Gynaecologist,
I have periods problem what should I do ?
Irregular periods at this age is most commonly due to hormonal problems and pco or anovulation. I would advice you to get a few blood tests done. Fsh lh tsh prolactin and a pelvic usg. If normal consider hormonal pills to regularise your period. If overweight try to reduce weight.

My wife has problems in period time every month the date gets behind and whenever she is on period her full back pains upto the legs please advice.

MD - Ayurveda, Bachelor of Ayurveda, Medicine and Surgery (BAMS)
Ayurveda, Bangalore
Dear , does dates get behind' mean early menstruation? early menstruation like once in 15-25 days, indicates the increased metabolic rate of the individual. And severe pain indicates the level of weakness. On a general note, it is advisable to avoid hot and spicy food like curries, pickles, papad, chillies, deep fried foods, junk foods, heavy foods. Take milk, ghee, methi, buttermilk, raisins. Ayurveda helps to improve your condition with very good treatments.

For prolapse she need to wear corset or do surgery and ortho will be able to guide her based on her condition. For hysterectomy she may need hormone replacement if the part of ovaries is not kept. This only the surgeon who did operation can tell.

We have one baby and she was born after c section. Now my wife is pregnant and I want to know will it be normal delivery or we have to go for c section again.

It is quite possible. As long as you're an appropriate candidate for a vaginal birth after a cesarean, also known as a vbac, there's a good chance you'll succeed. Of course, your chances of success are higher if the reason for your prior c-section isn't likely to be an issue this time around. For example, a woman who has already had an easy vaginal delivery and then had a c-section when her next baby was breech is much more likely to have a successful vbac than one who had a c-section after being fully dilated and pushing for three hours with her first baby who was small and properly positioned.

Hello, You re 36 years old so you ovarian reserve is on a diminishing stage, this means you may have poor quality eggs. Since you are planning to conceive, I would suggest IVF with egg donor before it's too late.

My daughter is now in 8th month pregnancy. Her fasting sugar is 85 mg/dl, and 135 mg/dl after 2 hours of eating. Is it dangerous condition.

Ideal sugar level during pregnancy should be maintained between 90 - 120 mg through out the day. Hence, 135 mg after food is high. Is she on any treatment? if not then she must start on minimal dosage of insulin (4 - 6 units a day) and bring the levels below 120 mg. In pregnancy high sugar is dangerous for the fetus as it may trigger macrosomia (large baby).

As you asked me to use the minoxidil lotion. Can female also use this. And what are the other medicines should I use? Please clear my doubt.

Diploma in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, MBBS

As you asked me to use the minoxidil lotion. Can female also use this. And what are the other medicines should I use?...
Someone must have advised you to use minoxidil, yes females can use 2% solution and males 5%. One of the side effects is hair fall! it takes months for new follicles to grow. I can suggest some home remedies to strengthen the follicles- 1) apply curd on scalp, leave it for 1 hour, wash with shampoo. 2) vinegar on scalp like curd does help 3) so does lemon juice for oily hair but why should a healthy woman shed more hair at 25? get thyroid tested, wash with ketoconazole shampoo easily available over the counter, in case there is some fungal infection on scalp. Was hair daily after using on scalp- coconut oil overnight. Do not wash hair once or twice a week, we are living in a hot country and we need to take care of scalp which is also a part of entire face. Eat a high protein and calcium rich diet.

Super Fact of the Day: You can taste food, only when your saliva dissolves it!
In order for you to be able to taste food, or anything else, the chemicals from the substance must be dissolved by saliva. Try drying your tongue off before tasting something, if you don’t believe it.

That is completely false information, you will never get pregnant with sex on 3rd day. To get pregnant you need to have regular sex i. E. 3-4 times a week for one full year before you start seeking medical help. If you want to make her pregnant fast then you can follow this calender method. If a women’s menstrual cycle varies from 26days to 31days cycle, The shortest cycle (26 days) minus 18 days = 8th day. The longest cycle (31 days) minus 10 days=21st day Thus, 8th to 21st day of each cycle counting from first day of menstrual period is considered as fertile period.

5 Shocking Things Contraceptive Pills Can Do To You

MD - Obstetrtics & Gynaecology
Gynaecologist,
5 Shocking Things Contraceptive Pills Can Do To You

5 Shocking things contraceptive pills can do to you

Around 150 million women worldwide take birth control pills on a regular basis. However, most of them are unaware of the side-effects these pills can have on their health. Read on to find out how your birth control pill is harming you!

1. It may cause inconsistency in your menstrual cycle

You might miss your periods under the prescription of these pills. They can also decrease the flow during your periods and can cause alterations in your menstrual cycle, resulting in either more or less frequent periods.

2. It may also trigger false premenstrual syndrome symptoms

When you first start taking birth control pills you may suffer PMS symptoms like headaches, breast tenderness, water retention, mood swings, intolerable pain and even nausea. Usually these are false alarms, and have nothing to do with PMS whatsoever.

3. It may decrease your libido

The hormones present in a contraceptive pill can affect your sex drive or libido. A 2010 study, published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, tested 1,086 women who took contraceptives regularly and found out that 32.4% of them were at high risk of developing female sexual dysfunction.

4. It may lead to multiple aches and pains

Birth control pills may result in various aches like abdominal or stomach pains, chest pains, and headaches. It can even cause eye problems such as blurred vision or changes in power and swelling in your legs.

5. It may increase the risk of breast cancer

Although the pill has been proven to decrease the risk of ovarian, colon and endometrial cancer; it can increase your chances of suffering from breast cancer. A Scandinavian study showed that the longer women were on the pill, the higher their chances became of being diagnosed with this deadly disease. However, the relation between the two is yet to be established.

To avert such possible health risks of oral contraception you can consider birth control alternatives like male or female condoms, vaginal diaphragm, cervical cap and spermicidal cream or jelly. These alternatives are highly effective as well as safe in controlling and preventing unplanned pregnancies.
