Where you ever rejected for being a boy or did someone important, like your parents, wish you were a girl? Or this could mean an escape mechanism whenever you feel sad and perhaps lonely. You need to see which of this is true and work with a counselor to sort out this cross dressing during unpleasant times. Also you need to find out about being always disturbed and what that is all about. If you were in your late teens a lot of this could be somewhat explained but you have not given me your age to know that. If not dealt with this could lead to a lot of complications with your sexual orientation too. It could also affect your self-confidence and self-image. Meet soon with a counselor but find out your developmental history from your parents first, and if they are willing, you could take them too.

Dear lybrate user. I can understand. A persons weight could reduce due to anxiety and stress. This mainly happens because of lack of appetite for stressed person. Thyroid problems, anemia etc can also cause weight loss. Take care.

If you had had ADHD, it is possible that this may be a leftover effect of that. You are currently over-weight, and the exercise you are doing may not suffice for vigorousness. Your sedentary life and less work at your job may further bring in the monotony and lethargy. Your lifestyle is really a choice and your indulgence to this passive life must be given up and you must fill in your day (even at work) with more interesting and mind-occupying activities. Although the job does not offer much in terms of challenge, you can do something about it, instead of just accepting it. Even your routine is boring. So get off of your butt and start an active life to live longer and to live well. Meet with a counselor and discuss your emotions, particularly that of anger.

If you feel depressed, it's best to do something about it — depression doesn't just go away on its own. In addition to getting help from a doctor or therapist, here are 5 things you can do to feel better. 1.Exercise. Take a 15- to 30-minute brisk walk every day — or dance, jog, or bike if you prefer. People who are depressed may not feel much like being active. In addition to getting aerobic exercise, some yoga poses can help relieve feelings of depression. Two other aspects of yoga — breathing exercises and meditation — can also help people with depression feel better. 2.Nurture yourself with good nutrition. Depression can affect appetite. One person may not feel like eating at all, but another might overeat. Proper nutrition can influence a person's mood and energy. So eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and get regular meals (even if you don't feel hungry, try to eat something light, like a piece of fruit, to keep you going). 3.Identify troubles, but don't dwell on them. Try to identify any situations that have contributed to your depression. When you know what's got you feeling blue and why, talk about it with a caring friend. Talking is a way to release the feelings and to receive some understanding. 4. Express yourself. With depression, a person's creativity and sense of fun may seem blocked. Exercise your imagination (painting, drawing, doodling, sewing, writing, dancing, composing music, etc.) and you not only get those creative juices flowing, you also loosen up some positive emotions. Take time to play with a friend or a pet, or do something fun for yourself. Find something to laugh about — a funny movie, perhaps. Laughter helps lighten your mood. 5. Try to notice good things. Depression affects a person's thoughts, making everything seem dismal, negative, and hopeless. If depression has you noticing only the negative, make an effort to notice the good things in life. Try to notice one thing, then try to think of one more. Consider your strengths, gifts, or blessings. Most of all, don't forget to be patient with yourself. Depression takes time to heal. If you are happy with these answers please click on "useful” link so that I can know my efforts are not wasted. If you want more clarifications or prescription for medicines consult me on this site to ask me directly and not in open questions session It's not easy to say exactly what causes depression and anxiety – it's different for everyone. Sometimes a difficult time in you or your mates' life can set off depression or anxiety, sometimes it's caused by a combination of things that has built up over time and sometimes, there's just no obvious cause at all.

What are the exercises and nutrition can I have for doing sharping the memory or cognitive.

BASM, MD, MS (Counseling & Psychotherapy), MSc - Psychology, Certificate in Clinical psychology of children and Young People, Certificate in Psychological First Aid, Certificate in Positive Psychology

Dear lybrate-user umar, welcome to lybrate. Memory and mind power depends mainly on three aspects. Understanding, storage and recollection. To understand what you are studying, you must be able to be attentive or concentrate. Concentration is possible when you are interested in that subject. Creative way of learning can help you concentrate and understand easily. When you are able to understand and concentrate, it is stored within your brain. If you read more and more it will be store in long term memory. Third part is retrieval. Whenever you want to retrive what you learned and stored, your brain gets the request, searches the database and retrieves the information for you. The retrieval may prove to be difficult if you are anxious, stressed, worried or tired physically or mentally. Retrieval is more easy when you are relaxed and healthy. Brain needs nutrients to keep itself sharp. Fruits, vegetables and dry fruits provide much needed nutrients for your brain. Include at least one fruit in your daily diet. Physical exercises, entertainment, hobbies, relaxation, memory games like sudoku etc help keep your memory sharp and active. You may consult a psychologist online or in person for advice, counseling and therapy. Take care.

Dear, you must be able to distinguish between mental disease and mental disorder. Your problem is a mental disorder. Not a mental disease. These mental disorders are usually treated with a combination of medicines and other means like awareness, meditation, psychotherapy techniques, life style changes etc. I think two or three counseling sessions and psycho therapy techniques should solve her problem. Let me know if she is willing to undergo counseling sessions and tailor made psycho therapy through mobile. Take care.

I was a bright student since childhood I was a topper .but since last two years even can't pass in exams. I am in class 12 right now and merely 40 days are left for board exams which will indeed decide my future my entire life. When I sit to study my mind goes somewhere else and I don't even know when I got distracted. I study for long hours but then also I forget 80% matter studied. I can't remember things .when I sit in exam hall I feel a sort of tiredness a sort of sleepiness and so I can't even manage to pass I don't know how I got in this but I wanna get rid of all this. Also I sit for long hours but I can do very meagre very little study that's not enough to pass in board exams even most dull students are far ahead of me I feel very sad and my parents do not know all this is happening with me please help.

Psychiatrist, Guwahati
Every moment is precious for you now, as only 40 days are left for your exam. Rather than wasting your time thinking of the consequences of the exam, utilize the remaining time to the fullest & put your maximum effort in your preparation. Take the following measures to improve your concentration & prepare well: •Make a study routine giving maximum time for studies. Also give adequate time for sleep, rest & relaxation. Between studies you have to relax also. This will help in sustaining your interest & concentration. Try to stick to your routine. At night look back how much you could follow the routine & reward yourself if the day was productive & to your satisfaction. In the form of reward you can give little extra time for relaxation next day, watch TV or spend some with internet, eat something you like, meet a friend etc. Encourage yourself daily. •Revise your lessons regularly. •Study relaxly with a calm mind & take small breaks during studies. •Group studies & group discussions are also helpful. •Do not try to memorize blindly. Try to understand your lessons. •Write down the main points & form mnemonics from them. Mnemonic devices are techniques which help to remember something. It’s a simple shortcut that helps us associate the information we want to remember with an image, a sentence, or a word. •Have a plan to manage your time of study. Make a routine for studying. Study for 30-45 minutes & then take 5-10 mins break. •Be confident of yourself & do not compare yourself with others. •If you feel stressed while studying, talk to someone, listen to some music or do something that relax you. •Create the environment in your study room similar to your exam hall. Then you will find your exam hall comfortable & familiar. •Expect exam outcomes rationally & what is within your capability. Impractical & over expectation that is beyond one’s capability brings in fear & frustration. •During these days of preparation for exam eat healthy, stay hydrated & avoid substances of abuse, as a healthy body prepares a healthy mind. •Every morning relax yourself adequately before you sit for studies; go for a walk, spend some time with nature, go for a walk, do yoga, breathing exercise or relaxation techniques. •On the day prior to exam sleep adequately. •Reach the examination hall before time so that you are relaxed & mentally prepared for the exam. Do not guess the exam outcomes just target to give your best. Think positive. Start writing with a calm mind. Be aware of the anxiety symptoms, & if you feel anxiety is building up, just concentrate on breathing in & out slowly or tighten & relax your shoulders or stretch your legs. You can also take a small break & drink some water •Do not look around; just concentrate on your paper. •Revise quickly once you finish answering. All the best for your preparation & for your exam. Give your best.

Hello Doctor, I am 22 years old boy 1 year ago I faced a shock in my life that lead me to depression. psychiatrist advised me some medicine. I took for 15 days but after 15 days a local doctor advised me to give up that medicine as I could be addicted to it. Now after 1 year my life is almost alright. But still some times I feel restless for 1-3 minutes that's also very minor. I think I have recovered 90% depression as my muscle pain is also gone. Am I doing right.

At present you are almost symptom free- that is very good. Still, I would suggest you to see a psychologist, provided you can afford. Sittings with a psychologist will help you identify the source of your stress symptoms and once you are able to identify the root cause it can be treated permanently without the fear or apprehension that some problem can crop up anytime again.

Hi my age is 20 and I am a college student. About a month ago I had severe panic attack during my flu and had to be rushed to the hospital. I was having shortness of breath with fever and other flu symptoms. We thought that it was an asthma attack or I was having some problem in my lungs since I was a regular smoker. However after few days all my reports were normal and I was released from the hospital. After a week I had the same thing and again I thought that I would just die. I was again rushed to the hospitals and this time they gave me shots of antibiotics and deriphyllin with some antacids. However after a few days when again my reports were normal I was suggested a psychiatrist and he diagnosed that I was suffering from anxiety disorder. I did not have any type of anxiety or panic before in my life so I refused to take the meds and decided that I will fight this on my own. One thing I observed that after eating full stomach I wud get severe episodes of panic or anxiety. Then I came back home and I was not better at all so I did a bit of my own research and found that when histamine increases in your body you can get anxiety attacks so I bought a cetrizine pill from the nearby drug store and ate it, I was feeling a hell lot of better the other day! so I told this to my doc and he prescribed me cetrizine for another 15 days. I also had blocked or stuffy nose so I was given levocitrazin hydrochloride and I had a weird tightness in my throat for which I was given some kind of gastric medicine. Those pills worked like magic all my anxiety gone I was feeling way better and started going out again. A mistake I did maybe that I started smoking again but very less like one cigarette when my friends were with me. I again caught cold without any fever and my anxiety was back. The cetrizine pills stopped working I am again having itchy skin however sneezing and itchy eyes are not happening and again my stomach is creating hell lot of acid and days and nights have become like hell for me. I can not eat because I get too much anxious or panicked after eating and my BP is too low. nausea DIZZINESS lightheadedness STUFFY NOSE AND CHOKING THROAT WITH ANXIETY AND SKIN ITCHING have become my day to day symptoms. I am not having fever. I am afraid to go out I do not have enough energy even to get my life straight. I am in a very bad place. I have given an allergy test whose reports are still to come. I also have ITCHY SCALP and sweat makes me itch more. I really need some advice. I do not even know which doctor to go to. I just want this misery to end.

Hi To overcome your anxiety, relax your mind. Don't think negatively. You have a negative assumption that after eating you will have panic attacks. Change your thinking. Think positively and give positive affirmations to yourself. Learn relaxation techniques and practice daily. Deep breathing will also help you. Develop good hobbies and engage yourself. Join yoga or pranayama classes. This gives you relief.
