Hello everyone!

I am Dr Mansi Sanghvi. I am a founder and medical director of skin 360, skin, hair and laser clinic. We are located at Powai in Mumbai. I have been practicing as a Dermatologist and skin & hair expert over the last 10 years now.

Today I will be talking to you about one of the most common issues that today's young people face that is hair loss and balding and how to manage it. In today's corporate world hair has become one of the important assets of one's personality and managing the hair health has become extremely important. These days what most of the young patient present to us is with androgenetic alopecia, androgen means hormone, so hormonally induced hair loss is becoming very common in young people males and females are like. So what are the factors that cause hormonal imbalance, these are essentially the sedentary lifestyles, lack of exercise, imbalanced diet, irregular sleep patterns and undue stress over one's body. Therefore the treatment for hair loss and balding should start with reversing the factor that causes hormonal imbalance, this includes introduction of healthy lifestyle, change in sleep pattern and regularising it, eating the right food and working out on daily basis. In addition to this your Dermatologist can help you with certain supplements which correct the dietary deficiency, of course the doctor will do the blood test first before starting the treatment. Doctors will also ask you to apply certain lotion on the scalp which improves the quality of follicles and make it live longer so that the hair becomes to thicker and denser. In addition to this starting with certain advanced treatment really help to regain the lost hair much faster. These treatment include introduction of stem cells and growth factor into your scalp so how do we do this, these growth factors are injected with very fine needles on your scalp. It is absolutely painless and much comfortable treatment to undergo, doctor may suggest you couple of sessions depending upon how bad the case is. It would be done somewhere between one week to 15 days and it just requires about 10 minutes of your time. The 2nd line management is much advanced and it is very popular these days, it is called PRP which is called Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy. Now what is that, in this treatment we take about 10 to 15 ml of your blood and we centrifuge it to remove the platelets of your blood from it, now your platelets are very important for you because they carry the growth factor required for any tissue regeneration in your body. Here we are going to inject your platelets back in your scalp using fine needles to make the treatment much less discomforting what we do is that we apply the numbing cream on your scalp for half an hour which calms down the sensation so that when we do this treatment it's not painful to you. This treatment however requires about 45 minutes of your time, combining both these treatments together that is mesotherapy and PRP we have seen some wonderful results. Wherein we have helped the patient gain back about 30 to 35% of their lost hair back. Once the hair has been recovered it is absolutely important to maintain it. The maintenance of these hair follicles is in terms of eating the right nutrition applying certain lotions, at least two or three times a week the doctor will prescribe you and doing certain treatment every year to maintain the regain hair follicles. In very severe cases if the balding is very extensive we may suggest you to undergo hair transplantation. Which is done by the expert surgeon and it helps you to recover the lost hair which may help you to regain the lost hair and the lost confidence. I hope you have found this talk on hair loss and its management useful.

Hello, everyone

I am Dr Mansi Sanghvi, I am the founder and medical director of Skin 360...

Hello, I am Dr Mansi Sanghvi, I am the founder and medical director of Skin 360 Skin Hair and Laser Clinic, we are located at Pawai in Mumbai. I have been practicing as a Dermatologist and skin and hair expert over the last 10 years in Mumbai.

Today I will be talking to you about a very common health problem that today's youth faces and that is pimples, marks and scar management. Acne which is commonly known as pimples is no longer limited to the teenage. It is now happening more so in the adulthood and in adult life. Acne has been attacking people after they turn 22-23, so why is that happening, what is the cause of this type of acne?

The cause lies in the hormonal imbalance which is again multifactorial in origin; it could be related to stress, dietary changes, lack of sleep, sedentary lifestyle or simply using cosmetics which are not good for your health. Hormone imbalance clogs the pores which eventually leads to the pimples.

Pimples are of various types - it could be small black heads or white heads or it could be big puss filled pimples. How to manage it? Management starts at a simple baseline which is to use the right antibiotic cream which is prescribed by your dermatologist and to do certain simple treatments at the doctor's clinic. These treatments include chemical peels which are derived from fruit acids which help to exfoliate the excessive dead skin of your face and eventually leads to unclogging the pores, so that your skin can breathe and it reduces the pimples and inflammation.

If this approach does not work , we go to the second line of management, which is to give you oral antibiotics which help to reduce the bacteria that causes pimples. Once this antibiotic works , the inflammation goes down and then what we are left with is some marks to deal with. Now how the marks are treated, marks are treated with again chemical peels which are specifically derived from sugarcane and they are called glycolic acid which are famous these days. This peel reduces the pigmentation and concentration of melanin in your skin eventually giving you a better looking skin texture and colour.

The third issue that we need to deal is the scars that the acne leaves behind they are nothing but dark depressions on the skin, it is very important to treat them as early as possible otherwise they become a lifelong marks on your face. The scars are treated with technologies like laser resurfacing or a simple dermaroller which causes resurfacing of the scar or eventually much lesser appearing marks. To enumerate again, the treatment of pimples would include chemical peels, microdermabrasion which is commonly known as skin polishing, lasers to reduce the marks which are known as Q switch laser or scar resurfacing which is done with laser or dermaroller.

Now these treatments require few sessions which are timely intervals between 2 to 3 weeks, the whole treatment for pimples can last from 2 months to up to 6 months as well. The doctor upon examining your skin can precisely tell you what would be the approach of treatment ; in severe cases of pimples, we may probably want to start with hormonal treatment especially in women who are suffering with from polycystic ovaries. Using this combined approach for the treatment of pimples, the Dermatologist can help you by up to 70%, so why not hundred percent because the remaining 30% is in your own hand.

So what can you do to reduce your acne? First you invest into the right face wash which is pH balance , eat the right food which is taught to you by your grandpa and grandma, do regular exercises at least about half an hour everyday and indulge in activities which rejuvenate you , which could be learning some new music or going to Zumba class or going for swimming. Understand that everything is related to hormonal imbalance and which will only worsen with the stress in your body and you need to vent it out with recreation activities on a timely interval. So do the best possible in your own hand to improve the lifestyle and your quality of life and you should see the result in terms of your acne improvement along with the treatment that your doctor does for you.

I hope you have found this video useful, should you have any questions or any query or if you like to consult with me you may please do that using lybrate.com and book a consultation with me. Thank you very much.

Suffering From Acute Acne - How It Can Be Managed?

Suffering From Acute Acne - How It Can Be Managed?

The skin produces a natural oil known as sebum from the sebaceous glands. This acts as a protective layer and is passed out through the multiple, minute pores. With the teenage years seeing excessive hormones, excessive sebum is produced which clogs the pores, and the underlying sebum may not be released from the glands. In some cases, there could also be bacteria trapped in these acne. In severe cases, there can be extreme pain and pus formation. The acne can be quite large in size and may leave marks, which often take a long time to disappear.

Causes

Though acne affects any age group, it is most common in the teenage years and is attributed to the hormones called androgens. In women, there is also a hormonal correlation where acne is more common with menstrual cycles, pregnancy and polycystic ovaries – all conditions associated with increased hormone levels.

Management

Before heading out for medical help, the following are some tips to manage acne.

 1. Avoid touching it or picking it. Else it will result in a faster spreading of the infection to the surrounding areas.

 2. Use ice cubes on the acne as they help reduce redness and swelling by lowering the blood supply.

 3. Learn to keep calm as stress increases hormonal release and thereby acne.

 4. Do regular exercises. A good workout routine helps by keeping your skin clean and the pores open. There is a more frequent clearing of sebum leading to reduced acne.

 5. Maintain a healthy eating pattern. Avoid oily food items, which only add to the oiliness of the skin. Sugars again are proven to be harmful for acne.

 6. Follow a proper sleep routine as it will relax your muscles and keep you calm.

 7. Use mild detergents for washing pillow covers and towels, which are often used on the skin.

 8. Frequent washing, regular moisturizing, and exfoliating should be a part of your skin care routine. Avoid heavy chemicals and adhere to one regimen with as many natural substances as possible.

Medical Management

Medications would be required in more severe cases, where there is infection along with pain.

Topical products would include creams, gels or lotions with retinoids like tretinoin, tazarotene and adapalene. In some cases, topical antibiotics like clindamycin or erythromycin combined with benzoyl peroxide are used. Light therapy, laser resurfacing, dermabrasion, chemical peels and steroid injections can be used to remove acne scars, which may be very concerning cosmetically.

Very severe cases may require a systemic antibiotic course with doxycycline and minocycline. Birth control pills may be used in some to regulate hormonal levels.

Excessive Facial Hair - Laser Surgery To Get Rid Of Them!

Excessive Facial Hair - Laser Surgery To Get Rid Of Them!

Laser hair removal is a permanent hair removal method that makes use of laser beams to reach the hair follicles before the light from the beam is absorbed by the same. This method is preferred by people who do not want to go in for traditional methods like waxing, tweezing and epilating as these require regular sessions and may not always be convenient.

Laser surgery for facial hair removal helps your skin look younger and healthier by treating aging, acne, and blotches, scars, wrinkles, lines or excess hair on the face.

This surgery comes with its own share of benefits, which are:

 • First of all, laser hair removal is precise. The laser only targets the pigmented area of the skin on your face, such as the hair follicle. This is why only the hair follicle is burned and not the skin surrounding the area, making it a safe procedure.
 • Laser hair removal removes unwanted hair from your face at the speed of light. The laser is designed to treat several hairs in a large surface area, all at the same time. There is no downtime after the service and no sticky residue left behind.
 • The pain factor varies from person to person because every person has a different level of pain tolerance. Laser surgery is described as feeling like a gentle pinch or like the snap of a warm rubber band.
 • Laser hair removal is most effective on the hairs in the early part of the hair growing stage. A concentrated beam of light is aimed at the hair follicle. The laser then converts its energy into heat and heats up the hair follicle preventing it from growing any further.
 • Laser hair removal has many benefits that make it a viable option for many people to permanently deal with unwanted hair. You can ask many questions during your consultation to make sure you fully understand the procedure they use and how they deal with the treatment of pain.

Laser Hair Removal - Know The Procedure!

Unwanted hair is a major issue for many young people. Shaving or waxing the hair is tedious process, and can also be painful at times. Due to its many benefits, laser hair removal has become very popular amongst youngsters. In many cases, after three to eight sessions, permanent hair loss is observed. Recent years have seen an increase in the number of laser hair removal procedures performed.

What is the theory behind laser hair removal?
Laser technology is based on highly concentrated rays. These rays are concentrated on a specific part of your skin from where you wish to remove the hair. The highly concentrated light is directed to particular hair follicles in order to remove them. Although, permanent results or results that last a lifetime are never guaranteed, cases have been observed wherein after a few sessions, complete hair loss is observed.
Many types of laser removal procedures are available, among these, Neodymium YAG, diode, alexandrite, and intense pulsed light sources are well known.

Why should you choose laser hair removal?
Unwanted hair on your face, underarms, legs, arms or any other area can be easily removed using this procedure. Laser hair removal procedures offer you with a healthy and smooth skin free of unwanted hair. The laser used for hair removal target dark and bristly hairs without damaging the surrounding areas. Known for its speed, laser hair procedure has the ability to treat small areas in approximately one minute and less. These small areas include the upper lip region.

How long does it take?
Laser removal method is performed by skilled doctors. The doctors need to decide how many days and sittings will it take to get the procedure done depending upon the growth of hair in that specific area and also how much area of your skin is to be covered. Once the procedure is done, one may need to get it done in few years again depending upon the regrowth of hair on his/her body.

Laser hair treatment is effective and comparatively more efficient on people who have light skin and dark hair. Generally, laser hair surgeries are done to remove unwanted hair on back, face, chest, neck, bikini area, shoulders, upper lip, chin etc. For successful results, one should get this procedure performed from a skilled doctor. If not done properly, it will leave marks/scars and damage your body. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

7 Habits For Healthy Glowing Skin!

MBBS, DNB - Dermatology & Venereology

7 Habits For Healthy Glowing Skin!

A beautiful, glowing skin is something all of us desire. However, due to several conditions such as the sun, weather and other health complications, it is not very easy to maintain a glowing skin. There are several ways using which you will be able to get a healthy, radiant skin. Here is an everyday beauty regiment you must follow:

 1. Exfoliation: Without proper exfoliation, a dead skin cell layer forms on the skin surface, making it look dull and lifeless. By exfoliating, new skin cell development is encouraged. You can exfoliate your skin using moisturizers, toners and cleansers for making it glow naturally. Natural exfoliating agents such as oats, orange peel, lentil powder and Bengal gram are also considered effective.
 2. Detoxification: When the body gets overloaded with toxins, the skin is affected in certain ways. You must carry out detoxification by decreasing the amount of sugar and alcohol in your regular diet to get a soft and glowing skin.
 3. Nourishment: The skin requires proper nourishment with enough vitamins and minerals for a glowing appearance. Vitamin C acts as an antioxidant and repairs the skin from within, making it healthy. As a result, you get a soft, supple and glowing skin. Iron is also essential for the proper functioning of the antioxidants. Essential minerals and vitamins should be externally applied to the skin surface. The skin cells absorb these nutrients and as a result, you get a glowing complexion.
 4. DietDigestive problems cause skin impurities, and thus a proper diet is required for maintaining a healthy, radiant skin. You should consume food items such as nuts, fish, white meat, grains, brown rice and vegetables like tomato and broccoli for a glowing skin.
 5. Hydration: You must drink lots of water for proper flushing out of toxins and their elimination from your system. The skin cells get pumped, resulting in a fuller and glowing skin. You must consume more than 2 litres of water regularly.
 6. Proper sleep: The body requires seven to nine hours of regular sleep for overall rejuvenation and repair. Insufficient or interrupted sleep affects your body, and the skin gets affected as well. It loses its lustre and glow. Hence, proper sleep must be a part of your everyday regimen.
 7. Antioxidants: Natural antioxidants fight free radicals and give you a beautiful and radiant skin. You have to consume substances, which contain natural antioxidants like vitamin C and vitamin E. Damaged skin is repaired when you get enough antioxidants, giving it a glowing appearance.

You should try to keep away from stress as much as possible and undertake some form of physical activity regularly. Proper pimple and acne care is also necessary if you want to maintain a glowing skin. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!

Liposuction - How Can It Help You?

Liposuction - How Can It Help You?

Looking good and feeling good are sometimes one and the same thing which can be achieved with good skin and a fit body. One can turn to many measures to achieve the same, including cosmetic procedures. Cosmetic surgery like liposuction is generally used to remove the excess fat in the body which cannot be treated with normal exercise or diet control measures. This surgery is conducted by a plastic surgeon. Here is everything you need to know about liposuction.

About: Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure. It removes the excess fat present in one’s body with the help of a procedure known as body contouring. This kind of contouring may be carried out in various parts of the body including the calves, knees, buttocks, hips, abdomen, upper arms, breasts and even the neck and chin area. These are the areas that generally end up accumulating excessive fat which does not go away easily. For some people, persistent diet control and exercising may help. But for severe and chronic cases, one will have to make use of measures like liposuction.

Types of Liposuction: Depending on your case as well as the individual system of the patient, one can go in for one of the various types of liposuction. The fluid injection based liposuction is the most popular and common form where a large dose of medicated solution is injected with a local anaesthesia blended into it. This helps in contracting the blood vessels so that the fat can be suctioned out. The next type is the super wet liposuction where the amount of liquid solution injected is the same as the amount of fat that has to be removed. Ultrasound assisted liposuction uses ultrasonic waves in order to transform the fat cells into liquid which can be vacuumed out later. Further, laser assisted liposuction makes use of laser pulses and beams in order to make the fat cells liquid before they are vacuumed out of the system.

The procedure: The plastic surgeon will make use of a special liposuction machine and cannulas or special instruments, so that the surgery may be carried out in a proper manner. Also, depending on the type of procedure you are going in for, you will require local or general anaesthesia. A small incision is made so that the tube may be inserted for the liquefaction process to begin. After this, the fat that has been dislodged will be vacuumed away through the same suction tube. Small drainage tubes will be inserted to remove blood and fluid from the deflated areas and in some rare cases, blood transfusion or fluid replacement may also be required. High blood pressure and cardiovascular cases should not use this option. In case you have a concern or query you can always consult an expert & get answers to your questions!
