It is due to gum infection which is again due to calculus deposit on teeth and into the gums. You have to see a good dentist who will clean the teeth with an ultrasonic scaler or a periodontist who is specialised in gum surgery. You have to take medicines and mouth wash. If you are diabetic please check and report that to doctor. If you have any chewing habits or smoking habits please stop that. Please tell the doctor that you have difficulty in taking spicy foods and hard goods and then he will check the mucosa for any specific diseases.

Kindly consult a dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations (full mouth & profile x-ray) to decide upon treatment. You may need braces. Cost depends upon your affordability, duration & requirements. It varies with dentist. You may consult me in person. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. How Safe Is Tooth Whitening?

MDS, B.D.S
Dentist, Kanpur
How Safe Is Tooth Whitening?

Nobody is happy with their teeth and everybody wants whiter, brighter teeth. In the last few decades, tooth whitening is one of the most commonly done cosmetic dental procedures. Majority of these people are in the age of 10 to 25, who are very conscious about their looks.

What needs to be understood is that dental whitening is permissible to a certain extent. Not many people realize this and continue to use teeth whiteners even after the desired result is achieved in an effort to get it a couple of more shades lighter. This is something that we need to watch our for.

Safety of tooth whitening: Some of the supposedly unsafe aspects of tooth whitening are most products used currently are tested both on patients and in laboratory and are proven to be completely safe. However, overuse or misuse of these products can lead to issues. The active chemical ingredient in most of these products is hydrogen peroxide. Most of the products contain about 10% carbamide peroxide, which breaks into hydrogen peroxide and urea. There are claims that this is carcinogenic. However, this is not the case and there is no strong correlation. Also, if the application is done correctly, there is very minimal exposure to hydrogen peroxide directly.

The second issue that most people associate with tooth whitening is  tooth sensitivity and gum irritation. Both these symptoms are directly related to the percentage of carbamide peroxide. It is shown that products with more than 10% produce more teeth sensitivity and gum irritation than those that contain less than 10%. Improper tray selection can lead to gum irritation. Also, patients who are overzealous and go about whitening their teeth further can end up with severe sensitivity. The explanation in these cases is the enamel is worn off by the chemical leading to exposed dentinal tubules which, even when exposed due to caries, can cause sensitivity.

Listed below are some ways to avoid or reduce sensitivity:

  1. When using the bleaching tray applicator, use it only for the recommended period of time. Do not keep it longer to make the teeth whiter.
  2. Use a paste that is meant for sensitive teeth. The potassium nitrate in these will help relieve sensitivity.
  3. Use a product with fluoride so that the teeth can remineralize. This can be used before and after tooth whitening for up to 4 minutes.

It is advisable to avoid tooth whitening in some cases like the following

  1. Pregnancy
  2. Breast feeding
  3. Ceramic crowns or bridges in the front teeth - these cannot be bleached
  4. Gingival disease with gum recession and exposed root - the sensitivity is sure to quite high

To avail the best results, always use clinically proven products under the supervision of a dentist.

My teeth is yellow please say some tips for my teeth white and bright and reason how to fresh my teeth.

BDS
Dentist, Thane
My teeth is yellow please say some tips for my teeth white and bright and reason how to fresh my teeth.
Hi lybrate-user, treatment plan to make your teeth white goes as follows: visit the dentist, who will first do clean up of your teeth this will remove all the extrinsic stains and deposits present on the teeth & reveal the original colour of your teeth. After that if you want more brighter teeth you can undergo teeth whitening or bleaching treatment for further enhancement of shade. Your dentist will be best judge to decide whether home bleaching or in office bleaching will provide you with the desired results. You can try some commercially available whitening toothpastes after bleaching to maintain the effect for bit longer time. Whitening toothpastes can also be used without bleaching treatment for very minor yellowish discolouration but cannot give you satisfactory results in more complex situations.

Sir I have problem of sensitivity at my tooth and also gets problem when chew anything hot or cool.

Sir I have problem of sensitivity at my tooth and also gets problem when chew anything hot or cool.
This could b either due to sensitivity due to loss of enamel surface or due to decay of tooth. Tooth decay can b treated by filling of tooth or by rct n capping of the decay is deep. Sensitivity can b reduced by using desensitizing toothpaste such as senquelF or sensodyne toothpaste by rubbing some amount of toothpaste onto ur tooth surface n wait till 5 mins before rinsing it off. Get ur teeth evaluated by dentist to know the cause of ur problem n get treated accordingly. Regsrds.

Hello sir, I am getting bad smell from mouth and nose. Can you tell me any suggestion for it sir.
Kindly get scaling done and use mouth wash twice daily for 15 days. Brush your teeth twice daily using correct brushing technique to maintain your oral hygiene. Also notice that you are not constipated most of the times as this is also one of the reasons for bad breath. As far as bad smell from your nose is concerned kindly visit an ent specialist for the same.

I have a lot of pain in tooth what should I do to prevent it give me the solution.
Pain in teeth can be caused by many things like it can b due to-- 1-dental cavities which are deep enough to expose pulp (nerve) causing its irritation leading to pain and infection, 2- gum problems 3- any trauma to tooth 4- pain due to tmjoint. For better diagnosis and treatment plan visit a dentist for full clinical examination along with xrays. (as without seeing I cannot suggest you proper treatment).

Medicines alone donot help majority of dental probs n I need definitive treatment by dentist. Gums bleeding is due to infection in gums. Get scalling done by dentist. Use proper brushing techniques. Brush, floss n use mouthwash twice daily. Massage your gums with your finger tips after brushing. Keep your tongue clean. Rinse your mouth well after each meal. Visit your dentist for dental checkups every 6 months to detect n prevent dental probs.

To avoid infection and reduce pain in a first-degree burn on the tongue: rinse the area well with cool water for a few minutes. Remove any dirt or particles that may be on the burn. Wet a clean cloth with cool water and hold it on top of the burn. Suck on ice chips or a popsicle to soothe the pain. Gargle with cool water or salt water. Avoid warm or hot liquids, which could irritate the burn. Take acetaminophen or ibuprofen for pain and inflammation. Sprinkle a few grains of sugar on the tongue to relieve pain.
