In fixed prosthesis, we have options of dental implants in which we drill titanium screw into the bone let it fuse with the bone for 3-4 months and then fix artificial tooth over it. The other option is bridges in which support is taken from the adjoining teeth, their cutting is done and then bridge is cemented on to them like a cap. Definitely implant is expensive than bridges but after assessing the condition of your bone and health of the surrounding structures it can be suggested whats best for you. So consult the dentist and make up your mind for what you are comfortable with in every sense.

Bleeding is due to gum disease known as gingivitis with plaque deposition. Scaling is the best option for plaque removal. Rinse your mouth with chlorhexidine mouthwash three times a day after each meal. Keep your mouth clean.

How do I know I have dental erosion?
Dental erosion -Erosion usually shows up as hollows in the teeth and a general wearing away of the tooth surface and biting edges. This can expose the dentine underneath, which is a darker, yellower colour than the enamel. Because the dentine is sensitive, your teeth can also be more sensitive to heat and cold, or acidic foods and drinks.

Take your antibiotics as prescribed by your dentist. Relieve pain with anti-inflammatory medication that allows for reduction of inflamed periodontal fibres during your root canal recovery as tooth heals. Give the tooth that has had a root canal started or completed some time to settle down and become more comfortable. Avoid crunchy, hard or tough foods on a recently treated root canal tooth for several days afterward. Staying with softer foods and chewing on the opposite side are helpful suggestions to reduce pain after root canal treatment. Having a crown made for a root canal treated tooth helps to maintain it, keep it intact, functional, and less likely to develop pain from fracturing. The final step of a root canal is often placing a crown.

•Eat a healthy, balanced diet and avoid eating strongly flavoured or spicy food. •Cut down on sugary food and drink, as it can increase the amount of bacteria in your mouth. •Reduce your alcohol consumption. •Stop smoking. •Cut down on coffee. •Drink plenty of water to help prevent your mouth becoming dry. •Chew sugar-free gum after eating, to stimulate the flow of saliva. This will help clean away any remaining food particles. •Don't use toothpaste to clean your dentures, as it can scratch the surface and cause stains. •Clean your dentures thoroughly using soap and lukewarm water, denture cream or a denture-cleaning tablet. •Use a separate toothbrush to clean your dentures. •Make sure you visit your dentist for regular check-ups. Having regular dental check-ups will ensure that any plaque is removed from your teeth, particularly in areas that are difficult to reach. •Your dentist can recommend the best way to clean your teeth and gums, and point out areas you might be missing. They can also identify any signs of gum disease and ensure early treatment. •Gastritis, lung & sinus infection may also be the cause of bad smell in the mouth. 90% of bad breath is due to a dirty tongue. •If your bad breath is caused by a gastrointestinal problem, such as an H. Pylori infection or gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD), you may be referred to a gastroenterologist. •Persistent bad breath or a bad taste in the mouth may be a warning sign of gum (periodontal) disease. Gum disease is caused by the buildup of plaque on teeth. •You may need deep cleaning & fill tooth cavities with artificial enamel filling. Rinse your mouth thoroughly with a mouth wash until then. Advance procedures can be done with laser too.

Hello, you need to visit a dentist before taking any medications. Get an x-ray done. If there is a cavity, you need to get it filled. If there is infection to the roots, you need to get it treated.

I have sensitivity problem with my teeth when I drink cold water. So what should I do?

BDS
Dentist, Thane
I have sensitivity problem with my teeth when I drink cold water. So what should I do?
Hello, sensitivity is sharp, shooting type of sensation in teeth on contact of extremely cold or hot food which usually lasts for a few seconds and disappears completely after that and re-occurs again on such stimulus. Treatment plan for sensitive teeth goes as follows: 1. You can use any commercially available desensitizing toothpastes such as colgate sensitive or sensodyne as first line of treatment. If it reduces your sensitivity substantially you can continue brushing with toothpaste in long run to avoid further sensitivity. 2. If you don't get any relief from desensitizing toothpastes it indicates a more severe problem which will need further treatment like layering/coating the damaged tooth surface or filling of the tooth if there is big cavity or root canal treatment in extreme cases getting proper treatment leads to permanent relief in sensitivity problem.
