My daughter aged 14 years is suffering from celiac disease (glutin sensitive). We could detect it only 2 years ago. We are taking ultimate care and now she has started showing improvement in weight and height gain. I request for expert views on this disease like whether she would ever be able to consume glutin products in future and what type of precautions we should take in respect of her growth particularily at this age.

Gluten sensitivity is life long, so no need to experiment. Stick to gluten free diet forever. Keep on giving her vitamin and mineral supplements as such patients are likely to develop deficiency of these avoid constipation by taking lots of fruits and vegetables drink plenty of water.

I can't sleep mode from last few nights. I have tried many of medicine but they did not working well. What should be do I? Pls suggest me.

Causes of lack of sleep: • stress • Anxiety • Depression • Pain • irregular schedule of sleep such as sleeping during day time & working during nights. • Excess intake of alcohol, caffeine (tea, coffee) • Due to drugs, Due to high blood pressure. • Aging Due to lack of sleep there are many complications arise such as lack of concentration, irritability, fatigue. So these are some instructions & methods for good sleep: • Frequent oil massage of head with oil relax your mind and enhances sleep. You can also do foot massage daily it destress you. • Do not take stress. Do meditation and long breathing pranayams to relax the mind. • Do not take caffeine, tea & alcohol in excess and these are stimulant,(activate) your brain result in lack of sleep. • Avoid drinking alcohol & smoking. • Avoid sleep during day time as it makes it harder to fall asleep at night. •Try to sleep early at night. Do not think during sleep. Do exercise and long walk daily. • Avoid to take sleeping pills because these are habit forming drugs and these drugs disturb your normal sleep pattern. • Take a bowl of curd daily in afternoon and one glass of milk at night daily.

My mother 68 years old ,fallen from 3 feet height chair, had ortho consultation confirmed that no fracture ,but severe injury ,advised to take bed rest for 10 days ,prescribed only NSAID, also advice for hot fermentation. Am a 20 year old male, am suffering from abdominal pain since last day, paim is felt over my right side of abdomen and am not able to sit and walk. Pain is getting increasing in severity. On touching that region pain is very severe. Am having mild fever also. So I took a paracetamol and the pain get little bit relieved bt again it is coming.

8 Simple Tips For Safe And Happy Diwali ..................

Eat healthy::
Diwali is a time when people gorge on sweets and put on weight which in turn affects their health. To make this Diwali a healthy one, replace the ghee-laden deserts and sweets with a healthier alternative like fruits and low calorie sweets. You can also have some dry fruits like almonds, raisins or dates for desert, eat home-made sweets like kheer, shrikhand, etc. It is also important to snack wisely during this time as most people end up overeating. So, eat wisely and remember, just because it is a festival, there is no need to ditch your diet.

Stay hydrated:
With delicious foods all around, its obvious that we are tempted. But keeping ourselves hydrated is one of the best and effective tip to prevent after-festival health problems. A simple way to achieve this is to frequently sip water and be hydrated. In addition to cleansing waste materials from the body, staying hydrated also helps satiate your hunger pangs.

Stay away from artificial sweets:
It is advised to stay away from artificial sweeteners that contain aspartame as they are reported to cause brain tumour or cancer. In addition to this, using chemical preservatives in sweets also puts you at a higher risk of kidney or liver damage, asthma and cancer. So this Diwali, opt for sweets that are made from sugar or other healthy alternatives like jaggery and live a healthy life.

Take care of your health:
People suffering from diabetes need to be extra cautious during Diwali as they are surrounded with plenty of sweets. Apart from restricting their consumption of sweets, these people are advised to keep a check on sugar and starch intake. Also, the bursting sound and smoke liberated from crackers might cause health issues in old people and those suffering from lung problems.

Drink in moderation:
Although Diwali signifies celebration and enjoyment, it is better if you limit your alcohol intake. Excess alcohol not only causes dehydration, gives you a hangover and makes you look tired, but it also increases the risk of accidents on the auspicious day. It’s best to avoid alcohol during Diwali and instead opt for some fresh fruit juices and soups.

Keep a first aid kit handy:
With crackers and fireworks everywhere, there are chances that someone might experience health issues. Hence, it is recommended that people keep a first aid kit that includes inhalers, eye drops and creams to treat burns are very handy during this time as they may help prevent major complications in case of an eventuality.

Wear earplugs or masks:
The bustling sound of crackers might damage ear drums in some people and also cause increased heart rate in old people and those with cardiac problems. To avoid such health issues, people are recommended to wear earplugs as exposure to loud sounds during this festival is unavoidable. Also, people who have lung problems like COPD or asthma might suffer from breathlessness due to the smoke. Such patients are advised to use masks especially while going out.

Other safety tips:
Apart from the above listed health tips for a safe Diwali, other precautions include not wearing clothes made from nylon or terrycot (as they are inflammable). Sweets especially those made from perishable items like milk or khoya should be avoided as they tend to cause food poisoning if had later than its expiry date.

I have fever since yesterday morning. I thought its a viral fever and taken Paracetamol - 500 mg in the morning and then in the night. The fever persisted today also and I again took the same medicine. But still I have fever of 100.6 F. What should I do now?

Follow health advises given below: 1. Avoid exertion 2. Take tablet paracetamol 500 mg after food (if no drug allergy) as and when required for fever more than 99 f (maximum 3 tablets with gap of 8 hr can be taken in a day) for 3 days 3. Lot of fluids to be taken 4. Take proper diet homemade food like moong dal dalia, chapati etc. 4. Avoid wearing synthetic and tight cloths. Other medications can be started after proper evaluation.

KIndly avoid medicines/ supplements for weight loss. Try these natural weight loss tips: 1. Have small frequent meals at 2-3 hrs interval instead of 3-4 large meals only 2. Drink 2-3 litres water daily 3. Avoid junk, fried, processed, preserved, sugary foods & drinks, alcohol. 4. Replace simple carbs (sugar, jaggery, honey, maida, sago, cornflour, arrowroot flour, potato, biscuit, cake, white rice, white bread) with complex carbs (whole fruits, vegetables, salads, whole grains-atta, dalia, suji, oats, millets, barley, brown rice, atta bread, quinoa, whole legumes-sprouts, soyabean, pseudo cereals-rajgira, makhana, & nuts, oilseeds). 5. It is a vaat disorder, means problem caused by vayu aggravation. You must hv a vaat pacifying diet and life style bcs its not too late. +warm food, moderately heavy textures, added butter and fat. +salt, sour, and sweet tastes; soothing and satisfying foods. +all soothing foods are good for settling disturbed vata. Use foods such as: warm milk, cream, butter, warm soups, stews, hot cereals, fresh baked bread. Since vata is a cold dry dosha, warm, nourishing foods such as these are good for stabilizing vata. On the other hand cold foods such as cold salads, iced drinks, raw vegetables and greens are not very good for persons with vata imbalance. +breakfast is highly recommended. Use hot cereals such as cream of rice or wheat or any other breakfast that is warm, milky, and sweet. +take a hot or herbal tea with snacks in the late afternoon. Avoid drinks with high caffeine as vata gets disturbed by it. +use spicy foods such as spicy mexican or indian foods that are cooked in oil. +use warm moist foods such as cooked grains and cereals, bowl of hot oatmeal or cup of steaming vegetable soup. +warm milk is good. You can add a little sugar or honey to it if you prefer. Avoid eating candies as it disturbs vata. +prefer salted nuts that are heavy and oily as opposed to dry salty snacks. +all sweet fruits are ok for vata. Avoid unripe fruits as they are astringent +take warm or hot water instead of ice water and drinks. +summary: breakfast is usually desirable. Hot foods and sweet and sour tastes. Reduce dry foods and bitter tastes. Warm or hot water and drinks. Raw nuts and nut butters. Spices: cinnamon, cardamom, cumin, ginger, cloves in moderation.

Hi I am a 19 year boy. I am travelling 200 km daily to college up&down. Did it affect my health? What I can do to get a mass body and good strength?

Yes it can affect your health. The first thing you have to do is to develop a positive attitude towards your goal. You need to understand that transforming your physique is going to take a lot of time. These things don't work that easily. It's going to take a lot of hard work and consistency 1. Start exercising. Start working out if you are not active. Begin with body weight exercises like push up, pull up and squats. Weight training proves to be really helpful if you want to gain good quality weight. Train each body part twice a week. For example: Monday/Thursday: Chest + Triceps Tuesday/Friday: Back + Biceps Wednesday/Saturday: Legs + Shoulders Don't forget to warm up for at least 10 - 15 minutes. Warm up includes jumping, rope skipping, treadmill, cycling, stair climbing, etc. 2. Eat Healthy. Stop drinking and smoking too much if you are indulged in it. Limit your intake of junk food and any form of sugar. Do not at all starve yourself. Make it a habit to eat something healthy every 2 - 3 hours. Some of the recommended food items are boiled chicken and eggs, brown rice, brown bread, peanut butter, olive oil (extra virgin), green tea, dry fruits etc. 3. Consume good amount of fruits and vegetables. Bananas, apples, pomegranate, green leafy vegetables. Fruits and vegetables helps in absorption of food in the body and together, completes your daily nutrition need. 4. Eat whole grains. Try to have multi grains spread throughout the day. Wheat, brown rice, oats are best sources of healthy carbohydrates but do not include these items in your dinner. 5. Increase protein intake. Protein proves to be the most essential nutrient when it comes down to gaining strength or building muscle. Therefore, consume all types of protein from both veg and non veg food items. Boiled chicken and eggs are the best sources of fat free protein. Sprouts are also rich in protein. Your Daily food intake should ideally consist of – a. Have plenty of nuts, dry fuits and seeds. Almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, figs, dates and raisins. They are full of healthy fats needed by a human body. B. Good amount of fruits and vegetables – Bananas, apples, pomegranate, green leafy vegetables. Fruits and vegetables helps in absorption of food in the body and together, completes your daily nutrition need. C. If you are a non- vegetarian - Eat eggs, chicken etc. D. Eat whole grains – Try to have multi grains spread throughout the day. Wheat, brown rice, oats, bajra, daliya etc should be taken in multiple meals in a day. E. Eat Sprouts – Chana and moong which are full of protein and nutrients. F. You can supplement your diet with good quality multi-vitamin capsules. If you are lacking in protein, you can buy a high quality whey protein and have it with banana shake twice a day. G. You can take natural food items like wheat grass which is full of essential nutrients which helps in weight gain.
