Hi, take rauvolfia 1x, 2 tabs daily morning empty stomach. Drink plenty of liquids and cut down your fat, salt and sugar intake. Go for a morning walk daily at least for 30 minutes. Take a sound sleep and try to avoid anger. Home remedy to control high bp:- 1. Eat one or two crushed garlic cloves daily. You can simply crush them with your hands. Crushing garlic cloves creates hydrogen sulfide, a compound that promotes good blood flow, removes gas and reduces the pressure on the heart. If you do not like eating raw garlic or if it causes a burning sensation, then take it along with a cup of milk. You can also mix five or six drops of garlic juice in four teaspoons of water and take it twice a day. Take syzygium 1x, 2 tabs thrice daily before meals to control your blood sugar level. Keep a regular check on your blood pressure and blood sugar level. Take care. Take care.

My parathyroid hormones level is 172.8 what is the solution? Feeling problem in breathing. Please advise.

C.S.C, D.C.H, M.B.B.S
General Physician,
A higher-than-normal level may occur with: Disorders that increase phosphate or phosphorous levels in the blood, such as chronic kidney disease Failure of the body to respond to PTH (pseudohypoparathyroidism) Lack of calcium, which may be due to not eating enough calcium, not absorbing calcium in the gut, or losing too much calcium in your urine Pregnancy or breastfeeding (uncommon) Swelling in the parathyroid glands, called primary hyperparathyroidism Tumors in the parathyroid gland, called adenomas Vitamin D disorders, including not enough sunlight in older adults and problems absorbing, breaking down, and using vitamin D in the body. Parathyroid crisis must be treated quickly by replacing lost body fluids and removing the overactive parathyroid tissue. Blood tests — Hyperparathyroidism is diagnosed based upon levels of blood calcium and parathyroid hormone (PTH). In most people with hyperparathyroidism, both levels are higher than normal. Medications to treat hyperparathyroidism include the following: Calcimimetics. A calcimimetic is a drug that mimics calcium circulating in the blood. The drug may trick the parathyroid glands into releasing less parathyroid hormone. This drug is sold as cinacalcet (Sensipar).

Lybrate-user, it appears your blood sugar levels are well controlled as evident from hba1c%. So you can eat fruits like papaya, orange, sweet lime, apple, guava, water melon, pear and pomegranate. You have avoid mango, banana, chikkoo and grapes. The quantity of fruits has to be limited about 100 g a day. Dates are too sweet, not recommended in diabetes. But 1 or 2 pieces may be taken.

My uric acid level is very high. Is it ok to eat rice and the pulses? I don't eat any type of meat. To drink water in plenty is a good option or not. Please prefer those things which I don't have to eat and I have to eat.

Normal Uric acid levels are 2.4-6.0 mg/dL (female) and 3.4-7.0 mg/dL (male) Some diets that are rich in purine end up causing an increased production of uric acid. In other cases, it may be due to a completely sedentary lifestyle. Less intake of water also may be to blame in some cases as water plays an important role in washing out the excess of the uric acid. Regular usage of some medicines also cause the uric acid levels to rise. Another important factor is being overweight as obese people are much more likely to get gout as compared to those who have normal weight. It is a tragedy of the modern world that the superior advertising and marketing power of the allopathic system of medicine has eclipsed the good and genuine work of Homeopathy. This is largely because Homeopathic system of medicine cannot compete with the money power of Allopathy. Just because allopathy does not have any cure for gout, patients tend to think that there is no cure for gout at all. People are not aware of the great work that Homeopathy can do in the cure of gout. I cannot stress enough here that homeopathic medicines are pretty effective at curing the acute as well as the chronic gout You can easily take an online consultation for further treatment guidance

I generally feels pain in the both feet and legs may be due to increased of uric acid. I tested my blood 6 months back, uric acid was increased up to 9 on that time. I take moderate quantity of wine on weekend only. I m 52 years male. Pl advise me.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
The first thing you should do is to eat foods that are high in fiber, This is because fiber rich foods absorb uric acid from the blood. Your kidneys then'throw' out the excess uric acid. Try to eat Oatmeal, Spinach, cauliflowers and Isabgol in milk if possible.  Please use olive oil to cook your food. Kindly avoid vegetable oils because they become unhealthy when heated twice. This leads to rancid fat in the body. These destroy vitamin E, that in turn controls uric acid levels. Olive oil also curbs uric acid by itself.  Vitamin C chewable tablets taken 500mg daily lower uric acid levels within 4 to 8 weeks.  Try to stop intake of sweets, cakes and pastries. Saturated fats are bad for you.  Many fruits have got potent anti-oxidant properties, like celery seeds, grapes and tomatoes, and these prevent harmful toxins from attacking your organs - releasing uric acid.

Mr. lybrate-user, There is no special diet for hypothyroidism. Only thing is a few foods need to be avoided like - soy beans, soy containing products, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, radish, peanuts, mustard, coffee. Also should avoid bakery items and other foods made from maida. Always whole grain products and whole grain flour for chapati and roti. Consume a good deal of fruits and green leafy vegetables. Take milk and milk products and eggs. Avoid red meat. Thanks.

Living With Diabetes - Diet, Lifestyle and Foot Care Changes You Must Ensure

Living With Diabetes - Diet, Lifestyle and Foot Care Changes You Must Ensure

Diabetes has become a modern lifestyle disease. Younger age groups are affected by it, and with changing lifestyles, it is only poised to get worse. While this may sound scary, the news to cheer about is that it can be controlled to a large extent. By making lifestyle changes, altering diet, and improving foot care, diabetes control can be planned effectively. Both the onset of the disease and disease progression and complications can be controlled to a large extent.

Read on to know some changes in terms of lifestyle, diet and foot care to improve diabetes:

  1. Diet: You are what you eat, so it is advisable that you plan your meal carefully. Eat healthy and you will stay healthy. Include a lot of fiber in the form of whole grains, fresh fruits and vegetables. Reduce oils, sugar, salt, white rice, refined flour, etc. Increase unsaturated fatty acids and reduce saturated fatty acids. Ensure you get the right amount of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals. Ensure ample hydration for the body. Get into a pattern of eating small, frequent meals and avoid binge eating. This goes a long way in controlling sugar levels in the body.
  2. Lifestyle: Engage in exercise, both to keep your weight under control and to improve the function of insulin. This also helps to keep body fat under control. Talk to your doctor about what routine would work for you. Whether it is jogging, running, cycling, swimming or plain walking, take a pick and regularly do it. Your goal should be to spend 30 to 45 mins every day on brisk walking (at least 5 days a week). This helps the function of insulin and also helps in reducing complications arising from diabetes. If you are a smoker, this is the time to quit – the hazards and the benefits are way too many. A healthy lifestyle with exercise also helps to manage stress, as the exercise helps in stress management and weight management too. Reduced severity of diabetes induces a feeling of well-being too.
  3. Foot care: One of the main complications of diabetes is known as diabetic neuropathy, where the nerves are affected. There is loss of sensation in the extremities and therefore a blister or a corn on the foot can go unnoticed and continue to grow. This may develop into an ulcer, which may then require extensive repair and heal at a slow pace because of diabetes. Diabetic people are advised to watch and wash the feet regularly, dry it nicely, watch between the toes, keep the toenails trimmed, smoothen out the calluses and corns, and use proper footwear. Go for foot exams once in six months or a year. Any small wound should be attended to by the doctor.

These are some simple ways to combat diabetes, which can be planned into your daily routine.
