If the vertigo does subside with symptomatic treatment, you have to go for investigations. Most of the time it is because of bppv.

I have allergy for old dust cold nd all. Continuous sneeze if started. Also I started snoring recently. Using duonase for stopping sneeze. But after some 10 days, sneezing will start as usual.

BHMS
Homeopath, Murshidabad
Dear Lybrate User, Dust allergy occurs due to the production of histamine in blood. This production of histamine is provoked by the entry of certain foreign substance in our respiratory system through the air we inhale. A detailed case taking along with some blood test results are required to diagnose the proper underlying cause behind dust allergy. Please conduct a laboratory test of your blood for TC, DC, ESR & IgE. Revert back with the results & consult me privately via Lybrate. In the mean-time you can take the following medications:- 1) 5 drops of Homoeopathic PYROGEN 1000, thrice daily in empty stomach. 2) 30 drops of Homoeopathic Mother Tincture CASSIA SOPH Q, thrice daily, after meals, in a glass of water.

Gm Dr. I am suffering from Rhinitis & frequent sneezing with sore throat, can you tell me medicine for this?
1. Do steam inhalation with karvol plus inhalant capsule 2-3 times daily 2. Put otrivin nasal drop one drop/otrivin nasal spray 1 spray three times daily 3. Take one tablet oflevo cetrizine at bed time 4. If you have recurrent attack of sneezing, you may be having sinusitis or allergic rhinitis 5. Take x ray/ct scan of pns to confirm sinusitis and consult ent specialist for advice and treatment 6. If sinusitis is excluded, then it is due to allergic rhinitis, do an allergy test after consulting allergy specialist/immunologist to find out the cause of allergy and follow the treatment and advice accordingly.

Everyday morning when I wake up I find my nose closed. As the day progresses it gradually opens. But not totally. Please advice what can I do ?

MS - ENT
ENT Specialist, Rajkot
You can use otrivin nasal drops to open nose, but it is not advisable to use this drops/spray for more than 1 week. You may have enlarged turbinates or deviated nasal septum. It will be informative if you can take a photo of your nose in such a way that I can show inside of your nasal cavity. For proper visibility of interior of your nose, first cut the nasal hairs and take photo with flash. Send it to me so I can guide you further.

The problem started with throat infection and pressure in head. The pressure starts from neck and with in a few hours it covers entire head. I feel uncomfortable and can't concentrate on work properly. Throat infection gone but I still feel head pressure till date. I live in Mumbai. I contacted doctors he suggested renal and lipid profile test. Cholesterol is slightly high. Triglyceride - 244.70 < 200 mg/dl gpo-pap Vldl - 48.94 (5-35) mg/dl calculated. Renal profile is ok. Near vision is slightly low but as per ophthalmologist spectacles not required. I am 40 year male & work in IT sector before computer 10-12 hours per day. My physician suggested to change your routine and take high fibre food to control cholesterol, But I still not comfortable due to head pressure. It is not like starting days but not completely vanished. I took wikoryl tab for 7 days and betadine gargle. Any expert opinion would be appreciated. Thank you.

Your headache seems to be related to stress. You should include a healthy fibre rich diet, plenty of water, adequate rest and some leisure activities in your schedule. One most important thing that you need is fresh air, exercise, or at least breathing exercises. If you can start doing this, there is a very high probability that you will be relieved of your headache. In addition, consult a psychologist to help you resolve any emotional or psychological reasons that maybe bothering you. Lifestyle changes are a must.

Sinus - How Does It Affect Your Overall Health?

Sinus - How Does It Affect Your Overall Health?

Any ailment can cause a breakdown of one's overall well-being due to the onslaught of related symptoms, and sinus problem is no different. Sinusitis refers to inflammation or swelling of the tissue that lines the sinus, which are passages filled with air and lie in the nasal tract.

Sometimes, these passages get blocked with germs, fluid and other elements that can give rise to infections and allergic reactions. Here are the ways in which this condition can affect your health:

1. Related ailments: One of the most common outcomes of sinus blockage is common cold, which can happen when the passages do not get proper movement of air. Further, it can also cause allergic rhinitis which is also known as hay fever and comes with its own set of symptoms like a runny nose, blocked nose and ears, watery eyes and other signs. A build-up of nasal polyps can also take place in the blocked path of the sinus, while the nasal cavity can also shift, causing a deviated septum

2. Pain: We have many sinuses that are located in various parts of our head, including the areas above and below the eyes. As a part of the sinus attack, one may experience pain and fluid fullness in these areas. These regions can ache when there is a sinus infection. This pain can also be caused by the dull pressure exerted by inflammation, and the pain can then travel down to jaws, teeth and even between eyes.

3. Headaches: The constant pressure and persistent pain in the various areas containing the sinus can lead to long term headaches which will be at their worst in the mornings. This is due to the fact that the fluids have been accumulating throughout the night. These headaches can get worse if there is a change in the temperature.

4. Congestion: Congestion is also a common symptom of sinus infection. The swollen sinuses can lead to constrictions in the nasal passage, which can obstruct normal breathing. This will lead to congestion, which can also affect the senses of taste and smell.

5. Cough and discharge: A patient suffering from a sinus infection may end up blowing his or her nose more often than normal. This will usually happen because a yellowing greenish discharge will drain into the nasal passages on a regular basis during the infection. When this discharge bypasses the nasal tract and reaches the throat, it can also cause persistent coughing. It is best to ask for medical intervention and practice steaming to relive the painful symptoms of this condition.
