Good Morning, Medication treatment for depression needs to be intensively monitored and the dose titrated up for optimal outcomes and therefore you need to visit with your psychiatrist when she needs to be seen by one. Also your mother may need an increase in the dose of medications and therefore you may need to contact your psychiatrist as soon as possible.

Hi lybrate-user, thank you for seeking help, its very important to know what kind of fear is she actually going through. The thoughts and emotions that she is experiencing which is keeping her awake all night. When we explore that in more detail treatment guidance can be better. One of the body's natural anxiety coping mechanisms is sleep. When you sleep, your mind and body relax, so the next day you're sharper and able to withstand some of life's daily stresses. The irony is that anxiety can actually make it harder to sleep. Sleep problems are extremely common in those with persistent stress, and in many cases it can actually cause a cycle that makes it harder to overcome anxiety in the future. Yet there are tips and strategies you can use to get more rest with anxiety. Consider the following: journal writing the first, and arguably most important strategy to try, is journal writing. People see journal writing as important for kids, but writing your thoughts in a journal has an effect on your ability to sleep as well. Your brain is a fascinating thing, and when your mind knows that you have written a persistent thought down (one that keeps you awake), it will feel better about letting the thought go, knowing that it's in a permanent place. Any time you have a thought that won't leave your mind, try writing it in a journal. Herbal sleep supplements depending on any medicine - including herbal medicine - is not ideal for those trying to overcome anxiety. But herbs like valerian root, kava, and passionflower are very popular for those that need to get more rest. It's still a good idea to talk to your doctor before trying any herbal supplement, but you may find the results to be a big help. Daily jogging at least 3 to 4 hours before you go to sleep (and possibly as early as the morning), try to get out for a long jog. Jogging is actually a natural anxiety reduction strategy, and one that releases endorphins that calm the mind and body. But beyond that, jogging tires the muscles, so when you go to bed they will be much less tense. Mental distractions can also be beneficial, especially for heavy sleepers. Some people find that turning on radios, podcasts, or television sets, and putting the volume as low as possible so that you can barely make out the words can be helpful. Your mind tries to listen to the distraction, causing it to stop focusing on the stressful thoughts, and ultimately you're able to fall asleep. Take warm water bath or glass of milk before going to bed. Consult for same with detailed symptoms. All the best.

Dear, tobacco is the most addictive substance known to man. It is also carcinogenic and therefore it needs to be kept away from human consumption. Your problem is tobacco abuse and addiction. The best method to stop tobacco is to have will power and self belief. Tobacco chewing gums, lozenges and patches are available across medical shops to manage your tobacco craving. In any case the first step is to take a strong decision about quitting. You may consult a psychologist for substance abuse counseling. Take care.

I am 54 years old lady .since 2 month I suffering from ocd. E.g if dust in touches my sofa I wippe sofa.

MBBS, DPM
Psychiatrist, Bangalore
Apart from what Dr. Akshata Bhat has advised, assess your self, how much you are preoccupied with dusting off the sofa. What will happen if you do NOT dust the sofa? Some of the dusting obsessions may be helpful. They may be a trait in you. It may NOT be a disorder. So do NOT diagnose yourself. Take a consultation with a psychiatrist.

Dear lybrate-user, welcome to lybrate. Anger and aggression are emotions. Anger comes when you become irritated. Irritation happens when you don't like something, or when something is repeated. As anger is an emotion, it should be vent out. You should be able to throw anger out instead of controlling it. But more perfect will be, know the frustrating situations and stop being emotional. If practiced properly, you will not get irritated at those circumstances at all. Those techniques are much easier to understand. I suggest anger management therapy. Take care.

Dear lybrate-user, Tobacco is addictive. Cigarette also contains 4000+ carcinogenic chemicals other than nicotine. Nicotine and other chemicals can cause cancer of different types and areas. Throat cancer, mouth cancer, lung cancer, stomach cancer and brain problems can result. Over and above smoking may also increase the risk factor of heart attack and brain stroke. Please quit smoking. The best method is to leave it and continue with your will power. There are other methods like Nicotine Replacement therapy and pharmacotherapy combined. If you’re ready to stop smoking and willing to get the support you need, you can recover from nicotine addiction and abuse abuse—no matter how bad the addiction or how powerless you feel. The first step in treating nicotine addiction is accepting that you have a problem. Confronting an addiction and accepting responsibility for your actions isn’t easy. But it’s a necessary step on the road to treatment and recovery. You should then consult a psychiatrist / psychologist who fill follow this treatment. 1. Detoxification using medicines. 2. Behavior modification with the help of therapies. 3. Counseling. 4. Medication to sustain and 5. Long term support. These given steps are essential for any addict to get effectively rid of smoking. Therefore, you need to stick to the treatment plan and cooperate with your psychiatrist / psychologist. Mind power building therapy, motivational therapy etc should help you doing so. Take care.

I have a problem of forgotten things. How to coup up with it? Its a big deal for me. Because it affects my study.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
Strategies for Remembering 1. Become interested in what you're learning. We're all better remembering what interests us. Few people, for example, have a difficult time remembering the names of people they find attractive. If you're not intrinsically interested in what you're learning or trying to remember, you must find a way to become so. 2. Find a way to leverage your visual memory. You'll be surprised by how much more this will enable you to remember. For example, imagine you're at a party and are introduced to five people in quick succession. How can you quickly memorize their names? Pick out a single defining visual characteristic of each person and connect it to a visual representation of their name, preferably through an action of some kind. Remember: Memory is predominantly visual. 3. Create a mental memory tree. If you're trying to memorize a large number of facts, find a way to relate them in your mind visually with a memory tree. Construct big branches first, then leaves. Branches and leaves should carry labels that are personally meaningful to you in some way, and the organization of the facts ("leaves") should be logical.. 4. Associate what you're trying to learn with what you already know. It seems the more mental connections we have to a piece of information, the more successful we'll be in remembering it. This is why using mnemonics. Write out the items to be memorized over and over and over. 5. When reading for retention, summarize each paragraph in the margin. This requires you to think about what you're reading, recycle it, and teach it to yourself again. Even take the concepts you're learning and reason forward with them; apply them to imagined novel situations, which creates more neural connections to reinforce the memory. 6. Do most of your studying in the afternoon. Though you may identify yourself as a "morning person" or "evening person" at least one Study. suggests your ability to memorize isn't influenced as much by what time of day you perceive yourself to be most alert but by the time of day you actually study—afternoon appearing to be the best. 7. Get adequate sleep to consolidate and retain memories. Not just at night after you've studied but the day, you study as well. Far better to do this than to stay up cramming all night for an exam.

She irritates too much and during irritation she starts abusing aloud with so harsh sound mainly when we stop to wash hand or even talk about it. She washes hand for a long than normally we do she is having fear about contamination and she always fears to health due to contamination, so to avoid contamination she used to wash hand to avoid it a lot. Anger is the worst condition of her behaviour since she becomes bully that time abuse badly and when she calm regret it. When she irritates she starts washing hand cloth and things around her vey cautiously and repetitively which irritate us badly. Sometime she occupied bathroom for 2 to 3 hour and before and after bath also washes hand in anger and when she calm down then only comes out and for all these irritating behaviour blames other. She always want to listen her favor in any circumstances. Always wants praise for self satisfaction. It has been occurring for more than two year but she controlled it herself two months back at much extent, but again now a days starting. Which disturb us badly due to her abusive behaviour. Sad part of it is yhat she never ready to accept that she is having problem and never want to get treatment due to felling embarrassment. So please guide us to overcome it if it can be treated online.

MD - Psychiatry
Psychiatrist, Chennai
She is suffering from OCD, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, from what you say. It can be easily treated. Consult a psychiatrist for remedy. It can also be treated online, you need to take SSRI group of medications, there will be wonderful recovery. OCD is due to reduced serotonin transmission in mind and the obsessive thoughts of contamination, and compulsive hand washing occurs.
