sight day by day? Does it make difficult to see you at night? Is this the onset of Blindness? Get to know about Retinitis Pigmentosa with these tips.

What actually is Retinitis Pigmentosa?
Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP) refers to a group of diseases, which causes a slow, but progressive vision loss. It is a genetic disorder that affects the ability to respond to light. This inherited disease causes a slow loss of vision, beginning with decreased night vision and loss of peripheral (side) vision and eventually results in blindness.

Causes: Retinitis pigmentosa is often hereditary (runs in families). If you or your partner has retinitis pigmentosa, there may be up to a 50 percent chance that you will pass it on to your children. Ask an ophthalmologist about genetic counseling if you are planning to have children.

Symptoms

  1. Slow loss of vision
  2. Beginning of decreased night vision
  3. Loss of peripheral vision
  4. Difficulty in identifying colours

Diagnosis: If you have poor night vision or a loss of side vision or if there is a history of retinitis pigmentosa in your family, your ophthalmologist will conduct a comprehensive eye exam to determine if you have retinitis pigmentosa. Your ophthalmologist will dilate your eyes to look at the back of them for signs of disease.

Treatment: Currently there is no known cure for retinitis pigmentosa. However, research has shown that vitamin A palmitate may slow the progression of certain forms of RP. Your ophthalmologist can advise you about the risks and benefits of vitamin A palmitate and how much you can safely take. Taking too much vitamin A palmitate can be toxic, and evidence of vitamin A palmitate effect on RP progression is not substantial.
Another recommendation for slowing vision loss from RP is to wear sunglasses to protect your retina from harmful ultraviolet (UV) light.

Retinal prosthesis is also an important area of exploration because the prosthesis, a man-made device intended to replace a damaged body part, can be designed to take over the function of the lost photoreceptors by electrically stimulating the remaining healthy cells of the retina.

Red Eyes - Did You Know It Can Cause You Your Eyesight?

MBBS, MD - Ophthalmology, Fellowship in Vitreo Retina, Fellowship in Cornea
Ophthalmologist, Bangalore
Red Eyes - Did You Know It Can Cause You Your Eyesight?

Bloodshot eyes indicate the reddening of the eye vessels. They can cause irritation and make the eye swollen. The condition may arise due to allergies, eye infections, allergies, fatigue and other illness of the eye. It does not signify a disease but indicates an eye condition which might have caused the eye to redden. Bloodshot eyes can be encountered in one or both the eyes.

Causes of Bloodshot Eyes:

One of the frequent causes of bloodshot eyes is irritants such as dry air, pollen, pet dander, dust and UV rays of the sun. Shortage of sleep also tends to make the eyes red. Inflammations of the eye can also make them red giving a bloodshot appearance. It can even happen with people who wear contact lens for more than 16 hours without soaking it in the disinfectant. At times excessive dryness can make the eyes red. Some other reasons for the eye to become red include conjunctivitis, blepharitis, glaucoma and corneal ulcer. Another concerning reason of bloodshot eyes is a subconjunctival haemorrhage. While the latter is not dangerous in nature, it can cause significant trouble if proper care is not taken on time.

Symptoms of Red Eyes:

Some of the common signs of bloodshot eyes include watery eyes, foreign sensation, burning feeling, dermatitis, falling of eye lashes, light sensitivity, swollen eyelid, itching of the eye and feeling of irritation of the eye.

The Complications Involved:

In most of the cases, bloodshot eyes do not imply serious complications. In case it happens from conjunctivitis, a person may not be able to go to work, wear cosmetics and come in public places since it is a communicable disease. If bloodshot eyes arise from a serious condition such as glaucoma and trauma, some of the possible complications may involve the following:

  1. Eye scarring

  2. Vision loss due to complete blindness

  3. Spreading of the existing condition to other persons

  4. Eye loss in severe cases

Preventive Measures:

Bloodshot eyes might arise from an array of reasons. While it cannot be totally dodged, some general preventive measures can ensure that such a condition does not arise:

  1. Keeping hands clean by thoroughly washing them with liquid soap

  2. Not sharing personal belongings such as washcloths, linen, and cosmetics

  3. Get immediate medical attention in case of any eye injuries

  4. Stay away from an environment that is full of allergens

  5. Staying away from people who are suffering from infectious eye diseases such as conjunctivitis

  6. Taking a shower immediately after getting in touch with an infected person suffering from conjunctivitis

  7. Wearing eye glasses in a dusty environment

In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Eye itching can be due to many reasons and few of important reasons are 1.Weak eyesight 2.Eye allergy due to dust, infection 3.Continuous watching TV,Computer, for long time in routine in dim light So either find out a reason urself or visit a local eye specialist as a physical examination is compulsory for a final diagnosis.

Just wear your glasses and get annual eye checkup. Your number should stabilise on its own. Once stabilised you can plan for refractive surgery.

I have problem I'm my eyes so kindly eyes in red n just irritate it with some illigation.

DHMS (Diploma in Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery)

I have problem I'm my eyes so kindly eyes in red n just irritate it with some illigation.
Eyes appear red because the vessels at the surface of the white portion of the eye (sclera) become swollen. Vessels may swell due to: • Eye dryness • Too much sun exposure • Dust or other particles in the eye • Allergies • Infection • Injury Eye infections or inflammation can cause redness as well as possible itching, discharge, pain, or vision problems. These may be due to: • Blepharitis: Swelling along the edge of the eyelid. • Conjunctivitis: Swelling or infection of the clear tissue that lines the eyelids and covers the surface of the eye (the conjunctiva). This is often referred to as "pink eye." • Corneal ulcers: Sores on the cornea most often caused by a serious bacterial or viral infection. • Uveitis: Inflammation of the uvea, which includes the iris, ciliary body, and choroid. The cause is most often not known. It may be related to an autoimmune disorder, infection, or exposure to toxins. The type of uveitis that causes the worst red eye is called iritis, in which only the iris is inflamed. Dear Lybrate user:- pls stop drinking alcohol urgently. Alcohol is vasodilator, it will cause flushing out of face & redness of the eyes. No medication is needed for stopping side effects of the alcohol, except it's prohibition.
