Hello sir, I am facing a strange problem for last two months. I am getting mucous from throat on quite regular basis and having soar throat. I have taken lot of antibiotics and steroids but to no avail. Pls suggest. For your knowledge I have a celiac disease and have been on gluten free diet.

MS - ENT
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Delhi
Glutean allergy or any irritative lesion of the upper gi system leads to excessive salivation. This excess salivation collects and you get a feeling of mucous in throat. Steroids and antibiotics wont help much. Do regular gargles and mouth washes with plain luke warm water. You can try adding an anti acid to your medications. I would suggest you ask your gastro doctor and show him my reply.

Why tonsillitis problem occur in adults. What precautions should be taken after surgery of tonsillitis.

Diploma - Diploma - OLO - Rhino-Laryngology
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Chennai
Tonsils are normal lymphoid organs present in our mouth -oropharynx to safeguard our aerodigestive tract from infections which will normally regress in size in adolescence disappear in adults. If it present even in adults it represents chronic source of infection from nose, dental, oral tissues. It has to be evaluated first before you plan for tonsillectomy. Once the source of infection is no more tonsils will disappear.

You may consult a nearby ent specialist for upper airway assessment and endoscopy and if you have symptoms suggestive of obstructive sleep apnea also he may refer you to get a sleep study or polysomnography done then only some treatment can be started.

I feel tight throat after taking bupropion hydrochloride 150 mg extended release for generalised anxiety disorder. Please tell.

MBBS, MD (AIIMS, Gold Medalist), Diploma in CBT (Glasgow)
Psychiatrist, Delhi
Drink lots of water. Wait for 3-4 days and it should settle down. These kind of effects are seen in the initial few days of taking bupropion. In the unlikely event that the problems continue beyond a week, a change of medications may be needed.

Sir I ordered nose up for straight my nose because my nose is so broad .is this helpful or not plzzzz suggest me Thanks.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
This device may temporarily press your nasal tissue, but it will not create any long term durable difference in the shape of your nose. Rhinoplasty surgery is the best option if you would like to change your nose shape.

What's the Link Between Sinuses and Headaches?

MBBS, MS - ENT

What's the Link Between Sinuses and Headaches?

Link Between Sinuses and Headaches

Suffering from splitting headaches? The remedy to it can only be found once the cause behind it is identified. Everything from migraines to stomach infections can be the cause of your headaches. But it is not impossible to tell the difference between the different aches. You have to notice the other symptoms that accompany your headache to understand what is causing the pain.

Symptoms of sinus headaches

When you have the following problems along with your headache you can be sure it is being caused by your sinus:

- Pain in the head, face and nose
- Pain in the eyes
- Stuffy or blocked nose along with the pain
- Accompanying nasal allergies and bouts of sneezing
- Inability to smell

Understanding sinuses

The sinuses comprise of a rather sizable cavity present behind your cheekbones, bridge of your nose and forehead. Generally, the fluid in the region gets drained through the nose. But due to infection, allergic reactions and tumors the cavity can get blocked and also get inflamed. The inflammation is caused by an increase in mucus production, which can lead to the nasal cavity being blocked. The blockage stops the fluids from draining and the sinuses get even more inflamed. When the cavity gets inflamed it starts pressuring the cheekbones, nose bridge and forehead and eyes.

Why does it ache?

The building up of the pressure on the cheekbones, nose bridge and forehead causes the area to start hurting. Thus, when one has a headache originating from inflamed sinuses, the pain is not just isolated to the forehead. The pain in the nose is a sure shot sign that the headache is caused by the inflammation of the sinuses.

Not just another chronic ache

Most people mistake any chronic headache as a sinus problem. But mostly such aches are caused by migraines and stress. If you have a prolonged headache as well as fever you are sure to have a sinus ache instead of any other chronic headache.

Make it better

Once you have identified the headache as a sinus ache you can start the treatment. Steam inhalation helps clear the sinuses, reducing the pain almost immediately. If steam inhalation does not help, you might have a severe sinus infection. In such cases, it is best to visit a doctor to understand the extent of the infection. The doctor is likely to prescribe antibiotics for the remedy of the infection. Even if you are aware of what medicines to take for sinus infections it is best to get checked by a medical professional before you start popping pills since the headache might just be due to some other causes as well.

Hi lybrate-user If ypu have medicine for 30 days with no improvement it's surprising. Regular cold may be due to Allergies or due to decreased immunity repeated episodes of viral infection. *Steam inhalation  twice a day. *Have fruits 5 portions  every day  *A course of vitamin B complex and vitamin C to improve  immunity. *Avoid  allergic stimuli like dust, pollens. If you remain in AC room either ensure AC FILTER is cleaned every 2 weeks  or use a mask *Steroid nasal  sprays may be needed For a prolonged duration  Anti allergic  drugs may also be needed Investigation: CT PNS CBC, AEC, ESR, PPBS If you have done these tests you can share on Lybrate. I can help you better in that case. Also sharing what medicines you are having helps us help you better. Hope this helps.
