The most common cause of bleeding from nose in the warm environment is drying of nasal mucosa and picking of the nose. Teach him to avoid nose prick, give plenty of fluids.Pinch the nose for few minutes when it starts bleeding and put nasal decongestant drop 4-6 times a day for 4-5 days. Regards

I have a niece and she has patients of nephritic syndrome at the age of 10-12 months and we are getting treatment from PGI chandigarh but she is not getting well now. what to do?

MD - Paediatrics, MBBS
Pediatrician, Tumkur
I think child is having nephrotic syndrome. If it occurs between 1 to 8 years it responds to treatment. As the age is less than 1 year it may need a renal biopsy.

Answer to your query depends on her age and not listening or not hearing. Her hearing is normal as per tests reports. Listening is related to attention i.e. To respond to command. Ok.

Hi doctors I have a question that I have a baby of 9.5 months and I want to know which calcium medicine should I give to my baby as she gone pranky just because her teeth are trying to come. But it takes some more time to come. But she feels like take everything in her month .What to do.

MBBS MD DCH, Dch
Pediatrician, Muzaffarpur
There is lots of variation in age of dentition as long as other milestone is normal. There is no need to give extra calcium and vitD3 if child has normal locomotor development. Keeping any objects in mouth is physiological as the child tries to explore the object through mouth. You have to be cautious to prevent the child getting hurt or infection by swallowing sharp and contaminated items

Stay Chaos Free - Tips to Care for Your Newborn Baby

Taking care of a newborn is round-the-clock job as the baby needs constant attention. There are many parents who get stressed out as taking care of a newborn as a first-time parent is challenging. There is no need to get stressed out and the best way to keep a cool mind is to make use of practical strategies.

Practical strategies to follow to stay stress-free
A newborn baby in the family definitely brings a lot of excitement, but it also brings along much stress and fatigue to the parents. It is very important that during this time, you take care of yourself by eating a healthy diet and avoid giving up on sleep.

  1. It is also essential that you drink a lot of water and when the baby sleeps you should also sleep. You can work out a suitable night time schedule with your partner so that both of you can take care of the baby and rest as well.
  2. This way, you will be able to take care of your baby without getting extremely tired.
  3. It is important that you set up some visiting rules for your relatives and loved ones so that you get the required rest. It is equally important that you insist your friends to wash their hands with a hand sanitiser and then carry the baby.
  4. As a parent, it is very important that each day you set aside plenty of time for the nursing sessions, and if you plan to go out you must give yourself added time to pack the required supplies.
  5. It is essential that you spend more time with your newborn as it needs more attention and love from you.
  6. It is very important that you create a proper and perfect sleeping environment for your baby, and you should make use of a good mattress so that the baby sleeps comfortably and even you get to sleep.

Share your emotions with your partner
It is important for parents of a newborn to share their emotions with each other and stay connected with each other. By sharing your thoughts and emotions, you can lighten your mood. Parenting is definitely a challenging job and to enjoy this phase of life, it is important that the stress associated with it is handled properly. In case you are finding it hard to handle your baby, it is advisable that you consult a doctor, who will help you adjust to your new life with your newborn.

My son is 3 years old, he is black in colour, we want to change his colour, give me a best suggestion.

MD - Homeopathy
Pediatrician, Mumbai
God gives every person whatever is meant for. Do not try to play against nature. Rather then concentrating on changing colour work on increasing his capabilities so he can become an independent person in future whatever his colour may be. Still if you are so much concerned try good brands soap and body lotions and always use sunscreen for him whenever he is out in son and ofcourse good, nutritious diet always keeps your skin, hair and body healthy.

My baby is 4 months old. My baby is sleeping at night times. But he is waking up 4 to 5 times. So that I am not sleeping much. Due to that I am feeling sleepy in the afternoon. But my mother-in-law is saying that if you sleep you will get headache in future which cannot be cured. But I can't stop myself without sleeping. Is sleeping in the afternoon really causes any affects.

No what your MIL says is old and baseless belief. It is normal for babies to wake up in between and trouble their mothers. It is part of motherhood! You can take rest/sleep when you are tired in afternoon.

When ever your (more than 6 months) baby has loose motions, remember to continue feeding milk and other food like khichri, dahi, banana, give ORS to drink and add Zinc syp (5ml daily-for 14 days). Antibiotics should be avoided. Frequent hand washing is best prevention for diarrhoea.

My 4 years old daughter first caught by cold then fever. I am giving her cozy kids. After taking the medicine temperature goes down but after 4- 5 hrs again she gets fever. What should I do?

Diploma in Child Health (DCH), F.I.A.M.S. (Pediatrics)
Pediatrician, Muzaffarnagar
Cozy kid must be containing paracetamol or like that brings down fever for 4-5 hours. Simple cold is usually due to viral infection which last for 3 to 5 days. Continue medicine 6 hourly 2 to 3 days or as per advice of your doctor.

Hello Doctors Team, My son born on 10-APR-2016 with 1.96kg with 34 Weeks 6 days and currently he is having 2.75 Kg with 39 Weeks 1 day My question here is that we are following PRE-NAN milk powder from his birth with the addition of Mother Milk feeding, and I would like to know that can we continue the same milk powder or we need to change with some other milk powder with the addition of mother's milk. Kindly suggest, Thanks.

DNB (Pediatrics), Diploma in Child Health (DCH), MBBS
Pediatrician, Delhi
Hello. It is best you give your baby only breast milk. Prenaan is also fine but mothers milk is best. Also you need to give vit d, calcium, phosphate, and iron suplementation to your baby as he is a lbw (low birth weight) baby. The weight gain by your child since birth has been appropriate.

My son is 6 years old. He is studying in second standard, he is healthy and active .but when he study for the exams he will forgot all what he studied. please suggest .

M.Sc - Applied Psychology

Hi, is there some kind of pressure around studies on your son? how is the home environment and relationship of family members with each other. If the child has no diagnosed history of learning difficulty, then he will generally do well. Be observant about your and others behaviour towards his education. Undue pressure and expectation will only create problems for him. You can make studies a fun activity, allowing him to ask more and more questions and providing him with answers. You can play memorising games with him and lovingly teach him ways to memorize if something seems difficult. Let him be curious about things around him, and allow him to learn through exploration. Talk to him what he likes about school, teachers and studies and what he doesn't like about them. Identify what is challenging for him. Let him have fixed timings for study and play. Follow a schedule for good diet. Seek help of counsellor for further guidance.
