My mother's er, pgr is 0 but her neu is 2+.She had MRM 1 1/2 month before. What does it mean ? What treatment should be given so that disease never reoccur?

Well these are hormonal receptors. For treatment these are important. After mrm chemoradiotherapy and hormonal therapy is required but for that stage and histopathological report is must.

no cancer does not spread from person to person. it is a disease where growth of one particular type of cells becomes unregulated and it interferes with the working of other cells

Hi Mr. Lybrate-user, I appreciate you seeking help. Well, the biopsy report is indicative of invasion to the lamina propria. But, can you doubly check with your doc if there is any invasion into the lymphatics too? so far as I know, such cases are treated with bcg vaccination, assuming there is no lymph node invasion. Additionally, given to understand that its a high grade carcinoma, there always is a high risk of metastasis despite a tur-bt surgery. Hence, the need to aggressively manage it, to the extent of even going for a full bladder cystectomy should it so demand, to help avert a futuristic metastasis and improve prognosis. Anyways, do clarify the above-mentioned through an expert second opinion with an oncologist specializing in urology cancers. From a dietary standpoint, try including more of fresh turmeric, carrots, tomatoes, cabbage, broccoli, green tea (twice daily) etc all besides other leafy greens. Pomegranate juice & vitamin c (can try'amalaki') helps too in this condition. Hope this helps. Do take care and all the very best to you.

My brother has been diagnose of cancer in the asephagus low 1/3. what should we do?

M.Ch - Surgical Oncology
Oncologist, Hyderabad
The first thing needed is to stage the patient. This needs a CT scan of Chest and abdomen. If it is a localised disease the standard treatment will be Pre-operative Radiation therapy followed by surgery or Radical Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy depending on the fitness of the patient and the type of cancer. If it is metastatic, spread to other organs, the treatment would be palliative chemotherapy. Consult an oncologist (surgical/radiation) to decide the best course for the patient

DNB, MBBS

No cancer is not transferable like this but some infection can be transferred, so it is advisable not to share the spoon. Cancer can not be transferred by touching hugging close contact. It is not a communicable disease.

Your reading is no substitute for doctors' knowledge and experience. Stop reading and get biopsy done as advised by your urologist. Raised psa is a dangerous sign. Don't ignore it. It could be cancer. Luckily, prostate cancer is a curable disease if detected in time.

Lung Cancer - A Practical Guide To Help You Manage It!

MBBS, MS - General Surgery, FBD (Fellowship in Breast Diseases), UICC Fellowship
Oncologist, Pune
Lung Cancer - A Practical Guide To Help You Manage It!

Cancer is not just a physical problem but an emotional one, not just for the patient but for the caretakers as well. While treating cancer per se is a task, managing the complications that arise out of it is another major issue. With environmental pollution and smoking on the rise, lung cancer incidences have also increased significantly.

Read on to know how to manage lung cancer, including some symptoms.
Emotionally, once the diagnosis is confirmed, there could be a mixed bag of feelings including fear, confusion, anxiety and uncertainty. Having a close family member or friend accompany you on medical visits certainly helps, as they can guide in asking the right questions and interpreting things the right way.

Being a part of social groups helps in coping with emotional stress that comes with the disease, as it reduces the feeling of loneliness and puts you in touch with others who are on the same journey.
Physically, some of the symptoms along with ways to manage are listed below.

  1. Pain: One of the major symptoms of any cancer, pain can be severe and needs to be handled for the overall quality of life. Long-acting pain medications would be required to control pain, and if the still persists, one might have to go for short-acting pain killers for immediate pain control. In addition, warm massages, oil therapies, meditation, and Ayurvedic therapies can do wonders in managing the pain.
  2. Smoke exposure: One of the main causes of lung cancer, exposure to smoke should be avoided at all costs. While quitting smoking is a must, exposure to secondhand smoke should also be avoided. Any other form of tobacco is a strict no too.
  3. Shortness of breath: With lung cancer, the lungs’ ability to supply oxygen to the various organs is reduced. This puts additional pressure on the lungs, and so can cause shortness of breath. Try to not exert the body, and with any physical strain, it is advisable to rest. Listen to your body’s signs and rest accordingly.
  4. Weakened immunity: Chemotherapy weakens the immune system and puts you at risk for infections of all the organs. Therefore, eat healthy, drink lots of water including non-caffeinated beverages, exercise within limits that your body allows, and sleep well. This helps in improving the immune system. Reduce exposure to pollutants and to people who are not well. This can control chances of developing infections.
  5. Cough and sore throat: Lung cancer puts one at risk of developing a chronic sore throat and cough. Drink warm liquids, avoid cold beverages, and keep your flu shots up to date.

While cancer definitely is a scary proposition, some simple things can help you cope better. Consult an Expert & get answers to your questions!

How sitting before PC for long time can cause cancer? Any study supporting this claim?

DNB, MBBS
Oncologist, Faridabad
No study is supporting this theory. Radiation exposure can cause mutations and cancerous growth, but can't say exactly if mobile or computers emit such radiation to cause cancer.

Recently I heard an audio lecture that said health depends on quality and quantity of food and water intake. I have lost one of my friend to intestine cancer at 56. I would like to know more on good food practices.

MBBS, DNB ( Radiation Oncology)
Oncologist, Mumbai
We should eat a healthy balanced diet with lots of fibre, fruits and green leafy vegetables. Refined products like maida which are used in pizzas and other fast food should be avoided. Whole wheat, oats, soya, bajra, ragi etc are good for carbohydrates as source. The more refined food we eat, the more we get prone to colon cancer. There have been many studies that show that refined food has a relationship with colon cancer. I hope that helps!

What is the symptoms of cancer and what I should I do if fiver for over last two days.

MBBS
General Physician, Faridabad
A cancer may also cause symptoms like fever, extreme tiredness (fatigue), or weight loss. This may be because cancer cells use up much of the body’s energy supply, or they may release substances that change the way the body makes energy from food. Cancer can also cause the immune system to react in ways that produce these signs and symptoms. tab dolo sos when temp. Is high, and get few test done like cbc, complete urine exam. Platelet count, mp slide for malaria and widal test. Back with report. Thank you

Ayurvedic Remedies for Blood Cancer

In our modern life, cancer is the most dreaded disease of all. Despite substantial advances in medical science, there hasn't been much of a progress in the treatment available for cancer. The mortality rate for cancer is still on the rise and all this, in spite of all kinds of sophisticated treatments at our disposal.

Cancer is rather a torturous experience, not merely on account of the terminal consequence, but also of the extreme physical and emotional suffering that one has to endure. What's worse is that often all the efforts are rendered vain. In that context, a large number of people have started looking towards alternative therapies as a cure for cancer. Serious forms of cancers like blood cancer or leukemia are often formidable and do not respond favourably to the clinical treatments. Consequently, despite all attempts and humongous investments, the casualties are on the rise. To counter such threats, people are growingly moving towards alternative remedies. Among the other natural cures, Ayurveda has garnered a lot of interest and approval.

Ayurveda has devised a holistic process that potentially cures you of blood cancer and endows you with a fresh leash of life. As per Ayurveda, the main causes of cancer may be enumerated as genetic imbalances, exposure to harmful radiation, stressful and unhealthy lifestyle and consumption of degenerating food items. As such, Ayurveda tries to heal not just the disease but also the germ of the disease and in the process, improves your well-being.

Ayurveda grapples with blood cancer in the following ways:

  1. Adjuvant to ongoing treatment: You may be skeptical of depending entirely on Ayurveda as a remedy for cancer. As such, Ayurvedic treatments may be used as ancillaries alongside the ongoing chemotherapy and radiology. Ayurveda stimulates your in built immunity and thus prolongs and rejuvenates your lifespan. That aside, the natural benefits that Ayurveda provides your body reduce the side effects of chemotherapy and help in complete remission of the disease.
  2. Rasashastra: Ayurveda deems the imbalance in your genetic code to be the main cause of cancer. Therefore, it believes that remedy lies in 'pitta' restoration. Under this treatment, Ayurveda uses a combination of metals vis-a-vis the purest elements to minimize the deterioration of the condition. A unique combination of silver, gold and other essential minerals can be wondrous to boost the immunity of the cells and restore the normal cell production rate in your marrows. This goes a long way in obliterating the damage caused by blood cancer.
  3. The right diet: Consuming the most favourable foods are essential while battling cancer. An alkaline diet comprising of coconut water, warm, fresh nutritious food like leafy greens, apples and nuts must be regularly consumed. Greasy, spicy and lavish dishes should be avoided since they are known to generate harmful 'ama' in your body.
