Can anyone tell how to diagnose ntm (Nontuberculous mycobacteria) infection? Any test Done to confirm it.

MRCPCH (London), DNB Paediatrics
Pediatrician, Mumbai
In India Non Tubercular Mycobacteria are first to infect. By the age of three years almost every one gets infected but disease does not happen. In fact if protects from Tuberculosis with cross antigenicity. The tests to diagnose when disease is not present are very specialized tests and there is no meaning of positive or negative results. If you have disease like lymphnode swelling or pleural effusion then slide identification tests or cultures can confirm the diagnosis.

Both are good for babies. Do not give any baby formula in combination. You can try Nan formula also. NAN contains DHA which is the containt of breast milk which supports brain growth.

My baby is 8 months he can't digest properly. Motion is not proper 3 to 4 days he goes for motion. I am giving cerelac to baby and gripe water or elcarim syrup or colicaid syrup I am using so pls suggest me best food and best syrup for digestion.

MRCPCH (London), DNB Paediatrics
Pediatrician, Mumbai
If you would have mentioned weight of your baby then it would have been easy for me to access baby's growth and digestion. Motion every 3-4 days should not be worrisome if baby is having normal appetite. Gripe water is big no no. Avoid giving daily colicaid syp which may delay baby's motion frequency. At the age of 8 months babies don't need any support for digestion. Better if you take advice from your paediatrician regarding baby food formulations.

My child 1.5 years old is swallow 2 25 mg thyronorm tablets. What should I do? Please help me.
2.25 mg is not toxic dose of thyronorm but baby will show signs of hyperthyroidism for hours like increase in heart rate, irritability and not eating properly or not able to sleep comfortably. Consult a Paediatrician and take opinion.

Take advice from Paediatrician after consultation about reason for frequent cry. Dicolic drops are given for infantile colic which usually happens in the evening time. Giving it maximum thrice daily won't cause any problem.

Adding arbitrary amount of baby formula is wrong practice. One flat scoop of formula is to be diluted in 30 ml of clean drinking water to make ideal formula milk for a baby. Hence the amount of formula milk is to be made in multiplication of 30 only. Addition of arbitrary amount of formula can make milk concentrated or diluted. Concentrated milk can make baby thirsty, dehydrated and can affect kidneys on long term while diluted milk has less calories and proteins which won't support baby growth and development. Hence make sure baby formula feed is to be made perfectly as advised. Only this can help baby to grow healthy. If baby is less than 6 months old then baby should be given exclusive breast feeding. If mother has lactation issues then better she should take help from gynaecologist or lactation specialist.

Dear Sir/Madam, My son is 3.10 year old, weight 13 kg. He get rashes in the joints (underarm, hand and leg joints), which often turn into a dark patch. We consulted a skin specialist who told us that it is an Aotopy and suggested medicines Cetaphil Moisturizing Lotion (entire body) and Lutica-Fluticasone Cream IP 0.05% w/w 10gm (small quantity to be applied on the rashes) everyday. However, this give a temporary solution on rashes, when we stop Lutica cream those rashes comes again. We have even started homeopathy treatment but don't see much results. We also did his blood test IgE 984.00. So I wanted to check if this is a right treatment or so I do anything else?

MRCPCH (London), DNB Paediatrics

After reading history and analysing medications given by Skin specialist it seems that your child is having eczema. This is type of allergic condition of the skin which makes skin dry, rough and pigmented with the time. Child usually out grows of it by age of 6 years. There is no any particular medicine to cure allergy. The first line of treatment is applying moisturizer creams and when it is not controlled by alone moisturizer creams then low potency steroid creams like fluticasone needs to be applied daily till it comes under control. Rashes are usually seen more during winter season. You can keep allergy under control but can't cure it. Raised IgE level proves that there is no alternate diagnosis.

My baby is 3.6 years but she is born this time the doctor saw her head is some small he tell me everything is fine no problem. But next two years suddenly I have look him she is mrigi patient I have consult doctor then I have two time brain mri and one time (what is the marks test? I loose my memories) the marks test is abnormal then I am treating now syrup EPIVAL consulted by doctor. But baby not speaking properly sentence by sentence and which time of this disease for end please

MRCPCH (London), DNB Paediatrics
Pediatrician, Mumbai
Hi Mr. lybrate-user. I hope you want to say Mirgi ki bimaari matlab Convulsions. Your baby has small head size and convulsions. Also baby is recieving Epival which is a good anti epileptic drug. Your baby also underwent MRI brain twice. This all suggests that she has some organic and functional problems which is not good for me to guess without examining your child and going through all the investigation reports. So it is not possible to comment on prognosis of the disease. Children of 3.5 year old are not fluent in speaking also they do make a sentence of 2-3 words only. Many times only parents can understand what child wants to speak. Your baby has some issues and she is on medication hence we don't expect her to outperform in speaking. If she understands your spoken language and follows commands also if she is able to ask for things she wants then there won't be any difficulty for her to catch up speaking in near future. Speak to your paediatrician when you consult him next time.
