I Am a pott spine tuberculosis patient treatment going since from 4 months and my daughter is 7months running now. As she is not at all taking my breastmilk from 1month she is crying a lot when iam making her to take my breast to give her feed but she is not at all taking please suggest me some trick so that she take my breast again as before because she is becoming thin by having only formula lactogen milk and cerelac.

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist, Mumbai
Once you have stopped feeding from last one month, there is very little milk secretion. She must have stopped feeding on you because either milk was very less or u must be giving her bottle milk. There are some galactogauges which can increase ur milk production. If still she is not taking then u can express ur milk in a bowl and feed her with the spoon

My son who is 14 years old has been running a few 10km races. He cycles 4 km everyday. He wants to participate in a 21 km run. He would be jogging and walking alternately (ie not running the entire 21 K). Is it safe for him to participate? Any precautions? Any inputs/ advice would be greatly valued. Thank you.

Is it compulsory to give all the vaccines to the children or the one's given by BMC in Mumbai are enough for a 2 month old baby ?

M.D.( Pediatrics), DCH
Pediatrician,
All vaccines are helpful in preventing diseases, in that sense they are preferred. BMC gives free vaccine which corporation can afford economically (by provision in budget). Rest many preparations available in the market are combination vaccines which invariably contain H.Infuenza B which is costlier hence not given by government hospitals. IPV, Rotviral, Peumococal and meningococal are more costly.Well if cost is no issue, they are all essential. It is better to give all . If it is an issue you have to discuss with local pediatrician. I personally advice IPV & HIB to most of patients. Rest is their discretion. Hope it helps.

Probably she has adenoids or allergic rhinitis, due to this reason she is mouth breather. By this age her milk teeth must have fallen. Dentist must require to put braces, and at the same time meta sprey nasal sprey may be required. If there are adenoids then she may require surgery.

5 Simple Ways To Avoid Diaper Rash For Your Baby

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Delhi
5 Simple Ways To Avoid Diaper Rash For Your Baby
Tips to prevent irritant diaper dermatitis (diaper rash)

A mother's prime focus always is how to ensure that her child is happy and comfortable, especially when the child is too small. One of the problems which bothers many mothers who are bringing up really small children, is diaper rash. Sensitive skin, tight diaper and prolonged contact with feces and urine etc are common reasons for diaper rash or irritant diaper dermatitis.

Here are few tips to avoid diaper rash and ensuring your child is always comfortable.

1. Careful with wash: if you are using a cloth diaper, be extra careful in washing such that there is no soap remaining in the cloth.

2. Clean well: when bathing your baby, make sure you clean the area covered by diaper with a mild soap and do not rub the area while drying, since the skin is sensitive.

3. Remove soiled diaper instantly: this is the most important. However busy you are, you need to aware of the times when the diaper/cloth has been soiled. And when soiled, the diaper has to be changed at the earliest. Do not keep your baby in the diaper for all hours of the day. It is good if they are out of the diaper for some time every day.

4. Keep the diaper loose. Also, ensure that you wash the cotton diapers with fabric softeners and try to avoid wipes altogether as they have strong chemicals in them.

5. Keep a tab on rashes: if your baby does get the rashes, check with the pediatrician at the earliest. Frequent topical applications of a bland protective barrier agent (zinc oxide paste) may suffice to prevent dermatitis. There are also chances of fungal infections. Antifungal creams should be used on advice of a doctor.

My nephew is 8 year old and he is diagnosed with Autism. He was diagnosed at the age of 3 years. At that time he was not able to stand on his own, avoids eye contacts, irritates and bites his own hand. He is now getting treatment from a Hakim in Muradnagar, Ghaziabad from last 3 years. He is now able to walk on his own but not able to speak or behave normally. He still bites his hand very often in anger. He wants to be alone but likes her parents company, now responds to her parents when they call him. Please help, if somebody knows the medicine or treatment of Autism.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Early diagnosis and treatment helps young children with autism develop to their full potential. The primary goal of treatment is to improve the overall ability of the child to function. Symptoms and behaviors of autism can combine in many ways and vary in severity. Also, individual symptoms and behaviors often change over time. For these reasons, treatment strategies are tailored to individual needs and available family resources. But in general children with autism respond best to highly structured and specialized treatment. A program that addresses helping parents and improving communication, social, behavioral, adaptive, and learning aspects of a child's life will be most successful. The american academy of pediatrics (aap) recommends the following strategies for helping a child to improve overall function and reach his or her potential: 6 behavioral training and managementbehavioral training and management. Behavioral training and management uses positive reinforcement, self-help, and social skills training to improve behavior and communication. Many types of treatments have been developed, including applied behavioral analysis (aba), treatment and education of autistic and related communication handicapped children (teacch), and sensory integration. Specialized therapies. These include speech, occupational, and physical therapy. These therapies are important components of managing autism and should all be included in various aspects of the child's treatment program. Speech therapy can help a child with autism improve language and social skills to communicate more effectively. Occupational and physical therapy can help improve any deficiencies in coordination and motor skills. Occupational therapy may also help a child with autism to learn to process information from the senses (sight, sound, hearing, touch, and smell) in more manageable ways. Medicinesmedicines. Medicines are most commonly used to treat related conditions and problem behaviors, including depression, anxiety, hyperactivity, and obsessive-compulsive behaviors. My son age 6 years high fever for 2 days with shivering sometimes is in cefuroxime and paracetamol 5ml three times a day also has cough. My question is how long we have to give this medicine to him.

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Tumkur
Most probably it's viral infection which usually lasts for 7-10 days. Fever may last for 3-5days. Give paracetamol 250mg whenever there is fever. Don't give cefuroxime.
