My mother had breast cancer and doctor's says she is in advance stage as per reports its spread in lungs and liver. But after 3 oral chemotherapy she is good recovery and able for any treatment. My question is which is best treatment in this stage?

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
It is a metastatic breast cancer. If she is er/pr positive then hormonal therapy is the best treatment. She may respond well. If still residual then chemotherapy can be tried.

Am I more at risk if my relative have cancer and what do cancer stages and grades mean?

Stage means severity of cancer. If more than 2 family members have same type of cancer, family risk needs to be checked.

My friend's father is suffering from Mouth Cancer. Everyday he is suffering from pain. Please let us know what would be the best way to get rid from it.

MBBS, DNB ( Radiation Oncology)
Oncologist, Mumbai
He needs to be evaluated by an oncologist to examine the extent of disease. If it can be operated it should be removed surgically by an onco surgeon followed by adjuvant treatment after the histopathology report.

What is the treatment for oral cancer and what is the percentage of total cure and what is the procedure for Chemotherapy.

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
Dear sir, oral cavity mean oral part of tongue, floor of mouth, buccal mucosa, hard palate etc. They are primarily treated by surgery. Further they may be given radiation therapy, chemotherapy etc depending on histopathological reports. Cure rates depends on initial stage of presentation, earlier the disease better are the cure rates. Chemotherapy are the medicine given either intravenously or orally used to kill cancer cells.

Hello sir my father is paralyzed and prostate problem. He is on catheter. Now he is not able to pass urine. What can I do this time. I can change the catheter or doing something else. Reply me fast. Thanks.

MBBS, MD - Internal Medicine
General Physician, Delhi
Dear , first we have to identify why is he not able to pass urine. It could be due the paralysis and/or due to the prostate problem. If it is due to an enlarged prostate you could get a prostatectomy done. However if it is due to stroke then you have to change the ctaheter. Which side is he paralysed on? did he have a spinal injury or astroke if it is a stroke was it a blood clot or a bleed? can you please upload the ctscan and or mri and his ultrasound reports?

I am 19 years old female. I have lump on my left breast and also right breast. Sized 2.5cm. After doing fnac needle test it shows its fibroadenoma? is it safe? can I leave as it is? or should I operate it? if so when can I operate it? after operated will I get any problem?

MS - General Surgery
Oncologist, Ludhiana
Fibroadenoma is benign condition and it is safe. If you leave it, it will increase in size. Treatment of fibroadenoma is surgery. One fibroadenoma is removed there will be no problem related to it.

I am 75 years and recently had a operation in which a cancerous tumor of 7 kg was surgically removed. Currently I am bed ridden and doctor has advised against chemo as my health is fragile as I am in liquid diet post surgery. I would like to know about any medication apart from chemo or Radio that will improve the health and give stability.

MBBS, MD - Medicine, MD - Oncology
Oncologist, Delhi
Dear lybrate-user, no clear details are there which tell what was the type of cancer, how much was removed. On that basis you decide chemotherapy or radiotherapy. If you can provide the details I can suggest you the further best treatment

What is cause, symptoms and preventing ways of cancer and explain the history of the disease?

MBBS
General Physician, Faridabad
Genetic changes that cause cancer can be inherited from our parents. They can also arise during a person’s lifetime as a result of errors that occur as cells divide or because of damage to DNA caused by certain environmental exposures. Cancer-causing environmental exposures include substances, such as the chemicals in tobacco smoke, and radiation, such as ultraviolet rays from the sun. Types of Cancer There are more than 100 types of cancer. Types of cancer are usually named for the organs or tissues where the cancers form. For example, lung cancer starts in cells of the lung, and brain cancer starts in cells of the brain. prevention is not possible, symptom depends on the organ involved. thanks

My age is 23. Height 6 ft. Weight 76 kg. My question is that does adrenal gland cancer also reduces testicle size?
hi..not related to adrenal cancer..  If the number of spermatozoids has decreased and there is a low level oftestosterone in the blood, it is likely that you are experiencing testicular atrophy I.e, decrease testicle size. Testicular atrophy has many possible causes and in the case of such a diagnosis , you should consult a urologist or endocrinologist.

Hello, if there is any fracture, it should be stabilised first, if possible. Radiotherapy is usually given to the metastatic bones. I need to see the bone scan report so that I can exactly prescribe the treatment.
