I'm feel unhealthy over the last few days and I'm saying it because I feel that I'm not taking a fair enough diet (very less proteins, average fruits & vegetables). Currently I'm suffering from Sciatic nerve pain and I was advised to do Strengthening exercises. However, I'm really concerned about other lack of nutrients. Is there any Tests in specific that I can take to find out what nutrition should I take in particular to fulfill a balanced healthy diet?

Hello you need not worry. No need of getting tests done as such. Try to take healthy meals. Take 3 main meals and 2 side meals. Don't skip breakfast. Sleep for 7-9 hours per night. Avoid fried foods, sweets, carbonated drinks and processed foods. Include whole grains, sprouts, seasonal fruits and vegetables, salads, milk and milk products. Drink plenty of water. Snack on fruits and nuts. Take flaxseed powder 1 tsp with lukewarm water on empty stomach for a week. Thank you.

I am 26 years old and I have suffering from back pain after sleep so what can I do ?

Hi, thanks for your query and welcome to lybrate. I am Dr. Akshay from fortis hospital, new delhi. You are very young to actually have persistent back pains. If you have localized back pain with no other symptoms like radiating leg pain, neurological symptoms like numbness, weakness, paresthesias etc and with no other associated constitutional symptoms like evening rise in temperature, loss of weight, excessive sweating at night etc, then you can start with following recommendations for initial period of 2-3 weeks: - to maintain proper posture of your back while working and sleeping - if pain is more then you can take a short course of an anti-inflammatory medication like tab etoshine or paracetamol or one which suits you - physical therapy initially under supervision of a trained physiotherapist and then to continue at home - adequate calcium & vitamin d intake if levels are low in body - ice packs can applied if your pain is acute, then hot fomentation can be done at home - analgesic spray for local application can be used and is easily available. - avoid lifting heavyweight/ acute forward bending in mornings etc we will observe you for next 2-3 weeks how you respond to this conservative management protocol. If you are not feeling better, then we will have to get some investigations like, dynamic x rays of lower back and few blood tests for evaluation. Hi causes of foot swelling: lymphedema collection of lymphatic fluid. Venous insufficiency in which blood inadequately moves up the veins. Infection. Dibetuc neuropathy deep vein thrombosis. All thses condition need to be examine properly through imagine and blood test. Swelling in ankel could also be due to underlying disease like hypertension and diabetes kindly meet a doctor.

Back and leg pain for 3 to 4 years needs evaluation and treatment. X ray cannot identify conditions like intervertebral disc prolapse or other causes of back pain. You need to undergo mri scan of lumbo sacral spine after a trial of conservative therapy as discussed below. 1. Maintain proper posture while walking or sitting. Do not slouch or hunch. Take breaks between prolonged standing or sitting and change posture. Arrange your office desk and chair ergonomically 2. Back stretching and strengthening exercise to be done daily. 3. Walking helps to maintain spine health. 4. Keep pillow between knees or behind knees at night time. 5. Take healthy diet rich in calcium. 6. Do not bend forward to lift weights. 7. Lose weight if you are obese. 8. Take over the counter painkillers like ibuprofen if pain is severe. 9. Apply analgesic cream over back and do warm water fomentation. Back pain accompanied by tingling, numbness, weakness of legs and loss of urine or stool control needs urgent medical attention.

Apply prasarini oil or pranacharya restopain oil on your affected part then give hot fomentation twice a day. Take mahayograj guggul 1-1 tab twice a day. Take maharasnadi kwath 2-2 tsf twice a day. Avoid tea. Coffee. Junk food. Fermented food. Spicy food. Rice. Walk for atleast 30 minutes a day. Do pranayama early morning. Sleep for atleast 7 hrs per day.

Mam, you could be having weakening of bones and low vitamin d levels. So get the following blood tests fasting- vitamin d3, uric acid, calcium, phosphorous, alkaline phosphatase along with x ray pelvis with both his ap view and bone densitometry 3 sites which is a scan to detect bone weakening. Revert back with reports.

Kindly show me a photograph & digital x rays of affected part. Rule out diabetes & vit. D deficiency or any other metabolic disorder. Sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick matress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomantation. Ibuprofen 200mg od & sos x 5days. Bio d3 max 1tab od x10. Do neck, back & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. You will need other supportive medicines also. Make sure you are not allergic to any of the medicines you are going to take. Do reply back for detailed treatment plan. Do not ignore. It could be beginning of a serious problem.

How long well tennis elbow take to heal if not healing soon enough what to do I'm 31 years old.

Tennis elbow can take from two weeks to 3 months after initiation of treatment to heal. You need to avoid or reduce activities that produce the pain and take an nsaid as per your doctor's advice. Avoid activities that produce squeezing, springing movements or repetitive activities of the elbow and hand. Avoid lifting weight for a minimum of one month. A topical gel eg volini gel applied over the painful part can help. If the above do not help, you might need an injection on the painful area or an a key hole procedure in your elbow to debrided the painful portion. Hope that helps, regards.

Hello Mr. Lybrate-user, - look at what is causing your neck pain - change the posture of looking at mobile/ pc usage - use soft and thin pillow - don't be in same posture of looking/reading for long time - apply ksheerabala taila to the neck and keep hot water bag over there for 15min. Do this for 10days. Internal medications can be decided looking at its results. Thank you.

I am having pain near around left side of my right knee veins since one week making it difficult for me to sit on floor or walk properly. The pain is only in and around left side of knee cap (not on joint) Sometimes the pain is unbearable and sometimes light but it has rarely stopped. Doc had suggested two blood tests. Results are as under: RF (serum) is 57.7 (Method: Immunoturbidimetric test) (20 considered normal) And Anti CCP is Less than 7 (Less than 17 is normal) (Method: Electro-Chemiluminescence) Is this RA? I am worried. Please advise.

Rheumatoid arthritis generally presents with symmetrical joint involvement, both sides of body, along with joint swelling and morning stiffness of joints, lasting for more than an hour. With these absent, and a negative anti-CCP, it is unlikely, not impossible to be RA. Maybe an excessive strain on knee cap, that requires avoiding aggravating activity, hot packs, painkiller ointment and physiotherapy. Your doctor may prescribe some painkillers to tide over acute phases. If there is no response in a week, you may opt for radiological tests. If you are doubtful about RA, you could see a rheumatologist.

Avoid sitting Cross legged. Avoid Squatting- Quadriceps Exercises- Lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain. Core Strengthening Exercise- Straight Leg Raised With Toes Turned Outward, repeat 10 times, twice a day.

It is chronic pain which get aggravated especially when you walk more and is better with rest. I have a pain in my wrist. It started coz my arm was in improper position while sleeping. I have been applying moov since a week. The pain has not reduced yet. What should I do?

It requires detailed investigation and examination. Preliminary investigations suggested: hb, tlc, dlc, esr, blood sugar fasting & pp, uric acid vit d urine r/e x-ray of the affected part. Anyway it may be tried sleep on a hard bed with soft bedding on it. Spring beds, folding beds or thick mattress are harmful use no pillow under the head. Do hot fomantation paracetamol 250mg od & sos x 5days. Caldikind plus 1tab od x10. Do neck, back, knee & general exercises. It may have to be further investigated. Do not ignore it. Let it not become beginning of a bigger problem. Make sure that patient is not allergic to any of the medicines that he/she is going to take. If it does not give relief in 4-5days, inform.
