Hello,Homeopathic medicines are less invasive and have more herbal approach towards gaining the weight. 5 Reasons Why You Gain Weight As You Age

It’s frustrating to see that though there is little change in diet, weight gain becomes normal as we get older. ‘Tyres’ around the tummy and heavy hips are often seen as a sign of being middle aged. There are many reasons for this change in the rate of weight gain. Some of them are:

  1. Lower metabolic rate: As children and teenagers, the body is constantly growing and changing and hence has a high metabolic rate. Metabolic rate refers to the speed with which fat is burned to produce energy. After the age of 30, this metabolic rate naturally slows down and fewer calories are burned. This leads to the accumulation of fat. The only way to boost your metabolic rate and burn fat is by exercising.

  2. Less muscle mass: With age, the muscles in the body also begin to shrink. Thus, instead of forming muscle, fat cells are formed as a result of digestion. When comparing muscles and fat cells, the former burn more calories and hence when they are unavailable, the rate of burning calories is lowered leading to weight gain.

  3. Weight gain in menopause: When it comes to women, menopause is another trigger for weight gain. This is because, this condition is marked by hormonal imbalances. This leads to a sudden drop in estrogen levels that triggers a response in the body to draw out more estrogen from the fat cells. Ultimately, this leads to the formation of more fat. Men too can suffer from hormonal imbalances as they age. This is seen by a drop in testosterone levels that leads to abdominal weight gain.

  4. Sedentary lifestyle: As we get older, our lifestyle turns more sedentary. A sedentary lifestyle is very unhealthy and leads to not only weight gain, but a number of other problems as well. Without regular exercise, the body’s existing metabolic rate further reduces leading to accumulation of fat cells. To combat this, take half an hour out of your schedule every day to go for a walk, cycle or practice any form of exercise.

  5. Stress: Stress not only affects your psychological health, but your physical well-being as well. Being under pressure or anxious can increase the cortisol levels in the body. This creates hunger pangs that lead to unhealthy snacking. When eating in a stressful condition, little or no attention is paid to the food being eaten or the messages your body is trying to give you. For gaining weight your digestive power must be strong so that intestines could absorb the nutrients properly. Take plenty of fresh water, fresh vegetables, fruits, dry fruits, buffalo milk and milk products. Take good sound sleep at least for 7 hrs a day. Do body massage with olive oil or sesame oil 2-3 times a week. As your appetite is low, first you start taking chitrakadi vati. One tablet three times a day after each meal with lukewarm water for seven days and after that start following herbal formula: ashwagandhadi churna + dhatupaustic churna+ musli churna+ powder of soya chunks, mix all thoroughly in equal quantity, and, take one tea spoon twice a day with one glass milk. Also take lavanbhaskar churna 3 gms twice a day after main meals with lukewarm water.

Hi, Good that you r concern abt your fitness. You are over wt. By approx. 15 kgs. With hypothyroidism it is little bit hard to lose wt. Without supervision of a dietician. You should go for brisk walk in the morning and evening. Take 0ne glass lukewarm water with lemon in the morning. Take lemon tea avoid milk tea. Drink more water in a day. Take small and frequent meals. Food slowly chew well and not to swallow. Avoid fried foods.

Lybrate-usertake high protein diet. Walk regulary or you can join gym but it should be regular. You can take any protein powder for mass gaining. Take warm milk with honey twice a day mainly in sleeping time.

I am suffering from skin diseases since about 4 years. Sometimes in the form of Ringworm, most of the times rashes and itchiness that brings cuts down there in pubic areas. Also I suffer from mouth ulcers that appear deep inside my mouth on the tonsils or surrounding area. Another terrible thing I face is that some of my fingers get very dry on finger-folds and get cracked. Blood comes out. Not only embarrassing but these things are very very painful. I have tried many doctors many medicines but all were temporary solutions. None of those qualified specialist doctors (duffers rather) could finish my problems and just kept on charging huge amounts as fees. I am fed up. Fully fed up. I wanna end this suffering or end myself. Its very shameful. I avoid handshakes. I stay isolated with people most of the time so that my problems do not enter into other's life. Please help me out somebody if you can. I am a poor person who cannot afford to waste money in temporary solutions with stupid selfish doctors who do not even talk properly in mannered way. They don't even clarify what and why am I suffering all this. They just open mouth for the fees. 500. 700. 1200 rupees plus the medicines expenses. That all for a few days. Problems bounce back again. I hate taking medicines now. I want a permanent solution and end these skin problems. Please please please help me.

Hello Mr. lybrate-user, it might be Eczema and there is no permanent cure for it. Everyone has a unique skin. There’s more than one kind of dermatitis – and there’s more than one way of treating it. Whether your skin feels itchy, irritated or dry, it’s important to understand your dermatitis – no matter the type as it is a chronic condition and has many causes from reactions to previously harmless substances through to stress or genetics. There are a few things that you can do at home to prevent dermatitis from spreading. Do not scratch. Cut your nails short, and file them smooth. Or you may wear gloves if this helps keep you from scratching. Wash the area with water only. Pat dry. Put cold, wet cloths on the rash to reduce itching. Keep cool, and stay out of the sun. Leave the rash open to the air as much as possible. The patient with dermatitis should put lotions and creams in a liberal way to prevent itching and further infection to spread. The type of lotion best for your skin type can only be suggested to you after a complete history and physical examination of the lesion. These lubricants or creams should be applied to the skin immediately after bathing and then multiple times in a day. Prescribed ointments may be preferred for nighttime use because of their superior hydrating properties. Wearing cotton gloves or socks at night may enhance these properties. No matter whether you call it dermatitis or eczema, inflamed and itchy skin is a nasty thing to have to deal with. Ease your mind and the itch by visiting your nearest dermatologist.

Ashwagandha is a short woody shrub that belongs to the Solanaceae family. The powder is obtained from its roots. Take 1 glass of warm milk and add 2 tablespoons of ashwagandha powder to it. Then, mix one teaspoon of clarified butter (ghee). Stir it well and drink two times a day. Do this for one month.

Hi lybrate-user you should take a balanced diet with right ratio of calories, protein & carb. This diet will help you a healthy gain 2-3 kg in month. You should take a healthy meal in every 3 hours. Don't drink water or any liquid before or while eating. Foods-dairy products, soya, sprouts, egg, potato, rice etc.
