Don't ignore the early signs of strain injury like weakness of the grip, numbness, and pain or discomfort in the arms, hands, wrists or shoulders.

I am suffering from migraine for last 6-7 years. I am 19 years old. I have consulted to many doctors but the problem is still same. What should I do?

Migrane can be managed with lifestyle changes and medications, try muscle relaxation exercises. Relaxation may help ease the pain of a migraine headache. Get enough sleep, but don't oversleep. Get an adequate amount of sleep each night. It's best to go to bed and wake up at regular times, as well. Rest and relax. If possible, rest in a dark, quiet room when you feel a headache coming on. Place an ice pack wrapped in a cloth on the back of your neck and apply gentle pressure to painful areas on your scalp. It is very important keep a headache diary. Continue keeping your headache diary even after you see doctor. It will help you learn more about what triggers your migraines and what treatment is most effective. A dose of riboflavin in appropriate dose as prescribed by me, also may prevent migraines or reduce the frequency of headaches. Coenzyme q10 supplements may decrease the frequency of migraines, magnesium supplements may also be used to treat migraines do reply back for medication prescriptions. Being also a general physician and registered dietitian, I prescribe both evidence based herbal as well as allopathic medicines complementing with dietary guidelines and home remedies carefully personalized for each individual patient.

Migraine

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Ayurveda, Ghaziabad

A common neurological syndrome, Migraine is characterized by altered bodily perceptions, severe pounding headaches, nausea and irritability. This pounding or pain usually begins in the forehead, the side of the head or around the eyes and gradually gets worse. Bright lights or loud noises can worsen the condition. The headache can last for two hours or even up to two or three days.

Causes

Change in weather conditions, missing a meal, stress, alcohol and certain types of food items are considered to be common causative factors of Migraine. About 50% of women claim that their menstrual periods happen to be a significant trigger. Additionally, allergic reactions, exposure to loud noises or certain odors, smoking, or long exposures to computer screens/televisions could lead to Migraine attacks.

Symptoms

  • Nausea and vomiting

  • Headache

  • Irritability

  • Depression or euphoria

  • Fatigue

  • Excessive sleepiness

  • Craving for certain food items

  • Altered mood

  • Constipation or diarrhoea

  • Increased urination

  • Stiff muscles (especially in the neck)

Ayurvedic View

The traditional science of Ayurveda does not regard Migraine as a case of prolonged headaches. On the contrary, it considers this condition to be caused by deep-rooted problems, including a sensitive nervous system and impaired digestion.

Improper diet and lifestyle causes aggravation of Pitta (Ayurvedic humor representing Fire) in the body. In an aggravated state, Pitta impairs digestion, leading to production of digestive impurities (known as ama). This ama gets stored in the manovahi strotas (mind channels), thereby becoming the cause for pains in migraine.

A sensitive nervous system lowers the ojas (energy) in the body. Ojas is the essence of all body tissues and provides strength to the nervous system and body. If you have a strong nervous system, you are able to fight against problems and carry on with your work with a healthy mind. Lowering of ojas causes migraine-like problems.

Ayurvedic treatment of Migraine therefore is centered on the pacification of Pitta Dosha, and restoration of digestive function in the body. Nervine tonics are also recommended to enhance the ojas, relax the mind and give strength to the nervous system.

Diet & Lifestyle Advice

  • Avoid hot, spicy foods, fermented foods, white sugar, white flour products, and sour or citrus fruits, because they aggravate the Pitta in your body.

  • Drink more water and eat more fiber, fruits and vegetables, and whole grains.

  • Avoid excessive sugar or salt, refined foods, animal products (meats and dairy), caffeine, tea, and alcohol, as these items will further lead to aggravation of Pitta.

  • Avoid direct exposure to the sun, as migraine headaches are predominantly a Pitta disorder and can be triggered by the hot sun.

  • Head massage with Bhringraj Oil is also beneficial. This massage gives a calming effect to your nervous system.

  • Headaches caused due to tension and worry can be alleviated through deep breathing and relaxation, especially in a lying down position in a quiet place. Inverted postures, or those where the head is lowered briefly, increase oxygen to the brain and can reduce headache-causing strain.

Home Remedies

  • If there is a burning sensation with you migraine headache, apply a paste of ground clay or sandalwood powder mixed with rose water.

In case of migraine headache due to inflamed sinuses, inhale steam with vinegar added to the water.

  • Mix ¼ teaspoon of clove powder with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon oil. Apply this paste on the affected area for 20-30 minutes.

It's a good medication. No permanent treatment for epilepsy, few surgery are available, but done in resistant cases only. Needs assessment of seizure to clearly say that. If your seizure is controlled on medication then just continue medication, don't worry.

I'm 31 male, have measured 142/92 bp, taking migraine plus and homeopathy too. Now regularly bp coming 120/80 avg. Till how many days I have to take this medicine.

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
General Physician, Ghaziabad
Migraine plus tablet is not the drug to lower bp. U have not mentioned homeopathic medicine you are taking fr what reason. U should regularly check your bp for 3 days if consequtivly it is high than you need to be on medication. As your age is not much you require proper evaluation for having high bp. U should consult a physician in person and get investigated properly.

Dr. Shrey Bharal talks about managing migraine

Hello everyone my name is Dr. Shrey Bharal. I am a homeopathic physician. Today I am going to talk about migraine. Migraine is actually a headache disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of headache which can be from moderate to severe. Typically, it occurs in one part of your head either on left side or right side. Symptoms are nausea, vomiting, sensitive to light, smell or even sound. Any kind of or any type of physical or a mental activity aggravates it. It has been seen in most of the cases that it is once in families.

If your mother or grandmother is suffering from migraine then you are likely to have it. Migraine mostly affects women more than men. It is three times more common in women. Migraine can be well managed with the help of diet, exercise, as well as medication. Person who is having migraine should avoid junk food and oily food, avoid their sedentary habits and also take proper medication and rest. Migraine can be very well managed with the help of diet, exercise, as well as medication.

Homeopathy has been proved beneficial for migraine. Homeopathy reduces the frequency of attacks and hence giving relief to the patients. I would advise you to take homeopathic medications as well as treatment for migraine.
