Dear lybrate-user, nerve block treatment is generally safe if performed by a qualified practitioner. Any treatment can have its side effects. You should ask your treating doctor to explain the procedure and its side effects to you. You should also ask your doctor any questions and doubts you have. Your doctor knows what is the procedure to be performed. To understand your problem in detail I would like t have your symptoms and reports in detail. You may consult me or have a second opinion by a qualified practitioner.

Iam 18 and very short in height. Will I grow more? Is there something that I could do to gain my height back? Please help me because now iam both short as well as overweight.

Iam 18 and very short in height. Will I grow more? Is there something that I could do to gain my height back? Please ...
As you are young and so there is still chances of gaining height. There are methods by which you can gain some centimetres of height. 1. The height of body is largely depend on the length of your spine (vertebral column or back bone in general language). So you have to add the exercise of stretching of spine daily in morning. Here are the exercises! * first stand straight bare foot on floor, then raise your arms upwards then raise your heels of foot with breathing in, try to stand on heels for 10-12 seconds and slowlylower down your heels back on the floor and breath outthe air. Repeat this exercise 5-8 times in morning. *sit on the floor, stretch you legs together so that both foot touch each other. Now raise your arms upwards together with back straight, now move your hands towardstoes of feet and touch them. Your forehead touching your knees. Slowly revert back the arms and move back arms in normal position. Repeat this exercise 2-4 times daily. You can privately consult me for understanding more exercises. 2. Bone growth depends upon the adequate intake of calcium rich diet. So take 300 ml of rich cream milk, 200 gm of cheese and 2-3 eggs regularly. It will definitely give boost to your bone growth. 3. Vitamin d play very important role in bone growth. So sit in sun rays for atleast 8-10 minutes in morning of evenings when the sun rays are notso strong. 4. The growth and height is controlled by growth hormone which is secreted by pituitary gland situated in the brain. So take meditation and have a stressfree lifestyle. Take 6-8 hours of sleep daily. For meditation, listen toslow and spiritual music, take long breaths for 15-20 minutes everyday. It makes your pituitatry gland healthy and working properly. You can consult me privately for doubts and more detailed treatment.

I am 27 year female because of irregular period I am becoming fat I what to reduce the weight.
1) there is no other way of reducing weight except by consuming less calories. 2) deep fried, processed foods, pickles, papads, pastries, biscuits, nuts, chocolates, ice creams, deserts should be completely avoided. 3) during business meetings go for plain rice with thin dals and lots of salads. 4) dinner should be taken as early as possible 5) simple sugars, nuts, dry fruits (except almonds and walnuts) should be restricted. 6) small frequent meals (containing high fibre, low fat, moderate to low carbohydrates, moderate proteins, normal vitamins and minerals) with regular exercise is beneficial. 7) begin your meal with a big bowl of salad or soups. 8) drink plenty of water. 9) do not skip meals 10) prefer roasted /grilled /steamed/boiled food items. 11) tea consumption should be reduced. Replace tea with organic green tea. Do not have tea along with any meal. 12) consumption of full cream milk will increase fat percentage so skimmed milk is a good option. Have 2 cups of ecovalley green tea daily.

Hello sir, I am 25 years old. Please suggest me some home remedies to reduce belly fat ?

Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS), MD - Ayurveda
Ayurveda, Mumbai
Your friend has a decent bmi of 24.3 which means she is not obese. The problem appears to be loose fat on the belly which is normally seen in people who have familial tendency and indulge in binge eating. This fat also in future can get associated with the risk of developing diabetes. It seems that your friend is fairly health concious. My tip would be to avoid drinking water post meals (ayurveda) and have a ginger 1/2 cm, fenugreek 2 grains and jaggery (500 mg) before meals. It is advisable for her to conduct exercises like situps, crunches, leg raises and planks. Available on youtube and google. Best of luck.

Thank you for writing to us. Please note the following for your condition: • Avoid big meals late in the evening. You need three to four hours to digest a big meal. • Spicy or sugary food, even at suppertime, is usually a bad idea. Spices can irritate your stomach, and when it tosses and turns, so will you. Having a lot of sugary food—especially chocolate, which contains caffeine—can make you feel jumpy.

Remember there are some tabs which help to regularize period but they don't help in fact prevent pregnancy. So if you are ready to have baby now tell your gynaecologist so with focus on that treatment is given. Thyroid is another problem which need to be treated properly, check its level again to confirm proper dose. You need to meet gynaecologist only to regularize periods but for planning pregnancy you will have to consult many times in a month.

8 Botox Myths Debunked - Know The Facts!

8 Botox Myths Debunked - Know The Facts!

Botox is a wrinkle treatment, but is used for treating a range of medical conditions. It has been in use for well over 18 years and is considered to be safe when performed under the guidance of a medical practitioner. Apart from aesthetics, a range of other facial, migraine and dermatological problems can be addressed by Botox.

Myth #1 Botox limits facial expression: The primary objective of a Botox treatment is to enhance the look of a person and not the contrary. When administered by a skilled physician, you can still smile and animate like before. Botox in no way affects the sensory nerve. The muscle beneath the point of injection gets relaxed and remains active. The apprehension of limited facial activity is baseless.

Myth #2 Botox travel through your body: This again is a myth. Botox diffuses not more than 1cm into the skin. Due to its localized nature, it does not affect any other parts of the body other than the intended area.

Myth #3 Botox has toxic content: Botox, like any other drug, is safe when taken under supervision. Like other drugs, it too gets scanned by the drug regulatory authorities. It is neither dangerous nor contains any toxic substance.

Myth #4 Dermal fillers involve intense pain: Dermal fillers are not as painful as advocated by many people out there. It does have its fair share of discomfort but a medical practitioner always uses a topical anesthetic and other anxiety related medications during the treatment.

Myth #5 Downtime for Botox is fairly long: Botox is known as the afternoon injection for its convenience and easy procedure. Botox procedure has no downtime at all. Doctors often suggest against lying down for a good 2-3 hours after the injection. Dermal fillers might result in minor swelling but there are medicines to counter that too.

Myth #6 Botox is permanent in nature: Botox effects lasts for 4-6months. For people who take Botox shots regularly, it tends to last longer.

Myth #7 Dermal fillers and Botox are the same: While people these days use them interchangeably, they are not the same. For instance, Botox lessens the effect of wrinkles by relaxing the facial muscle whereas dermal fillers add volume to the tissue and restores the muscle.

Myth #8 Botox is applied only when Facial lines are visible: This is not necessarily true. If the family of an individual has a history of facial lines, it makes sense to start Botox for facial line prevention. This delays the actual facial line appearance and requires fewer Botox shots going forward.

Diabetes and exercise: When to monitor your blood sugar

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
Diabetes and exercise: When to monitor your blood sugar
Diabetes and exercise: When to monitor your blood sugar

Diabetes and exercise go hand in hand, at least when it comes to managing your diabetes. Exercise can help you improve your blood sugar control, as well as boost your overall fitness and reduce your risk of heart disease and stroke.

But diabetes and exercise pose unique challenges, too. Remember to track your blood sugar before, during and after exercise. Your records will reveal how your body responds to exercise ? and help you prevent potentially dangerous blood sugar fluctuations.

Before exercise: Check your blood sugar before your workout

Before jumping into a fitness program, get your doctor's OK to exercise ? especially if you've been inactive. Discuss with your doctor which activities you're contemplating and the best time to exercise, as well as the potential impact of medications on your blood sugar as you become more active.

For the best health benefits, experts recommend 150 minutes a week of moderately intense physical activities such as:

Fast walking
Lap swimming
Bicycling

If you're taking insulin or medications that can cause low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), test your blood sugar 30 minutes before exercising and approximately every 30 minutes during exercise. This will help you determine if your blood sugar level is stable, rising or falling and if it's safe to keep exercising.

Consider these general guidelines relative to your blood sugar level ? measured in milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) or millimoles per liter (mmol/L).

Lower than 100 mg/dL (5.6 mmol/L). Your blood sugar may be too low to exercise safely. Eat a small carbohydrate-containing snack, such as fruit or crackers, before you begin your workout.

100 to 250 mg/dL (5.6 to 13.9 mmol/L). You're good to go. For most people, this is a safe pre-exercise blood sugar range.

250 mg/dL (13.9 mmol/L) or higher. This is a caution zone. Before exercising, test your urine for ketones ? substances made when your body breaks down fat for energy. Excess ketones indicate that your body doesn't have enough insulin to control your blood sugar. If you exercise when you have a high level of ketones, you risk ketoacidosis ? a serious complication of diabetes that needs immediate treatment. Instead, wait to exercise until your test kit indicates absence or a low level of ketones in your urine.

300 mg/dL (16.7 mmol/L) or higher. Your blood sugar may be too high to exercise safely, as these high glucose levels may increase your risk of dehydration and ketoacidosis. Postpone your workout until your blood sugar drops to a safe pre-exercise range.

Hello lybrate-user. At age of 21, no medicine can increase height. This is fact. But few changes in your life style and food habit may work for u. I am listing here some 1. Have plenty amount of water 2. Increase amount of protein in your diet- egg, soyabean, paneer etc 3. Most important is. Do regular surya namaskar yoga and strtching excercise. 4 if you can add basketball sport in your routine life, that would be very helpful. Good luck

I am 46 years old man and last 4 days I am suffering back pain I drink regularly now what should I do?

Dip. SICOT (Belgium), MNAMS, DNB (Orthopedics), MBBS
Orthopedist, Delhi
Hi thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. Since your history is only 4 days duration: my advice is: - to maintain proper posture while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication which suits you ( but avoid drinking when you have taken medication), also you can add a muscle relaxant for 5 days to relieve muscle spasm. - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home ( no exercises, only modalities initially, once your pain subsides, then we can start with gentle back strengthening ex) - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs for local application ( 3-4 times in a day) - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings and traveling on uneven surfaces especially on 2 wheelers take rest for 3-5 days so that pain and muscle spasm decreases. Do not hesitate to contact me if you need any further assistance.
