Diet For Poly Cystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD)

A rising number of teenage girls in the country are getting affected with Poly Cystic Ovarian Disease or PCOD. Though an advanced menarche has become very rampant these days, there are many young women who are suffering from a delay in menarche which in turn is leading to PCOD as opined by gynaecologists. Obesity and sedentary lifestyle among young people have caused a rapid doubling of PCOD cases in the past five to eight years.

Occurrence and Symptoms:

Gynaecologists report that they get at least 15 fresh instances of PCOD cases, and a considerable number of teenagers aged 16-17 are not getting their menarche. Such patients are recommended to take a strictly balanced diet which will help them to lose weight. Initially, their mothers think that they would experience their menarche in proper time, but some girls are diagnosed with PCOD when taken to a family gynaecologist. Even worse, they could never imagine that their obesity can pave the way for such a grave health issue. PCOD can cause numerous other problems like delayed and irregular menses, rapid weight gain and tremendous difficulty in losing weight, developing acne and blocked skin pores.

Furthermore, it leads to thinning of hair and excessive growth of hair on chest, back and face. Infertility, continual miscarriagehigh blood pressure and high blood sugar are also common with PCOD.

Help yourself with the right diet:

There is no proven evidence regarding the cause of PCOD though gynaecologists are of the opinion that some females possess a predisposition to this disease, and it may run hereditarily in the family. You can alleviate your PCOD symptoms to a considerable extent by regulating your diet properly.

Have loads of fruits and green leafy vegetables and try to abstain from dairy products as many experts believe that dairy products are a direct cause of an increase in insulin levels, which can aggravate skin troubles along with other PCOD symptoms. Avoiding red meat and eating lean meat instead will help the condition and reduce the chances of infertility. It is always recommended to avoid hydrogenated and saturated fats, which are normally found in animal and dairy-based food. Try to put a stop to cheese, cottage cheese, clarified butter, pork, lamb, beef, etc. and certain baked products like cookies, cakes and fudges as they will trigger a rise in your blood sugar and cholesterol levels.

The following dietary tips can be helpful with the condition:

  • High levels of the insulin hormone causes PCOS symptoms like high blood sugar, increased hair growth, weight gain etc. So, refined foods rich in fat and carbohydrates should be consumed in small amounts.
  • Whole foods in their natural, uncooked form should be consumed fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans etc. These are low glycemic foods that reduce the glucose circulation by insulin.
  • Intake of salt should be very limited. You should not consume more than 3 grams a day.
  • Green vegetables have antioxidants. These are good for women with PCOS because they have a high amount of oxidative stress.
  • Your daily diet should contain at least 30 grams of fiber to improve the digestion process and remove toxins.
  • Milk and dairy products are best avoided because milk helps to increase the level of testosterone (male hormone) in the body.
  • Soy products should also be avoided, especially if you are trying to conceive, because they interfere with the ovulation cycle.
  • Processed fat is harmful but essential fatty acids found in avocado, fish, olive oil and nuts are important for the body.
  • High levels of male hormones also cause high cholesterol. So foods which have high saturated fats like butter, cream, coconut oil and fatty meat should not be included in the regular diet of women with PCOS.
  • Protein-rich foods like lean meat, fish, legumes, whole grains are beneficial as protein can stabilize blood sugar. These foods also keep you feeling full and prevent over-eating.

PCOD is such a condition which you can never afford to overlook. If you had been facing any of the common symptoms, then it is probably time to pay a visit to a responsive gynaecologist. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a dietitian-nutritionist.

Reducing weight has always been a challenging issue. It takes a lot to give up bad habits after all. It took me 2 years to realize that I MUST stop eating and start losing weight ? Health related problems ? If you?re not fit, you would indeed come across health-related common problems like strokes, diabetes or blood pressure. ? Pigmentation ? Obese people are often found to have pigmentation on their face or body. This is due to improper nutrients intake and junk food they consume. ? Improper menstruation cycle ? Obesity is a very common reason behind improper menstrual cycle and delayed pregnancy in obese women Quick Recipe for Homemade Protein Shake: Ingredients you need: ? 120 ml of skimmed milk ? 120 ml of soy milk ? 3 spoons of oat meal ? Cardamom or vanilla essence Recipe: Step 1: Add 120 ml of skimmed milk, 120 ml of soy milk, 3 spoons of oat meal and 1 drop of vanilla essence or 2 cardamoms into a blender together. Step 2: Blend the mixture for 60 seconds and drink it immediately. This is the most commonly followed recipe of protein shake. However, you can try and explore other options as well. The idea is to intake protein. Now how you do it, we leave that up to you. Water is a very important factor in any weight reduction program. Consumption of water cleanses the toxins from the body in the form of urine. Drink about 4 to 5 liters of water every day. ? Different bodies have different requirements of water. A simple way to track how many liters of water your body needs in a day is to divide your weight by 20. The result you will get from this equation will give you the liters of water you must consume every day. For example: If you weigh 70 kilos, then dividing it by 20 gives 3.5 as result. So you must drink a minimum of 3.5 liters of water every single day. This is an essential step for weight loss in 10 days ? . Consuming oats or protein meal instead of dosa or idly or your regular other breakfast helps control and reduce your calories intake. Again, these food items make for a healthy and nutritious breakfast. At the same time, they are good source of proteins which enhance weight loss. Protein helps keeping you full for longer. This helps control your untimely hunger pangs

Try to drink three cups of chamomile tea a day when you're feeling anxious. Chamomile contains two chemicals that promote relaxation. Eat 2 cups celery, onions, or a mixture of the two, raw or cooked, with your meals for a week or two. Both vegetables contain large amounts of potassium and folic acid, deficiencies of which can cause nervousness. Keep a diary to track -- and then eliminate -- events that might trigger anxiety. Also make note of foods, as some of the things you eat may be responsible for the symptoms. Indulge in noncompetitive exercising, such as walking, bicycling, or swimming. It's good for you, both physically and emotionally. Meditate, pray, or indulge in a mental flight of fantasy. Do whatever it takes to give your mind a break. Breathe in, breathe out. Slowly, deeply. This is relaxing. Chat with a friend, a psychotherapist, a clergyman. Talking about your anxiety can relieve it. Make a mental list and check it twice. It doesn't matter what's on the list. This is simply an exercise in repetitive thinking that can distract you from what's causing the anxiety.

Avoid sitting Cross legged. Avoid Squatting- Quadriceps Exercises- Lie straight, make a towel role and put it under the knee, press the keen against the role, hold it for 20 secs. Repeat 20 times twice a day. This will help relieve some pain.

kindly take mahayogaraja guggal tabs, 2 tabs, twice a day with balarishta, 3 tsf ai half a glass of warm water, after meals. Take brahmi vati (gold) tabs, 1 tabs, twice a day, 1 hr after meals with a cup of warm milk. Do nasal drops with ksheer bala oil, 2 drops in each nostril before meals, twice a day. Continue the regime for 45 days. Avoid cold water and other cold eatables in your diet. Cut down sugar, salt, intake in your diet. good luck

I am 22 and weight 73 kgs. 2 months ago my weight was 80. Since then i' ve been running daily and exercise at my home. I' m not fat. But I want to know if by mistake I am loosing my muscles or not. I run 5 kms daily morning except sundays, do half an hour of workout at evening. Eat 5 chapattis at lunch and 5 at dinner. Suggest my some diet or exercise plan.

Over preceding two months you have lost 7 kgs. By physical workout. Please keep in mind that if you continue like this and maintain negative calories intake i.e. Your calories intake should be little lower than calories burnt, you may achieve your goal. However don' t adopt extreme reduction in calories intake.

My sgpt abd sgot levels are 47. 3 and 46 bilirubin 1.8 cholesterol 244 I do not drink eat good diet and exercise also why then my reports ahow high levels my hepatitis tests are normal. How can I bring down these levels.

The normal range of values for AST (SGOT) is from 5 to 40 units per liter of serum (the liquid part of the blood). The normal range of values for ALT (SGPT) is from 7 to 56 units per liter of serum. To reduce levels :- Get more vitamin D Avoid foods high in fat. Avoid foods high in salt or sodium Get daily exercise and consult a doctor near to you for a proper treatment .

Pimples or acne is caused when Hair follicles in your skin gets clogged due to oil, dirt, bacteria or dead skin. Acne generally occurs in people with oily skin but other factors like dead skin, dirt, pollution or hormonal imbalance can also cause acne in people with normal skin. Acne can be reduced or controlled by including some habits in your daily life style. 1. Keep your skin clean – Wash your face daily with an oil control face wash. You can also use a good AHA glow face wash that not only controls oil but also removes dead skin and bacteria. You can also use a good tea tree face wash. By shedding the old dead skin, your skin feels rejuvenated and clean. Apply a good toner, like tea tree toner after washing your face. After toning, apply an oil free and non- comedogenic cream on face. Last but not the least, apply a good sunscreen with minimum 30 spf daily. 2. Face packs – Occasionally apply good oil controlling face packs. Multani mitti + Lemon + yogurt is a good face packs for oily skin beauties. You can apply organic apple cider for 5 minutes after washing your face to kill the bacteria that clogs your pores. Green Tea can also be used as a toner once a day. 3. Diet – Most important thing is diet. Eat fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables daily. Reduce junk food intake, colas, alcohol and soda and consume whole grains. Keeping your digestive system healthy keeps your body and blood toxins free. Drink green tea, lemon juice, orange juice and food items containing Vitamin C as it is responsible for maintaining good skin health. Drink at least 10 glasses of water every day. 4. Exercise – Exercises, yoga, suryanamaskar improves the blood circulation and balances hormones. They keep skin healthy and boost body’s immunity to deal with several issues and not just acne. Include it in your daily regime.

jogging is the best exercise..it may take atleast 3 months to reduce ur fat...follow a diet that s devoid of creams, fried foods, non veg, egg..

Dear sir, kindly confirm asthma by doing a lung fuction test, do an allergy skin test for dust mite and other common allergens. Try to isolate the triggers causing the increase in symptoms and control them as far as possible, start on inhaler with spacer combination of preventor, and releiver under the guidance of a pulmonologist/chest physician. Allergy control with oral antihistamines and montelukast. Thankyou.

If your cycle is less than 35 days then it is normal, otherwise you need to do blood tests sugar pp, tsh, prolactin, testosterone and ultrasound of pelvis, depending on the reports treatment is decided.

DEAR Lybrate USER. A) apply paste of fresh lemon juice and fine powder of turmeric on face with gentle massage, two times in a day. B) take 30 ml of triphala juice and 10 ml of honey early in the morning and at night before sleep…. C) take 2-2 tablets of chandraprabha vati and sutshekhar rasa after meals. D) take 2 tablet of vasantkusumakar rasa early in the morning on empty stomach with triphala juice…. Do all these things for 15 days. It gives you good result. Consult to me for further suggestions. At this age the gap between the front teeth is unlikely, the main reason for this can be localized periodontitis of these teeth. It need to be check properly with clinical and radiographic examination before treatment planning so I advice you to please visit your dentist.
