What is the possible solution for snoring? I am very much want to get rid of it. I have obstructive sleep apnea.

DORL, MBBS
Ear-Nose-Throat (ENT) Specialist, Faridabad
Surgery is the only foremost solution for this as snoring comes from the soft palate when there is fat deposition in it or it becomes so thinned out that it flutters, this is called snoring, snoring is directly related to your unhealthy life style, as this is mainly due to alcohol intake, excess of fat diet, fried spicy or salty diet in excess causes soft palate enlargement this in turn leads to snoring and lack of sleep in the lying down position, start exercising and reduce your weight and start healthy life style. Do not take it lightly as this is directly related to decreased oxygen supply to vital organs mainly the heart hence snoring patients are very prone to get heart attack at very early age, get the sleep study done as early as possible this will show the ah index value on the basis of that the treatment will be given.

I have cough from two days and also throat problem. Plzz. Give me home remedies.

AUTLS, CCEDM, MD - Internal Medicine, MBBS
General Physician, Faridabad
There are several things you can do to prevent a cold. they are all easy. -Always wash your hands after coughing or sneezing into your hands, blowing your nose, after touching someone who is sick, or when using public restrooms or telephones. -Cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze or cough. -Get plenty of rest/sleep.staying at home will keep you from spreading germs.Avoid people who have a cold or cold symptoms. -Drink plenty of fluids(veg/tomato soups, dal water/coconut water/herbal tea etc), and eat nutritious food(like sprouts/boiled eggs without yolk with milk). Avoid foods or drinks with caffeine which can impair your sleep -Treatment:A cold usually lasts for a week or two. Unless you develop complications, you shouldn't need medical treatment. -Complications like infections of the ears, throat, sinuses or lungs must be treated with antibiotics. -Gargle to keep from getting a sore throat. -Use saline nasal sprays or nasal irrigation. -Tablet nasorest-p once/twice daily may ease breathing. -Do steam inhalation once or twice daily -Cough- For dry cough.Take syrup Alex-D for a dry cough.(1 tsp thrice daily) -Productive cough:it brings up mucus from behind the throat or the lungs. These coughs should not be suppressed to the point that they no longer bring up mucus. Use syrup Alex. -Get chest xray done if cough lasts for more than a week and consult doctor immediately.

Treatment for bad breath (halitosis) will depend on its cause. Usually, the most effective treatment is improving your dental hygiene. As part of your daily routine, you should: Brush your teeth and gums. Floss between your teeth. Clean your tongue.

While sleeping I snores and in-between my breathing stopped for like 12 to 20 seconds. I guess it's sleep apnea. Can you tell me of any cure. Besides operative cure.

PDDM, MHA, MBBS
General Physician, Nashik
Lose weight. People who are overweight have extra tissue in the back of their throat, which can fall down over the airway and block the flow of air into the lungs while they sleep. Even a small amount of weight loss can open up your throat and improve sleep apnea symptoms. Quit smoking. Smoking is believed to contribute to sleep apnea by increasing inflammation and fluid retention in your throat and upper airway. Avoid alcohol, sleeping pills, and sedatives, especially before bedtime, because they relax the muscles in the throat and interfere with breathing. Exercise regularly. As well as helping you to lose weight, starting and sticking to an exercise program can have a major effect on the duration and quality of your sleep. Aerobic and resistance training can help reduce sleep apnea symptoms, while yoga is also good for strengthening the muscles in your airways and improving breathing. Avoid caffeine and heavy meals within two hours of going to bed. Maintain regular sleep hours. Sticking to a steady sleep schedule will help you relax and sleep better. Apnea episodes decrease when you get plenty of sleep.
