Underweight is a term describing a person whose body weight is considered too low to be healthy. The definition usually refers to people with a body mass index (bmi) of under 18.5 a weight 15% to 20% below that normal for their age and height group. Low weight may be due to improper diet, reduced assimilation from intestine, illness, metabolism, genetics etc. Thus first we have to rule out any such condition, with this have a healthy diet with more proteins (legumes, eggs, fish, lean meat, vegetables and fruits, drink plenty of water and go for regular exercise. A homoeopathic constitutional treatment will definitely help you a lot.

My mom is suffering from Dementia I think as per last diagnosis. My both parents are stays alone at home as I stay away from them for job. If you call for dementia care NGOs, like Nightingale trust, they will help you of a nursing aid, either day or night or 24 hours. There are about 5 day care and one 24 hours care home in Bangalore exclusively for people living with dementia. There are self help groups like Alzheimer disease society who meet at regular intervals, as support group for care givers like your dad and you. Hi here are some changes to make to improve your eating habits: - incorporate more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains into your diet while eliminating unhealthy foods. - if you are working or studying away from home, try to pack healthy lunch and snacks for yourself to avoid eating unhealthy food daily. - don't eat straight from the packet - use a plate or bowl to control how much you eat. - don't delay or skip meals. - cut down your consumption of aerated drinks and sodas. - drink at least 8 glasses of water every day. Drink water after waking up and before sleeping. Being dehydrated may make you feel like you're hungry, so it is important to stay hydrated. - have homemade fruit and vegetable juices - eat 5-6 small healthy meals every 2-3 hours, every day, instead of having a few big ones. This regulates your blood sugar level and your metabolism. - don't skip breakfast, instead, make it rich with complex carbohydrates and proteins, so it can provide you with energy to get through the day. Try to include the following as your morning breakfast, oats porridge, eggs on multigrain toast or daliya with sprouts. - avoid artificial sweeteners in processed foods. - eat slowly as it takes about 20 minutes for your brain to register if you're full or not. Eating too fast leads to overeating, so chew slowly to digest your food better and control how much you eat. - use a smaller plate to control your portion sizes and avoid overeating. - know your cravings and do not snack when you're emotional. It is said that you crave crunchy and savory food when you're stressed, frustrated or lonely. Figure out what you crave and replace them with healthier alternatives. - do not eat mindlessly; concentrate on your food instead of watching tv or playing with your phone to avoid overeating.

To gain weight you should eat more calories than you burn. Plus not only you have to eat calorie dense food but you have to keep in mind that what you are eating is healthy too. In the process of weight gain you do not want to put weight in an uneven manner and look unhealthy rather than looking bright and healthy. Start exercising. Start working out if you are not active. The biggest myth that prevails now a days is that thin people do not need to work out. This is wrong. When you challenge your body, it is forced to grow. But this growth can only be possible if you are eating enough food to let the body absorb and grow in size and muscles. Eat Healthy. Stop drinking and smoking too much if you are indulged in it. Limit your intake of junk food and any form of sugar. Do not at all starve yourself. Make it a habit to eat something healthy every 3 hours. This means you have to eat 6 small meals in a day. Your daily food intake should ideally consist of nuts, dry fruits, seeds, almonds, walnuts, sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, figs, dates and raisins. They are full of healthy fats needed by a human body. Consume good amount of fruits and vegetables. Bananas, apples, pomegranate, green leafy vegetables. Fruits and vegetables helps in absorption of food in the body and together, completes your daily nutrition need. Eat whole grains. Try to have multi grains spread throughout the day. Wheat, brown rice, oats, bajra, daliya etc should be taken in multiple meals in a day. Supplementation. You can supplement your diet with good quality multi-vitamin capsules. If you are lacking in protein, you can buy a high quality whey protein and have it with banana shake twice a day. Chana and moong which are full of protein and nutrients. Increase protein intake. Protein proves to be the most essential nutrient when it comes down to gaining strength or building muscle. Therefore, consume all types of protein from both veg and non veg food items. Chana and moong which are full of protein and nutrients. Try to be patient while you are on the process of weight gain. Results take time to show. Hye, Thanks for the query. If you want to gain some weight, you need to eat more calories than you burn. 1. Eat 5 to 6 meals a day In order to gain weight, you need to start eating 5-6 meals a day. However, it is important that you break these meals into parts, as eating a lot at once may result in indigestion. Also, be sure to include healthy foods in your diet for a healthy weight gain. 2. Weight train at least 3 times a week When you train with weights, your muscles grow. 3. Consume more calories than you burn. Eating calories more than your normal intake may not be easy, but you must do it if you want to stop being skinny. Make sure you don’t do it just by overeating at once, but instead do it gradually over the whole day. 4. Work out your entire body A lot of gym goers usually train only the muscles on their arms, chest and shoulders and this is a grave error. Make sure you workout your entire body for a wholesome weight gain. 5. Load up on protein As informed earlier, you have to consume more calories than your normal intake every day. You can do this by eating foods rich in protein like dairy, pulses, dals, nuts, dry fruits, sprouts, smoothies, milk shakes etc. 6. Drink your calories It may be tough to meet your calorie requirements by just eating. Drinking milk, lassi, milkshakes or fruit smoothies with little or no sugar can be a great way to load up on the required calories. 7. I have fungal disease (ring worms) from few years, I applied many tubes like ring guard, 4derm etc, it gives temporary relief but after some days it again creates problem, it inches in the affected area (joints of both the legs) What should I do to get rid of it permanently? _ is there any home made remedy for the same? You can apply candid b cream on it if you are sure it's fungal infection otherwise consult a dermatologist and get it checked and diagnosed when problem subsides completely then you can apply coconut oil on it to fade away the marks.

As per your age 55 kg weight is optimum. You may get involved in more outdoor activities- playing/ swimming/dancing/aerobics. Spend less time with tv/ mobile/video games. Avoid eating in front of tv. Have small frequent meals. Avoid junk/ processed/ready to eat/ outside/fried/ sugary foods & drinks, alcohol. Drink 2-3 litres water daily. Two glasses of milk contain around 14 gram of protein while the polyunsaturated fats in almond add those extra calories when included in the everyday diet. Dear you can easily gain weight and get a healthy muscular body by following these best things - 1. To gain weight, your digestion should work properly. If you have any disease of digestive system you should treat disease first. For proper digestion - take 10 gms powder of carom seeds (ajwain, 10 gm powder of cumin (jeera), 10 gm of rock salt. Mix them well and take 1/2 teaspoon (3-5 gm) of mixture daily after meal. Or take 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper (kali mirch), 1/ 2 tea spoon of jeera (cumin), 2-3 slice of ginger. Hello To gain weight the general advice will be to start eating weight gain diet or food in a higher quantity. You will get advice to have milk/milk products/dry fruits/meat/fish etc. Diet divided in six short meals will b advised by one and all. I will try not to bombard you with these general advice as you are going to get them in plenty. What I am concentrating is to make you understand why you are not gaining weight. Ask yourself three questions. 1. Am I satisfied with by bowel moments? Meaning am I satisfied with passing stools? 2. Do I eat food because it's lunch time or am I actually hungry? 3. Am I getting proper sound sleep? If all the three answers are positive meaning proper stools are being passed no constipation, you r eating food because you are hungry and not because it's lunch time and you are having proper sleep then you can blindly follow the advice given by maximum doctors that is to increase your weight gain food. But if the answers are negative that means you are suffering from constipation or not getting proper sleep then we will have to sort that issues first as weight can only be gained if the food is getting properly digested and a person with gud digestion doesn't suffer from constipation. Also a person with gud sleep will gain weight with weight enhancing food as body does its weight gaining if person gets gud rest.
