What should I do about my pimples. I am having them from years. They do not stop.

BHMS
Homeopath,
Dear lybrate user, pimples/ acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory skin disease which develops due to blocking of the hair follicles in skin. These blockages occur due to 4 abnormal processes: 1) excess sebum production due to androgens 2) excessive deposition of the protein keratin leading to comedone formation 3) infection of propionibacterium acnes (p. Acnes) bacteria on the hair follicles 4) local release of pro-inflammatory chemicals in the skin. In order to stop the formation of pimples the aforesaid four causes should be terminated. Now the bitter truth is neither can you stop the overproduction of androgen or keratin protein nor can you stop the release of pro-inflammatory chemicals because all these processes takes place internally in your skin. However you can stop the accumulation of p. Acnes bacteria on your skin by preventing your skin from getting oily. Always keep a handkerchief with you whenever you go outside. You should wipe off the slightest amount of sweat from your face as soon as you perspire on entering your room from outside wash your face with an oil-free, non-moisturizing face wash. Take a low carbohydrate diet. Do some exercise daily. Drink a lots of water to avoid constipation. Avoid pricking the pimples or popping the sebum as it may lead to black pigmentation & permanent scar formation. You can also take homoeopathic calcarea phos 200, 5 drops, thrice daily, in empty stomach also you can apply homoeopathic mother tincture berberis aquifolium q on the dark spots on your skin which are produced after the resolution of the pimples.

I am taking medication for diabetes, glycomet 0.5 and cetapin r 400, it is for around past 8 months. For past 2-3 months, I am noticing lack of focus and concentration, lack of memory. Is this normal or just my delusion, what shall I do?

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
I have read your query and understood your concerns. Lack of concentration can be a part of anxiety, depression and lots of stress. If you are having any persistent stress in your life then it needs to be addressed first. Relaxation therapy like yoga and meditation will help you a lot. Following are some tips to increase your mood and concentration: - engage in your hobbies - play indoor games with your children like carrom, chess, puzzle games etc. - play sudoku and solve crossword puzzles - talk to friends and go for outing whenever you are free - keep distance from alcohol and other drugs - make a schedule of activities to perform as per priority and follow the schedule - if you are forgetting appointments or meeting then make use of application for reminder - become social person if you are not - if your mind is distracted somewhere start counting backwards from 100. By the time you reach 50, you shall find yourself relieved. - keep yourself updated about current political affairs - take help from friends - take a good night sleep of at least 8 hours.

5 Myths and Facts About Acne

5 Myths and Facts About Acne

Most people have suffered from acne at some point of their life or the other. However, acne is one of the most misunderstood skin conditions. Let's take a look at 5 myths and facts about acne.

Acne is caused by poor hygiene habits - Myth
Acne is not caused by dirty skin. Contrary to popular belief, washing your face too many times can make the condition of your skin deteriorate. This can also worsen your acne breakout. Aggressively soaping your skin and excessive use of astringent can also traumatize the skin and make it look worse after treatment. You should ideally wash your face twice a day; once in the morning and once before going to bed. However, if you feel a buildup of oil on your face, you can wash it with lukewarm water and a mild soap.

Acne affects people of all ages - Fact
Acne is most common amongst teenagers, but can affect people of all races and ages. Hormonal changes and stress are two of the most common triggers for acne. Acne that begins after the age of 25 years is known as 'late onset acne'. Hormonal changes associated with a woman's menstrual cycle often trigger acne eruptions.

There is no treatment for acne - Myth
Acne does not go away on its own. At the same time, toothpaste and 'picking pimples' are not the best form of treatment for this condition. Acne can be easily treated with over the counter and prescription drugs. In some cases, you may also need antibiotics or hormonal medication. If left untreated, acne can result in permanent scarring that mars your beauty.

Moisturizing skin can help prevent acne - Fact
It may seem contradictory at first glance, but keeping your skin moisturized can help prevent acne. Dehydrated skin produces more oil than hydrated skin. Thus keeping your skin hydrated is essential. Choose a light moisturizer instead of heavy creams.

Makeup causes acne - Myth
Makeup has often been misunderstood as trigger for acne. However, makeup itself does not cause acne. The fault lies in not removing makeup properly at the end of the day. If you have oily skin that is prone to acne, choose powder based foundations instead of liquid foundations that can clog your pores. If you use a lot of makeup through the day, give your skin time to breathe at night. Ensure that every trace of makeup is removed before you go to bed.

I can't maintain my lunch time, so feeling very weak during my office time. What should I do? Please help me.

B.Sc. - Dietitics / Nutrition, Nutrition Certification,Registered Dietitian
Dietitian/Nutritionist, Delhi
Weakness is a result of lack of physical or muscle strength. If you are feeling that extra effort is required to move your arms, legs, or other muscles, it could also be a result of any disease, illness and too much activity at one time and not taking the food to match the amount of physical effort you are doing. Sometimes low levels of minerals (electrolytes), such as potassium or sodium also result in body weakness. Other important reason could be the problems with your thyroid gland. Because your thyroid gland is responsible for regulating the way the body uses energy. A low thyroid level can cause fatigue, weakness, laziness, weight gain etc. And a high thyroid level can cause fatigue, weight loss, muscle weakness etc. Sometime because of stress you may feel disinterest in your routine works. Since the reasons for your weakness are not known, I shall advise the following - 1. Keep yourself hydrated. 2. Get extra rest for some days till you feel more energetic. 3. Avoid watching television for long hours. Indulge in relaxing activities. 4. Avoid stress and too much physical exertion. 5. Take a nutritious diet with more protein items in homemade food like soya, sprouts, dals, paneer, milk, seasonal fruits. 6. Do light physical activity, meditation and yoga. 7. Take one good multivitamin tablet after food for 7 days.

M.Sc. in Foods & Nutrition, PhD in Foods & Nutrition

there is a no much difference between 1 med cooked roti & 3/4 katori of rice. Calories content of rice is 86 & roti is 84. but whole wheat roti has a more fibre as compared to the white rice....

Bronchitis is inflammation of bronchus system. Majority of time problem is allergic in condition. Allergy are mainly due to dust pollution food fruits with pesticides etc. Mainly here we have to increase immunity so that no allergy can happen and well this done by homoeo medicines. Safe effective and cheap. I have cured /maintained many cases in my 30 years of practise.

Hello doctor, I am suffering from more hair fall front side. It becomes bald fore head. It can be recover my hair fall. Is any medicine or food for this? Please give advice for my problem.

Vaidya Visharad
Ayurveda, Narnaul
Just as your overall health will benefit from eating a balanced diet, so too should the health of your hair. Once it’s gone, it’s gone, so don’t put foods in your body that speed up hair loss. You may be experiencing a thinning on top already, but you can counteract this (or at least slow it down) by eating from every food group daily -- concentrating on foods that are rich in protein, iron, silica, and zinc.
