I have given painless pentaxim vaccine once to my 2 month baby boy after that I have given him painful pentavac vaccine. Will there be any reaction by changing the vaccines? Is it safe?

Currently Pentaxim vaccine is not recommended by INDIAN ACADEMICS OF PEDIATRICS below 1 year or in primary series of 6 10 and 14 week schedule. As it contains acellular pertusis as one of the components its painless and feverless but its not as effective as pentavac because it conta wholecell pertusis which is efficacious in long term. If your child have any reaction from Pentavac then only it wise to shift from Pentavac to Pentaxim. Try to take all pentavac if possible.

What Are the Affects of Galactosemia In Infants?

dnb pediatrics
Pediatrician,
What Are the Affects of Galactosemia In Infants?

An infant is usually called a bundle of joy and with good reason. There are simple and carefree, and bring a smile to your face with their antics. However, the mood and health of an infant can be tarnished due to an issue which is known as galactosemia.

What is Galactosemia?
When a baby has galactosemia, he or she will have a problem when it comes to digesting galactose, which is something that is present not only in milk but in all milk products. Galactose is a sort of sugar, just like fructose and glucose is. As a matter of fact, lactose, which is what milk has, is, in fact, a combination of glucose and galactose. Also, when lactose is processed, it is broken down by the human body into its constituents.

The condition is something that is passed down through the genes of the parents of the baby. The condition would occur if the gene which causes a tendency for a baby to have galactosemia is present not only in one parent but both of them. A baby who has the condition will be lacking an enzyme which is known as the GALT enzyme. The enzyme could also not be functioning as it should be under normal circumstances.

When it comes to the problem, it is very important, to say the least, to detect it sooner rather than later as if there is a build-up of unprocessed galactose which is allowed to occur, it can affect the baby adversely and in some cases, it can also be threatening to the life of the baby!

How does it affect a baby?
The problems which can erupt due to galactosemia include issues which affect organs such as the brain, eyes, liver and kidneys. It is interesting to take note of the fact that these are all organs which either have something to do either processing the blood or are heavily dependent on it. While a baby is not in the position in which he or she can communicate the issues that are being faced, when keeping an eye out for galactosemia, the signs which are displayed include an irritability of the baby as well as lacking consumption of the milk of the mother.

Even though galactosemia may not be the case, a doctor should be consulted as the exacerbated issue can include seizures and jaundice. It is to be kept in mind that galactose is something that can be found not only in the milk of the cow but also human milk as well as the milk of other animals such as goats. If you wish to discuss about any specific problem, you can consult a Pediatrician.

Have a look at our sample meal plan for a one-year-old vegetarian toddler. It will help you feed your child a healthy and balanced diet to ensure that he gets all the vital nutrients he needs to grow well When planning your child's menu, remember that cholesterol and other fats are very important for his or her normal growth and development, so they should not be restricted during this period. If you keep your child's caloric intake at about 1,000 calories a day, you shouldn't have to worry about overfeeding and putting him or her at risk of gaining too much weight. See the following sample menu ideas for a one-year-old. Note: These menu ideas are intended for a one-year-old child who weighs approximately 21 pounds (9.5 kg). 1 teaspoon = 1/3 tablespoon (5 mL) 1 tablespoon = ½ ounce (15 mL) 1 cup = 8 ounces (240 mL) 1 oz = 30 mL Breakfast •½ cup iron- fortified breakfast cereal or 1 cooked egg •¼ –½ cup whole milk (with cereal or without) Fruit can be added to cereal or on its own •½ banana, sliced •2–3 large sliced strawberries Snack •1 slice toast or whole wheat muffin with 1–2 tablespoons cream cheese or peanut butter, or yogurt with cut-up fruit •½ cup whole milk Lunch •½ sandwich sliced turkey or chicken, tuna, egg salad, or peanut butter •½ cup cooked green vegetables •½ cup whole milk Snack •1–2 ounces cubed or string cheese, or 2–3 tablespoons fruit or berries •1 cup whole milk Dinner •2–3 ounces cooked meat, ground or diced •½ cup cooked yellow or orange vegetables •½ cup pasta, rice, or potato •½ cup whole milk Additional Information on HealthyChildren. What is the ketogenic diet?

The ketogenic diet is a special high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet that helps to control seizures in some people with epilepsy. It is prescribed by a physician and carefully monitored by a dietitian. It is stricter than the modified Atkins diet, requiring careful measurements of calories, fluids, and proteins.
The name ketogenic means that it produces ketones in the body (keto = ketone, genic = producing). Ketones are formed when the body uses fat for its source of energy.
Usually the body uses carbohydrates (such as sugar, bread, pasta) for its fuel, but because the ketogenic diet is very low in carbohydrates, fats become the primary fuel instead.
Ketones are not dangerous. They can be detected in the urine, blood, and breath. Ketones are one of the more likely mechanisms of action of the diet; with higher ketone levels often leading to improved seizure control. However, there are many other theories for why the diet will work.

Pediatrician, Kaithal
Most probably she is suffering from allergic rhinitis, may be seasonal as you described. Common allergens may be pollens and fungi. Get your child tested for allergies and treat accordingly. Avoid allergens if possible and take some nasal sprays under the guidance of your doctor.

Hello, ●New born baby is unable to distinguish between night & daytime. Hence, after few week, you have to educate the baby the difference between  day & night in order to establish sound sleep in the night. ●When its day, the baby should be brought in sun light to recognise the day time and similarly in night the baby should be kept in a dim. Light to recognise eving or night time. Her day should be brighter and the night be darker. ●This has to be ensured  that child is adequetly ,fed before going to bed & continued feeding 2 hrly. ●Some time the baby suffers from abdominal pain, earache, headache due to change in climate, cause her weep. ●  usually, we fail to assess the room- temprature being suitable for the baby to make her sleep, comfortably.Ac should be tuned & fan should be adjusted as per the need be. ● in the night while feeding the baby of your own  baby asleeps without taking sufficient quty of milk, makes her weep, again and again during sleep, please keep checking the fact & adjusted as the condition warants. Homoeopathically,  your baby might be nurtured, successfully. Your feedback is solicited to followup your baby. The care.
