I have PCOS and Breast fibrodenums (not cancerous). I am lean and slim in weight. It's been 4 years I have been diagnosed with PCOS, and I found breast lumps some months ago. I wish to know a proper diet plan which will have all the micronutrients, that my body misses because of which this is happening again and again. I am taking medicines from years now and I don't think it is working for me. Basically, how can I normalise my hormonal imbalance with food and exercise?

Through ayurveda treatment pcos get cure. So go for ayurveda line of treatment. Dietry advice 1) avoid sprouted, fermentrated, junk food. 2) avoid stress level. 3) if you are non-vegetarian than avoid non veg food exceptional is chicken & mutton soup. 4) stop excess of salt.

For healthy weight gain, 1. Have small frequent meals at 2-3 hrs intervals containing foods rich in nutrient & calorie density (concentrated food low in volume) like paneer paratha, cheese-potato sandwich, dates-almonds milkshake, peanut chikki, til ladoo, banana kheer, atta halwa/gond ladoo, thicker atta-maida rotis with ghee, rice with ghee, cow/buffalo milk with skim milk powder, homemade cereal malt with milk & sugar, premix with soup, fruit juice, sugarcane juice, dry fruits, soyabean cutlet/roll, fruit lassi, egg curry/omlette/egg scramble/french toast, fatty fish, thick creamy chicken soup 2. Drink 3 litres water daily (but not with or just before meal) 3. Avoid junk foods & empty calorie snacks 4. Enjoy meals in a peaceful environment without distractions 5. Eat fast & in bigger utensils 6. Practice strength exercises-bench press, squats, push up, etc daily to increase lean mass only not causing any weight loss. 7. Get a thyroid profile test done to rule out hyperthyroidism.

You are keeping very tense, stressed. A psychologist can help by counselling and relaxation exercises. Hypnotic relaxation may be very helpful. Do pranayaam to ease neck pain, etc.

Home Remedy- Make a powdered preparation of dried ginger root, long pepper, black pepper, and black salt in equal quantities. Have 1 teaspoon of this mixture at bedtime with lukewarm water and 2 to 3 teaspoons of psyllium husk. Treatment- 1-Take pranacharya virechan churna or triphala churna 1 tsf in warm water before sleep at night. 2-take arogyavardhinii vati 1- tab after lunch and dinner. Diet-take 5-7 munakkas with milk. Eat papaya in fruits .avoid tea. Coffee.spicy food. Fermented food. Junk food. Avoid alcohol consumption.

Sir, Do yoga, Breathing exercises and meditation. Eat lot of vegetables and fruits. Drink lots of water. Go for brisk walks. Do you have any medical ailments. How is your sleep, appetite. Get back to me, if no improvement with these activities, for further advice.

Neck pain in your situation could be most likely due to: 1. Poor ergonomics at workplace causing neck muscles strain. 2. Degeneration of cervical spine due to improper weight distribution during computer work. You should follow good ergonomics at workplace to get relief and avoid neck pain. 1 desk should have sufficient knee room so that one can sit close to the front of the desk. 2. The monitor should be placed at arms length 3. Desk should be at a height such that the wrists are maintained in a neutral position when using a computer with the shoulders relaxed. 4. The chair should be adjustable, padded to maintain the spine in a vertical or slightly reclined position. If the chair does not provide adequate low back support then a lumbar cushion should be used. 5. While seated on chair, the hips and knees should be on same level and feet should be flat on the floor. 6. Arm rests should support the elbows and forearms 7. The monitor should be positioned directly in front. 8. The top of monitor should be at eye level. It's preferable to use a computer instead of a laptop from ergonomics point of view. 9. In between work take breaks at 30 -60 mins and perform neck, shoulder, back stretches or take a simple walk.

If you have recurrent attack of headache 1. It could be a tension headache due to anxiety/stress, depression inadequate sleep, low bp/high bp, migraine, prolonged use of cell phone/computer, chronic anaemia, refractive error, chronic sinusitis, organic brain lesion 2. Avoid stress, physical and mental exertion, have adequate sound sleep for 7-8 hours daily in the night 3. Go for regular exercise 4. Practice yoga, meditation and deep breathing exercise to calm your mind, control your emotion and relieve stress 5. Check for refractive error, sinusitis hemoglobin, bp 6. Avoid prolonged use of cell phone/computer 7. Consult neurologist to rule out other causes of headache, if required take a ct scan of head to exclude any brain lesion 8. If it is migraine you have to take migraine prophylactic drug after consulting neurologist.

Hye. Supplements are to be taken only when your body's needs are high or if you have a deficiency of a particular nutrient. Supplements do not replace meals or a healthy diet. A supplement can only be as good as your diet is. So, if your basic diet is not good supplementation is not of much use. And in fact if supplements are just randomly added to the diet without evaluating the body's needs, it can cause mild to severe side effects.

If you are getting an erection and usually normal in sexual aspects then relax you can marry and enjoy sexual relationships. To begin with first start working on personality and overall fitness. Dear lybrateuser, -the burning sensation in your chest is due to acidity -avoid fried, spicy & junk food, aiso reduce consumption of tea, coffee to 1-2 cups per day, avoid alcohol & tobacco if you consume the same -do not skip breakfast & other meals, have 5-6 small meals including snacks in between main meals, chew your food properly, have dinner 2-3 hrs before bedtime, do not lye down immediately after meals -have 8-10 glasses of water a day to wash away the toxins & for proper digestion -do regular exercise for 20-30 min a day, also do yoga for 10-15 min as it is good for digestion -take syrup digene gel, 2 teaspoonful 20 min before every meal -also reduce stress & sleep well for 7-8 hrs in the night this reduces acidity -reduce your vit d intake after consulting your doctor as it will improve your appetite.

Pain and Sleep: A Disastrous Cycle

Pain and sleep together contribute to be a dreadful cycle. Pain and sleep are two aspects, which go hand in hand. The effect of the pain coupled with stress and tension causes detrimental effects on sleep.

  • Relationship between the two: Studies show that more than half the percentage of people with chronic pain disorders suffer from sleep problems and more than half of insomniac patients suffer from pain. Pain affects the duration of sleep and pain inflicted people have poor sleep hours. Pain also affects the quality of sleep. While trying to fall asleep, environmental factors such as light, external noise and temperature affect a pain inflicted person more. People suffering from pain have much less control on sleep. They worry about their disrupted sleep cycle, which causes more stress.
  • Medications: Medications which treat chronic pain sometimes are responsible for causing sleep disturbances because of the presence of certain chemicals. It is perceived that pain medications would reduce pain and sleep would improve. However, this is not the case and people who take medicines for pain treatment, suffer from disrupted sleep. Sleeping pills do not work effectively in people suffering from pain.
  • Effects: Lack of sleep affects your quality of life to a great extent, especially when it is due to pain. Lack of sleep combined with pain will affect any kind of work you undergo and your performance will be dull and sloppy. There will be a degradation in the person's mood, activities and even relationships are affected.
  • The disastrous cycle: Sleep and pain create a dangerous cycle. The relationship between sleeplessness and pain is reciprocal in the sense that pain affects and causes difficulty in sleeping, in a continuous pattern and poor sleep further enhances or affects pain. Pain causes disturbances in sleep, gives rise to stress and fatigue and leads to even more pain, which again affects sleep. This process keeps on occurring like a cycle.
  • Treatment: For treatment of sleeping disorders due to pain, both the aspects should be addressed. A multidisciplinary approach has to be taken. You can try interventional treatment procedures, which will help you to decrease your level of pain. Along with this, you should consult a behavioral health specialist to get the best remedies on coping with stress. Working these two out will result in decreased pain, decreased stress and your normal sleep will be revitalized.

Pain and sleep together work like a cycle. Excess pain leads to reduced sleep, which causes more pain in return and the cycle carries on. Proper remedies should be taken to get rid of the pain, which would revive good sleep.
