Homeopath,
Take salix nigra 30 thrice a day homeopathy is one of the most popular holistic systems of medicine. Homoeopathic medicine is mainly selected on the symptoms you give us. If we are to make a successful prescription, apart from the treatment through the remedies, a lot of counseling and appropriate diet regimen is required.

Doctor I cannot concentrate on my studies, when I sat for studies my mind diverts from it, & can't be able to score good marks, I am an engineer student Pls suggest me what to do.

Ph. D - Psychology, Professional Certified Coach
Psychologist, Ahmedabad
Concentration is a mental skill that you can develop. There are two ways to improve your concentration: first, raise your brain's natural ability to concentrate. In other words, increase your attention. Second, adjust the environment around you to make concentrating easier. To improve your concentration takes a little time and effort, but it can be worth it. In my personal experience with students. This can make noticeable improvement in a relatively short time. Ideas for daily concentration-boosting habits include: mindfulness meditation - many studies confirm that 20 minutes of meditation or more per day improves concentration and attention span. Focusing on your breathing, known as mindfulness meditation, is one of the simplest way of meditation. Start with ten minutes in the morning and ten minutes before bed. Proper sleep -i am sorry to say it. Pulling all nighter will not help with your grade. Unless you are getting sufficient restful sleep, you are not going to be as mentally focused as you could be. Brain game -. The more you use certain skills, the more they are reinforced in the brain. So it makes sense that playing concentration games and games that require you to focus will improve your concentration ability. You need to be consistent in this. Play for about 10 to 20 minutes each day. Have fun, and get the benefits but remember not to spend more than 20 minutes a day. Your goal is to improve your concentration and not the score in the game! eat healthier - your brain needs the proper nutrients to allow you to focus. Eat more vegetables and fruits and avoid consumption of junk food as much as possible. Lot of research has now proven that sugar is very harmful for our health. Reduce sugar and refined white floor in your diet as much as you could. Exercise is helpful in both reducing stress and increasing focus. At-least 20 minutes a day would go a long way. Optimize your mental state & environment in addition to building the habits described above into your daily routine, also adjust your environment and your current mental state to improve your concentration when studying. Create a study spot. Your brain loves routine. Create a place where all you do is study. An obvious choice is a secluded desk of some kind, but the trick is to make sure you only study in that spot. Studying in bed is a bad habit, for example, because your body is trained to want to sleep once you get into bed. Remove distractions. Turn off the ringer on your phone and take other steps to prevent interruptions. Don't study with the television on or with talk radio playing. Some studies have shown that soft instrumental music (no vocals) can help improve your concentration. Block background noises. If you have to study or work in an environment where it is too loud (classroom or open space) or too quiet (such as at home or at a library) you can get easily distracted by outside influences. With the right amount of background noise you can actually block out distractions and enhance your creative thinking. Use time boxes. Set a time limit when you need to study new material. For example, let's say you want to read one chapter in a book (and remember it). Decide in advance that you can have 45 minutes to read the chapter, and 15 minutes to review it. Set a timer to keep yourself honest, then pace yourself to keep within the allotted time. Stay motivated with rewards. If you see studying as burden, it's hard to concentrate. One way to stay motivated is to set up a reward system. Tell yourself you have to earn that hour of watching your favorite show later in the evening by first completing one hour of intense studying. That way, even if the material is dry, you have the reward to look forward to. Take a break every two hours. You mental energy will begin to decline after a long period of study. So every two hours or so, take a ten minute break. Walk around, eat a light snack, or just stare at the wall to relax your mind. Concentrating is the first step to learning anything new. It only makes sense that if you improve your concentration, your memory will improve also. Change the way of living, incorporate these things and see the better results. Wishing you very best,

Love is a mutual feeling, if she does not leave you, you have to leave the fascination for her and concentrate on your work till you find someone else, rather than waiting for her and brooding over the past. At 6 th standard mostly it is puppy love or infatuation. Time is the healer, if still you can not forget her consult a psychiatrist, he will be able to help you out. All the best.

Dear lybrate-user. Nausea is one of the most common symptoms of anxiety. Nearly everyone in the world can think back to a time when their nervousness made them feel sick to their stomach. It's an uncomfortable symptom that is extremely common when you're in nervous situations. Anxiety disorder treatment consists of cognitive behavioral therapy, life style changes, relaxation therapy and meditation. Once you learn how to manage your anxiety yourself with the help of the above treatment methods, you will be cured and you can stop the medicines if any. The process could take some time according to the depth of the problem and the circumstances at which the patient lives. Take care.

Dear lybrate-user, don't worry. Congratulations on quitting. You did a great thing. Your body has started its repair process immediately on your quitting smoking. You need to augment it with plenty of liquids, fruit juices and nutritious food. Physical exercise and sweating helps to clean the lungs from the nicotime residues. On an average it will take around one year to completely clear the lungs. In the meantime, do not smoke even a single cigarette. Take care.

Hello, take homoeopathic medication - schwabe's bacopa monierri 1x/ thrice daily and kali phos. 6x/ once at night - take them for 4 weeks. Management: there are few yoga poses which helps in calming your mind and relieves stress, but first learn these under a qualified yoga-teacher as many poses are prohibited in certain diseases or medical conditions! exercises: practice shavasana or corpse pose as it looks like a dead body. If practiced correctly and with full efforts, can relax every body part, relaxing not only the body but also the mind: spread the legs one to two feet apart, the toes are turned outwards, the heels facing each other, a comfortable distance apart. Bring the arms a little away from the body, palms turned upward. Relax the neck and allow it to turn to the side if it is more comfortable. Close the eyes and focus the attention on the body, breathing normally. Begin focusing each body part and relaxing it, then moving on. Keep the mind focused on relaxation, the breath should be normal. Relax the whole body. (the mind and body are deeply connected. If the mind is occupied by thoughts and worries then the shavasana will be unsuccessful. Therefore one has to acquire the stability of the mind along with the stability of the body.) anuloma involves inhaling through both nostrils together and exhaling each breath alternately between the left and right nostrils. The thumb of the right hand is used to manipulate the right nostril, while the pinky and ring finger are used to control the left nostril. There are many other poses of yoga like balasan, setu bandha sarvangasan, uttanasan, garudasan, savasana, triconasana, viprita karani, marjaryasana, dhyana, bhujangasana, anulom-vilum, pranayam, etc. Another stress-buster can be getting involved in any of your hobbies (may be a childhood hobby which you used to enjoy a lot!) - dancing, singing, painting, listening to soothing music, playing musical instruments, etc. (believe me, you would really enjoy doing this alone as well or may be with your friends, kids).

I am a 28 years old female and i'm addicted to smoke. Please help me prescribe some medications to quit smoke. I've been smoking for 9 years and I can't quit.

MBBS, MD - Psychiatry, MBA (Healthcare)
Psychiatrist, Davanagere
Hi there ~ start your stop smoking plan with start s = set a quit date. Choose a date within the next two weeks, so you have enough time to prepare without losing your motivation to quit. If you mainly smoke at work, quit on the weekend, so you have a few days to adjust to the change. T = tell family, friends, and co-workers that you plan to quit. Let your friends and family in on your plan to quit smoking and tell them you need their support and encouragement to stop. Look for a quit buddy who wants to stop smoking as well. You can help each other get through the rough times. A = anticipate and plan for the challenges you'll face while quitting. Most people who begin smoking again do so within the first three months. You can help yourself make it through by preparing ahead for common challenges, such as nicotine withdrawal and cigarette cravings. R = remove cigarettes and other tobacco products from your home, car, and work. Throw away all of your cigarettes (no emergency pack!), lighters, ashtrays, and matches. Wash your clothes and freshen up anything that smells like smoke. Shampoo your car, clean your drapes and carpet, and steam your furniture. T = talk to your doctor about getting help to quit. Your doctor can prescribe medication to help with withdrawal and suggest other alternatives. If you can't see a doctor, you can get many products over the counter at your local pharmacy or grocery store, including the nicotine patch, nicotine lozenges, and nicotine gum. I hope this helps. Take care and have a lovely day.

Hello and thanks for your query let me tell you that depression is not synonymous to day to day stress with which we deal. It is a diagnosis which needs to fulfil certain criteria to be labelled as major depressive disorder. Its symptoms are sadness of mood, loss of interest in routine activities, decreased or increased sleep/appetite, fatigue, guilt, suicidal thoughts. Depending upon the severity of depressive disorder, certain medications along with psychotherapy and relaxation exercises can help. I advise you to consult a psychiatrist for proper diagnosis and management. Hope it helps. Regards Dr. Gourav monga consultant psychiatrist.

Hello lybrate-user please go and consult Psychologist of your near by area .they will guide you properly and will show you the path for overcome with your depression. Depression is a term very often misused to describe unhappiness. Being depressed can be a very deep feeling of pain with no reason, where one feels imprisoned in a dark room. In order to learn how to overcome depression, one has to stop trying to find the cause for it. We get unhappy for various reasons in our daily life. It could be anything from small and simple to large and complex. It all depends on our own strength and weakness. Usually multiple reasons of unhappiness over a prolonged time leads to a Depression. In my opinion these are the simple ways to engage yourself at some positive work you love to do. 1. Set Goals Something special happens the moment the paper meets the pen and we write down our goals. Our brain chemistry changes, neurons fire, hormones are deployed, and we start thinking about how we can achieve those goals. 2. Sleep Getting the right amount of sleep is healthy for our body and mind. Some argue that sleep deprivation treats depression, but I don’t buy it. I think it’s a cheap distraction that catches up to you within days. Get enough rest. 3.Exercise If you’re physically capable, try one hour of cardio (or as much as you can). If you’re tee-shirt is soaking wet, you’re standing in a puddle of your own sweat, and you can feel the endorphins pumping through your body, you did it right. Shower up and try not being happy, I dare you. Exercise as an antidepressant The following exercise tips offer a powerful prescription for boosting mood: Exercise now… and again. A 10-minute walk can improve your mood for two hours. The key to sustaining mood benefits is to exercise regularly. Choose activities that are moderately intense. Aerobic exercise undoubtedly has mental health benefits, but you don't need to sweat strenuously to see results. Find exercises that are continuous and rhythmic (rather than intermittent. Walking, swimming, dancing, yoga, and cycling or stationery biking are good choices. Add a mind-body element. Activities such as yoga and tai chi rest your mind and increase your energy. You can also add a meditative element to walking or swimming by repeating a mantra (a word or phrase) as you move. Start slowly, and don't overdo it. More isn't better. Athletes who over train find their moods drop rather than lift. 4.Forgiveness Many times we’re making ourselves sad for no good reason at all. People have been known to keep grudges for lifetimes (most religions and nationalities keep them for generations). When you forgive, you remove this weight off your shoulders and put yourself in a position to be happier. 5.Gratitude Many times when we complain we can cause ourselves to be sad. Complaining is just a factor of not taking into account what we’re grateful for. Sit down and make a list of 100 things you’re grateful for right now (and I dare you not to feel better). 6.Sunlight Certain people have a disorder, in which, due to a lack of sunlight, they experience seasonal sadness. I’m somewhat affected by this in the winter when the days are shorter. That’s why it pays to grab your iPod (or your friend) and go for 30 minute walks each day and embrace the sunlight. 7.Hydration This has always been my downfall; I don’t drink enough and chances are you don’t either. Some days I drink only 1 cup of water, and I feel horrible. When I remember, and drink 2-3 liters, I’m happy as a kitten on cat-nip, and productive as a bat out of hell. 8.Friendships Your life force, support system, and everything that matters. It’s not hard to make friends if you put the time in. Everyone wants to be heard, appreciated, and loved. Start off by listening, appreciating and loving, and it will come back your way. And remember, it’s never too late to build new friendships and improve your support network. Turn to friends and family members who make you feel loved and cared for. .Spend time talking and listening face-to-face with trusted people and share what you’re going through. The people you talk to don’t have to be able to fix you; they just need to be good listeners. Ask for the help and support you need. You may have retreated from your most treasured relationships, but emotional connection can get you through this tough time. Try to keep up with social activities even if you don’t feel like it. Often when you’re depressed, it feels more comfortable to retreat into your shell, but being around other people will make you feel less depressed. Join a support group for depression. Being with others dealing with depression can go a long way in reducing your sense of isolation. You can also encourage each other, give and receive advice on how to cope, and share your experiences. 10 tips for reaching out and building friendships Talk to one person about your feelings Help someone else by volunteering Have lunch or coffee with a friend Ask a loved one to check in with you regularly Accompany someone to the movies, a concert, or a small get-together Call or email an old friend Go for a walk with a workout buddy Schedule a weekly dinner date Meet new people by taking a class or joining a club Confide in a clergy member, teacher, or sports coach 9.Reading Take a temporary leave from reality and bury yourself in one of your favorite books. A lot of wise people have been through what you’re going through and they made it through to the other side to tell about it. 10. Challenge negative thinking Depression puts a negative spin on everything, including the way you see yourself, the situations you encounter, and your expectations for the future. But you can’t break out of this pessimistic mind frame by “just thinking positive.” Happy thoughts or wishful thinking won’t cut it. Rather, the trick is to replace negative thoughts with more balanced thoughts. Ways to challenge negative thinking: Think outside yourself. Ask yourself if you’d say what you’re thinking about yourself to someone else. If not, stop being so hard on yourself. Think about less harsh statements that offer more realistic descriptions. Allow yourself to be less than perfect. Many depressed people are perfectionists, holding themselves to impossibly high standards and then beating themselves up when they fail to meet them. Battle this source of self-imposed stress by challenging your negative ways of thinking Socialize with positive people. Notice how people who always look on the bright side deal with challenges, even minor ones, like not being able to find a parking space. Then consider how you would react in the same situation. Even if you have to pretend, try to adopt their optimism and persistence in the face of difficulty. Keep a "negative thought log. Whenever you experience a negative thought, jot down the thought and what triggered it in a notebook. Review your log when you’re in a good mood. Consider if the negativity was truly warranted. Ask yourself if there’s another way to view the situation. For example, let’s say your boyfriend was short with you and you automatically assumed that the relationship was in trouble. It's possible, though, he’s just having a bad day. Thank you and have a nice day.

Dear lybrate user, welcome to lybrate. Anger and aggression are emotions and are related to psychological health rather than physical. Anger comes when you become irritated. Irritation happens when you don't like something, or when something is repeated. As anger is an emotion, it should be vent out. You should be able to throw anger out instead of controlling it. But more perfect will be, know the frustrating situations and stop being emotional. If practiced properly, you will not get irritated at those circumstances at all. Those techniques are much easier to understand. I suggest anger management therapy. Anyhow, there is nothing to worry. Most of the psychological problems can be cured with scientific therapy methods. Take care.

Hi doctor i am 31 year old bachelor going through depression and very small things getting irritated and blasting on to my parents and everyone who ever in front of me, don' t know what is wrong with me.Please do help

Reparenting Technique, BA, BEd
Psychologist, Bangalore
Your depression is anger related and this emotion, if not expressed turns inward causing the depression. Anger is energy and when this turns against you, it stifles the natural energy to make you feel tired, dull, listless and lethargic. If someone irritates you even slightly, you can easily flare-up. Then the vicious circle is for you to feel guilty and get angrier with yourself: more the depression. You must become active; stay upright during the daylight time; meet people; never sleep during the day, and wake up by 6 am every day, play some active games, especially contact games, do physical exercises, talk to people and join some social clubs, eat more of proteins and vegetables, attend yoga classes etc. Watch a lot of sitcoms on tv or comedies and cheer yourself up. Go for excursions in groups, for outings, camps, conferences, and religious conventions. Get a pet dog and spend time training it, exercising it and relating to it. Expose yourself to some sunlight every day, at least 30 minutes but not in the scotching heat. I hope you can find someone to love and be loved too. Whatever happens please incorporate these three important adaptations in your life: always be responsible, be respectful, and be functional. If you did these three things, lots of things will go well in life. Please pray and have faith in god to alleviate your sufferings. The bottom line is to deal with the anger. Do visit a counselor to help you and on that person? s recommendation you may visit a doctor too.
