Hi lybrate-user, There is developmental delay in all spheres (motor, adaptive and social) in children with Down’s syndrome and most common genetic cause of learning disability & mental retardation. As there is no curative therapy, counseling has a central role to play in the management. Having Down's syndrome child can be challenging at times. But with help professional support, most people are able to have healthy, active and more independent lives. There are many children who have done wonders and hence take it as chanllenge and support your kid to develop and learn.

Your daughter is already under care of pediatrician. Trust your doctor. Medicines you mentioned is not prevalent in my area of my practice. So contents of medicines are not known to me. You may instill 2-3 drops of saline nasal drops in each nostrils 3-4 times in a day.

Most often children just need a little more incentive to get them talking 1. Eat something your child loves in their presence with out offering them any. When your child indicates that they would like some, model a more advanced way for them to make the request, whether it is using a sign, a word or a simple phrase. For example, if your child points and grunts to the candy, model the sign for candy then wait and see if your child will imitate the sign candy. If your child simply keeps pointing and grunting take his/her hand and help him make the sign for candy then reward him/her with the candy. 2. Play with something your child loves but don’t offer to share. For instance if your child loves playing with playdough and wants to participate in the fun, you could model the /p/ sound for “please” or “play,” or you could model the signs for please or play. If your child can already say one word model a two word phrase for him/her to imitate like, “play please.” 3. At meal time and snack time give your child bite size portions, rather than dishing up a whole serving for them, then wait for them to request more. If no attempt is made model the sign “more,” help them make the sign, or model the /m/ sound for them to imitate. 4. Limit your child’s access to things like the t. V. Toys, food, or going outside. Set it up so they have to make a request or ask for help to access these things. You may accomplish this by putting favorite things up high or locked up. 5. Play turn-taking games such as rolling the ball back and forth, or pushing a car back and forth. Once your child expects another turn hold the car or ball and wait. Look at him/her expectantly if no sign or verbal request is made, model an appropriate request such as the sign for “ball,” the /b/ sound, the word “ball” or “ball please”… 6. Use tight containers to store things in. When your child indicates he/she wants a cookie you might hand him/her the cookie jar (tightly sealed of course), when he/she can’t open it and hands it back to you make him/her sign open or help. 7. Use wind up toys or other toys that are difficult for kids to operate on their own. Wind up a wind-up toy your child gets a kick out of then hand it to them when they want a turn, wait for them to request help by using the sign or the word to operate the toy. 8. Blow bubbles then screw the lid on tightly and hand it back to your child for their turn. Wait for them to request help with a a sign or a word. Model the sign or word if necessary Consult Speech Pathologist.

ITS REALLY GOOD THAT YOU WANT YOUR KID TO BE A GENIUS. TO BEGIN WITH, YOU SHOULD TAKE CARE OF HIS NUTRITION. EXCLUSIVE BREAST MILK FEEDING FOR FIRST SIX MONTHS OF LIFE. NOW, FOR HIS PERSONALITY, FIRST SEVEN YEARS OF HIS LIFE ARE VERY IMPORTANT. THESE YEARS WILL DEFINE HIS PERSONALITY. KIDS LEARN MORE THROUGH OBSERVATION IN THIS PERIOD. WHICH MEANS, YOU NEED TO GIVE A VERY HEALTHY EMOTIONAL ENVIRONMENT. YOU NEED DISPLAY THE BEHAVIOR LIKE TRUE GENIUSES HAVE. HOPE THIS HELPS. ALL THE BEST

Normal diet of small child is. From birth to 5-6 months-- breast feed only 3-4 hrly interval six times a day. Their after start reducing the frequency of breast feed and start with soup like feeds two times at six months, increase to four times at one year. Breast at one year is given only two times for 10-20 minutes only. Next step in development is self feeding. By 9 months child start picking up things lying on floor and put it in mouth. That he should be taught self feeding. This period runs upto 18 months. Your child has to pass all these stages. First find out what type s of food he likes of course at home. Give these food six times to be eaten by himself. It is high time child learn to eat by themselves. Otherwise they become timid children.

He is suffering from constipation.  he should be on a good fibre rich diet. Give plenty of water.  regular laxative if needed along with a good diet plan. As constipation is a chronic problem in most cases and most common cause is habitual constipation.  You must ensure a regular bowel time after a drink irrespective of passage of stool. He should be sitting for sometime say 10_ 15 minutes in a fixed time daily in a Indian style toilet. She appears  to be a fussy eater. Most importantly you need to be patient with her. Don't shout or scream while feeding her. Try to make her feeding time fun or playtime. After not giving any food for 3 hrs at least make him sit with the food he likes (solid foods not pastes or liquids) with spoon and katori or fork. Let him at least play with the food for some time. If he likes milk a lot then try to give solid like plain rice, oats. Chatu. With the pediasure You can have a deal with him. He will take 1 sip milk and 1 bite of something  This way he will learn to chew Threptin  biscuits are good to taste and are rich in protein (casein) Avoid giving him chips fast food Makes small pieces of food  and ask  her to try just 1 bite. If he likes the taste she will have another. If he likes chicken. Give him chicken in different  ways. Introduce him to egg. Boiled or omelette whatever he likes. Play with him till he feels tired. Playing running will improve digestion. Don't loose temper You can give him  one egg a day Cucumbers made into small pieces will help  with problem of flatulence. Children have to deal with new  food, new habits. So they act out. Do not get flustered if he criesmakes a scene. Sit quietly, go to another room, ignore him. He will learn that bad behaviour  will not allow him to get her own way. I know it's very difficult but keep trying as that's the best you can give him. Pain  abdomen  may be due indigestion earmarked, gastritis. Good hand hygiene: Regular nail trimming Washing hand after each toilet visit. And before taking any food in any form Also take care of drinking water quality. Test Adviced: CBC with AEC Stool and urine R/E, M/E USG abdomen Share the reports if any Kindly do the follo You can check out the Health blog I manage with my wife. It has many helpful tips. Usually children tell abdominal pain as attention seeking device and if tests are normal you have to think of it. If pain is sever you can give drugs like cyclopam and see. Speak to her caringly and inform me.
