Hi my baby girl is 3 weeks old, she is suffering from cold, chest cough and vomit, she is very much suffer from motion problem, she is 2.5 kg only still weight not gain because of these prblm I am very much worried about this pls advice.

MD - Paediatrics, Diploma in Child Health (DCH), Postgraduate Diploma in Adolescent Pediatrics
Pediatrician, Gurgaon
Dear lybrate-user, you have not mentioned the birthweight of your baby----was it the same or less. This is important for the doctor to decide if the baby is growing normally. Many mothers mistake the nasal sounds that baby makes while feeding, as cold and cough. Babies on only mother's milk do not catch colds easily, esp at that age of 3 weeks. Please have him assessed by a doctor for cold. Vomiting or regurgitation is common in babies and not a cause for concern if baby is sucking briskly, feeding well and passing urine 8to 10 times a day and stools of breastfed babies are usually loose. Do not worry too much and relax and enjoy your baby instead of spending too much time on google to see what is wrong with your baby. Feed your baby as often as she asks and not by the clock. This will go a long way to increase milk production.

Thinking of whitening your teeth? Start by speaking with your dentist. He or she can tell you whether whitening procedures would be effective for you.

If you have diabetes, you have a greater risk of developing certain oral health problems than people who don?t have diabetes. Controlling blood glucose (blood sugar) levels can reduce the risk of these effects.

A veneer placed over a tooth surface can greatly improve a tooth that is stained, badly shaped, crooked, or injured.

A balanced diet, limited number of snacks, brushing and flossing each day, and regular dental checkups are the keys to a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums.

If you are nervous about going to the dentist, tell your dentist and the dental staff. They may be able to adapt the treatment to your needs.

I want to know a complete diet plan for my 4 months baby what to feed and when the correct time he doesn't take breastfeeding.

MD Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Hyderabad
The only diet for a 4 month old baby is mothers milk! under special circumstances formula feeding can be given but only if required. There might be other reasons for the baby for not taking breast milk like colic pain problem or any any problem. Just rule out any other problem rather than shifting to any other diet. I suggest you to continue only breast milk atleast till 6 months.

Do not use your teeth for doing something other than chewing food. Using them for cracking nuts, removing bottle tops or ripping open packaging can result in chipped or broken teeth.

My new born baby (13 days) is crying wen I lay her in bed. She is showing irritations. She is also crying while passing urine. Is dat is a pblm pls rly.

DHMS (Hons.)
Homeopath, Patna
Hello, Baby cry when being put down on bed, being separated from her caregiver makes her feel that some thing is  different going on depriving her the affection of her mother. ▪how can she really ignore that she is being put down from the lap of her mother as she misses the softness of nature & body of her mother •smell of the body •breathing chest of her mother •the affectionate motherly touch as well. •here begins the  feeling of insecurity for the baby. ●Baby, misses  the temperature of the body of her mother waking her up while being put down. Henceforth, Baby should be wrapped up in a blanket while putting her down keeping her body warm. ●baby is not accustomed to pee or poop what she has to learn in due course of time so it's a natural phenomenon for an infants to cry while passing urine or stool. Your feedback matters ,please. The care.

What should I do? I have tried Ayurveda medicine (prescription medicine) without effect.

You need to continue medications as advised by your doctor and review on a monthly basis. Do not stop the medicines on your own else the symptoms would relapse. We generally titrate the medicines very slowly over a period of few months to keep the child asymptomatic.

My 1 year old baby gets stomach cramp almost every night. Gripe water does gives little relief. What should I do?

BHMS
Homeopath, Navi Mumbai
Stomach cramp is a common problem in the first years of child's life. There are other options available like anti flatulent and anti colic medicines. You should have them at home for emergencies such as late night. I recommend you to see a skilled homeopath nearby. You will get effective yet side effect free medicines. All the best.

Tragedies - How they Affect Kids?

Tragedies are a part of life and at some point in life, every person faces them. It may be in different forms like separation, crisis in relationships, financial stress, death of a loved one, some severe disease and many others. Such tragedies can cripple anybody from inside out, but the children can have a devastating effect on their lives. Therefore, it is important that you love and support them during this phase and help them face the situation well.

Here are a few ways of dealing with the effects of tragedies on kids:

  1. Talk to them, honestly: It is important to assure the kids that they are not alone in this world and should remember that there are many other people who love them. In case of a tragedy, kids usually have a lot of pent-up feelings inside them. You need to talk to them and make them understand that instead of keeping those feelings to themselves, they should talk to you or anyone they trust. Venting out will enable them to relax.
  2. Act on truth: It is very important to teach the children that no matter what happens in life, there is a chance to start afresh. The kids should be surrounded with people they love, as it will make them feel a little relaxed and open. Also, it is essential for them to know that there’s always hope and not all is lost.
  3. Remain calm: After a large scale tragedy, your children will usually look up to you regarding, how to react in a situation. Although it is okay for your children to see you sad or in grief, but you should keep as calm as possible and do not react intensely. This will help keep them calm and less anxious.
  4. Reassure your children about safety: You should make your children understand that they are safe and nothing bad will happen to them. They must be reassured that no harm will come upon them as you are always with them.
  5. Maintain normal routine: It is essential to give your children a feeling of normalcy. You must try to maintain their normal schedule with the usual dinner time, bed time and school time. You must pay special attention to them to make them feel more secure. You should spend extra time with them and always be there for company and reassurance for any factor.

Children are affected severely by any kind of tragedies as they are fragile and immature. Tragedies disrupt the balance of life, but you must try to make your children feel the crisis as less as possible, so that they get less hampered emotionally. A troubled childhood affects the healthy growing up of a child.

We live in a desert with frequent sand storms and dusty conditions. My 4.25 years old daughter gets severe coughs 2-3 times every year in winters. The coughing get so intense that she can't sleep we have to give her anti allergic for 3-4 weeks and antibiotics in case the cough gets infected. Summers are not as bad for her. How to boost her immunity, what precautions should we take, any changes in the diet etc. Kindly advise.

MD - Homeopathy
Pediatrician, Mumbai
Firstly you need to avoid contact with dust which is quite difficult. You can use vaccuum cleaners so that you can keep your house free of dust as much as possible. Teach her yogas like praanaayam which will help in increasing lung capacity and eventually immunity. As per diet is concerned avoid excessive chocolates, coloured food items, cold drinks, deep fried foods, packed food items. Give her more of soups, salads, whole grains in any form.
