Dear lybrate-user, please do not think about your fathers affairs. He is not doing any injustice towards. If you go his age then you think about his problem. Now you feel it is mistake. But in my opinion it is not mistake. How we know his personal problems and personal interests. So do not be depressed. Do not think about the past depressive status. Feel very good friendly with him. Please share any one close friend girls only. Do not share with boys. If it is problem leave it. Ignore the problem that is his problem not yours so do not concentrate and do not think about this problem. It is right as his age. It is not right to think about his problem. If you cross this 40 then you can understand ok do not feel about it.

Its OK to be upset !!
Its OK to cry sometimes, scream, throw a tantrum, seek attention at times. Its not OK to punish yourself when angry, Its not OK when you don't ventilate. Let it out..share it.

Dear, jealousy is no mental disorder and is an emotion. Jealousy is an emotion like anger, grief etc. Everyone are emotional. When an emotion comes we either vent it out or control. Best option is to vent it our or learn to live with the circumstance. Don't worry. Take care.

Lybrate-user, people seldom change, it applies to you, & to your wife as well. Though it sounds irrational that she takes loan without a proper cause, but that is how it is. She seems to be a loan freak. You should enter her shoes and show interest in loans, borrowing etc and try her to change her loans to'reasonable" stuff. Like education, jewelry, property etc for eg. Lets close this loan and lets us buy some gold/house. She will change when & if she has to, putting more pressure will only make her rigid and more secretive in her transactions. Good luck.

Dear sir,
I am using levothyroxine 25 from 6 months, doctor told me because of anxiety my thyroid level was elevated,...
Mr. lybrate-user, Usually when TSH level is between 6 to 9.9 mU/L, condition is considered as subclinical hypothyroidism and no treatment is advocated. Sometime treatment is given if there is associated low T4 level and patient has severe symptoms of hypothyroidism. Since you have been already taking the drug, there is no option but to continue it. TSH 4.9 is with in the normal range, however, if you stop treatment, it will again go up. Thanks.

Dear lybrate-user, exam phobia or exam fear comes under the head of performance anxiety. This fear is a common picture among students and the feelings increase when students start studying. In extreme cases this phenomenon becomes exam phobia. The symptoms of exam phobia can be easily observed and addressed. It is an irrational and powerful fear and aversion to exams. Overwhelming anxiety can affect memory and students may forget answers even if they knew. The best method to overcome exam phobia is to" always bear in mind that we are studying only to live and not living only to study" don't force yourself to get high marks at least for the time being. Enjoy learning. You should consult a psychologist online or offline for counseling. Take care.

At your age and with the course you are doing there may be a lot of distractions going on that may be the cause of the problem. There may also be mental fatigue from over-studying. In that case you may need to take a useful break for a short period and then return back to your studies. In your case the subject may have reached boring proportions and so it may not find appeal to your mind. In that case the drowsiness will prevail. You could try group study to generate some interest because of the others involvement. Also, study difficult subjects in the early part of the morning when your mind is freshest and the metabolic rate; mood and energy levels are rising up to 11 am. Here are some things to do that will alleviate the situation, if you followed them meticulously. If you are under some stress, there will be difficulty remembering. So if you handled stress better, you will certainly improve. With regard to memory, it is very important that your brain and body is rested well to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. So, catch a good 8 hours of sleep every night. Puzzles pose problems to the brain that help it to use new pathways and neurons, which give the brain considerable exercise. It taxes the left brain to use logic to solve the myriad possibilities which other activities do not stimulate. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Jigsaws and rubik cube stimulate different permutations to finally settle on the most likely one. Picture completion and anagrams help approach problem solving from several angles. Do sudoku, and memory co-relation activities and skills. Have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), nuts, avocado, eat dark chocolate, do yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out, if you are stronger visual or auditory. The visual is a better mode than the auditory. However, if you combine the two modes, you will get the best concentration. Have a special place of learning, which should be well lit, with soft painted walls, well-ventilated, with no distractions. When you get bored, study by writing. If you repeat learning at least five to seven times, you will apparently remember for a longer time. Sit comfortably but do not slouch. The reading material should be of a fairly large print. Study at small intervals of about 40 minutes and then take a break or change the subject. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. There are some memory enhancing techniques and study methods that your teacher will be able to guide you with. You may also meet with a counselor to take care of the stress related emotions, and then you will fare better too.

Recently I have been feeling very frustrated.I'm a dentist and working in clinic and also preparing for pg exams because of the stress not able to focus on my studies and also my social life is getting affected

When you are giving exams, then it could help you to do away with activities which will not take you towards your goal. Time management, distressing though exercising, socialising, getting enough sleep, drinking enough water will help you along your path. You can get back to living a regular pattern of living once your exams are done if they are more important for you right now.

What you are going through is greaving. Loosing loved one is not easy to deal with emotionally. I am sorry for your loss. There are few things I would like you to try. 1. When you feel sad. Feel the feeling of sadness fully. You may close your eyes and let that sadness flow through your mind and body. If tears flow let them flow. Cry it out. Feeling what you feel fully and totally is healing. Once you feel your sadness fully. You might feel the lightness in your heart. Feel that too and say out loud. How wonderful! and engage your mind remembering some good qualities and good times you spent with the person you are missing. 2. Regular simple breath awareness meditation also help manage your loss. 3. You may also l write daily 3 to 5 things you are grateful to every morning. These things could be as simple as having a bed to sleep and food to eat. Affirm what you write and add new thing in your list for 7 to10 days. If you are not feeling any change over next 2 weeks or if you lack motivation to initiate and maintain above activities feel free revert and we could work together for few weeks to reverse your cycle and help you appreciate what you have. Hope this helps wishing you very best.

I am smoking since last 2 years .and now I can't stop that .I mean I want to but m addicted for this .tell how to get rid of it and it's consequences if not stopped early.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Best age to stop smoking is before 40 ,In fact do not start all Only by using strong will power and avoiding all situations where you feel like smoking, chewing tobacco or drinking or using drugs/ weed, avoiding friends who smoke and diverting mind by reading or chewing a gum, like NICORETTE and taking a walk when you crave for a smoke can all help. You can chew Nicorette gum which is nicotine replacement. There are medicines available. Which can be prescribed if asked personally Cigarette smoking is a leading preventable cause of mortality. It kills more than 60 lakh people worldwide every year. More than 50% of regular smokers would invariably die from tobacco-related illnesses which includes heart attack, cancer or asthmatic lung diseases. Best age to stop smoking is before 40 31st May is “World No Tobacco Day” Quitting smoking before the age of 40 is associated with larger decline in premature death than stopping it at a later date. Best age therefore to stop smoking is before 40. However, stopping smoking even after the age of 50 is still associated with lower risk of death as compared to those who continue to smoke. Even in smokers aged 80 years or more, quitting smoking appears to reduce some mortality.

Yes, it is good that you have decided to quit early. 18 months of smoking obviously causes damage depending upon the number of cigarettes smoked per day, but much of the damage can be reversed if you quit now. Best of luck!

Hye, thanks for the query. At times poor nutrition can cause nutrition insufficiency leading to low stamina which actually converts to laziness. Being underweight can be a concern if it's the result of poor nutrition. Here are some healthy ways to gain weight when you're underweight: eat more frequently. When you're underweight, you may feel full faster. Eat five to six smaller meals during the day rather than two or three large meals. Choose nutrient-rich foods. As part of an overall healthy diet, choose whole-grain breads, rice and cereals; fruits and vegetables; dairy products; lean protein sources; and nuts. Don't fill up on diet soda, coffee and other drinks with few calories and little nutritional value. Instead, drink smoothies or healthy shakes. Snack on nuts, dried fruits and fresh fruits. Even when you're underweight, be mindful of excess sugar and fat. An occasional slice of cake or ice cream is fine. But most sweets should be healthy and provide nutrients in addition to calories. Sheera, lassi and chikki are good choices. Exercise, especially strength training, can help you gain weight by building up your muscles. Exercise may also stimulate your appetite.
