During that pain, just take 1 dose of homoeopathic lactic acid 200 and watch for half hour. If pain does not subside in half hour, tak 2nd dose of it. It will be definitely relieved with 45-50 mins. And use hard quill to sleep. Soft quill will damage your spine curvature which will lead to more pain.

Apply Hot Fomentation twice daily. Avoid bending in front. Postural Correction- Sit Tall, Walk Tall. Extension Exercises x 15 times x twice daily - lying on tummy, take left arm up for 3 seconds, then bring it down, right arm up for 3 seconds, bring down. Bring right leg up, hold for 3 seconds, bring it down. Then right leg up and hold for 3 seconds and bring it down. Repeat twice a day- 10 times. Bhujang Asana – Lie flat on your stomach, keeping the palms out, bend the neck backward, take a deep breath and while holding it for 6 seconds, raise the chest up. Release breath and relax your body. Repeat the exercise 15 times twice daily. Core Strengthening Exercises- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Back Stretching- lie flat, pull one of the knee forward to chest, hold for 3 seconds, then bring the other knee forward to the chest and again hold for 3 seconds. Then pull both knees towards the chest and hold for 3 seconds. Repeat 10 times each exercise twice a day. Do the cat/cow stretch. Get on all fours, with your arms straight and your hands directly under your shoulders; your knees hip-width apart.

Hi doctor. I have a severe backache as per Dr. Advice I have done mri. My mri report is as under kindly advise in matter degenerative lumber spondylitis are seen in the form of marginal osteophytes and multilevel disc dessication. 1. D12-l1 & l1-l2 discs show mild bulge, indenting anterior thecal sac without significant never root compression 2. L2-l3 disc reveals right paracentral disc extrusion, indenting anterior thecal sac and causing right lateral recess narrowing, impinging on right traversing l3 nerve root. 3. L3-l4 disc shows mild diffuse disc protrusion, indenting anterior thecal sac and causing bilateral mild neural foraminal narrowing, minimally abutting bilateraltraversing l4 nerve roots. 4. L4-l5 disc reveals mild diffuse disc protrusion, indenting anterior thecal sac and causing bilateral mild neural foraminal narrowing, minimally abutting right existing l4 nerve root-bilateral traversing l5 nerve roots. Nerve roots. Cord is seen ending at d11 vertebral level. Distal cord and conus appear normal. Both hip and si joints are normal. No pre / paravertebral, epidural soft tissue or haematoma is seen. Bilateral psoas and posterior paraspinous muscles are normal. Please advise for home exercise / medicine.?

I have been diagnosed with lumbar sacralization of l5. There is deep pain in left sacro iliac joint radiating to legs and hip. Both sides are involved. Left side is worse. Have history of 13-16 hr sitting at job for 4 years. Back muscles are very weak. Unable to stand for 5 mins even. Pain in both legs due to weakness. Unbearable pain since 8-9 months. Please help!

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Sacralization of l5 vertebrae is x ray finding and can be seen in many people. Si joint pains are also different from lower back pain although both can happen in same patient. I will actually need: 1) a detailed neurological (motor, sensory, deep tendon reflexes) charting done by a trained physical therapist 2) your mri images and reports in an attachment this will help us in determining the cause of your weakness and maybe pain. Also please get esr, crp, serum vitamin d tests empty stomach and send all reports across to me. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Avoid sitting cross legged. Avoid squatting- quadriceps exercises- lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core strengthening exercise- straight leg raised with toes turned outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day. Hams stretching- lie straight, take the leg up, pull the feet towards yourself, with a elastic tube or normal belt. Repeat 10 times, twice a day. Sports taping- stretch the tape from both ends and apply on the affected area contrast fomentation (hot and cold). Advice. Avoid sitting cross legged. Ankle stretching. Ankle strengthening exercises. Avoid squatting. Quadriceps exercises. Core strenthening exercises.

Please take following medicines:- leop. Bane 30 / 5 drops in one teaspoon of water three times a day for one week. Ruta 30 / 5 drops in one teaspoon of water three times a day for one week. Keep a 10 to 15 minutes gap in between these medicines. Revert back after one week with feedback.

I am 68 years of age with normal health otherwise. Wt 65 Kgs Ht. 5'2" I have lumber pain due to" Cervical spondylosis with posterior bulge of C5-C6 disc indenting the thecal sac and nerve roots" How to go about ; and what is the remedy for sustaining the pain?

Hello madam, the c5-c6 disc bulge that you have described in your mri usually causes neck pain which may radiate to your hands. Along with pain, you may also have numbness or tingling in your hands. Avoid lifting weights and jerky rides. Use a firm bed mattress with a medium sized pillow. Learn cervical stretch and strengthening exercises and start doing them. If pain does not subside you may consider a cervical epidural injection from a pain physician. Good luck.

Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. There could be many causes of rt sided abdominal pain and pain in lower back region. Abdominal pain could be due to visceral issue in abdomen for which it is advisable for you to kindly consult a general surgeon and if needed get a usg whole abdomen. For your lower back pain, there are many causes of pain in lower back region. It can be due to faulty posture, related to weak muscles, issues with intervertebral disc, narrowing of spinal canal, any bony instability besides many other, so accurate diagnosis is the key to proper management of the condition. You will have to elaborate your problem as to a detailed discussion of your back pain which means duration of pain and mode of onset. I would also like to ask you if it is associated with any leg pain or any other neurological symptoms like numbness, paraesthesias (electrical shock like abnormal sensations) or any weakness in limbs. Please also tell me about any associated symptoms like fever, weight loss etc. What medications you generally take and what has been your treatment history till now for existing problem. Hi I can understand your problem 1) avoid activities that make your symptoms worse 2) apply ice packs 3) start physiotherapy treatment as electrotherapy will reduce pain and inflammation 4) exercise and manual therapy will help in pain free movement. Correct posture is a simple but very important way to keep the many intricate structures in the back and spine healthy. It is much more than cosmetic - good posture and back support are critical to reducing the incidence and levels of back pain and neck pain. Back support is especially important for patients who spend many hours sitting in an office chair or standing throughout the day.
Not maintaining good posture and adequate back support can add strain to muscles and put stress on the spine. Over time, the stress of poor posture can change the anatomical characteristics of the spine, leading to the possibility of constricted blood vessels and nerves, as well as problems with muscles, discs, and joints. All of these can be major contributors to back and neck pain, as well as headaches, fatigue, and possibly even concerns with major organs and breathing.

Kindly show me a photograph of the affected part. Rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick matress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomantation. Paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do neck, back & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. You will need other supportive medicines also. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. If it does not give relief in 4-5days, contact me again. Do not ignore. It could be beginning of a serious problem.

Lastly a soft shoes or chappal. For couple of days to weeks. If no response seen either will refer to some one or do surgical excision if calcaneal spurs not amenable to conservative treatment. Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You should not be having persistent back pain, please elaborate your problem in detail as to whether there is any pain radiating down in legs and any other symptoms like numbness, paraesthesia, weakness in legs etc do you feel fever, weight loss, loss of apetite etc if you have localized back pain, you can start with - to maintain proper posture while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. Get back to me in case your symptoms do not get better in 2-3 weeks time. Actually I will advise for dynamic x rays of your back if you are not improving with conservative management after 2-3 weeks time. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.

Hello, send me your all investigation reports if it is available. Its probably due to lumbar intervertibral disc prolapse or due to heavy lifting or due to incorrect posture. Till then follow these advice to decrease pain and stiffness on your back - 1- avoid twisting and forward bending. 2- avoid heavy lifting. 3- avoid squatting position. 4- use western toilet. 5- wear shock absorbing, good quality of shoes while walking. 6. Keep roll of a towel under your knees while sleeping. 7. Perform some gentle exercises and stretching before getting out of your bed. Will explain you stiffness and pain reducing exercises in the next session. Wish you a happy and pain free life thanks.
