Vertigo and dizziness is a common problem especially after age of 40 years.
Most often patients do not know the cause of vertigo and so are on medications for years.
A common type of vertigo called positional vertigo is completely curable with vestibular rehab using very specific maneuvers. Also sometimes dizzy feeling can be confused with unsteadiness which may be due to decreased sensations or neuropathy in legs.
Others causes can be labyrinthitis or vestibular neuritis and many more.
Please see a proper evaluation and know the best technique suited for you so you can be active again and lead a functional life.

Looks like her respiratory system has been stressed. Any medications for the above problem will provide only a temporary relief. From your description it is very evident that the patient is constantly exposed to the factor" cold. Which could be food or drinks or climate. And until such exposure is avoided she will frequently fall prey to these complaints.

I have cold, running nose and itching throat. Wat to do?

Diploma in Otorhinolaryngology (DLO), MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist,
I have cold, running nose and itching throat. Wat to do?
Hello welcome to lybrate:) with the details you have provided it appears you have an infection in your nose and throat. Most probably it wil be a viral infection. But chances are there that it will be a bacterial one and will require antibiotics. Its rainy season. The following suggestions, you may find helpful 1. Steam inhalation 2. Decongestant drops to be put in nose before steam 3. Intake of plenty of warm fluids 4. Avoiding sun / dust / cold foods / spicy foods / oily foods 5. Salt water gargles for your throat 6. Some painkiller tablets to relieve pain if the symptoms don't recede within 2 days with above measures then probably it's a bacterial infection and then a doctor needs to examine you before instituting the right antibiotics. This presentation can also be seen in malaria, leptospirosis, dengue, h1n1, etc. Its better to be watchful and cautious. Be watchful for any 1. Giddiness 2. Red spots on body 3. Nasal bleeding 4. Thick tenacious sputum if coughing 5. Fever / headache / deliriums hope your query is answered. Take care.

What is the best solution for sinus?

MS - ENT(Gold Medalist), MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist,
Sinus problem occurs bcz of collection of pus in the sinuses due to improper or inadequate drainage of sinus due to blockage of drainage pathway that may be due to some mass or polyps in nose, septum deviation, allergic changes in nose. You need to take steroid spray and antihistaminics along with steam inhalation.

do you have pain on cheek bones on pressing it? hot fomentation is really helpful in sinus besides drink fluids, such as water or juice. This will help dilute mucous secretions and promote drainage. Avoid beverages that contain caffeine or alcohol, as they can be dehydrating. Drinking alcohol can also worsen the swelling of the lining of the sinuses and nose. Moisturize your sinus cavities. Drape a towel over your head as you breathe in the vapor from a bowl of medium-hot water. Keep the vapor directed toward your face. Or take a hot shower, breathing in the warm, moist air. This will help ease pain and help mucus drain. Apply warm compresses to your face. Place warm, damp towels around your nose, cheeks and eyes to ease facial pain. Rinse out your nasal passages. Use a specially designed squeeze bottle (sinus rinse, others), saline canister or neti pot to rinse your nasal passages. This home remedy, called nasal lavage, can help clear your sinuses. If you make your own rinse, use water that's contaminant-free distilled, sterile, previously boiled and cooled, or filtered using a filter with an absolute pore size of 1 micron or smaller to make up the irrigation solution. Also be sure to rinse the irrigation device after each use with contaminant-free water, and leave open to air-dry. Sleep with your head elevated. This will help your sinuses drain, reducing congestion. Do reply back for medication prescriptions. Being also a general physician and registered dietitian, I prescribe both evidence based herbal as well as allopathic medicines complementing with dietary guidelines and home remedies carefully personalized for each individual patient.

For the last 4-5 days she is suffering from mild fever, watery stool frequently (6-7 times a day). She is having ulcerative colitis and she withdrew from intaking steroids 5-6 days back. Is it related somehow?

Hello, My mother is 45 years old, Recently she was diagnosed with sinus tachycardia last week. She is at rest now. Fo...
Hi, I appreciate seeking help for your mother. Possibly an adrenal insufficiency and its associated symptoms, similar to the ones described in your question above, needs to be ruled out in your mother's case. Although steroids may not be the real cause that could have precipitated a sinus tachycardia, its good to have discontinued steroids for the time being. Its advisable that she be monitored closely now, and the case clinically examined by both an experienced endocrinologist, as well as a gastro-enterologist for further medical traction as deems appropriate. As regards her ulcerative colitis, try streamline her diet which should mostly comprise of softly cooked or steamed vegetables with less of oil, ghee, spices et al. The more bland the diet is, easily digestible will it be and the better it will be for your health/ recovery. Also, do consume well ripened fruits especially papaya & banana. Buttermilk and coconut water too are immensely valuable in this condition. Please note that banana and coconut water as advised above, be best avoided if her potassium levels are already high. Take plenty of water daily, and ensure that you get enough of bed rest, avoiding stress/ strain/ anxieties. Also, take care not to strain while passing stools. A light abdominal massage on a regular basis also helps. Hope this helps her. Do take care and all the very best.
