I have a smoking habit. Sometimes I get chest pain and hard to breath problem and throat infection.

All of these symptoms and you are barely 21 years of age. You are certainly playing dangerously with your life. Go to your physician and get a thorough medical check done with particular emphasis on your symptoms. When quitting, you must take one day at a time; though you must give up all smoking at once, and promptly. If you look too far ahead you will get discouraged and will give up. If you sit and count the number of days you have given up, that will also focus too much on achievement. You must focus on the here and now, on that day to be precise. After all quitting is not that easy due to many factors. So even if you fail one day, you must try and try again. Very few people succeed in their first attempt. Your persistence will eventually pay off. The urge to discontinue is hampered by many factors but the worst of them is the conditioning. In fact these conditions can exist all through the day unlike other addictions. But your desire to want to stop is the most important factor. It is important to find out about the ill-effects of smoking to have a reason that alarms you about continuing in the habit. The information is really scary but true and you must remind yourself about this every day. The nicotine in tobacco smoke stimulates the heart beat to raise the blood pressure in no time at all. So you must avoid it like the plague: it is just very bad medicine for you. In fact it is highly toxic too. You will need to stop smoking or consuming any tobacco related items with immediate effect. You should start vigorous exercises, gradually increasing it over a period of time. Do deep breathing exercises every time you feel like smoking (try Yoga), and replace the oral urge with some healthy food substitute to satiate the need. You may also take hard candy or chewing gum. If the urge is too strong, then use nicotine gums and nicotine patches, for a little while until the smoking drive reduces, substantially. You may also join Smokers Anonymous in your city where the support is really extraordinary for like-minded people who are also in the same situation. Keep yourself occupied or engaged with interesting activities during the times when it is most tempting. Keep the company of non-smokers for some time i.e. at least for the first 21 days. Above all announce it to everyone that you have quit smoking. Here?s a piece of very good advice: even if you accidentally/willfully take a cigarette, it is not the end of the world ? you can start the cessation all over again. You must persevere with the best support until you defeat this addiction. Counseling is very useful in the initial stages and when temptations are at their highest.

I am suffering from anxiety. And I have glass pieces in my right hand few years ago I broke a glass with my hand slamming with hand now I am feeling a pain and itches pinch in my fingers.

Dear Lybrate user. Having tingling with pain in fingers may simply be the somatic presentation of your internal anxiety. Having a glass break by your hand 1 year back holds no chance for having pain now. In your age having sexual thoughts most of the time is normal. But it should be in such a way it doesn't interfere with your studies or job or day to day functioning. If the thoughts are excessive and you feel distressed, it becomes sexual obsessions and you need to have medicines to reduce them. Sex between consenting adults is medically normal. Bur unprotected sex with unknown partners has their own risks, if you plan to do so, protect yourself.

Age- 21 years Weight- 58 kgs Height- 174 cms I feel stressful, Often I face headache and anxiety. I feel fatigue and lazy, I want to do activities but my body does not support me to do exercises and extra works as I feel weakness. And one thing that I am not gaining weight, I am slim and straight, I want some muscular or bulk body. But don't know how to proceed for it. I have eaten a lot of junk and spicy food and my body metabolism is decreased and stamina is exhausted as I used to masturbate and do not perform and physical body work. My face is having small acne problem and their scars are not going, suggest any ointment or cream to remove blackspot and the acne scars. Please help me if possible.

Dear Lybrate user, Anxiety disorders are a category of mental disorders characterized by feelings of anxiety and fear, where anxiety is a worry about future events and fear is a reaction to current events. These feelings may cause physical symptoms, such as a racing heart and shakiness. There are a number of anxiety disorders: including generalized anxiety disorder, a specific phobia, social anxiety disorder, separation anxiety disorder, agoraphobia, and panic disorder among others. While each has its own characteristics and symptoms, they all include symptoms of anxiety. Anxiety medicines alone cannot cure anxiety disorders mainly because medicines do not alter behavior. Behavior change and Continuous practice of the changed behavior cure anxiety. I suggest anxiety education, progressive counseling and progressive psychotherapy. I assure you complete cure. I need to know more about your anxiety so that I will be able to diagnose it properly and provide you tips to overcome and manage your anxiety. Take care.

I feel fast heart beat at night and can not even sleep Taking few sleeping tablets at doctors recommendation. I feel fear and mouth dryness during such times. It started since 23rd june night onwards. I always get mentally shocked at such incidents. I feel extreme fear and panic. Kindly suggest me what to do. Only good thoughts helps me at such times But I am depressed because of this incident so at the time I feel more panic. B p 137/87 mg HB 95.

It seems like you have an anxiety issues, which may have triggered due to some incidents. Consider these suggestions. -first, slow down. When we are anxious our thoughts race, our hearts pounds, our breathing accelerates. So at the first sign of it see what all you can do to intentionally slow things down. -anxiety lives in our minds and often manifests in the body that's why you are feeling dryness of your mouth, fast heart beats, racing thoughts etc. So take a few moments to connect with your five senses, it will help bring you back into the moment. -be mindful while doing simple tasks, like walking, eating, reading, cooking etc. Being mindful helps remind us we are in control of our choices. - be aware of your thought process. When you have a negative thought, ask yourself" is this thought true? chances are your worst fears are not the reality of what's happening. - be aware of your triggers. If you know your triggers, you can prepare soothing practices better. When the mind feels prepared, it's more at ease. Take care.

You should get counseling done. Depression has a particular pattern of thoughts and one gets stuck into the pattern. Take actions in life which you have not taken in past for the fear of outcome or social evaluation. There is dissatisfaction created by your mind for not having or not becoming something and the mind also tells you to get rid of this. Do not fight your depression, it will get magnified that way. Get up and do what you want irrespective of the outcome!

See, ideally the best thing in this situation is you make a schedule and stick to it, you need to organize your life and make small goals and try to achieve it one step at a time. Lack of sleep is the most common cause. Two little restful sleep can also lead to mood changes and anxiety which in turn can contribute to memory impairment.
Many drugs can affect memory, which includes tranquilizers, antidepressants, blood pressure drugs and anti–allergic drugs.
Low functioning thyroid can affect memory.
Drinking too much alcohol can interfere with short–term memory.
Stress and anxiety can lead to memory impairment. Both can interfere with attention and block the formation of new memory or retrieval of old memories.
Forgetfulness can be a sign of depression or a consequence of it.
If you are vegetarian, vitamin B12 deficiency can loss memory impairment

I feel weakness/tiredness most of the time for no reason, I am not doing anything physical or mental. What should I do.

Doing nothing might be the teanson for your sluggishness, which you are feeling as weakness. Try to take well nutrotious food, 6-8 hrs of sleep, with proper regular exercoses&do engage in work whoch you like more.

Hi, females usually have plenty of mood swings due to hormonal imbalances, especiallly during this age. Apart from this, if there are some stressors like family issues, love issues, or stress at the office, which you are finding difficult to handle, you need to share them with either your friends or family and try to sort out the things with them. Make sure your work is not affected. In case your problem is slowly affecting your work, then probably you need some professional help.

I am 27 years old, I always feel mental stress, headache,negative/abnormal thinking that I don't to think but it always repeat in my mind. I have consulted to a doctor, he given me "Rexipra 10" Clocit 10" Fluto 60" but I have not feel too much relief. I have taken some homeopathic nerve tonic also "Vita-C 15" but again I am not satisfied. Please provide some better suggestion for my problem. I will be grateful to you forever.

I always keeps thinking of about something or the other because of which I can not concentrate on any thing for much time, because I will starting or day dreaming about something. Also I am very sensitive to what people say. I keep thinking over and over again, specially about my weaknesses or like why someone yelled at me or why they are laughing at me etc. I was never like this before. I never used to be so sensitive with thoughts. Because of this problem I can not enjoy myself. How can this be helped. Can someone help me out? Thankyou.

Dear Akhil, The duty of your mind is to think. You cannot control your mind's thinking. Once you just leave your mind without diversion, it always end up in negative territory. But certainly you can divert your thinking. You can make your mind to be always positive by engaging in creative activities, hobbies, games and passionate towards whatever you do. Thereby you can reduce your stress and tension also. Once you can do this, loss of proper sleep and stress also can be made normal. Please consult a psychologist for more advice. Take care.

Ways to Fight Depression If you feel depressed, it's best to do something about it — depression doesn't just go away on its own. In addition to getting help from a doctor or therapist, here are 5 things you can do to feel better. 1. Exercise. Take a 15- to 30-minute brisk walk every day — or dance, jog, or bike if you prefer. People who are depressed may not feel much like being active. In addition to getting aerobic exercise, some yoga poses can help relieve feelings of depression. Two other aspects of yoga — breathing exercises and meditation — can also help people with depression feel better. 2. Nurture yourself with good nutrition. Depression can affect appetite. One person may not feel like eating at all, but another might overeat.. Proper nutrition can influence a person's mood and energy. So eat plenty of fruits and vegetables and get regular meals (even if you don't feel hungry, try to eat something light, like a piece of fruit, to keep you going). 3. Identify troubles, but don't dwell on them. Try to identify any situations that have contributed to your depression. When you know what's got you feeling blue and why, talk about it with a caring friend. Talking is a way to release the feelings and to receive some understanding. 4. Express yourself. With depression, a person's creativity and sense of fun may seem blocked. Exercise your imagination (painting, drawing, doodling, sewing, writing, dancing, composing music, etc.) and you not only get those creative juices flowing, you also loosen up some positive emotions. Take time to play with a friend or a pet, or do something fun for yourself. Find something to laugh about — a funny movie, perhaps. Laughter helps lighten your mood. 5.Try to notice good things. Depression affects a person's thoughts, making everything seem dismal, negative, and hopeless. If depression has you noticing only the negative, make an effort to notice the good things in life. Try to notice one thing, then try to think of one more. Consider your strengths, gifts, or blessings. Most of all, don't forget to be patient with yourself. Depression takes time to heal. DIET IN DEPRESSION

Neurotransmitters such as dopamine, serotonin and endorphin are responsible for regulating moods and behavior. The body is able to produce these neurotransmitters because of certain nutrients like protein, fatty acids and carbohydrates. Since these nutrients come from the food we consume, it is important to pay attention to your diet. Eating the right foods can help to prevent nutritional deficiencies and hormonal imbalances. This, in turn, helps to prevent or reduce mood changes and emotional disturbances, where dietary deficiencies may have been contributing factors. Here are some tips on what to eat to prevent depression:

The importance of eating a healthy breakfast cannot be stressed enough. It helps to maintain your blood sugar levels and thus keeps your moods stable.Oats make a good breakfast food because they help to combat stress and also keep your cholesterol levels in check.

Don’t drastically reduce fat from your diet. Some amount of fat is necessary for proper functioning. Try to ensure an intake of healthy fats such as omega-3 fatty acids which are found in foods such as nuts, fatty fish and seeds.

Add plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables to your diet as these will supply your body with a variety of essential vitamins and minerals.
Foods such as lean turkey, chicken and milk are high in tryptophan, an amino acid that stimulates the release of serotonin. Serotonin enhances mood.

Restrict your intake of caffeinated beverages and alcohol. Some studies have indicated a link between excessive coffee consumption and depression. Alcohol affects mood and can also interfere with sleep.

Avoid following restrictive or crash diets that eliminate an entire food group. These can considerably affect your normal body rhythm and may lead to hormonal imbalances.

I am patient of depression since 4 years. Now m going to b cured from it. Doctors decreased my dose finally. M at least dose now. But still I have a problem of oversleeping at day time? Ya I heard doctor say to do opposite what depression says you to do. If I will not sleep at day time. Will b I benefited from dat. N how it will harm if I sleep at day time? please say me. I have been smoking for 4 years. Have also smoked ganja for 2 years. I want to stop it. But will the tar from the lungs get removed? How much time will it take.

Smoking has many adverse effect on different system in your body. Congratulations that you are thinking about quitting it. Now you need to figure out the best strategy that works for you. Following information may help you. One of the few habits which takes very systematic approach and needs lot of support and individualized strategies to quit successfully. Data such as - since how long are you smoking and how many cigarettes a day you consume are important information. Also have you tried quitting it earlier? how successful were you? and what are your personal reasons to stop smoking? all these are also important part of your success strategy. Broadly speaking your reasons for not smoking work as your motivator. The stronger the reasons behind not smoking the higher the motivation and thus higher the chances for you to be successful. Also your body will have a withdrawal symptoms and it is very important to come up with strategies and solid plan to counter these withdrawal symptoms. These strategies should be tailor-maid as per your need and situation. If you consider these and many other individualized approach and if you have a solid support throughout your journey. You would be able to make a shift from being a smoker to a non smoker. Along with this eating healthy and having a good routine for eat and sleep is also very important. Dear, You must be able to understand Concentration, attention span, recollection and distraction. If you are able to watch a movie for two hours continuously, if you are able to play a game for an hour, then you do not have any concentration problems. You can't be attentive towards your studies because you are not interested in it. You are able to watch movie and play game because you are interested in it. Human cannot be attentive towards anything for more than 10 minutes. Then you should study in such a way that your attention is continued and make the subjects are interesting to you. Effective learning techniques should help you. Recollection depends on anxiety, stress and other physical and circumstantial factors. Distractions while studying are plentiful. You should be able to overcome distractions or avoid distractions. Please understand the above. Change your study style and attitude accordingly.
