Besides having effect on our lungs, smoking or smokeless tobacco can also cause oral diseases like oral cancer, gingivitis, periodontis and tooth decay.

I have pain in lower canines only and not anywhere else in mouth and I have took pain killer twice tomorrow but the pain is not going. I even stopped having sour food and rice. But pain is persistent from 4-5 days.

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
Sir, medication will not solve or cure the problem which is causing pain. Pain means an infection may have spread deep inside the tooth, to the inner layers. It could be decay, which is the most common cause for the pain. Please visit a dentist to get a permanent solution for the pain.

Dairy products, soft breads, softer grains, sea food and soft meat, soft cooked vegetables and many more are braces friendly foods i.e. which can be eaten without any difficulty even when one is undertaking the orthodontic treatment.

My teeth colour is light yellow. How can I make them white. I tried many toothpastes but didn't workout. Suggest me a good way to do it. And also if I brush in hot water will the yellowness increase or decrease or it doesn't have any effect? pls tell me. Thank you:):

You can get bleaching done for once for removal of your yellowish teeth. This help brighten the teeth. Toothpastes won't help much.

I have Gingivitis and I get unfit for this in army during medical verification. So give me some helpful tips to cure this in between 20 days.

MDS Prosthodontics, BDS
Dentist, Hyderabad
Gingivitis is the earliest form of gum disease that can resolve with good oral hygiene. Your dentist will evaluate your mouth during a dental cleaning appointment and removes any plaque and tartar that is building up on your teeth. When a person has gingivitis, the goal is to rid the gums of inflammation and restore them to a healthy pink color. Although you have been brushing your teeth for decades, the correct technique is most important. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and place it at a 45-degree angle against your gum line and massage the gums in a back and forth motion. Then, move the brush up and down and back and forth motion using short strokes to clean the outer and inner surfaces of your teeth and the chewing surfaces too. Be gentle with brushing. Spend at least two minutes brushing and replace your toothbrush when you see the bristles becoming frayed. Don't forget to rinse using warm water with salt. Vitamin c makes wounds heal faster. It may not cure the gingivitis itself, but this supplement will help bleeding gums to resolve.

My baby is two months old. Her tongue and inside gums has become white. She is refusing to take milk. Please advise.

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), F.I.A.M.S. (Pediatrics)
Pediatrician, Muzaffarnagar
White deposit in mouth is usually fungal infection. Apply or just pour 2 to 3 drops of candid mouth paint over the tounge 4 to 5 times in a day. After response, it may be continued 3 times in a day for 1 to 2 monts. Do not scrap or scratch white deposit. If no response in 3 to 4 days, consult pediateician. In case, if she is refusing feed which I suppose she is not able to suckle instead of refusing, give expressed breast milk with spoon for proper nutrition. If baby is not able to swallow, consult immiditely. Exclussive breast milk is strongly advisible up to 6 monts of age.

Doctor I done scaling my teeth, cavity, one teeth remove upper side then also I am suffering from bad breath. What to do tell me.

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Dentist, Chennai
Hi, Eat a healthy, balanced diet and avoid eating strongly flavoured or spicy food. Cut down on coffee. Drink plenty of water to help prevent your mouth becoming dry. Chew sugar-free gum after eating, to stimulate the flow of saliva. This will help clean away any remaining food particles. Gastritis, lung & sinus infection may also be the cause of bad smell in the mouth. 90% of bad breath is due to a dirty tongue. So use rtongue scraper regularly, If your bad breath is caused by a gastrointestinal problem, such as an H. Pylori infection or gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) you may be referred to a gastroenterologist.

7 Best Homeopathic Remedies For Toothache

BHMS, MD - Homeopathy

7 Best Homeopathic Remedies For Toothache

Odontalgia or severe toothache is characterized by extreme pain or inflammation of the tooth and its surrounding areas. The excruciating pain that you might experience may stem as a result of gum infection, tooth decay, infection of the dental pulp, abscess and due to certain other reasons like extraction or filling of the teeth. Another key reason for extreme toothache is the fact that a number of heart problems, such as myocardial infarction and angina tend to affect your dental health negatively.

While some toothaches might occur sporadically, they might pose a danger against your overall well-being in the long run, if the condition is left untreated. Homeopathy can serve as the perfect antidote to your toothache problems and its effects are noted to be significantly higher when it comes down to the question of long-term consumption. Here is a list of homeopathic medications that might prove to be a pain alleviator for your dental complications:

  1. Hepar Sulph and Silicea: Root abscess responds positively, to both Hepar Sulph and Silicea. For fever accompanied with occasional chills due to severe toothache, Hepar Sulph is considered to be the perfect remedy and tends to significantly decrease the level of swelling and pain. On the other hand, if your face swells and there is an incidence of gum inflammation, Silicea must be used to numb the effects of root abscess.
  2. Plantago: Plantago is noted to be the most commonly prescribed medicine for toothaches and for treating sensitivity. The pain extending to the ears from the teeth receives maximum relief due to the effects of Plantago. It might have to be taken internally or applied externally depending on the severity of the toothache and its accompanying conditions.
  3. Staphysagria: Sensitivity is best taken care of by Staphysagria and resolves the problem of worsening of toothache, when any drink or food is consumed. Bleeding gums and excess salivation is also another aspect that is looked after by Staphysagria.
  4. Arnica: Tooth extraction and filling may often lead to the consequence of nerve-wrecking pain in the gums and the affected area. For this, Arnica is prescribed to assuage the nerve pain and must be taken in along with Hypericum, another homeopathy medicine, for best results.
  5. Merc Sol: Problems of halitosis and excessive salivation that tend to occur simultaneously with toothaches can be solved by a dosage of Merc Sol. Bleeding gums, looseness of teeth and sensitivity are all taken care of by the same medication.
  6. Hecla Lava: For jaw swells along with toothache, you must always opt for Hecla Lava. The effect is instantaneous and relieves both swelling and pain.
  7. Chamomilla: Chamomilla serves as the best remedial homeopathic medicine for easing heat sensitivity that is likely to worsen the existing toothache. Drinks and food, either hot or cold, can then be consumed easily because of the numbing effect of this medicine.

I have decaying teeth with cavities. Suggest to get supplement for stronger teeth or medication.

BDS
Dentist,
There is no supplement available to protect teeth from cavities. Keep your teeth clean, brush twice a day, also flossing should be started because it helps cleaning in between two teeth.

Is it preferable to get dental implant if rest three teeth (from pair of four back teeth) are treated with root canal and covered by cap or should I go with bridge.

Certified BPS Dentist
Dentist, Trivandrum
It is your decision in implant you can do that one tooth without touching nearby tooth. Cost will high with implants, bridge will be less costlier.

I have oral sub mucous fibrosis .my oral surgeon tested and he said that its can be treat by medicine .problem is that I am getting sore throat from some day what will be the cause for that.

MDS - Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

Hello, Quit habits strictly. Kindly consult an oral & maxillo facial surgeon in person for further suggestion. We need more investigations with clinical examination to decide upon treatment. You may need conservative or surgical management for mouth opening depending upon the stage of OSMF .Advise full mouth opening, ballooning exercise & side to side movement of the jaw. Wrap 25 to 30 ice-cream sticks, make a bundle, put it between upper & lower front teeth for 15 minutes thrice a day increase 1 sticks each day. As for now Take this medicines T.SM fibre-30nos, once a day for a month, C. Becosules 5 cap (enriched with Vitamin A, Vitamin B & Vitamin E specifically), for five days in the morning after meals. Advance procedures can be done with laser. You may consult me in person.

I am 32 years old my problem is my mouth and teeth. Mouth smell is very bad smelling. In the morning time its smells too badplz suggest me medicine. My weight is 90 kgs.

Dentist, Gurgaon
Morning bad breath is a common condition but it goes after you brush. you can prevent this by brushing at night along with antibacterial mouth rinses after dinner because at night we keep mouth close for about 6-9 hrs. this is enough time for bacteria to act over this food lodged over and between the teeth and hence cause bad breath. note that there should be a gap of atleast half an hour between brushing and antibacterial mouth rinses. if this problem remains persistent during daytime also, then visit a dentist for professional cleaning of your teeth.
