Dear, confidence comes from experience. Level of confidence is different for different things or tasks in life. To improve your confidence you need to undergo confidence building therapy. I learnt smoking few years back since that time it was good now I feel dangerous about it and i'm not able to stop smoking. So please help me out of this.

All habits are unconscious. So try being conscious of your smoking habit. Whenever you smoke, just do it with all your senses alert. Right from pulling out a cigarette from the box watching the picture of smokers lungs on the box. Feeling it between your fingers to putting it between the lips, be aware of the smell of tobacco. Watch yourself lighting it and the grey colored smoke entering your mouth touching and passing by the oral tissues to your air pipe to lastly filling your lungs. Make an internal picture of your pharynx and lungs filled with smoke (at this point, you may watch the picture of lungs again). Pay attention to all other feelings including dryness/coughing/ or any other body changes. Finally you are advised not to judge yourself everyday, and be patient to let the habit go on its own quite miraculously!

Keep to yourself for some days. Don't try to struggle for the opposite. This too will pass. If you struggle against the" depression" it may last longer or else take a counseling session.

I'm an alcoholic, recently I done my lipids & sgpt test. At present I was advised to take UDILIV 300 twice daily with ROSUVAS F 20 during night only. Every time when I tried to withdraw alcohol I had PANIC ATTACK. Is it possible to take a little amount of alcohols per week with the above mentioned drugs or I should take some medicine instead of alcohol?? My sgpt level is 61.

Dear lybrate-user. You should not tak alcohol along with the medicines. Please don't worry about panic attacks and within a day or two the withdrawal symptoms will cease. Consult your doctor for more advise. Take care.

I am 23 years old and I do gym daily with intense exercise and my profession is software developer. But the problem is my concentration has got very weak for everything every time I wish to do something rocking and entertaining which leads to loose my focus on the present task which somewhat decreases my self confidence. moreover when I cannot exercise even for a single day, my confident decreases and I feel very low. Hi, I think excessive gymming is creating the problem as you are exessively stretching yourself. Are you taking proper nutrition? I would suggest you to slow down your gym exercise and replace half of it by jogging or brisk walking. You are getting addicted to gym. Drink lots of water and have lots of salad. Have a good sleep too.

There are steps you can help you managing day to day stressful conditions and take to feel better. 1. Be realistic: If you feel overwhelmed by some activities (yours and/or your family's), learn to say NO! Eliminate an activity that is not absolutely necessary. You may be taking on more responsibility than you can or should handle. If you meet resistance, give reasons why you're making the changes. Be willing to listen to other's suggestions and be ready to compromise. 2. Shed the 'superman/superwoman' urge: No one is perfect, so don't expect perfection from yourself or others. Ask yourself, 'What really needs to be done?' How much can I do? Is the deadline realistic? What adjustments can I make?' Don't hesitate to ask for help if you need it. 3. Take one thing at a time: For people under tension or stress, their day-to-day workload can sometimes seem unbearable. The best way to cope with this feeling of being overwhelmed is to take one task at a time. Make a list of things you need to get done and start with one task. Once you accomplish that task, choose the next one. The positive feeling of 'checking off' tasks is very satisfying. It will motivate you to keep going. 4. Share your feelings: A conversation with a friend lets you know that you are not the only one having a bad day. Stay in touch with friends and family. Ask them how they have dealt with a similar situation that may be 'stressing you out.' Let them provide love, support and guidance. Don't try to cope alone. 5. Be flexible: If you find you're meeting constant opposition in either your personal or professional life, rethink your position or strategy. Arguing only intensifies stressful feelings. Make allowances for other's opinions and be prepared to compromise. If you are willing to be accommodating, others may meet you halfway. Not only will you reduce your stress, you may find better solutions to your problems. Go easy with criticism. You may expect too much of yourself and others. Try not to feel frustrated, disappointed or even 'trapped' when another person criticises you. 6. Hobbies: Take a break from your worries by doing something you enjoy. Whether it's gardening or painting, schedule time to indulge your interest. Exercise: Regular exercise is a popular way to relieve stress. Twenty to thirty minutes of physical activity benefits both the body and the mind. Meditate: Just ten to twenty minutes of quiet reflection may bring relief from chronic stress as well as increase your tolerance to it. 7. Take Herbal Supplement: Herbs like Brahmi, Ashwagandha, Mandukparni, Shankhpuspi, Kaunch are very helpful in managing stress. These herbs work on the brain and help relax you which ultimately empowers you to manage your stressful conditions easily. I think I am in depression and somehow have turned to alchohol and cigarettes to counter it. I was a person who would refrain from indulging in things like alchohol. But I feel like a victim who has fallen in the vicious trap. What do I do? I socialise with a lot of people but I hardly have people in my life whom I can call friends. Perhaps that' s because of being cheated by many in the past. I am a very short tempered person and this bad quality of mine has brought a lot of attrocities in my life and has seeded up a lot of unwanted enemies in my life. I have had many druken brawls in the past and that has somehow psychologically affected me. People have started judging me for my alchoholic habbits and loud nature. I have suddenly started to become a quieter gut and that is somehow killing me from inside. There is this senior guy from my college. We sometimes work together. I find peace in his company and somehow I feel he cares for me like he would do for his youmger brother. But I am not sure if that is for real or just another illusion. The work pressure in my college has beening adding to all my problems because I am pursuing my degree in textile design and have lately realised that what I would love to do is graphics. Although this course was not a total waste as they had initially incorporate few elements of graphic designing in the earlier semesters but the last two semesters are more inclined toward textiles than graphics and hence I am finding no. Interest towards this. But again, I am just left to two more semesters to have a degree in hand so I am somehow thinking of completing my college and not dropping out as that would literally give a heart attack to my parents. I really understand the value of life. I want to get out of all my problems but somehow don' t know how. Hence I thought it was better to consult an expert rather than thinking about it all day and yet reaching nowhere.

Dear, I sincerely think you should change your attitude first. Judging yourself using the eyes of others is not advisable. Secondly if you want to change any habbit, you should do it. Cribbing about a habit when you are unable to do makes you stressed and anxious and disappointed. Exercise, keeping yourself entertained, being in the company of wife and children and relatives, temples etc help you keep aways from' those' compelling situations. Tale care.

For the last 1 year I am addicted to smoking, I take at least three cigarettes a day. Please suggest any solution to stop smoking.

Smoking cigarettes daily is a behavioural pattern which if suddenly stopped may cause some degree of discomfort. It is really an appreciable gesture to stop smoking some ways to give up smoking 1. Read about tobacco use and benefits of quitting from internet to build up the motivation to quit. 2. Check the mood state or the company or situations where you need to smoke 3. Try using nicotine chewing gums in place of cigarettes. Consult a deaddiction specialist or psychiatrist for further help.

My boyfriend is married and having a son too and 13 years elder to me. He is taking divorce so that he can start new life with me. He loves me a lot but is suspicious that I am having an multiple affair with my friend as well as my boyfriends brother which is not true. I tried to convince him many times about this and he does not believe. He keeps checking their online status and abuses that they come only when I am not talking with my boyfriend. I am going mad day by day. I used to chat with my friend and his brother in the past. I just talked to them in a friendly manner and I have no wrong feelings on them. But he does not understand this. Because of him, I stopped talking to my friend as well as his brother. He still checks whatsapp online status and says that they are coming only when I am not talking to him. My family are rival to each other. They will not agree at any cost. But I love him so madly that I am taking all these abuses as I saw his true love for me. But the day he doubts me even when I go for wash room and bath is really bothering me. I am feeling shit. He sometimes call me as bitch and prostitute in anger. I am dieing here. I am loosing interest in food and sleep. Please help me with this.

I can assure you, this relationship could be disaster for you. Quit it. You need to talk to your friends and relatives deeply and relieve your pressure. Counseling is also another good option. You don't have b12 deficiency, but it's levels are reduced. Don't worry it's treatable with that injections, but some more assessment should be done. Don't worry about depression for now, but you need to be assessed by psychiatrist, consult online.

Best age to stop smoking is before 40, in fact do not start all only by using strong will power and avoiding all situations where you feel like smoking, chewing tobacco or drinking or using drugs avoiding friends who smoke and diverting mind by reading or chewing a gum, like nicorette and taking a walk when you crave for a smoke can all help. You can chew nicorette gum which is nicotine replacement. There are medicines available.

Only strong will power, determination, attending AA meetings and diverting mind when tempted will help you stop alcohol or may need professional help from a psychiatrist or de addiction centre. Try to do meditation and yoga. Read good books and listen to music and if you are believer attend Bhajans Alcohol causes 7 types of cancer, including breast, mouth and bowel cancers. When you drink alcohol, cancer-causing chemicals are formed. Alcohol also affects hormone levels and makes cells even more likely to be damaged by smoking. The less alcohol you drink, the lower the risk of cancer. No type of alcohol is better or worse than another, it is the alcohol itself that leads to the damage, regardless of whether it is in wine, beer or spirits. And drinking and smoking together are even worse for you. Not everyone who drinks alcohol will develop cancer. But on the whole, scientists have found that some cancers are more common in people who drink more alcohol than others. Every year, alcohol causes 4% of cancers .Tips to cut down on alcohol. There are lots of simple ways to cut down on the amount of alcohol you drink. It can help to work out if there are particular times or situations when you tend to have a drink, whether that’s a bad day at work or a weekly pub quiz tradition, and plan what you’ll say and do differently next time. Have more alcohol-free days a week. For liver health it’s best to have at least 2 days off alcohol in a row each week. Try agreeing on certain days with your partner or a friend and help each some wi other and stick to it. If you are planning to drink alcohol, decide on a limit in advance and make sure you don’t go over it. Swap every other alcoholic drink for a soft one – starting with your first drink. Try shandy instead of a pint of beer, or swap ne for soda and have a spritzer. Don’t stock up on beer, wine or spirits at home. Finish one drink before pouring another, because topping up drinks makes it harder to keep track of how much you’ve had and when you planned to stop. Avoid buying drinks in rounds, that way you don’t have to keep pace with anyone. Tell a friend or partner that you’re cutting down on alcohol, they can support you – or even join you.

Dear madam/sir, I am very stressed and depressed. I am law student and I am in a relationship since 4 years since school time. Now I am in second year law. We are from same town but after 12th grade we moved to different cities to pursue further studies. My relationship is getting worst we fight alot .we abuse each other too. He has abused me several time but now its hurting my self respect. He is a very nice person though when he comes to visit me he take good care of mine. But as soon as he goes back he does not care. Yesterday we fought and he blocked me without caring that I am crying and getting panic so much. Madam I get panic very much and can cry for hours. If a relationship is not good for you, then just quit it. There must be respect and definitely no abuse. Whatever he is when he meets you, it is not enough if he is not consistent. And please do not take abuse, ever. When he knows that you will not take nonsense and he becomes remorseful, then he is a good person. If he is not regretful, then just stop the relationship. You can tell him why you don't want such a relationship and see how he reacts. At this juncture in your life, it is very important for you to focus on your studies and do well. Also, you are still very young and there are a lot of occasions to meet many compatible men. So do not panic and get depressed. If he knows you for 4 years, surely he must know your character and trust you. I am assuming that these could be some of your problems since you have not mentioned the exact nature of the disputes. Please follow these measures to improve your concentration: I suspect that the adolescent issues with regard to hormones may be affecting your ability to concentrate and remember apart from your the stress of your relationship. When the hormones play up, it lasts for a period of close to two years and during that time you could be influenced by three signs directly impacted by the chemical: you will tend to become aggressive and rebellious, you will become sexually active, and you will have acne and pimple problems. The hormonal imbalances may not only impact your memory because of the chemical but also bring some distractions that come with it. But you may work on the following even if the hormones kick in: Daily exercise of at least half an hour is a must. Even if you go to a gym, ask for aerobic and/or callisthenic exercises with whatever else you are doing. A healthy body harbors a healthy mind. With regard to memory, it is very important that your brain and body is ideally rested to be able to recall whatever is required, rather comfortably. Puzzles pose problems to the brain that help it to use new pathways and neurons, which give the brain considerable exercise. It taxes the left brain to use logic to solve the myriad possibilities which other activities do not stimulate. Crosswords are excellent for vocabulary learning and use. Jigsaws and Rubik cube stimulate different permutations to finally settle on the most likely one. Picture completion and anagrams help approach problem-solving from several angles. Do Sudoku, and memory co-relation activities and skills. Have a good night’s sleep, have a good breakfast of more proteins, meditate often, remain free of stress, eat a lot of fiber (whole grains, fruits and vegetables), nuts, avocado, eat dark chocolate, consume less of fat and use olive oil instead, do Yoga meditation exercises, etc. You need to check out if you are stronger visual or auditory. The visual is a better mode than the auditory. However, if you combine the two modes, you will get the best concentration. Have a special place of learning, which should be well lit, with soft painted walls, well-ventilated, with no distractions. When you get bored, study by writing. If you repeat learning, at least, five to seven times, you will apparently remember for a longer time. Sit comfortably but do not slouch. The reading material should be of a fairly large print. Study at small intervals of about 40 minutes and then take a break or change the subject. Short-term memory is a faculty of the left brain, and long-term memory is a feature of the right brain. When people are stressed, they tend to favor the right brain and abandon the left brain, where short-term memory resides. So, it is really very simple: deal with the stress and activate left brain functions. Here are a few suggestions to activate left brain function: shut your left nostril and breathe, move your eyes from right to left and vice versa for at least half a minute at a time, and do callisthenic exercises with some form of counting, regularly. There is a new exercise called Super Brain Yoga, which is done by holding the right earlobe with your left thumb and index finger, and the left earlobe with your right hand’s thumb and index finger. In this position, you must squat down and rise up and do this for five minutes every day. There is some memory enhancing techniques and study methods that your teacher will be able to guide you with. If your home life is full of distractions and stress, it is likely to affect your memory, adversely. In that case, I suggest that the family goes for counseling too. The following foods do help too: Blueberries, walnuts, turmeric, Spinach, tomatoes, broccoli, acorn squash, green tea, oily fish, boiled egg, turkey, apples, oatmeal, leafy greens, lentils, pumpkin seeds, avocado, cinnamon, thyme, sunflower seeds, and red wine. Avoid sugar and junk food. You may also include these noted foods that are good for your brain health: Brain-Friendly Foods MIND stands for Mediterranean-DASH Intervention for Neurodegenerative Delay. You require to consult a neurologist as well as a psychiatrist. The cause of imbalance and tightening has to be found out and then treated accordingly. I do not think physiotherapy will help.
