My friend is suffering from carcinoma sarcoma of gall bladder type 4 stage cancer. I want to know about the treatment process and hes chances to survive as I am really very worried about him he is 42 years of age .please reply me soon.

MBBS, MD - Medicine, MD - Oncology
Oncologist, Delhi
DEAR NASREEN, HOW YOU KNOW THAT IT IS STAGE 4. IN STAGE 4ALSO SURVIVAL DEPENDS ON HOW AGGRESSIVE IS THE DISEASE. IF IT IS NOT SYMPTOMATIC 8 TO 9 MONTHS OR MORE IS POSSIBLE OTHERWISE 3TO 6 MONTHS COULD BE SURVIVAL TIME. TREATMENT WILL BE ONLY SYMPTOMATIC.

I am a cancer patient (breast, Stage II). I have completed all treatments for the last 2 1/2 years ago. Doctors operated by only partially (only affected area). The whole part are not remove. Cancer cells are again formed? Or not formed?

FACS, MBBS, MS - General Surgery

Dear lybrate-user, chances of re occurrence of cancer is not very uncommon. It can be a local re occurrence or metastasis. The key if to get yourself checked every 6 months. In case any lump/symptom is noticed, it should be catered immediately.

Generally your symptoms are suggestive of fibroadenosis. This is a harmless condition related to hormonal activity at this age. All that you need is a good breast support (a tight bra or sometimes even a crepe bandage around the chest). Medicines are generally not recommended unless it is very troublesome. If breast support doesn't help in 3-4 days, consult a general surgeon. Occasionally a fine needle biopsy or ultrasound / mammography may be required.

What is the survival rate for cancer patients of stage 3. Is chemotherapy and radiation therapy must. Can we go for the alternative method like homeopathy or ayurveda.

MBBS, MS - General Surgery
General Surgeon, Ludhiana
Depends cancer to cancer and type of cancer. Alternative methods have been researched properly. It's a chance you take without proper data to back it up. Better to stick to. Known things. You myt not get a second chance to switch over.

Hello my mother 45 years has stage 3b small cell carcinoma cervix and has been injected with cisplatin n etoposide in first line after 6 cycles which there was 100% response after which she went through internal and external radio therapy. Not 2 months later the cancer reoccurred. After which she received good dose of pacitaxel and ireantecon on 1st and 8th day in her second line which proved out to be ineffective and the disease progressed. Now currently she is having her 3rd line with gemcitabine and another drug (don't know it's name) which aren't looking good either. There is a new lymph node visible on her throat which is getting bigger. I want to know if there is anything we can do about this type of cancer? Any experimental drugs which are proving to be effective? Or what else can we do for that cist on her throat. Or what other drugs can help our case. Thank you.

It's unlikely for a small cell carcinoma of the cervix to reach the throat. It would be a good idea to do a PETCT scan to assess the extent of the disease. Small cell tumours are very aggressive and difficult to treat. If the disease is localised on petct, then surgery can be attempted.

Hi lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking clarification. Well, blood cancer is characterized by uncontrolled growth of the cells of either the lymphatics system or of the cells in the bone marrow. It could present with one or more of the following symptoms - bones/ joints pain, swollen lymph nodes, fevers, night sweats, fatigue/ weakness, tendency to bleed easily, frequent infections, loss of weight/ appetite etc all. The treatment varies basis the type of cancer one is suffering from, apart from other aspects. Your haemato-oncologist can best clarify the treatment protocol/ approach as would be appropriate contextually. Hope this helps. Do take care and all the very best. Sincerely

I have infected galactocele 25 cc in my right Breast, will it be cured by medicine? My baby is now one month.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
As with many cysts, the typical treatment for a galactocele is to leave them alone. When the hormonal change associated with pregancy and lactation cease, the condition should resolve on its own. But, in cases of true discomfort, attempts may be made to 'drain' the galactocele through fine needle aspiration.

Question is for breast cancer stage 3 and grade 3 Why is cancer patient survival rate is measured in relative of 5 years. If the patient is diagnoses with cancer and he go for the treatment like chemotherapy surgery and radiation and he successfully cured the cancer then why he can not survive for 10 years, is it is because of sideeffect of medicines chemo surgery radiation etc.

MBBS, MD - Medicine, MD - Oncology
Oncologist, Delhi
Dear lybrate-user, even stage 3 cancer properly treated will give a 50 to 65% of 5 year survival and even more if the patient is in good general condition. I will also suggest immunotherapy after completed treatment which will perhaps give complete cure.

Lybrate-user ji. Prostate problems are frequent at your age. Please get investigated in detail for your urinary complaints. If you suffer from benign hypertrophy of prostate, which is the commonest cause then there are medications with which you can delay the operations. But the effect is temporary to bring relief. Surgical removal of prostate is the only curative solution to bhp. In case there are other causes please visit a urologist/ urosurgeon.

What Leads to an Enlarged Prostate?

What Leads to an Enlarged Prostate?

Causes and symptoms of enlarged prostate

The problem of an enlarged prostate or benign prostate hyperplasia is a very common occurrence as you grow older. It's known to strike men above the age of 50, with more than 50% of men after the age of 60, having this complaint.

Causes of enlarged prostate

A non-cancerous condition, enlarged prostate makes the passing of urine from the bladder through the urethra difficult. The multiplication of the prostate cells causes an enlargement of the gland, leading to a buildup of pressure on the urethra, affecting the discharge of urine from the body. The narrowing of the urethra, due to this benign condition, forces the bladder to contract more vigorously so as to push urine out of the body.

As time passes, the muscles of the bladder get significantly affected, causing them to become extremely sensitive, thicker and stronger. As a consequence, the bladder begins to contract, even if the amount of urine in the organ is negligible, causing episodes of frequent urination. Gradually, the bladder fails to completely empty itself of urine due to the constriction of the urethra. This can give rise to a number of health problems including the formation of bladder stones, urinary tract infections, blood in the urine and so on.

How can you identify the signs of the condition?

Signs of enlarged prostate are very easy to identify and include:

- A slow or weak urine flow
- Difficulty in initiating urination
- Instances of frequent urination
- A feeling of not completely emptying one's bladder
- Frequent urination during the night
- Exerting a lot to urinate
- Instances of dribbling
- Urgency to pass urine
- A feeling of urinating again minutes after doing so
- Urination that starts and stops

Follow the given medication as directed:- 1) 5 drops of homoeopathic causticum 30 at early morning daily before brushing teeth 2) 5 drops of homoeopathic conium mac 30 before going to bath daily. 3) 5 drops of homoeopathic baryta carb 30 just one hour before dinner daily. 4) homoeopathic mother tincture sabal serrulata q, 30 drops, twice daily, after meals, in a cup of water. Along with the aforesaid medication few changes in your lifestyle are also necessary. Lifestyle alterations to address the symptoms include decreasing fluid intake before bedtime, moderating the consumption of alcohol and caffeine-containing products, and following a timed voiding schedule. Also it would be better if you could void the urine in sitting position.
