Most kinds of toothpaste contain glycerin that may do more harm than good. The thing is, glycerin coats the teeth and prevents remineralization. Like bones, teeth are composed of calcium, phosphorus, and other minerals, which are all delivered to teeth through saliva. When these minerals cannot get in teeth, your teeth are not as strong as they should be. So, make sure you buy glycerin free toothpaste.

For complete oral health, keeping your tongue clean is as important as keeping your teeth clean. Remove tongue plaque and bad breath by using a proper tongue scraper daily.

How to straight teeth and how to remove extra teeth? is it very painful?

How to straight teeth and how to remove extra teeth? is it very painful?
You can straighten teeth using brackets that are bonded onto teeth and wires passing through these brackets, which exert force on your teeth. This takes time, at least six months, sometimes a year. Another way of doing this is to add material to the sides of the teeth, or put veneers on the front of teeth to bring them in line with the neighbouring teeth. The second one takes less time, but involves filing the teeth and using chemical bonding agents. Removing teeth is not at all painful. You are given an anesthetic injection and the complete area goes numb, so you don't feel anything.

Soft drinks, cordials and fruit juices should be consumed in a limited quantity because they are acidic in nature. Acidic food or drinks often soften the tooth material which leads to the dissolution of minerals into the tooth enamel, resulting in cavities (holes).

My teeth are not bright white and enamel is also damaged. Gum pains sometime. I want a bright smile. What should I do?

My teeth are not bright white and enamel is also damaged. Gum pains sometime. I want a bright smile. What should I do?
There are many causes of yellow or discolored and damaged teeth. A few of the most common:------------- 1. Drinks: Coffee and red wine cause major damage to teeth. But other drinks with high acidity, such as soda, juices and even sports drinks can cause staining on the teeth. Even white wine is not far behind in staining our teeth yellow, because its tannins and acidic nature wear away at the tooth enamel. These Acidic drinks lowers the Ph of teeth below 6 thus causing corrosive wear and tear of teeths.--------------- 2. Certain Foods: Colored candies, popsicles and other bright foods can cause staining over time. Think of it this way – if your tongue turns a bright shade of blue, chances are your teeth are getting some of that discoloration, too. Even healthy foods such as berries (blueberries, cranberries, raspberries) can stain teeth. Ketchup, curry and other sauces can cause staining problems over time, too.----------------- 3, Natural Aging Process: Quite simply, teeth yellow over time. It’s a natural part of the aging process that the white protective coatings wear down over time. So the longer you have your teeth, the more likely they are to become yellow or discolored.---------------- 4. Most of us are guilty of at least some of the above (and none of us can stop time). But the good news is that even if red wine is one of your vices and your teeth look yellower lately, there are things you can do to bring back the white.---------------- 5. How to make Teeth white------------ (a) Avoid Certain Foods/Drinks When Possible: We’re not asking you to give up your morning coffee, just to reduce the intake of the above foods as much as possible. Sometimes simply being aware can help us make better choices.-------- (b) Drink Water: After you’ve consumed a tooth-staining food or drink try to immediately follow it with a glass of water. Swirling water around your mouth can drastically help clear away the acids or staining. This simple step is free and easy, and can drastically help reduce tooth discoloration.---------------- (c) Proper Dental Hygiene: Proper brushing, flossing and regular dental checkups help keep teeth healthy for a lifetime. Develop these habits early and you’re less likely to have dental problems down the line.------------- (d) Teeth Whitening: The good news is that there are many options available to whiten teeth. Some can be done at home while others can take help of Homoeopathic medicines.------------ Homoeopathic medicine------------ B. C-23 (Dr Reckeweg) Chew 4 tabs 3 times daily--------------- HEKLA LAVA TOOTH POWDER (WHEEZAL) Scrub teeth daily night------------ IN morning use any good quality tooth paste----------------- RINSEOUT (SBL) Gargles 20 drops in 20 ml luke warm water. Gargles 3 times daily while holding water for 20 seconds in mouth esp. After meals.------------

Common Solutions for Bad Breath Smell

Having a bad breath smell is considered a social stigma. Also known as halitosis, it refers to the unpleasant odor that can be sensed when the affected person opens his/her mouth. When in the company of a person with bad breath smell, many people tend to cover their nose. The most frequent cause for this malady is the bacterial growth in the mouth. So, you need to find ways of avoiding the accumulation of bad bacteria in your mouth in order to eliminate bad breath. A very common cause that encourages bacterial growth is having a dry mouth.

The treatment for bad breath varies from oral hygiene, to avoiding certain kinds of foods, particularly those causing a reduction in the production of saliva. Some helpful ways of treating bad breath are mentioned below. You'll also discover the reasons that make them effective.

1. Brush your teeth, followed by gargling, at the end of each meal: it helps eliminating the food particles that may be left in your mouth. These tiny particles can cause a foul smell as they start decaying.

2. Scrap the tongue: your tongue has millions of infinitesimal hairs, where bacteria gets trapped and causes bad breath. You can recognize the presence of bacteria on your tongue as it gets coated with a white layer.

3. Chewing sugar-free gum encourages the flow of saliva, while a dry mouth encourages the growth of bacteria. So, if you keep your mouth hydrated, the bacterial growth is eliminated or restricted.

4. Visit your dentist periodically: your dentist can discover if any gum problems or perhaps a decayed tooth are the cause of bad odor. For instance, that filling in your tooth may have cracked, or it might be inefficiently positioned, allowing food particles to get deposited there, resulting to a bad breath.

5. Avoid mouthwashes and breath fresheners that contain alcohol: though such formulations help masking bad odors for a while, they also dry the mouth quickly, and thus facilitate undesired bacterial growth.

6. Apply peppermint oil: this solution may be applied with or even without using a toothbrush. It has mouth refreshing properties, and it helps killing unwanted bacteria.

7. Use baking soda: a proven treatment for bad breath is brushing your teeth with baking soda. It also helps keeping a good oral health.

8. Consume leafy green vegetables: many people are not aware that chlorophyll, as available in leafy green vegetables, helps keeping your breath fresh all the time. So, start eating such vegetables regularly.

9. Avoid certain foods: toxic foods, such as spicy meats and certain varieties of cheese, including blue and Camembert, should be avoided, as they encourage the formation of gases in the stomach, and these tend to escape through the mouth, causing a foul smell.

Sir my teeth so painful when I am drinking cold water what should I do?

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist,
Sir my teeth so painful when I am drinking cold water what should I do?
A major cause of tooth sensitivity is root exposure. Kindly consult a dentist in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations (full mouth x-ray) to decide upon treatment. You may need cleaning along with desensitizing procedures or artificial enamel filling or root canal treatment. Advance procedures can be done with laser too. You may consult me in person. Until then apply a desensitizing paste (sensodyne tooth paste) on the teeth. Wait for 10 to 15 min until you brush your teeth with the same paste. Applying it overnight will be better. Dental tips: - visit a dentist every six months for cleaning and a thorough dental check-up. Limit sugary food to avoid tooth decay. Gargle your mouth thoroughly after every meal. Scrub gently to clean your tongue with a tongue cleaner. Floss all your teeth inter dentally & brush twice daily, morning & night, up & down short vertical strokes, with ultra-soft bristles, indicator brush. Tooth brush to be changed every 2 months.

Plaque accumulation on the tooth surface is one the main reasons for halitosis(bad breath), deposits on the tongue can also elicit bad breath. It is advisable to brush twice a day , floss regularly and use a mouthwash. Also visit your dentist for an comprehensive oral treatment.
